The White House Correspondents’ Association is reversing course and canceling its plans to have comedian Amber Ruffin headline this year’s annual fundraising dinner in Washington, DC.

Instead, the association says it will celebrate the First Amendment and the free press.

“At this consequential moment for journalism, I want to ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues for their outstanding work and providing scholarship and mentorship to the next generation of journalists,” the association’s president, Eugene Daniels, wrote in a memo Saturday.

He said the association’s board voted unanimously to make the change, and did not immediately announce any new speakers.

People have to ignore trump. It is the only way to get to him. Either go on as if he is not in the room or cancel it and go to another party he isn’t invited to attend. I get that they want access, but I’m not sure they will get it anyway.

I saw that earlier.   Any real journalist won't go.  If they go it continues to normalize the Trump administration.

Backi 2015, when he first ran for president, a lot of us thought it was a joke, Then I started seeing him on CNN, being treated like a serious candidate. I will never forgive the media for legitimizing him and acting like he was equal to Clinton, Obama or even the Bushes.

Speaking of groundhogs there was one in my yard earlier.  I throw out produce I'm done with and he or she always comes and eats it.  I also throw out bread and apples and a lot of deer come to eat that.

The veg and apples are fine, but bread is not ideal for animals.  They'll eat it, of course, but it's like candy for them.

I attended a discussion and it was mentioned that right leaning media disseminates a huge amount of disinformation and that left leaning media is more reliable in what they report, but tend to leave out information that does not support their views. I’ve been turning this over in my mind recently. No real thoughts, but I wonder if that could explain why here we are, this unbelievable and unimaginable thing has happened again. some of it has happened because a large number of voters have been validated that they are unhappy with how things are going, and it is explained by immigrants, or that all their money is going to people in other countries or free loaders, or that someone is angry because abortion of adult children. Sometimes I think someone needs to address the misinformation in the room. On Tik Tok, probably, and where people will see it.

Apparently providing browse for deer in winter ideally involves a chainsaw, meaning it involves providing the kind of food they would find themselves, as a supplemental to what they would find themselves. It is a delicate issue. Also, if you have deer you might also have bears around, and no one wants that, particularly. I don’t know where you are, but they are big and scary.

My husband puts out bread for the bird when it snows. And do you know what? They don't eat it, it just attracts icky, horrible rats. I don't know why he does it. We have a suet feeder and they vastly prefer that. Most birds are meat eaters.

There are no bears in the woods around my house. And they don't get a lot of bread.  There are usually four or five of them so each one usually gets just one or two pieces.

Disney and ABC hit with FCC investigation over DEI policies

https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/28/business/dei-disney-abc-fcc-investigation/index.html

The Federal Communications Commission is investigating ABC and parent company Disney over its diversity, equity and inclusion actions, FCC Chair Brendan Carr announced Friday on social media.

In a letter to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Carr wrote that he wants “to ensure that Disney and ABC have not been violating FCC equal employment opportunity regulations by promoting invidious forms of DEI discrimination.”

Seriously, why should a company not directly involved with the government be investigated for (*clutching pearls*) DEI?

We have apparently had bears in the area, but I've never actually seen one. except for one that I think was ahead of us on the trail at a park. It's a long trail, that stretches through counties. It came out of the water, and the trail was drenched. It was almost dark, so I thought it was a massive dog, at first, and we held back because our dog is reactive.

They've had paw prints from bears, in the snow around the trails, in the past. We throw food out for raccoons and possums, all the time. I've never thought about it attracting bears, too.

We saw birds eating meat out of a saucepan that dad left outside. I threw bread out, and they ate that too, but they were loving the meat.

We're experiencing the same thing here in the run up to the election.  Poilievre is doing - or more accurately not doing - stuff they'd be screaming about from the roof tops if the Liberal leader was doing it.

One example, he still refuses to get his security clearance despite having been the leader of the opposition for something like 2-3 years.  If a Liberal leader did that it would be A Very Big Deal.  To the Cons though it's shrugged off as being a non-issue.  The hypocrisy is incredible.

My Maple Maga sister and her friends buy in to every lie and evasion and think anyone pointing out these kinds of things are just stupid liberals who don't really understand "how these things work".  Sigh.

We get squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and the occasional deer. And we're in town. But it's kind of a resort town on the lake so we get animals looking for water.

We're semi-rural, and this was in a town fifteen minutes away. It did come out of a canal.

Don't laugh -- in poor light, a Newfie looks just like a bear.  I think they do it on purpose because, in reality, they're so loveable & cuddly that no one would respect them if they didn't look like big bad bears.

No wonder they're so afraid of pronouns. They're baffled by them to the point that they can't tell what's going on. "OOH, scary pronouns." If it wasn't so terrifying, it would be funny.

This.  It's already happening of course.  A day does not go by without some MAGA supporter whining that they had no idea they'd be the one who lost their job.

If things continue as they are a lot of MAGA supporters will be shocked, just shocked, to learn that they are losing their SS and their Medicare.  Some are so deep in denial maybe they will still rejoice that the billionaires are still billionaires but that won't put food on their table.

The leopards aren't done yet.  Almost everyone's turn will come.  Unless the poster is in the top less than 1%, there is at least one leopard waiting.  There's probably a dozen. My neighbor danced until her daughter was fired.   Another stopped dancing when she had to find money to help her niece come for a vacation so her sister wouldn't run the risk of having the airfare on HER credit card.  Why yes, the "vacation" included a bit of "emergency" medical care. Whether the person posting is so dug in here that they won't admit it is another matter.

Exactly

The association says they will instead celebrate the 1st amendment and the free press

And how will they do that? Will the 1st amendment stand on the podium and give a well vetted speech? It’s a concept or is it like “corporations are people too”

Free speech and the free press is already withering on the vine and you people have yanked it off and are ok with killing and burying it

Go talk to your colleagues at AP or ABC or CBS ( NPR is probably the next victim on the chopping block). But there’s more. DC law firms Columbia University The Smithsonian Institution John Hopkins. He’s already sent out threats to French based companies that do business in the US

Yeah but go ahead and have your celebratory dinner for the 1st amendment if it will make you feel better about yourselves

Apparently firing people costs money. I am not at all surprised about the expense.

And having to hire them back costs even more.  Which has been happening as well.  So essentially these unneeded govt workers that got fired, got rehired, some got fired again, and then got rehired again (sigh) but all were still on the payroll in one way or another but weren't working.  The efficiency is mind boggling.

We are seeing the MAGA mindset at work here in Canada right now with the people we are calling Maple MAGAs.  My MM sister just responded to a post one of our cousins made which listed about 20 times that the leader of the Conservative party has voted against any initiative that would actually help people (things like increasing the old age security, reduced child care costs, subsidized dental care and the like).

Anyway out of that entire list she nitpicked one item which in her opinion was misleading.  It wasn't.  But she couldn't even begin to argue with any of the other things.  This is someone marching towards her own senior years in the very near future, without a company pension or benefits to  fall back on BTW, and she is so blinded by her hatred for "the libs" that she can't see that she's only going to hurt herself.  Or maybe she does see it but she doesn't even care.
