FN burned off a new episode of Bakers & Fakers this morning.

I can't stand Guy Fieri but I did see this weekend on the national news that he served up food for the residents of Santa Ana, CA. He also lives there. He wasn't as obnoxious as he usually is on his shows. He was very serious and did his best to feed everybody.

The premiere of 'Guy's Big Project' got way less than a million viewers and has to be, without a doubt, one of the lowest rated premieres of a Sunday night game show on Food Network ever, worst than duds like 'Restaurant Express' or the second season of 'All-Star Academy'. It was a big mistake to move 'Holiday Baking Championship' to Monday nights, which suffered a sizable drop in ratings from the almost 2 million viewers it had on Sundays, just to keep Guy happy by giving him ANOTHER show, this time on FN's top slot. Food Network has to understand that not every show Guy does works.

They also have to understand that, other than when they're featured on the baking championships or 'Halloween Wars', the cake and cupcake making reality shows aren't working anymore as 'Vegas Cakes' ratings, as well as other shows, like the two or three Duff has had recently and 'Texas Cake House' proved.

Last night's ratings for the return of 'Iron Chef' (now 'Iron Chef Showdown') were 750,000 viewers and 0.22 demo, way down from other Wednesday night games like 'Worst Cooks,' 'Worst Cooks Celebrity' and even down from other misses like 'Cutthroat Kitchen Time Warp'. This has to be a letdown for the network, given the success of 'IC Gauntlet' and the big investment they made by bringing this show back.

'Guy's Big Project' second episode was up 1 percent in viewers and 33% in demo. It still remains one of Food Network's lowest (if not the lowest) Sunday 9PM game show ever. The network made a huge mistake moving 'Holiday Baking Championship' to Mondays. While 'Baking Championship' premiered to great ratings last Monday, those weren't as high as the almost 2 million it was getting on Sundays. Putting Guy on back to back hour shows other than 'DDD' was a bad idea, plus 'Big Project' is a boring show just to fill airtime, because none of the contestants seem to have what it takes to have a successful 'DDD' ripoff, which many people, from comedians, celebrities, bloggers and professional chefs have tried and failed. It's better for FN to send 'Big Project' to Mondays and 'Holiday Baking' and 'Cookie Challenge' to Sundays, given that Sundays at 10PM, the network has another unsuccessful cake store, cake making docurreality.

Finally, 'Iron Chef Showdown' and the clip show which follows it, premiered to disappointing numbers last Wednesday. Let's see if it improves on the next episodes.

It took a couple weeks for them to move 'Vegas Cakes' to Monday@11PM but, as they did with 'I Hart Food', they're still giving Guy tons of promotion, even knowing that the show failed and there's no way to turn it around. It's still advertised for this Sun@9PM. Don't know if contractually they're obligated to leave it on that timeslot the entire run (they did that with 'IHart) but this has been the lowest rated FN Sunday night show ever. They have to move it either to Sunday at 10PM or to Monday night and put 'Holiday Baking Championship' back to Sundays.

I love that not everything Guy touches turns to gold. Good grief, he has FOUR shows listed! Might as well call it the GF Network or Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner Network. Or Flavor Town. 

I am disappointed that there have been no commercials for Christmas Cake Wars on FN and it's not on their site. This is the holiday version of Halloween Wars which includes cake, sugar work and carving. Those seasonal shows perform really well. I am still holding out hope that they are just late with the promos.

Seems Cooking Channel actually IS doing a new season of The Best Thing I Ever Ate,,but it looks more like theyre doing it in t he style of Unique Eats/Sweets(speaking of which both those shows appear to have vanished from the network)

And it’s going to bomb cause it got no pre-air promotion like GBP but @ny1221 won’t rail against it since Guy isn’t on it. This isn’t a Guy issue, this is a Food Network issue. They’ve either gotten lazy or with the potential Discovery purchase of Scripps they are just getting everything out in their pipeline that they can until Discovery finalizes the purchase and brings their people in to make the network their own. Remember the purchase was announced end of July so they already had Food Truck Race promotion schedule probably set, all the premieres after that have been lacking in promotion.

I don't think Discovery will bring back quality cooking shows because ratings show that's not what people want. Quality cooking shows remain on PBS. Look what Discovery did to the former The Learning Channel - now TLC - turned it into the freak show channel.

The rumor is they would merge Food and Cooking. Also that Homestead Table pilot that aired today is basically just the same type of show they have but with a younger and cheaper host. Behind The Battle aired at 11 PM. Homestead Table has potential to be picked up, Crazy Delicious was DOA with that slot and now it’s totally DOA.

Food’s Baked In Vermont is actually a ready good show. Glad it’s a full series and not just a random pilot as I thought at first. Cajun Aces is a bit weird and a step I didn’t expect from Food Network, which is probably why it’s getting the burn off treatment with a double pump on saturday primetime. Again another show I thought was a pilot that’s actually a full series and to my knowledge neither got much promotion. I’ll stick with em but Food is definitely pumping out all their shows before Discovery takes over.

Looks like it did! Cajun Aces burmoff did solid but still at the bottom and it doesn’t have a consistent time slot which will hurt. I’m kinda hoping GBP gets another go on a different night and/or they have FNS take some things from it. It’s a good show that just didn’t get promoted and when it did it didn’t get promoted well. As I mentioned above air it after new compilation DDD episodes on Fridays in the same holiday timeframe and it would likely get better ratings and make more scheduling sense.
