Morgan Freeman is the perfect choice for this tribute. His career was eerily similar to Hackman's.

That was the most well-done Oscars In Memoriam I've seen in a long time.  Weird zooming issues aside.

Had Gene Hackman not passed away, I wonder if James Earl Jones was the original choice to close the In Memoriam out, since he was second to last here.  The speech from Field of Dreams would have been a fitting final words.

I think so as they had several clips of him and he was the next most notable/beloved actor on the list

I know the Oscars need to include the other academy members, but I felt like a lot of movie actors were not included, having just watched SAG Awards last week.

For the Oscars that was one of the better In Memoriam but the zoom out and leaving people out as they always do stopped it from being a success.

Interesting that they did the individual tributes to Costuming and Cinematography nominees this year. I guess Karla Sofia Gascon really is the only reason they omitted it for the acting categories.

finally! the zooming may have odd, but i had no trouble identifying who had passed — can’t remember the last time that happened. and no cutting distracting cuts to an overblown vocal performance. 

well done!

and, i am loving having actors introduce nominees from their films.

I wish they had spent more time on two time Oscar winner and legend, Dame Maggie Smith.  
 

I know they can’t include everyone, but they left out some notable actors in favor of people that most have never heard of.  Olivia Hussey (Romeo and Juliet) and Martin Mull (Clue) deserved to be included.

I think so. Unless one of next year's nominees does something similar or worse I think we'll see the format return for the actors.

Took a while but The Brutalist finally gets on the board with cinematography.  Better late than never!

I'm choosing to believe that Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista acted like Gamora and Drax backstage.  And the reason Willem Dafoe got to read the winner was because he snarled at everyone until they agreed to give him the envelope!
