This show is really finding its groove!  It is much improved from the pilot episode until now.  I laugh out loud consistently watching this show lately.  And the two leads continue to be awesome and cute together.

Another funny episode (pean.h.d cracked me up) and it got a little dusty in the house at the end. I love how Henry and Eliza's friendship has blossomed.

I like Julia as well. I hope they continue to keep her not crazy and jealous of Eliza- it's refreshing. Plus, love she's a pediatric urologist since that specialist isn't depicted much on tv.

I can't believe how much this show had grown on me. The leads are so good together. It breaks my heart that this has been cancelled. I hope the final episode that the network burns off ends on a sweet note.

I also liked this one. I felt bad for Eliza in this one.  I have always liked the character because she is a bit geeky and sad, (eating in front of the trashcan) in a fashionable package. It seems clear how much she has learned to value real life friendships.

 

I laughed out loud when she actually got up there and introduced the keynote speaker with something like "and now this guy" and no one cared.

This show has grown on me so I am sorry to see it getting the toss.  I've come to love some of the incredibly smart slow subtle buildups.  Some of the silliness can be a bit much but overall this is so much watchable than some of the multi-season sitcoms that will no doubt return next fall inexplicably.  I just hope that both leads get noticed for their work here (not that their other previous work was not noticeable) and picked up for something that is at least as worthy of their talents.  And isn't on Netflix or Amazon or Showtime or something I have to pay extra to get.

I only have one big ole nitpick.  Eliza is the top salesperson for a pediatric drug company.  Should should have been able to get in to see a pediatric urologist very easily and had no qualms about doing so. 

 

That being said, I still loved the episode.  Eliza made a friend and was so afraid to lose him.  It was sweet.  And besides the leads, the best thing about the show is the boss.  "Shines like a diamond."  hah!

Very true. Though perhaps it's not her territory, and that would be seen as transgressive in a way even Eliza understands. But mostly, I just appreciate the waiting room scene. The look that Eliza gives that little girl talking about her fave book was a wonderful mixture of disdain, puzzlement, and fear.

 

A lot of Henry's lessons are silly or strangely neo-luddite. "Woman who spends all day on the phone" was a trope of "technology is killing civilized behavior" hysterics back in its day. But it set up some great physical comedy from Karen Gillan. I loved her answering the phone while balancing it on her head.

Amen to all.  I just had to "like" every comment.  

 

I have been a little down in the dumps and this show just makes me happy.  It is sweet and a little madcap.  No other new show has interested me so I am really sad to see it go.

 

They are a good couple and both have found their humanity.  They challenge each other.

 

A lot of criticism is about the name of the show, which I too thought was confusing.  Can anyone think of a decent name for this show??  just curious.

I wasn't sure if anything would top Eliza's "tiny, sterile, micro-pocket lady-boy" description, but then Julia counters it later with the "jolly ginger giantess" description, and I was proven wrong.  That is so Eliza!  And, the size difference between Allison Miller and Karen Gillan really was noticeable, so I'm glad it was brought up. 

 

Good episode.  I liked that Eliza was acting out, but it didn't feel like it was because she "loves" Henry (although, I"m sure it is heading there... if they have the time), but because she was afraid over losing his friendship and advice.  Interesting that it felt like Henry completely missed that, and seemed to think she was just being narcissistic, and probably made it worse.  Not surprised that it worked out, since I don't think this is going to be a show where stuff lingers on through various episodes.  But, I really do like the Henry/Eliza relationship.

 

The cake was the greatest thing ever.

 

Really not happy that we are on borrowed time.  Not having John Cho and Karen Gillan on television together is going to be very upsetting.  Not looking forward to that day.

Between this show and Black-ish, I've come to realize the rich vein of comedy that Harriet Tubman provides. So, so funny. And Gillan's physical comedy chops with the two phones was inspired. Klezmer cake for everyone!

I'm sad to hear this show is being cancelled.  I enjoy it and I like that my daughter can watch it with me and I'm not too worried about inappropriate topics.  We're Whovians so having "Amy Pond" on our TV on a weekly basis makes us happy.  We'll miss her and we'll miss this show.  I feel like it's found its groove and I'll be sorry to see it go.  We need more lighthearted fare on TV.

Reading your post, I realize that Eliza's "sterile" comment referred to Julia's "clean doctor's office sterility" rather than infertility.

 

The nerd in me thought her comment suggested that Julia's height was caused by Turner Syndrome, a genetic condition that results in short stature, stunted puberty, and infertility. I actually looked up the actress Allison Miller to see if Turner Syndrome is listed somewhere in her bio, but it is not.

 

My impression from this episode was that one of the reasons Henry missed Eliza was because after spending so much time with Julia and loving how similar they are, he also realized how much he likes Eliza because she is so different from him and takes him out of his comfort zone.

 

*Sigh* I'm going to miss this show. Maybe it'll be picked up by another network. Maybe BET will pick it up? (I'm only half-kidding). The cast has several people of color.

I must have been watching a different show then everyone else on here because I found Eliza very cringe worthy tonight.  Though I did like at the end that she decided she could do the keynote speech on her own without anyone's help.  I really hope they don't go the romance route.

Finally finished this last aired episode. As others have said, I liked "My Fair Selfie." Keep the "buzzy" word in, but with a nod to the traditional story as a way to attract viewers of varying ages and demographics.

Cute little thing I noticed: The background music at the beginning of the episode was Bastille's "Flaws," which is a bit perfect. An excerpt from the lyrics:

I still find the show funny but I think they go too far with Henry sometimes. The conceit really holds the show back. On the one hand there's the social media angle and on the other hand there's the My Fair Lady/Pygmalion aspect. I wish they'd work a bit more subtly with both sometimes. I'm fine with Henry being a curmudgeon who is well-versed in rules and etiquette but fails to actually connect with people meaningful and who is rude though he should know better. It's him occasionally being as baffled as Eliza about how to proceed in the real world and using overly formal speech that bothers me. I know the show has already been cancelled but I don't need it to go into Bones "is Temperance Brennan on the autism spectrum" territory. It's better than that. 

 

I can't believe they cast the actress from Go On as his love interest. It's like they wanted to get cancelled. Bless them.
