S01.E06: Love Is A Battlefield

Based on the episode title, I think we can guess what the frontrunner for "Song remade and performed by breathy female over the tag" will be.

That was some fun casting, with Jessica Tuck, Alex Carter, and Caity Lotz all showing up.  I know they had character names, but I was just like, "So Nan Flanagan from True Blood is being stalked and she claims it's Jason Bly from Burn Notice, and his new girlfriend, Sara Lance from Arrow.  But, twist!  It was Nan all along!"

I should have known that dog was going to die.  Kevin Williamson loves to kill dogs.

So, Jack's dark past was disappointing, as I expected.  Basically, it sounds like he cheated on Amanda with a witness or something, and it was hidden so the cast wouldn't be tampered with, which is why he will be ruined, if it gets out.  Lame.  And he was always a suckass dad, but when his own father passed away three months ago, he then suddenly decided to "turn a new leaf."  And, it looks like Amanda is already falling for it.  Lame again.  Please kill this stupid plot, show.

Holy crap!  That kid is a better stalker then Jack!  He just popped out of nowhere like Batman!  But, I'm guessing the fact he doesn't like Trent/Warren Kole, means that Trent is going to end up being a jerk of some kind.

I'd never seen this show before tonight and it's not my cup of tea but I watched it for Caity Lotz. It was neat seeing the True Blood alums, as well. And I love Maggie Q. But I won't be watching again.

Is Dylan McDermott supposed to be a stalker, too? Because his case seemed kind of textbook from what I saw. Meets with his son and runs away when sighted by an adult? And then waits for his ex in the dark wearing all black at the end? Is he meant to be creepy? Because he's creepy.

It will never not be funny when people start throwing themselves into walls to fake an attack. It was funny when Emma Roberts did it in Scream 4 and it was still hilarious when Nan the deranged divorcee did it here. I found myself enjoying her insanity if I'm honest. She seemed to be having a good time. The dog thing was messed up, but it wasn't too graphic at least. I can't decide what's worse though - did a man or a woman write that line about rich female divorcees?

I thought for sure that Melissa would be the stalker or that her and Nan would end up working together, but she wound up kidnapped and helpless. I'm a big fan of Caity Lotz but it was a wasted opportunity to not have her backflipping out a window or something after karate chopping the dog in flashback. The episode definitely capitalized on her ability to portray vulnerability.

That video by the pool kept making me think of Veronica Mars.

And all kinds of no to the cheesy coversong ending. It most certainly should not have been a Pat Benatar kind of day.

The explosive situation between Donald McDuck and the Röhmbot finally detonates... with all the force of a wet firecracker.

Case-of-the-week highly predictable -- it couldn't be the ex husband, his new girlfriend was an obvious red herring, I discounted the possibility of the new assistant, so that left only...  The arrival of the pool-side lovemaking video only confirmed my suspicions.

Late entry of the boy-toy for hire was a little Deus ex machina for my taste. Indicates a weak plotline.

So, am I supposed to come away from this feeling sorry for McDuck?  Because that ain't gonna happen.

That was such a Nan thing to do, too.

And thank you because I was staring at the husband trying to remember who he was.

So, did we get not one but two whiney covers of songs? This show needs to stop that like now.

The reason behind rohms issue with Dylan was disappointing because it seems like they don't have the balls to make him a full on psycho.

This show is horrible. The only two people on this show that I can handle are Maggie Q and Elizabeth Rohm. They need to kill off Dylan's character ASAP as he sucks. He can take the other 2 people in the office with him. Then have Maggie Q investigate the cases and bring them to ADA Rohm to prosecute.

I enjoyed this episode for the pure camp of the divorcee's performance and the Poor Man's Lindsay Lohan-looking girlfriend, and because I thought Elizabeth Rohm looked absolutely gorgeous.

Some artists use a paintbrush - the writers of CBS procedurals use a wrecking ball ..

This show is always screaming - "wait for the twist !" - and there always seems to be one. We were hoping for the ex-wife and ex-husband to both be a little psycho.

The idea that a spurned ex can't be satisfied with divorce, but feels the urge to utterly destroy the other could be a satisfyingly complicated story. Could be.

Still, we continue to enjoy the show for what it is. It makes for good recorded material during Thursday night's soap-fest.

We are slowly becoming post-live viewers -- especially during the political ad bombardment of the past few months in our area..

Why can't the ex wife mother of the child just go away. She is not necessary. Everything about her is wrong and annoying.

The thing with the show is that the stalking, or most of it, seems to be taking place before the episodes begin, and we are seeing only the conclusion. It makes the show like any other procedural. I wish they would follow a case that creates the suspense of being stalked, the paranoia, the fear, but maybe I am asking for too much.

Maggie Q still fails to wow me.

Yes, and it is the only one really. I mentioned before that I don't like she shows drag stories throughout the season, like this one with Beth, but the lack of actual stalking stories - as in per episode - make me wish for some the serialized Beth. This can also drag for too long and get boring.

I enjoyed this ep. I liked seeing Jack and Ben without the usual animosity and the case of the week had a twist I didn't see coming. I felt optimistic about the resolution with the situation with Jack and his ex; he told Beth part of the story and they hashed out some of their issues regarding their shared past so maybe this storyline will come to a close soon. I continue to enjoy DM!

I think with the season long arc of the guy stalking Beth we get that, but we also get the case of the week of what they are working on.  How the show is set up, they have to have it be a short game because everything needs to come to a head and be wrapped up quickly.  So far, so good with me.

Not that I'm a big fan of Pat Benatar, but I remember when shows used the real music. I still remember St. Elsewhere using ZZTop in an episode, and not just music but an actual video.

I suppose in these times music rights are too expensive for the average show?

 Detective Vartann from CSI, also.

His best role though, was on a Canadian show called 'Made In Canada' where he played a moronic actor named Michael Rushton, who played the characters of Damacles and his evil twin Hamacles in a Xena Warrior Princess parody called 'The Sword of Damacles'.  He will always be Damacles to me.

UO of the century is I'm actually loving the relationship between Rohm and McDermott now that they've stopped having the same conversation in every episode. The actors have great chemistry and I definetly want to see an angry hookup between them. Looks like there's a lot of unfinished busines there.

Has McDermott always been so hoarse? He sounds hungover in every episode.

So I went and watched this episode on streaming just because of the combination of Caity Lotz and Maggie Q (it's just too bad they couldn't get into a martial arts fight in this episode). And having seen that, I'm not going to watch any more. Like most CBS procedurals, it's just fear porn. Besides, I don't understand if we're supposed to sympathize with Dylan McDermott's character or not.

Didn't one of the characters describe the ex-husband's new wife as a fake blonde with fake boobies and a fake tan? Caity Lotz is a natural blonde, didn't have much of a tan in this episode, and has a pretty modest bust.
