except, it was established in the first episode that nicole and ted met at a medical conference. even if they met while they were still in medical school, they the youngest they could have been is 23-24. 

and nicole being the sensible sister, she likely wouldn’t have gotten pregnant until she started her residency — so make that 26-27. and as the sensible sister, no way she got knocked up at 18. 

i wonder if the michele val jean is aware of all this discussion re age? is there a future reveal? or just a careless, unforced error? i mean without martin’s and smitty’s late-teen kids, the whole thing goes away.

Right, right, I forgot. This is mildly hilarious because I assume Martin and Smitty's teenagers were adopted late while others are now assuming Martin was adopted late. In my defense, we know for a fact that the twins are adopted and Martin/Brandon actually favors Nicole/Daphne, not that that means anything definitively on a soap opera. It's still early but they really need to clean their timeline continuity up. They're getting full mileage out of the fact that Black people never look their ages right now, lol.

I think Bill targeted Dani to gain entry into the Duprees' world and they've never trusted him but they had to tolerate him because he was Dani's husband and father of her children.  I also think he began "fixing" stuff for the Duprees to gain favor and leverage with them.

We still don't know what it is about Hayley that made Bill leave Dani after 30 years, especially since he had cheated all through the marriage.  What's so special about Hayley?

(I actually like Hayley). 

I suspect Joey is going to call in some favors to Doug like getting somebody hooked on drugs or killing somebody on the operating table.

Ted could have had the affair with Leslie after his brother died. If it was an affair as he said he could have spiraled a bit. The paying her off is the real crazy part. Speaking of crazy Leslie is def that in spades. Even Eva seemed rattled while they were on the phone. I know she may it sound like Ted ditched her for Nicole but her timeline events or the truth of what really happened could be lost on her. She is not stable.

I think I’ve got the reasoning for the Ted/Dana/Leslie/Sherry/Sheila/Alex Forrest affair figured out.  
 

In one of Kat’s bios it said she was Nicole and Ted’s “miracle baby.”  So presumably the couple had fertility problems and/or miscarriages or stillbirth.  That can create a lot of problems for even the stablest of couples.

So Kat actually knows about Chelsea liking threesomes?  And she knows about the couple with whom she's slept?  While she didn't put a label on it, it does sound like Chelsea might be pan.

About time that Tomas resurfaced.  I want to see what happens with him and Kat.

So Ted and Leslie (now Sherry) really were together?  So Eva really is his daughter?  Wow.

I thought that Dani heading Bill off at the pass with her own interview was a girlboss move so epic, I was blown away.  Good to see that Vernon and Anita were impressed, too.

I hope that Bill and Hayley's honeymoon means that they'll be offscreen for a while.

I didn't see all of yesterday, but I did understand that Jacob was likely in the doghouse with Naomi after arresting her mother.  I'm glad that Dani set Naomi straight that he was just doing his job and shouldn't be thrown away over it.

I kind of like the Mona/Jan/Leslie friendship scenes.  They give Leslie somewhat of a redeeming quality, seeing that she does have some people for whom she genuinely cares.

All in all, decent episode.

We saw from today's flashback Jacob knew about the Bill & Hayley affair all along and never told Naomi and she felt a way about that. She probably thought this was more of the same when it came to Jacob arresting her mother.

I wonder how Jacob found out about Bill & Hayley.

according to SON, they’ve cast one of Martin and Smitty’s kids.

Jaden Lucas Miller is seeing his big break in acting. He is set to make his debut in CBS’ new daytime drama, Beyond the Gates, on Wednesday, March 12, as Tyrell Richardson.

I kind of wish they’d slow their roll when it comes to adding new cast members. The show just started and already has a huge cast that we’re still learning about. I’d hate to see it lose momentum because there are too many people to keep track of!

I don't agree about that.  Lots of cast members makes the show feel like a community, with so many characters intertwining with one another.  Just an ensemble doesn't always give that feeling.  So I don't mind the large number.

Nice seeing more of Tomas today. Alex Alegria is in the opening credits and we have not  seen much of him yet. Interested to see where things go with him and Kat.

