Good grief. Even I, when I was a teenager/adolescent and was shown items, technology from 50 to 200 years in the past, I wasn’t flummoxed or discombobulated as if I was looking at some alien life form. It’s why I 🙄🙄🙄 SO HARD in the episode where Mia had never heard heard of a tape recorder and looked at the mini cassette like something from outer space. And how she tried to listen to it.

Tech has advanced really quickly even in the past 10 years. So tech from 15 to 20 years ago is going to be ancient to any teenagers now. My sister knows more about the older tech from me since I'm 11 years older than her. She's seen what I had. Of course she didn't know how to mail a letter so there is that. Lol.

I don't know... I feel like technology evolved at a different rate in the last 15 years compared to the 100 years before that. Telephones, for example, were more or less the same for 80 years before they made the leap to cell phones and then smart phones in 20 years. When I think about how often I have to explain to my mom why her wi-fi only iPad won't work if she uses it outside the house, I can't blame kids today for being confused about old tech.

I think you are on to something.  My mother, born in the 1940's, used to say she was sure she'd never see in her lifetime such a technological leap as she saw from her childhood to the 70's/80's.  She said that pretty much until a couple years ago.  Now she says it happened again.

Saw Endgame yesterday and loved it. I think I was crying for 2/3 of the film. The emotional moments and callbacks just really worked. Puzzled by the choice for 1 character, though.

Isaac Asimov addressing the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1967 spoke about how quickly technology is advancing. For hundreds of year, most people never went beyond ten mile where they were born and life was the same when they died as when they were born. Sometimes there was a major change like the invention of the steam engine but mostly there were very few changes  from birth till death.  In the twentieth century, that started changing and innovations were coming fast and faster. Where before things stayed the same for your lifetime, now they are different within just a few years.

I typed my undergrad thesis on a typewriter. It's a different world now with all the editing functions and I can do all my research on-line instead of spending hours in the library stacks. Yay!

Mia doesn't strike me as someone who is interested in things outside her immediate purvue much less anything so ancient in the past as 30 years or more earlier.

I caught it during the day, 2pm. (There was also a showing at 1:40 and 3 and on and on) There were about 20 people but I looked yesterday just in longing and noticed it was almost sold out for the same time and forget anything in the evening.

Loved it!!!!! We picked a good session so the seats next to us were empty on both sides. 

I feel like I need to watch it again though. I was very overwhelmed that this was the last movie after investing a decade so spent most of it being a bit teary. I'd like to see it with more focus next time.

yeah they are at least 3 spin off, but from what I can tell so far, they are  loosely associated to their mother shows. That could work in their favor, as some shows like Riverdale have lost their popularity. 

Looks like Batwoman, Katy Keene (Riverdale spinoff), & Nancy Drew have been officially picked up.  The Jane the Virgin spinoff is not going forward.  No word on the other two pilots yet. Deadline has more info. Apparently Glamorous (this is the one that has John Barrowman in it, right?) is still in contention, but Lost Boys is going to be retooled and “re-piloted”.

They really butchered her character this season. Repeatedly.

Jessica (her character) resets at the beginning of every new episode and never learns or grows from the previous episode. 

The public reaction is a bit much but I can see why she's upset.

I'm guessing she has a scheduling conflict now that the show was renewed and a contract obligating her to cancel her other opportunity.  Possibly a more lucrative opportunity.  Pure spec but it also wouldn't be the first time that a show on it's likely way out was renewed when an actor on it found some success on another project.  

The most famous one was probably when Pierce Brosnan was on Remington Steele and the show was going to be canceled and he landed James Bond only for the buzz about him being chosen as Bond raised the summer rerun ratings so they renewed the show and he had to drop out as Bond.  

(And then NBC turned the "renewal" into a handful of "movies" rather than a real season.)

From her reaction it does seem likely she had another opportunity and will lose it because her contract on the show comes first. She should not have tweeted publicly about it though. That might hurt her more. 

As for Gemma Chan retweeting that. I don't think they were that close during the filming of CRA. In the interviews CW always seemed kind of distant from the rest of the cast.

No they didn’t. Timothy Dalton was hired. Pierce was the next Bond. And his first appearance wasn’t until 8 years later in 1995. Of course Pierce is a professional and not petty, as he’s said in interviews that he wasn’t ready to play Bond back in ‘87.

But no one will ever convince me otherwise. NBC Fucked him over but good. I get immense satisfaction that in the end, Pierce did get to play Bond.

Ok I've never shipped celebrities but I really need to ask about this cuz I'm nosy and too old to understand the younguns these days. 

So I follow a bunch of figure skaters on Instagram.

They are late teens to very early 20s. One of them is a beautiful girl and an amazing skater (Olympic champ, world champ, also rumoured to be a VERY sweet person in real life) who doesn't speak much English.

Anyways I was liking the girl's pics when I noticed the boy skater I followed also liked a bunch of her bikini pics. He only likes her bikini pics and dog pics. Also I noticed he only likes her pics because he also follows EBR and a bunch of other good looking ladies and skaters but does not like their pics. 

After the world championships he also posted a group of photos captioned "Favourite people, places, things" and under this caption was a photo of: scenery, his team mates, sushi, some dude and a photo he took with her at a banquet.

Hehe can I safely assume someone has a tiny crush?

Stingrays are weirdly adorable. Yeah they have stingers and all that, but I went to a stingray cove on a cruise one time, and they were such cuties! They flop under your hand looking for pets and treats like a puppy, and they're so smooth! And I just think they look cool swimming around. 

This Constance Wu thing is more press than FOTB has gotten in years! It looks like now that she is a movie star, she is "too big" for a humble little sitcom, and wanted to do something bigger, but because the show got another season and is under contract, so now she is stuck with her show that she now thinks is beneath her. I dont really blame her for being annoyed with how the show is writing her character (Jessica is just a nightmare now) but you dont go around tweeting about it! Man, it is gonna be super awkward around set when they start filming!

YES!!!! I patted some and they are just like puppies! They also eat off your hand and are pretty gentle taking food, albeit enthusiastic (the enthusiasm reminds me of a pup too) unlike the nasty barramundi that bit my husband!

Re Constance Wu: Her apology was the worst. The continued use of the word "pleasant" really made me side eye her. I keep wondering if she did it on purpose because they way she used it sounded really snarky.

I checked for you and it's just some comedians. Although some people initially thought it was an actual government ad😂

It's in a very similar format to some of our official ads so I can see why people would think it was the government's official attempt at humour.

To put it into context, Australia requires everyone to vote who is allowed to and has preferential voting.  Neither is true for the US or Canada, both of which have First Past The Post systems and I think you have to register to vote in the US.  (Many of us in Canada wanted a combination First Past The Post and Preferential voting system but it got didn't get passed in parliament.)

Your voting is much more complex than ours plus everyone has to vote.  I understand why a commercial like that may be needed.

"Quite poor" seems to cover my feelings pretty well, if we're being polite about it.  For me, the GOT showrunners did something I didn't know was possible - they unseated MG from the top of my "Showrunners to Avoid" list.

Our difference in opinion is proof that there must be people who watch Olicity and genuinely don't see any chemistry which is so hard for me to grasp! 😂

Granted I didn't see any chemistry from any of the relationships on CM. 

I am thinking through it now and all I remember was various grisly cases and the stand out killers especially the one played by Keith Carradine who is my beloved Conrad Dalton 😅

@JenMD soon after I posted that question I got a youtube update telling me one of my Chinese series reviewers made a video especially to rant about GoT (she NEVER talks about Western stuff normally).

Seems like a very varied sample of people find it poor.
