S03.E03: Number 2 with a Bullet

Recommended Posts

Yay, we got to my favorite Reacher trope: when a group of assholes try to act tough, Reacher practically begs them to just walk away, they naturally don't, and he disposes of them with ease.  Richard's high school bullies will rue the day that they didn't listen to his words of wisdom!

So, it turns out that Beck is working for this Gabe character (who might actually be Quinn?), and is mainly doing his bidding.  Gabe was even the one responsible for Richard's initial kidnapping and loss of ear (and Paulie was the one who cut it off.  Yikes!)  It does sound like Beck was already doing some duplicitous things beforehand with customs and whatnot, but it really was just for his rug business, and it was Gabe who made him get involved with whatever else is going on.  Still don't see a happy ending for Beck, but I wonder if this will lead to him at least doing the right thing at the end or having a "noble sacrifice" of some kind.

Reacher seems to be getting set up with two potential love interests, with Duffy eyeing him shirtless (and more) and clearly enjoying what she saw, and this French maid that seems to be developing a bond with him.

The DA's prisoner is clearly going to end up trying something and Eliot/younger agent will suffer for it.

Reacher already getting himself likely promoted by killing Duke and making it look like a shootout gone wrong.  I bet Paulie is going to love that!

Just another example of Toxic Femininity.

With Paulie around to Beck Reacher is just another NFL linebacker sized guy running around. Having run across the late NFL Hall of Famer Kevin Greene in a pick up football game at Fort Knox, shorter crews work better in tanks, that is still an intimidating thing. Meanwhile we get to gaze along with Duffy.

This show is refreshing after some of the others I've seen lately. Heroes can shoot people with guns. Seems like current Hollywood and British thinking is to avoid heroes killing with guns. In Reacher, heroes can beat the crap out of bad guys or kill them in self defense and not go through days of feeling bad for doing so, or needing psychiatric help to get over it. I loved how Reacher slammed that guy's head on the desk and had no problem breaking his leg to fit him under it, and then just moved on. The guy was a piece of junk and deserved it. There's plenty of instances of instant justice. Those kids bullying that rich kid. These bad guys all deserve what happens to them.

reading the books was always a bit cathartic fantasy because Reacher is always in the right, the bad guys always loose and deserve it.

Reacher did take care of Angel in a cleaner way, but he's lucky no one showed up earlier and find the body first.

I wonder if Neagley is going to show up and how she'll do so.

I feel for the young FBI agent.  reading surveyor's maps is hard.