I appreciate Dani standing up for Jacob and telling Naomi to understand the position he was in.

Feel bad for the spouses of the Duprees. Jacob and Smitty come second to the family.

Naomi, Dani getting arrested was not an injustice. She was waving a gun at people. She didn't even spend the night in jail. 

The show is better without Ashley/Derek and the boring gambling story.

I respect that, but it’s already very much an ensemble show. Of course I can only speak for myself, but I’d really appreciate getting to know the existing characters better before bringing in new people even if they’re tied to existing characters.

Strange that Kat and Martin didn't go to the interview for their  Mom but Chelsea and Naomi went. I know Kat told Chelsea she was missing her Mom's awards ceremony for work but she was still around when the interview happened. I guess they knew it would end up being about Dani and not Nicole lol.

I think the show needs another family rather than the one off characters like the Nurse and Shady Doug.  Right now the Duprees seem to the be sun that everyone seems to be rotating around. The Leslie/Mona/Jan scenes show that there is another possible dynamic.  Middle class people who aren't always on display and who have other concerns and their own story hook.  Yeah Leslie is an adjunct story to the Duprees but at least these scenes round her out a bit and make her less of a one note character.

I imagine the show will expand out that way at some point and build out another full on family.  I think if they had another fully fleshed family with their own drama away from the Duprees, it would feel like some of the pressure could be taken off of the Dupree family and especially Dani to maintain the drama and  would be more of an interesting hook than what they are giving us with Nurse and Doug.

I do see both points about the size of the cast. I'm hoping they settle into a rhythm with their A/B/C etc stories so that they're more grouped together on certain days, and we can get more familiar with all the relationships. Because I really do like that they have supporting folks getting scenes, like Mona/Jan/Leslie and Jacob meeting his new partner, Shaft. It does feel like world building to me. But I am wondering, as much as Leslie been showing up at the hospital, it seems like she forgot that Mona and Ashley both know who she is, and if they catch her there and Nicole sees her and thinks she's Sherry Carter, she gonna have a whole lot of explaining to do. 

Bill is so obsessed with Dani. WHY YOU LOOKING AT PICS OF HER, BILL? HMMM?? 

I don't think Hayley's gonna get that Italian honeymoon. Or, maybe she will, but catches her new husband stalking Dani online.

I'm loving this show but I admit that I hate the revelation about Ted. I wonder why they opted to make cheaters out of both of the Dupree sisters' husband/,ex-,husband back to back? Looks like Eva is going to perform her own little DNA test using the cup that Ted was drinking from. Too bad they didn't run with the twin theory that I saw being bandied about.

Bill’s little Google search (which, btw, nice mockup of the search results from the behind the scenes crew) and look on his face cemented that for me too. Someone last week or so suggested hate sex might be in their future and I could see that coming down the road.

I liked the scene with Chelsea and Kat talking about Chelsea’s “situationship.” I don’t know if this will lead to a deeper storyline but it’s unique (to me) for daytime, and I’m enjoying watching Colby Muhammad (Kat).

Add me to the list thinking that Martin is adopted given the ages.  Every time I see him, I have to remind myself he’s Ted and Nicole’s son and not Ted’s brother.

not just losing momentum, but viewers getting frustrated — even burned out. i know i’ve been feeling overhelmed, not to mention, exhausted  

as i said to a friend: too much happening too quickly to too many characters we’ve only just met.

If I could change one thing about this show, Eva would be in place through her mother's shenanigans, but she would be innocent of the reason, still thinking her father was someone else.  I need a nice underdog to root for.

I'm glad it looks like Eva might baulk before she lets her mother make her do something horrible.

I just noticed Dana/Leslie/Sherry gets wasp-buzzing sounds whenever she's plotting. LOL

This was the happiest I'd seen Doug today . . . until the second half of the episode.

So Derek got a concussion just from saving a cat?  Did I miss something?  The hospital scenes were the most heat I'd felt between him and Ashley.  Though I had no idea that concussions could make people lose memories.

So we meet Tyrell and Samantha, Martin and Smitty's adopted children.  And they totally took Smitty's side in wanting to go back to work.  So Martin, showing some progress, allowed Smitty to take one assignment.

