ny1221 February 22, 2021 Share February 22, 2021 The penultimate week of 'Kids Baking Championship's ratings were up 7 percent in viewers and 4% demo from last season's (1.04M/0.23 on 2/24/2020). 'KBC' picked up steam midseason after starting considerably down from last season. 'Worst Cooks' continues its downward spiral, with one of the lowest rated episodes ever, without major competition from sports or news events. The 2 remaining episodes must get big ratings to avoid becoming the lowest rated season ever: so far, 'WC' is down 12% in viewers and 18% demo from last year (Alton Brown's season; lowest rated ever). 'Cooks' is one of the shows that didn't get any on-air promo time from FN, in favor of Discovery+. Another show impacted by FN's promo relinquishing was 'Supermarket Stakeout,' which aired its final episode before being taken off the schedule. The show was down 27% in viewers and 30% demo from last season. Finally, 'Kitchen Crash' ended its 6 episode season up 27% in viewers and 21% demo from the previous week. The pre-COVID pilot was the 2nd highest rated episode out of the 6, which means viewers were more receptive to the original format than the COVID restricted episodes. This show had a lot against it: 4 out of 6 weeks, political events had viewers glued to news networks, promotion for it stopped a week before its premiere, due to the launch of Discovery+ and its lead-in ('GGG: Delivery') didn't get strong ratings, airing repackaged shows its final 2 weeks. It'll take a lot of convincing to FN about renewing the show for another season and, if it goes ahead, more likely would end on Disvovery+. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOOD NETWORK RATINGS FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAMS (February 8-14, 2021) Source: Showbuzzdaily (Rank/Show/Timeslot/# of Viewers/Demo rating 18-49 in parenthesis) 1---THE KITCHEN---Saturday 11:00AM---1,128,000 (0.15) 2---PIONEER WOMAN: HOME SWEET HOME---Saturday 10:00AM---1,124,000 (0.16) 3---KIDS BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP---Monday 9:00PM---1,110,000 (0.24) 4---DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES---Friday 9:00PM---1,035,000 (0.25) 5---GIRL MEETS FARM---Sunday 11:00AM---981,000 (0.20) 6---DELICIOUS MISS BROWN---Sunday 12:00PM---931,000 (0.14) 7---CHOPPED---Tuesday 9:00PM---918,000 (0.23) 8---GUY’S RANCH KITCHEN---Saturday 12:00PM---880,000 (0.13) 9---BEAT BOBBY FLAY---Thursday 8:00PM---842,000 (0.21) 10-WORST COOKS IN AMERICA---Sunday 9:00PM---801,000 (0.19) GUY’S GROCERY GAMES REPACKAGED---Wednesday 9:00PM---716,000 (0.23) 11-SUPERMARKET STAKEOUT (Finale)---Tuesday 10:00PM---579,000 (0.13) 12-KITCHEN CRASH (Finale)---Wednesday 10:00PM---473,000 (0.17) 1 Link to comment
Maverick February 22, 2021 Share February 22, 2021 I only watched a couple of episodes of Kitchen Crash. What was different about the pre-COVID pilot that was so much better? Because the ones I saw weren't exactly socially distanced and the (lack of) quality of the show didn't have anything to do with COVID. I wouldn't be sad if this returned as streaming only. I noticed even though my cable guide said Supermarket Stakeout was supposed to be on last week but a Chopped rerun aired instead. I was surprised it did well enough to warrant a second season but I still like it better than Kitchen Crash. I guess the rest of the season will be burned off on Saturday afternoons. I think Worst Cooks is just worn out. the only thing that changes from season to season is the rival chef and that doesn't really change anything (except for Alton who added 100% ,more tension). 1 Link to comment

ny1221 March 3, 2021 Share March 3, 2021 As expected, 'Worst Cooks in America' had its worst rated finale and season ever, down 29 percent in viewers and 35% demo from last year's finale with Alton Brown (1.13M/0.31 on 3/8/2020). Out of the 8 episodes of the season, only 2 barely cracked the 1M mark and only once made the top 5 most watched originals for the week. Also for the first time, the show didn't average 1M viewers for the season, not even 900,000. It averaged 891,000/0.22, down 14% in viewers and 18% demo from 2020. 'Spring Baking Championship's premiere was down 10% in viewers but up 4% in demo from last year (1.13M/0.24 on 3/9/2020), while the pilot for the show 'Save The Leftovers,' hosted by Antonia Lofaso, was the second lowest rated special or pilot so far this year, bested only by the second preview episode of 'Cakealikes.