I like Angel quite a bit (minus the dumb evilCordy thing), and Smile Time is one of my fave episodes of any show. But man I love Buffy. Funny, smart, silly, wise, brave, strong, capable, strategic, and loyal as hell. Plus Hush is probably my favorite episode of any show ever.

Aside, I think Helpless is so underrated. Scary villain, smart premise, Buffy came out on top using her brains instead of her brawn, and I was terrified for her the entire episode. Oh, and then it ends with Quentin firing Giles, bc Giles has "a father's love for the child."

So much love for the Giles/Buffy relationship.

I liked them both but if I had to choose, Buffy would always win. I was around the same age as the characters so I guess I related them.

Smile Time is one of my favorite episodes of all time. That was just brilliant. Buffy just has my heart because I loved the characters. Even when I was annoyed with some of them I still loved the others. It's one of the few shows where I loved multiple characters equally. Firefly is the only show that surpasses Buffy in character love. (and I know it's probably because it only had 1 season and didn't have time to be ruined).

Buffy and Angel both did some cool experimental episodes. I mean, which Angel writer was smoking what drug when he came up with "Hey, let's turn Angel into a puppet!" Don't even tell me there wasn't some serious drug-taking involved with that idea, which is CRAZYNUTS. Then they executed this insane idea perfectly. I halfway wish Arrow would try something more experimental, but I'm sure if they did they'd screw up the execution and it'd just end up sucking.

Smile Time is one of my all time favorites. I tried really hard to buy an Angel puppet but the ones for sale sucked. Also the Farscape episode, Revenging Angel, where it was animated like a Looney Tunes cartoon. Farscape was so under-rated.

I think I have to go with Angel. They always felt like more of a family unit to me. And I actually think angel holds up a bit better than Buffy which can be really dated sometimes. There are episodes of BtVS that I love more than anything but I'm always quicker to rewatch Angel. Except the last season, where I like only five episodes.

I never got Harry/Hermione. I was surprised when I found out that there was such a strong shipping element because I didn't see it in the books. The movies I understand, both chemistry wise between the actors and the changes they made to Ron and Hermione.

I enjoyed Harry and Ginny. I was so disappointed in movie Ginny. There was no chemistry between the actors and they put no effort in the pairing.

This was me too! I will admit that if I was just going by the movies Harry/Hermione had the most chemistry, because they cast the Ginny girl to be a good Ginny, but not a LI for Harry. But I also think the movie producers wanted to have their own way and really pushed H/H over H/R or H/G even if it strayed from the books. However, I will give a pass on the casting directors because they cast the cast as children without any clue how the books were going to end. And if I'm being honest, it's probably one of the best acted movie series by children in decades, so they did succeed on that & I can overlook a few off romantic moments. I also think what came off as chemistry between H/H was actually just familiarity because Dan Radcliffe exudes absolutely no romantic chemistry with anyone.

I came in the books late, but definitely right around the time the 6th book was coming out. I tried to read it when it first came out, but the first book was really a chore for me to get through. It must have taken me 5 times to try it. I finally had to give in when they released movie 1 and I made a vow to not see the movie before I read the book, which became very hard when I was a counselor at a day camp and that's all they wanted to watch. I keep on telling people if I had just skipped half of book 1 and moved right into book 2, I would have been hooked from the beginning.

I absolutely loved book 2 and Ginny was the main reason. I so called her & Harry getting together from that book. I must admit I was rooting for it and cheering for it for a long time. I say drips and drabbles of moments throughout the books. However, when I saw the writing on the wall, I had to run down to the local corner store and get a congratulatory bottle of wine to enjoy my H/G shippy moments. I didn't even know what shipping was. The poor guy behind the counter asked what I was so excited about.... he definitely did not share my excitement but it was a fabulous bottle of wine.

Buffy all the way. My first real tv fandom obsession and the first time I experienced 'online' fandom with the old message board for The Bronze. Only show I ever wrote fanfic for and only tv character I ever dressed up as for Halloween.

Actually, I was just telling someone at work yesterday about how I still have all of the vhs tapes I recorded of Buffy season 2 even though I don't have a VCR anymore, but I refuse to get rid of them!

That would be one Mr. Ben Edlund who also wrote the Supernatural episode with a Suicidal Teddy Bear who couldn't actually kill himself. He wrote SO many great SPN episodes.  Sigh...I wish he would come back

I Never understood the Harry Hermione shipping. or Harry with Luna. I was very much into the "canon" couples from the books just because I never saw H/H chemistry on screen, and I saw plenty of it between R/H starting from the 3rd movie. I know it probably wasn't fully intentional since the actors were barely in their mid teens at the time, Rom and Hermione just clicked for me from the start.

I do wish they would have written Ginny better in the movies, she was such an awesome character in the books. And I have grown to appreciate and fall inlove with Luna as the years went by.

I have to admit I first watched the first 3/4 movies and than went back to read the books. I read the first 5 in less than a week (granted though it was in my native language so that made it easier), the sixth (in english) in less than 24 hours - straight, only stopped for food and bathroom breaks, and I think the 7th took me about the same time as the 6th.