Looks like Eva's getting cold feet now about Nicole.  Sounds like she's realizing that Nicole's a good person who had nothing to do with her and Leslie's suffering.  But Leslie's bound and determined to go forward with this plan of hers. . . .

Uh-oh.  Looks like Vanessa's got a very jealously obsessed side piece.  Diego sent me a major red flag today.  Good for her in putting her foot down with him, but I have no doubt that that's not going to stop him.

Good episode once again.

I still don't like Martin. Him asking the kids what are you going to do if Smitty can't drive you around or go to your debate  match. You could do those things Martin. So glad the children sided with Smitty. Everyone prefers Smitty lol.

Why is Joey so intent on putting Doug in debt? Doug deserves some of the responsibility but still Joey seems to have it in for him. Does this have to with Vanessa? Maybe a connection with Joey or something.

Leslie is so crazy they even had crazy music playing in the background when she was talking. Glad Eva is showing concern for Nicole. She is right Ted is the once who dipped and paid her off not Nicole.

Well, in this episode Vanessa told Doug she sold 3 or 4 multi-million dollar properties and was on track to have a great quarter. I think Vanessa runs her own shop and if that's the case, she wouldn't have to pay a split. Depending on the price of the properties, she stands to make at least $100K in commission (and more along the line of 2-300K if they are multi million dollar properties).

Joey knows Doug is a doctor so he has some nice income and he probably knows Doug's wife is a high dollar real estate agent.  Joey and Doug plan on running Vanessa's pockets dry...then on to the next one for Joey.

I had to laugh because you could see Eva deflate as soon as Leslie started up. 

Going into this, I thought Dani would be my favorite Dupree Sister but it's slowly becoming Nicole. I never watched Passions but I'm enjoying Daphnée Duplaix in this role. So, while I'm looking forward to the drama this scheme is going to cause, there's a part of me that feels bad for Nicole in all of this. 

I'm curious where this Doug storyline is headed. And more on the dynamic between him and Vanessa.

I think I have finally memorized who all of the characters are now. I was quizzing myself the first few weeks lol

Treating Smitty like a child instead of a partner. I'm gonna relish Martin's secret coming out, if only to knock him down a peg or two.

Good on Eva telling Leslie to pump her brakes on the reveal. It's too soon, a slow simmer is much better.

Joey definitely knows that Vanessa has deep pockets via her hefty commissions. But I also think he might put Doug on the hook to write bogus opioid prescriptions. 

Speaking of Vanessa, it looks like Diego is catching feelings. He needs to listen to Naughty By Nature's OPP a few times for some insight.

With Randy in the mix, the confusion continues with all of these caramel-colored guys with neat beards. Whoever compared Andre to Larenz Tate, thanks, that was helpful.

What was paying Leslie off all about? I've seen a million soap storylines of infidelity and most of them did not involve paying your mistress to keep quiet after you choose to end it. Just walk away. Unless Leslie has some nasty, lurid, sex tape of them going at it, then it's just Leslie's word against his. Besides, paying her off clearly didn't work.

I was happy to see that Smitty had people on his side.  I liked their kids. 

And Martin and Smitty actually kissed on the lips today!  And held hands.  And there were implied potential sexy times that Martin rejected.

What I didn't like is that the implied sexy times on the table was to thank Martin for "letting" him take a job.  Like no.  He doesn't need permission.  Good for the kids for calling Martin out for being obsessed with appearances.

👍 to both.  The kids were a breath of fresh air in the Martin/Smitty dynamic, and though we saw only a couple of scenes it looks like BTG has cast two more strong young performers.  Samantha had a couple of great lines, too: “that’s it? That’s not even interesting” and “x has six moms.  His dad is always changing things up.” But Martin granting his husband permission to take one assignment was cringe-y for me.

I’ve not yet reached for the FF, but Ashley/Derek/Andre are getting pretty close to it for me.  All their respective interactions feel like the same scene over and over.

Launching a soap is difficult, which is why I think this should have been 30 minutes instead of an hour soap.