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOOD NETWORK RATINGS FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAMS (February 22-28, 2021) Source: Showbuzzdaily (Rank/Show/Timeslot/# of Viewers/Demo rating 18-49 in parenthesis) 1---THE KITCHEN---Saturday 11:00AM---1,288,000 (0.22) 2---PIONEER WOMAN: HOME SWEET HOME---Saturday 10:00AM---1,223,000 (0.22) 3---GUY’S RANCH KITCHEN---Saturday 12:00PM---1,110,000 (0.20) 4---CHOPPED: MEAT FIGHT---Tuesday 9:00PM---1,056,000 (0.30) 5---GIRL MEETS FARM---Sunday 11:00AM---1,051,000 (0.17) 6---SPRING BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP (Season Premiere, 90min.)---Monday 9:00PM---1,020,000 (0.25) 7---DELICIOUS MISS BROWN---Sunday 12:00PM---1,013,000 (0.17) 8---DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES---Friday 9:00PM---944,000 (0.20) 9---BEAT BOBBY FLAY---Thursday 8:00PM---851,000 (0.23) 10-WORST COOKS IN AMERICA (Season Finale, 90min)---Sunday 9:00PM---818,000 (0.20) 11-SPRING BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP: MEMORABLE BAKES (Special)---Monday 10:30PM---661,000 (0.15) 12-GUY’S GROCERY GAMES: DELIVERY---Wednesday 9:00PM---632,000 (0.22) 13-SAVE THE LEFTOVERS (Pilot)---Wednesday 10:00PM---447,000 (0.12) 1 Link to comment

ny1221 March 15, 2021 Share March 15, 2021 Although the second season premiere of 'Tournament of Champions' had almost a 40 percent increase in viewers and 25% demo over season 1's premiere (838,000/0.24 on Wed 3/4, 2020), given the huge amount of promotion that the show got for weeks (no other show on FN right now gets any promotion unless its tied to a sponsor), ratings aren't 'Holiday Baking Championship' or 'Buddy vs Duff' numbers. Great, but not spectacular. The show didn't premiere as the most watched show for the week either. We'll see the reults for episode 2, as viewership increased by 25% at that time during season 1. The season premiere of 'The Great Food Truck Race' last Sunday 3/7 at 699,000 viewers and 0.16 demo, was the lowest rated season premiere ever, even lower than the holiday edition's premiere (749,000/0.21 on Wed 11/27, 2019). Maybe the reason for this drop was the fact that its lead-in ('Tournament of Champions Recap Show') lost more than a third of 'TOC's audience. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOOD NETWORK RATINGS FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAMS (March 1-7, 2021) Source: Showbuzzdaily (Rank/Show/Timeslot/# of Viewers/Demo rating 18-49 in parenthesis) 1---THE KITCHEN---Saturday 11:00AM---1,281,000 (0.19) 2---TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS (90min Season Premiere; New Day & Time)---Sunday 8:00PM---1,167,000 (0.30) 3---SPRING BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP---Monday 9:00PM---1,034,000 (0.22) 4---PIONEER WOMAN: HOME SWEET HOME---Saturday 10:00AM---1,033,000 (0.17) 5---GUY’S RANCH KITCHEN---Saturday 12:00PM---992,000 (0.15) 6---BEAT BOBBY FLAY---Thursday 8:00PM---973,000 (0.25) 7---DELICIOUS MISS BROWN---Sunday 12:00PM---954,000 (0.16) 8---GIRL MEETS FARM---Sunday 11:00AM---941,000 (0.17) 9---DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES---Friday 9:00PM---922,000 (0.19) 10-TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS: S1: BEHIND THE BATTLES (Special)---Sunday 7:00PM---853,000 (0.18) 11-CHOPPED: MEAT FIGHT (Finale)---Tuesday 9:00PM---785,000 (0.23) 12-EASTER BASKET CHALLENGE (Series Premiere)---Monday 10:00PM---780,000 (0.20) 13-TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS: RECAP SHOW (Series Premiere)---Sunday 9:30PM---763,000 (0.18) 14-THE GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE (Season Premiere; New Day & Time)---Sunday 10:00PM---699,000 (0.16) 15-GUY’S GROCERY GAMES: DELIVERY---Wednesday 9:00PM---681,000 (0.17) 16-THE BIG BAKE (Season Premiere)---Monday 11:00PM---547,000 (0.14) 1 Link to comment

Yeah No March 16, 2021 Share March 16, 2021 Just an FYI to anyone that may care - FN has brought back "Dinner Impossible" with Robert Irvine to air on broadcast cable and Discovery+. Also, "Restaurant Impossible" new episodes were only airing on Discovery+ this season but FN made the decision to bring it back to broadcast cable as well as air on Discovery+. bad things are bad March 16, 2021 Share March 16, 2021 I find it mindboggling that there are people who would actually subscribe to a streaming service because they want to watch Robert Irvine. Apparently not enough of them, though. 4 Link to comment
