NeenerNeener April 12 Share April 12 I was surprised to see that it dropped so early in the day this time. I like Belinda too. And maybe since she had such an unpleasant relationship with Alan (planet of the Incels. LOL!) maybe she won't be in a hurry to fall desperately in love with The Doctor. Lantern7 April 13 Share April 13 (edited) Good start. I like the idea of the Doctor with a reluctant companion and no direct way to get them home. Yeah, I remember Barbara and Ian. I think Belinda is different because she didn't stumble into things like them. She got kidnapped and made queen of an alien planet thanks to some butthead "buying" a star for her. Aside from American Dad, I don't think that plot device has been used before. Ncuti is still kicking ass as the Doctor. He might be overselling the role as overemotional, but I'm good with it. I miss traditional broadcasts. Isn't the franchise known for its fandom? I mean, in the sense that watching episodes could be a group event. Now, it's whenever I feel like watching the ep . . . assuming I have Disney+. Which I do. But you get my point, right? Hoping for the best for the new season. Also hoping RTD doesn't remind the world how messed up things are in the States. Maybe they'll stick to past stories and we'd get Chris Noth as President Mr. Big? That might be a little better. Eh, I need to go to bed. I don't have the energy to hide a message in every ninth word. ETA: Should the Doctor having a nurse for a companion bother people? Or is it a deal when the novelty for him is having a nurse as the traditional sole companion, as opposed to Rory being added on because of his connection to Amy? I’d hate to think RTD thought too many people got on board in the time after Rory (and Amy) exited the show. Meow Mix April 14 Share April 14 I need to watch again because I didn't get that Alan was a jerk until the reveal near the end. I did get the vibe that she wasn't that into him when he gave her the framed certificate, but she did keep it for all those years. I admit that a planet named Miss Belinda Chandra was good silly fun. I liked the episode overall and it took my mind off other annoying things which is what I want from Doctor Who. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152799-s02e01-bbcd-the-robot-revolution/#findComment-8634369

Oh, I noticed right away all the jerky, misogynist things he said, including that women aren’t good at maths. Hopefully that makes up for me not initially seeing the racism in “Dot and Bubble” until the end, though I kept thinking reactions and comments were odd in various scenes 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152799-s02e01-bbcd-the-robot-revolution/#findComment-8634434

arachne April 14 Share April 14 Not the greatest season opener, but not horrific either. The robots were fun to watch, reminiscient of "classic" era shows. That said, if I wanted to hear a gratuitous shout of "Yasss, queen!" I'd watch Queer Eye. DoctorAtomic April 16 Share April 16 I do like that there's a Companion thrown into everything that has a bit of an attitude. If Belinda is going to be calling the Doctor out, I want to be front and center for that. There wasn't too too much to this episode in terms of setup, but I'm not really going to complain about a lack of exposition considering most shows overwrite anyway. So there's a Time Fracture, and for some reason humans robots live together. I don't need more than that. However, I didn't get why the robots had the machine to hook Alan up to. I think that warranted some exposition. The Doctor was a little capricious for me laughing at Alan being vacuumed up. I thought the nine word glitch was clever though. I don't get why you couldn't go back to May 20th, and then just hang out until the 25th. There's plenty of things to do on the TARDIS in the meantime. Of course, the show. I just would have thought the Doctor might have tried. I don't think we need again a mystery about the Companion, but that's deaf ears at this point. That was a brisk pace, and I liked it. jah1986 April 16 Share April 16 I didn't realize the show was back, nice start. Of course, I hope the doctor isn't going to cry every episode like last season. I wonder if Belinda isn't just a relative of Mundy but is actually Mundy, maybe something to do with the time fracture. I'm not sure how I feel about another time fracture. Loved Belinda calling the doctor out. He is dangerous and people do die. Mrs. Flood (?) is back, when will they tell us who she is? 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152799-s02e01-bbcd-the-robot-revolution/#findComment-8636616
DoctorAtomic April 16 Share April 16 I think when the Doctor came up and ripped Belina away from Alan that the time fracture was sealed. When they were standing at the door of the TARDIS looking out to Earth, she said, "I thought you healed the time fracture?" "I did." The easy explanation then for Mundy is that while they were in their time warp touching the certificates, Belinda's DNA went through the future and that's how we got Mundy. Or Mundy is a Belinda clone. The Doctor said they were a genetic match. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152799-s02e01-bbcd-the-robot-revolution/#findComment-8636785

The TARDIS is bouncing off 25 May, okay, so go back to 24 May and check into a hotel for the night. Problem solved. I do, though, like the idea of a reluctant companion stuck in the TARDIS due to a glitch when they would rather be elsewhere, because they have a life and commitments that actually mean something to them. That's something we haven't really seen since the Classic era, the reboot has been wall-to-wall with adrenaline junkies who were only too happy to drop everything in favour of adventures through time and space and never wanted to leave. Not everyone would react like that, and I prefer variation in my companions. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152799-s02e01-bbcd-the-robot-revolution/#findComment-8638833

Problem solved. Especially because he literally did that in the xmas special. But, I mean, you could have a line where he says 'the entire year of 2025 is blocked out?! Why?!' Or, 'I don't know if I need to spend another year in a hotel. Enough with the blocked toilets.' Something to the point where just hanging out wouldn't be an option. Of course, they show the planet shredded, so the Doctor is going to want to investigate what happened regardless if Belinda was going to be late for work. My first plan would be to find out how far I could actually go back to Earth and start there and work back. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152799-s02e01-bbcd-the-robot-revolution/#findComment-8639157

John Potts April 20 Share April 20 (edited) Was anyone else bothered by how the Doctor was leading a revolution? The Doctor had been there for months and normally he'd just go "Take me to your leader!" Yet the Doctor only seemed to get upset when somebody he knew died, which struck me as out of character. I guess it should have been a clue to the villain's character when he insisted on referring to "Miss Belinda Chandra" ("So you're not married").