But it took me two more years, in 2007 when the 7th was released, to become a genuine pothead :-).

Just saw a preview for the Blacklist, they really are just killing off female characters willy nilly this season? Doesn't look good for Beckett, if the writers keep on the bad trend of killing off main female characters for drama.

Anyway back to Potter. I always thought Neville & Luna got together in my head later on. I know it didn't happen, but in my head it did. I loved Luna & Harry's friendship. I feel like if it was the real world & not a children's book, I could see Harry & Luna have an amazing fling but it beyond amazing sex & perhaps a few fun memories I don't think the relationship would have sustained itself. In fact it would be more of FWB scenario than an actual relationship.

I hear that the Blacklist lead actress is pregnant so it's likely she's just written off for a few episodes to deal with that. Doesn't look like the fans believe in her death.

As for Angel/Buffy, seasons 2 and 3 of Buffy are probably my favorite TV ever, but overall, I prefer Angel, and it took me 2 rewatches to really appreciate this show. But then, I really dig the noir theme, the darkness and the existentialism stuff. I also really love its last season and the finale, while Buffy was in steady decline for a long time before it finally ended.

I don't really believe Megan Boone is out on Blacklist. I haven't watched the show for awhile, but from what I'm reading, it doesn't sound like a real death. I bet they show her as alive before the end of the season.

Like I said, I never read the books but I know part of the reason I was disappointed that it wasn't going to be H/H was how much of a putz Ron seemed in the movies so H/R never felt like a good fit.  It didn't help when H/H spend all that time alone toward the end, lol.  Still, I feel like I understood the logic behind Ginny.  Harry went off a little boy with no family or friends and then all his friends became his family and the only way that happened was for him to marry into Ron's family and then Hermione to marry Ron. Or at least that is the way it seemed in the movies.  Ginny was pretty much treated as a means to an end.

In the books I think JK made it pretty clear that Ginny was pretty perfect for Harry, one scene comes to mind in OotP, when Harry is in one of his blaming himself moods and Ginny is the one that snaps him out of it, with Ron and Hermione with no idea what to do. I loved Ron in the books, and he was perfect for Hermione there, but in the movies they gave most of his lines to Hermione which made him seem dumber and also made her fit into more of this 'perfect' character than what she was in the books. I'm going with Angel. It's not a matter of quality, I just clicked better with the characters and their relationships. I can't speak for all seasons for either show, since I didn't watch them the whole way through. Now I'm kind of having a hard time remembering shows I did watch from start to finish.

Bubble Watch: Status Report On ‘Castle’, ‘Nashville’, ‘Criminal Minds’, ‘CSI: Cyber’, ‘Sleepy Hollow’ & Other Series In Danger
by Nellie Andreeva • April 15, 2016 7:52pm
http://deadline.com/2016/04/canceled-or-renewed-castle-nashville-criminal-minds-csi-cyber-sleepy-hollow-mysteries-of-laura-bubble-1201738298/

The major two omissions in ABC’s renewal announcement were veteran procedural Castle and country music drama Nashville. Their future is still in limbo but the feeling is that both will be brought back for one — possibly last and possibly shorter-run seasons. I hear talks are still underway with Castle star Nathan Fillion who needs to sign a new deal but there are hopeful signs that the venerable series, now in Season 8, will get a final chapter. What’s more, Castle is a rare procedural on the current ABC schedule, a genre the network is said to be making a push in, so bringing the long-running show back would provide continuity. Still, facing uncertainty, the show has filmed two alternative endings for the Season 8 finale.
*  *  *
Fox has Sleepy Hollow, which recently ended its third season with a shocking finale that saw one of its leads die. While nowhere near the ratings highs of the first season, Sleepy Hollow has a following, logs solid DVR gains, and, because of the famous underlying property, the series makes money for Fox internationally, so getting to four seasons would be financially beneficial for the company. While Sleepy Hollow is on the bubble, there had been positive signs, and I hear the studio has been doing contingent staffing moves to be prepared in case the series is renewed.

I really think that both ABC and Fox would be wise to let both those shows go. Even if they weren't creatively bankrupt and terrible, the media coverage they're getting right now is toxic. Whether it's accurate or not, they're being accused of sexism, chauvinism, arrogance and stupidity for the big cast changes they've chosen to pursue. Better to shut that down and come up with some new shows.

Sadly, calling network execs arrogant is usually pretty accurate. So it wouldn't surprise me if both shows return and then fail badly.

About Buffy and Angel, somehow, Angel feels more timeless to me. Buffy takes me back to the time when I first watched it, without fail. Perhaps it's the high school setting, but it always makes me feel young and optimistic. Angel was darker, more grown up, and so when I watch that I don't have that same rush of nostalgia. But I love both shows, for those different reasons.

They both achieved far more than was ever expected of them, and produced some genuinely groundbreaking episodes and moments. One of my all time favourite television moments:

Holland: "Angel, please.... People are going to die."

Angel: "And yet, somehow, I just can't seem to care."