Maverick March 16, 2021 Share March 16, 2021 When Restaurant: Impossible returned it actually got decent ratings. I assume FN thought there was a lot of pent up Robert Irvine love out there and that it would make a good show for streaming only. I also assume that's why they brought back Dinner: Impossible. I'm beginning to wonder if, with so many of their new shows failing to catch on, Food Network is raiding the vault to see what all they can reboot. They've brought back both of Irvine's shows, the tried to bring back Food Network Challenge (with an abomination that had no business using that name) and I saw Claire Robinson on Beat Bobby Flay recently. She's been gone from FN for a while and they'll often use a gig there to promote some other show, special or personality. 1 Link to comment

ny1221 March 21, 2021 Share March 21, 2021 Last week's episode 2 of 'Tournament of Champions' was up 2 percent in viewers and stayed even in the demo. It remained behind 'The Kitchen' as the most watched show of the week, but just barely. The show still isn't getting the big game show event numbers as other shows, despite tons of promotion by FN, so we'll see what happens this week. 'TOC's recap show was down 3% in viewers but up 5 in demo. 'The Great Food Truck Race' was up 5% in viewers and a whopping 25 in demo, and it retains most of the 'TOC's recap show audience (almost 40% of the audience leaves as soon as the 90min 'TOC' ends), while 'Restaurant Impossible' returned with basically the same numbers it got when it previewed for Discovery+ back in January. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOOD NETWORK RATINGS FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAMS (March 8-14, 2021) Source: Showbuzzdaily (Rank/Show/Timeslot/# of Viewers/Demo rating 18-49 in parenthesis) 1---THE KITCHEN---Saturday 11:00AM---1,195,000 (0.18) 2---TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS (90min.)---Sunday 8:00PM---1,193,000 (0.30) 3---GIRL MEETS FARM---Sunday 11:00AM---1,042,000 (0.18) 4---DELICIOUS MISS BROWN---Sunday 12:00PM---1,039,000 (0.22) 5---PIONEER WOMAN: HOME SWEET HOME---Saturday 10:00AM---996,000 (0.17) 6---SPRING BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP---Monday 9:00PM---954,000 (0.21) 7---GUY’S RANCH KITCHEN---Saturday 12:00PM---923,000 (0.16) 8---DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES---Friday 9:00PM---863,000 (0.21) 9---CHOPPED---Tuesday 9:00PM---835,000 (0.24) 10-BEAT BOBBY FLAY---Thursday 8:00PM---784,000 (0.21) 11-RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE (Return)---Thursday 9:00PM---762,000 (0.20) 12-TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS RECAP SHOW---Sunday 9:30PM---738,000 (0.19) 13-THE GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE---Sunday 10:00PM---737,000 (0.20) 14-DINNER IMPOSSIBLE (Return; Season Premiere)---Thursday 10:00PM---656,000 (0.16) 15-GUY’S GROCERY GAMES: DELIVERY---Wednesday 9:00PM---634,000 (0.16) 16-EASTER BASKET CHALLENGE---Monday 10:00PM---593,000 (0.13) 17-THE BIG BAKE---Monday 11:00PM---340,000 (0.07) 1 Link to comment

ny1221 April 13, 2021 Share April 13, 2021 2021’s 1st quarter marked the launch of Discovery+ and Discovery promoted it tirelessly over all its networks, included FN. The only show that got the same amount of endless promotion as D+ was ‘Tournament of Champions.’ As a result, many long running primetime shows (like 'The Great Food Truck Race,' 'Worst Cooks' and 'Spring Baking Championship') weren't promoted at all; as a result, they had huge audience drops, with 'Food Truck Race' losing a quarter of its viewers and a third of its demo from a year ago and ‘Worst Cooks’ having its lowest rated season ever. 5 out of 17 regular series had audience increases compared to 1Q 2020. Daytime had 4 out of the top 5 most watched shows of the quarter, while primetime dominated in demos. ‘The Kitchen’ was the most watched show for the quarter, but ‘Girl Meets Farm’ beat it in the 18-49 demo by a small margin and beat ‘Pioneer Woman’ in both demos. In primetime, ‘Chopped,’ which has become a gimmicky show, actually improved in demos and was up 7% in viewers from 1Q ’20. Of the quarter's new shows: ‘Easter Basket Challenge,’ ‘Dinner Impossible’ and ‘Kitchen Crash’ were audience disappointments. ‘Crash’s first 3 episodes coincided with huge news events that affected most entertainment shows and just like ‘Amy Schumer Learns to Cook,’ ‘Crash’ had better demos than some of the other new shows. Maybe because of that, Jeff Mauro announced that the network is relaunching the show. In terms of pilots & specials, a preview of ‘Magnolia Table’ had the top 2 spots with good but not spectacular numbers, while ‘Save the Leftovers’ and ‘Cakealikes’ weren’t successful. