Food Network and Cooking Channel: One is about food

WHY is Food channel showing the same shows this morning (Saturday) that they showed last Saturday morning in the same time slots? Helllloooo? I watch every Saturday from 7-10. Stupid Groundhog Day programming!

'Guy's Big Project's 6 episode season averaged 696,000 viewers-0.20 demo, the worst Sunday 9PM show ever. It's unlikely it'll have another season but, with FN you never know. Perhaps the only positive, if any, is that the pilots special didn't drop that much from 'Big Project' (599,000 viewers from 673,000), which is bad regardless. Don't think these pilots will last much from their six episode order.

This might serve FN to understand that not all shows with Guy will work and that people might be getting tired of watching him on so many shows. Right now, GGG works sometimes because of some gimmicks that are getting tired like judge's competitions, DDD-GGG crossovers, etc. and Guy's new Sunday cooking show reminds me of Paula Deen's last years on FN, where she became so lazy that she only talked and her sons/guests cooked. Guy now has a clique of people on every of his shows like Justin, Aarti, Damaris, Carl, Aaron, Alex, Duskie, Eric and Brian that basically are doing some of his shows for him.

The shows that are getting high ratings for FN right now are the ones with no of their 'A listers' (Guy, Bobby, Giada, Alton): the baking championships, 'The Kitchen' 'Worst Cooks', 'Halloween Wars' and 'Pioneer Woman' among others.

Why in the name of Julia Child aren't they promoting Baked in Vermont? This is a gem of a show, an absolute treasure. Please, FN, let's move on from Guy and your stale stars. I learn something new everytime I watch Baked in Vermont and the host is charming! 

P.S. Screw you, FN, for not bringing back Christmas Cake Wars. I am bitter about this.

I think FN made a mistake in not premiering it soon after Food Truck Race in that Sunday slot. With FNS followed by Race followed by Guy, they could have built a nice momentum of pitch a series/business shows. I tuned out after Race and and didn't return for Guy. I think I wasn't alone.

I love this show.  My husband watched it with me.  His comments were, "she's smart, skilled, & talented.  Her show is doomed on FN.  Their viewers want to watch crap like Guy & Ree".

You can rail all you want against GPB, it serves it purpose for the Holiday season AND allows Food Network to move their baking shows to Mondays to stabilize a night that they were having trouble with. Have Monday be baking and Sundays be FNS/FTR/WCIA/GBP/etc. Tuesday’s can be Chopped, Wednesdays Iron Chef, Thursday’s Bobby Flay, and Fridays Guy.

Also lets not discount the huge boost Cajun Aces got behind Baked In Vermont. Last I checked it was not scheduled to stay there this week but they would be crazy not to keep it there.

This too but I also have a feeling they weren’t exactly planning to air it now or they were waiting for the shows to be finished. Again it just feels like the overall gameplan right now is that they are clearing some innovatory for Discovery.

This makes me sad. After seeing what Discovery did to TLC, I wonder what degradation into crap tv they have planned for the Scripps channels. Support your PBS stations.

From Food Network Gossip:

He stated that a show called Return of the Eats will be premiering next year on Food Network and also streaming online.  Return of the Eats will be a half-hour show that will have additional scenes available for streaming viewers.  Alton also joked about having to cut down on the Diners, Drive Ins and Dives episodes that air on Food Network saying they will now have to go from 8 hours to 7.5 hours of that show.

Alton has said in the past that Food Network owns the rights to Good Eats, so he wouldn't be making anything by bringing it back.  I am not sure if the new show being called Return of the Eats changes anything.

It’s not in any danger. The Iron Chef block is but at least they’ve found a schedule that stabilizes Behind The Battle. Showdown saw a STEEP decline. I think a lot of people are getting tired of it. ESB I think will stick around and be placed on Fridays in a rotating block with Grill Dads for season 2 and beyond. Only reason it’s on Saturday is so they can show it right after GPB.

Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar to Close December 31

I came  here specifically to thank everyone in this thread who recommended it. Food Network used to be my go-to, in-the-background viewing, especially on weekend mornings, but that's been years. I'm DVRing and loving Baked in Vermont. I'd love more shows like that with a variety of cuisine.

 Ugh, I though Food Network was backing away from all the kiddified shows, but now we're being assaulted with commercials for Kids Baking Championship every commercial break.   I'm sure Kiddie Chopped, Kiddie FNS and Kiddie Rachel's Cook Off won't be far behind.

The ratings are for original programming. She probably didn't have a new show that week.

Giada's show stays in that low spot in the ratings week after week. I had never watched a FN show of her's before this current one and tried watching it twice. I ended up turning the channel before each episode was over because it seemed to fake. Have all her shows been that bad?