Also, the show is obsessed with showing every second of the Dani/Bill/Hayley story at the expense of other stories.

Dani/Bill/Hayley is the A story, but I'm more interested in the B story (Nicole/Ted/Eva/Leslie)..which has gotten less attention..but has better acting and more intrigue to me.

The Martin story with his nightmares and his tension filled marriage is the C story..but hardly has gotten attention nor proper development..except on the Dani free episodes.

Ashley/Derek/Andre and the Vanessa/Doug stories should be on the simmering stove on the backburner right now since we don't know the characters and their stories aren't read for the main A,B, C story slots yet.

Also, Ashley needs to have more scenes with other characters like Eva, Leslie, Jan, and Mona.  And Derek and Jacob should have some scenes together since the show established they're good friends and the reason why Naomi/Ashley are friends.

Doug works as a dr..but hasn't been shown at work.  He should at least be shown at the hospital in scenes with Ted, Ashley, nurse Shanice, Nicole, etc.

For my part, Derek, Ashley, Vanessa and Doug lift right out, except for however Doug plays into Joey’s plans. But none of them are even remotely interesting to me right now.  Vanessa is supposedly Nicole’s BFF and yet I don’t think we’ve had a single scene of them together.

I just have this feeling that Joey wants to use Doug to gain entry to Fairmont Crest. All those rich folks with bad habits and secrets? It's literally a gangster's paradise lol. Having Doug in his pocket gives him access to other people to add to his pockets. We might also find out he's related to/has relationships with other folks on canvas. He could have children that he wants to get connections for at the club. Regardless of what Joey's motives are, Doug is gonna need some intensive rehab. 

I'm starting to really like Eva too, and I can totally see her starting to connect with Nicole because Nicole is a lovely and warm person and very encouraging. Total opposite of Leslie. And, I had a thought about Eva's true origin......

I remember someone saying Nicole and Ted had fertility issues and that Kat was their 'miracle baby'....well, what if Leslie stole one of their fertilized eggs, and Eva is actually the daughter of BOTH Nicole and Ted??? 👀

I can't stand Martin.  What type of marriage do they have the Smitty needs Martin's permission to have a job.  Damn. And yeah, the sexy times Smitty offered had a whiff of the transactional.  For all that Dani is a loose canon, Martin seems like the real problem child of the Duprees.  Run, Smitty, run!

It feels like Eva is beginning to like working with Nicole and is treating this as a real job that she enjoys.  She is as manipulative as Leslie.  She wants that award ceremony to go off without a hitch because she had a hand in planning it.  I would love to see how Leslie crashes out if Eva begins to really waver on the plan.

I really don't want Ted to be Eva's father because so far, outside of Anita and Vernon, I like Nicole the best and I don't want her marriage to be on a rocky foundation. Is it possible there is more to the story? His dead brother maybe? And he paid her off to protect his bro?  They sure mention Andre's dead parents a lot.  Has Andre ever tried to mack on Eva? If not thre might be a reason.

I wouldn't put it past Leslie/Sherry Carter to have done something to Mona to make her sick so she wouldn't be there. I mean, she already took out Laura via motorcycle, a simple 'food poisoning' or some such would be child's play to her. And yes, I knew she still wanted Teddy Bear. Because she's tryna hurt Nicole, who had nothing to do with what happened. It is almost ALWAYS about wanting the man for themselves. 

I am proud of Eva for turning her momma in. I have a feeling she's gonna be doing a lot more damage control regarding Leslie because it's obvious her hold on sanity is tenuous at best.

Color me surprised that Leslie/DANA/Sherry didn’t somehow edit the video tribute to expose Ted. And doubly surprised (although I should’ve seen it coming) that Eva was the one who got her thrown out. 

so Martin knows about whatever it is he did and still thinks he should run for president because it happened a long time ago and is buried? Damn this guy is naive. Or just plain stupid . Clearly his mother doesn’t know about it since she encouraged him to run. And of course he hasn’t told his husband. But he was oh so quick to tell that guy that Smitty isn’t interested in going back to work. I swear to Dog, I hope Smitty not only divorces him but is the one to blow this secret out of the water.