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOOD NETWORK 1Q 2021 RATINGS MOST WATCHED SHOWS (Jan.1-Mar.31, 2021) (Only Originals; in millions of viewers) Source: Showbuzzdaily 1---THE KITCHEN---16.16 2---PIONEER WOMAN---14.98 3---GIRL MEETS FARM---11.95 4---GUY’S RANCH KITCHEN---11.94 5---DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES---11.79 5---DELICIOUS MISS BROWN---10.68 7---BEAT BOBBY FLAY---10.01 8---KIDS BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP---8.65 9---GUY’S GROCERY GAMES: DELIVERY---7.22 10-WORST COOKS IN AMERICA---7.13 11-SPRING BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP---5.71 12-TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS---4.77 13-CHOPPED: GRUDGE MATCH---4.47 14-SUPERMARKET STAKEOUT---3.58 15-CHOPPED---3.45 16-EASTER BASKET CHALLENGE---3.37 17-TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS RECAP SHOW---2.83 18-CHOPPED: MEAT FIGHT---2.76 19-KITCHEN CRASH---2.74 20-THE GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE---2.73 21-RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE---2.37 22-THE BIG BAKE---2.21 23-DINNER IMPOSSIBLE---1.75 24-WORST COOKS: DIRTY DISHES---1.34 ---------------------------------------------------------- FOOD NETWORK 1Q 2021 RATINGS AVG. ny1221 April 17, 2021 Share April 17, 2021 (edited) The season finale of 'The Great Food Truck Race' was down 30 percent in viewers and 38% demo from last year's finale (967,000/0.26 on Thursday 4/23/2020). For the season, it averaged 664,000/0.16, down 31% in viewers and 36% demo from 2020. Clearly, warm locations work better for this show. 'Tournament of Champions' was once again the most watched original for the week. With its finale still to air, the show is up 6% in viewers and down 6% in demo from last year. A year after the 'In The Kitchen with Joanna Gaines' special aired on FN, becoming the network's most watched show of 2020 with more than 2M viewers, the magic didn't translate this year, regardless of the tireless and endless promotion the Gaines get on all Discovery networks; the best 'Magnolia Table' did was 3rd place, down 46% in viewers and 60% demo from 'In The Kitchen' last year. So far, ratings for Magnolia shows that have aired on FN, have been good but not spectacular. -------------------------------------------------------------------------FOOD NETWORK RATINGS FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAMS (April 5-11, 2021) Source: Showbuzzdaily (Rank/Show/Timeslot/# of Viewers/Demo rating 18-49 in parenthesis) 1---TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS---Sun 8:00PM---1,387,000 (0.33) 2---THE KITCHEN---Sat 11:00AM---1,204,000 (0.19) 3---D+: MAGNOLIA TABLE 1 (Special)---Sat 12:00PM---1,144,000 (0.21) 4---GIRL MEETS FARM---Sun 11:00AM---1,106,000 (0.24) 5---SPRING BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP---Mon 9:00PM---988,000 (0.17) 6---D+: MAGNOLIA TABLE 2 (Special)---Sat 1:00PM---978,000 (0.14) 7---D+: ZOE BAKES (Special)---Sat 12:30PM---950,000 (0.19) 8---PIONEER WOMAN: HOME SWEET HOME---Sat 10AM---945,000 (0.16) 9---BEAT BOBBY FLAY---Thu 8:00PM---796,000 (0.20) 10-RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE---Thu 9:00PM---794,000 (0.15) 11-CHOPPED: HANGRY BASKETS (Finale)---Tue 9:00PM---756,000 (0.22) 12-D+: RANCH TO TABLE (Special)---Sat 1:30PM---756,000 (0.11) 13-TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS RECAP---Sun 9:30PM---752,000 (0.19) 14-DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES---Fri 9:00PM---730,000 (0.15) 15-GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE (S. ny1221 April 25, 2021 Share April 25, 2021 (edited) ‘Tournament of Champions’ season 2's finale was up 12 percent in viewers