Chills, every time I watch that scene. Such a dark, but fully earned, decision for a protagonist to make. That whole season was about grinding Angel down, making him doubt himself, making him suffer. And it paid off wonderfully. Not many TV shows will put their protagonists on that sort of journey.

I never expect the big U.S. networks to end shows when it makes the most sense to do so. They're too caught up in the dollar signs to make wise decisions which inevitably blow up in their faces when the subsequent seasons end up being downright horrible and they start hemorrhaging viewers while the show dies a slow, painful death.

It's now my firm belief that losing the original show runner is not good for the show in the long run.  They seem to be the only ones that ever care about giving shows a good ending.

Really sad to hear the news about Chyna dying.  I really enjoyed her back in the day, when she was a part of D-Generation X.  I also enjoyed her role on 3rd Rock from the Sun, she was pretty good at comedy/acting (for a wrestler.).

The one and only season of the Surreal Life that I watched had her on it and she seemed a loving yet lonely and deeply troubled soul.  How very sad.

Saddened and Shocked by the Death of Prince. I own two of his greatest hits CDS. A musical Genius and Icon. Some of my all time favorite songs of his are Lets go Crazy, Little Red Corvette, Cream, 1999, When Doves Cry, and Raspberry Beret.

I saw him in concert and was blown away by the power and charisma and fucking talent in that 5'3" bundle of exquisite energy and talent.

Purple Rain was the first album I ever bought with my own money. I listened to it non stop.

I watched Deadpool recently and because of Negasonic Teenage Warhead's (2nd favourite character) haircut, Wade keeps calling her Sinead O'Connor, and at the end he says "Nothing compares to you". Her greatest hit. Which was written by guess who.

A fucking musical genius.

Prince. How is this possible?

I always get a little weirded out by people who talk about crying when a celebrity dies since we don't know the real person, but I'm tearing up at his death. I had to write a "My Five Favorite Things" piece for a magazine last year, and Purple Rain made the list. Prince blew my little Catholic school mind, but the album (and all his works) stayed with me because they have compassion and soul in a song you can shake your ass to. I was half-hoping this would be one of his weird self-reinventions.

This is terrible.

I had to hide my 1999 album from my Mom. She thought he was way too dirty and not appropriate for her teenage daughter. When my friends and I went to see Purple Rain in the theater we thought we were so cool because you could smoke in your seat. I was lucky enough to get to see him on the Purple Rain tour. Yep, I am old. Sad sad day.

I have to add my sister saw him in concert just last year and we couldn't believe it had been over 30 YEARS since I had seen him. 30 years and he just got better! That is so incredible.

I do remember sitting with the album out in our junior high school cafeteria parsing the lyrics to his songs. We weren't listening to it, we were actively trying to find every dirty lyric we could, including the hidden ones. After we'd finished Purple Rain we had a field day with Little Red Corvette. My friend got ahold of 1999 and it was so different. We went out and bought Controversy and Dirty Mind. I think Dirty Mind is what my Mom heard and forbid me to listen to Prince. It wasn't just the lyrics. I was trapped in a world of hair bands and Van Halen. This was so new and exciting. Our friends thought we were crazy. He really did change music for so many people.

I graduated High School in 1999, let's just say that song was heavily played. I feel like my graduating class (& others of that yr) kind of put dibs on that song.

RIP Prince, he was an amazing artist. I must admit I was not a diehard fan as some of you were. But his influence on music and imprint on pop culture in undeniable.

On a personal note, my Grandmother actually passed away this week. So between Doris Roberts (whom she loved) & now Prince the line into the Pearly Gates has some nice bookends. It's gonna be a fun orientation party for her now that Prince has joined the party.

The only info I can find so far suggests he's been battling a bad bout of the flu for a few weeks. I actually live in MN and they have mentioned lately in the news that there is a strain of the flu going around that has been deadly this year.  Who knows.  :(

I only just heard about Doris Roberts after I read the article about Prince. :(  I was never a Everybody Loves Raymond fan but I had been a fan of Doris Roberts going back to Remington Steele and I always was pleased that she achieved recognition for her talents.  (In that odd way you feel pride for total strangers that you've taken a shine to since you were a child - fandom is such an odd thing)

Thanks all! I usually don't mention personal things, but I feel like Grandma would love to share that she gets to jam with Prince and chat up Doris Roberts. Plus I love my Grandma so I feel like randomly shared with everyone this week, she was a special lady, I just couldn't help it. :)

BJ Novak did a book of short stories "One More Thing" and in one of them he imagined what it would be like to be in Heaven and see all the amazing talent and all of your loved ones, how cool it would be, but how busy you would get. I thought it was a good listen on audiobook. I sorta think about that story anytime the world loses special people whether they were special to one person or the entire world. It must be one crazy party up there.

Prince was so talented and such an original, he's going to leave a huge hole in the music world. He lived in Toronto for a year and I've been listening to people calling in their stories about him all afternoon. He would go so smaller bars after concerts and sometimes play, sometimes just listen to other bands. One he stayed till closing time and as the staff cleaned up at 4 a.m., he played a private concert for them. Awesome.