but down 12 in demo from last year’s (1.55M/0.49 on Wed., April 1st, 2020). Overall, even with a better day and timeslot and endless promotion on all Discovery networks, the show was up only 12% in viewers and stayed even in demos from Season 1. With coverage of the Royal funeral from London last Saturday morning on many cable and broadcast networks, the duo of ‘Pioneer Woman’ and ‘The Kitchen’ hit their lowest ratings in five months. -------------------------------------------------------------------------FOOD NETWORK RATINGS FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAMS (April 12-18, 2021) Source: Showbuzzdaily (Rank/Show/Timeslot/# of Viewers/Demo rating 18-49 in parenthesis) 1---TOURN. ny1221 April 29, 2021 Share April 29, 2021 (edited) How low can 'Worst Cooks' go...in ratings that is? The premiere of 'WCA,' with Michael Symon as co-host, became the show's lowest rated premiere ever, down 7 percent in viewers and 23% demo from Carla Hall's in January (1,002,000/0.22 on 1/3), which was the lowest. Compared to 'Worst Cooks Celebrity' (which 'Best of the Worst' apparently is taking over this year) is even worst: down 31 and 51% respectively (1,356,000/0.35 on 5/20/2020). This is the first time ever that a 'WCA' premiere was watched by less than a million viewers. We'll see how the show does next, as they had the Oscars as an excuse last Sunday, although other cable entertainment shows weren't affected by it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------FOOD NETWORK RATINGS FOR ORIGINAL PROGRAMS (April 19-25, 2021) Source: Showbuzzdaily (Rank/Show/Timeslot/# of Viewers/Demo rating 18-49 in parenthesis) THE KITCHEN REPACKAGED---Sat 11:00AM---1,132,000 (0.15) *1---PIONEER WOMAN: HOME SWEET HOME--Sat 10:00AM--1,012,000 (0.18) 2---SYMON’S DINNERS---Sat 12:00PM---950,000 (0.13) 3---GIRL MEETS FARM---Sun 11:00AM---934,000 (0.14) 4---WORST COOKS (S. ny1221 May 5, 2021 Share May 5, 2021 (edited) No original reached a million viewers, as the Saturday morning lineup again reached new lows, as well as the Thursday night shows; plus, 'Worst Cooks' went down 21% in viewers and 12% demo from its premiere. 'Spring Baking Championship's S7 finale was down 26 percent in viewers and 27% demo from last year's finale (1,314,000/0.29 on 5/4/2020); this is 'SBC's lowest rated finale and season ever, as only the first two episodes were watched barely by a million viewers. On average, this season was down 26% in viewers and 28% demo from 2020. The show, which had stable viewership over the past 3 seasons, very rarely was promoted by FN, contrary to other shows, like 'Tournament of Champions' and Discovery+ offerings 'Magnolia Table,' and Oprah Winfrey's 'Super Soul' among others. Yeah No May 6, 2021 Share May 6, 2021 Maybe if they didn't have a new season of "Worst Cooks" every 2 months the ratings might not be so bad. These sinking ratings across the network are just incredible. 5 Link to comment

novhappy May 12, 2021 Share May 12, 2021 I used to watch FN a lot, all the Baking Championships, next FN star, stand and stirs etc... I can’t watch any of it anymore. Their schtick is so stale. Connect w a personal story. Shows like worst cook and several other competition shows seem very fake and scripted. And way too much pioneer woman god have mercy show more of the other stand and stirs! 3 Link to comment

With a minimum of effort and ceasing to continually drag out the same old tired hosts/judges, this network could be charming or interesting or engaging. For example, The Kitchen is slotted in the primo time slot and day, yet IMO, it has run its course with these hosts. I know it must be difficult for every show to present new food (how many meat loafs do we need) but I do believe that shuffling personalities, locations, themes for most of the shows would help. But I am a realist and know that the hosts for every show are under contract and probably need to fulfill a certain number of hosting/judging obligations, so The Kitchen won’t change soon. Maybe with these ratings and things getting back to somewhat normalcy, TPTB will read comments and discover a fresh perspective. And please, we hate the baking twists!! 5 Link to comment
ny1221 May 13, 2021 Share May 13, 2021 (edited) Monday 5/3's 'Best Baker in America' season premiere (878,000 viewers/0.17 demo) was down 25 percent in viewers and 35% demo from season 3's premiere (1.17 million viewers/0.26 demo on 5/13/2019). On the brighter side, it was up 12% in viewers and 6% demo from the premiere of the game show airing at this time on Monday at 9PM last year: 'Bakeaway Camp with Martha Stewart' (783,000/0.16). Meanwhile, the premiere of 'Chopped: Sweets' (636,000/0.16) was even in viewers but down 20% demo from last season's premiere (636,000/0.20 on 8/4/2020). Nevertheless, it definitely performed better than the 'Cakealikes' disaster. Only one original reached the million dollar viewership benchmark last week and, although 'Worst Cooks' went up around 3% in viewers, its still down a third in viewers and half in demo from 'Worst Cooks Celebrity' this time last year and, so far, its the lowest rated season ever. I really hope he goes back to filming GGG at the fake supermarket soon. I had to delete the home version off my DVR after a while because how many times can you watch the same people cook at home from a box and not even have anyone taste their food? And all the variations he has come up with still don't have judges tasting the food even though he has some of the judging chefs over to his house. And this makes any kind of sense at all? He has also appeared on Tournament of Champions which was filmed during the pandemic so I don't get why he can't find a way to bring back Flavortown. And his son is nice but boring, IMHO. 1 Link to comment
RealityCheck June 20, 2021 Share June 20, 2021 Food Network Premieres a New Five-Episode Series, MONEY HUNGRY, on Tuesday, July 27th at 10PM Quote In the ultimate test of their taste buds, talented chefs, restaurant critics, cookbook authors and accomplished home cooks are competitors vying to win $50,000, hosted by Kal Penn. With each dish dramatically revealed under a cloche, the action begins with sixty seconds of rapid-fire tastings where the competitors must identify specific ingredients, then proceeds to the main course round where the challenges become more difficult with every reveal. Each episode has two guest panelists, who are available to provide limited use "flavor favors" lifelines to competitors. Link to comment
WritinMan July 4, 2021 Share July 4, 2021 Yeah, cancel good, actually useful cooking shows like Baked in Vermont with Gesine Bullock-Prado and put on shit like Valerie's Hot Dish. Thanks Food Network. 6 Link to comment

Spunkygal July 31, 2021 Share July 31, 2021 To continue my tirade about this network, it is amazing that PBS can find interesting and unique chefs to actually demonstrate cooking and FN keeps rolling out its tired schtick of gimmicks and competitions and letting certain shows go on for too many seasons (looking at you, The Kitchen.) My PBS station is airing Kevin Belton’s Cookin’ Louisiana and it is hosted by a charming chef. His food looks great and I might even try a recipe or two. I was not familiar with him, so watched it for background noise. I was quickly interested in the food and his kind and playful personality without him being stupid, silly or loud like Sunny and Jeff. Of course PBS also has a few chefs who have been under contract for a while (Lidia, Joanne Weir, Pati What’s-her-name) but they are easier to digest long-term (ha!) than most of the FN hosts who are milked to death. I wonder how long Sunny, Jeff and other tired hosts on FN are under contract. You can’t tell me that there is no one else in this country who can present interesting food in a more professional manner. Methinks that TPTB at FN are just lazy. I don’t have (and will not subscribe to) D+ so maybe all the interesting shows are now over there? 3 Link to comment
chessiegal July 31, 2021 Share July 31, 2021 FN and PBS have different goals. FN is about making money. They've obviously found that competition shows and the same characters get the ratings and therefore the $$$. PBS is about providing quality programing, and when it comes to cooking, that means instruction. I read that Sara Moulton said when her shows on FN were cancelled, it was tough for her. She talked about how hard it is to get sponsorship for her shows on PBS. 5 Link to comment

Spunkygal September 22, 2021 Share September 22, 2021 Not sure, but I think PBS owns the lovely Julia & Jacques franchise. No team could ever match the magic of those two together, IMO. 1 Link to comment
