Do we really want to devolve into this?

I don't think we have a choice. We need sucker punches. We need steel chairs to the backs of heads. Professional wrestling has a LOT to answer for (especially Vince McMahon), but the crap that goes on there might have to play out in Washington. Minimum, I want the Democratic Party response to start with the speaker burying her face in her hands, muttering "Jesus fucking Christ" under her breath.

By the way . . . that loony lady the GOP brought out to respond to Biden's SOTU last year . . . is she still in office?

Joe Biden is a way better man than I could ever be. If I was told that MTG had come to MY State of the Union in full MAGA regalia, I would've had her intercepted and barred from the Capitol. If Democrats attending the SOTU bring in people that have been directly hurt by the current administration, the odds are good that they'll never make it into the chamber. That's how little I think of Trump and his cartel.

My parents were of the Silent Generation and living through the Depression and WWII affected them but not unlike the baby boomer  those born in 1928 had a different childhood to those born in 1945!

If we want to break it down to war - 1928ers were in Korea, 1945ers went to Vietnam.  I may be wrong but I think Gen X may be the first generation that didn't see many of their cohorts drafted and sent off to fight.

In other Trump news today he forced the head of the NY office of the FBI into retirement after he questioned Trump’s pursuit of FBI agents investigating Jan 6 cases

And USAID’s acting assistant administrator for global health has been put on leave for trying to do his job and documenting what is happening -- he wrote a memo stating that, despite a promise of waivers by Marco Rubio, the administration has failed to protect programs that deliver lifesaving assistance, which will "no doubt result in preventable death, destabilization, and threats to national security on a massive scale.” CBS News

On the flip side, one of the crytpo bros with a civil fraud case pending against him by the SEC had that case halted after he bought $75 million of World Liberty Tokens (75% of the revenue goes to the Trump family).  CNN

On Musk's social media platform, X, a person responded to the sketch, stating, "I can’t imagine the kind of person who finds this funny.”

"Humor fails when it lies," Musk fired back in a reply.

So sexy. So pithy. So wise. I long to give him his 15th child. Where should I drop off my eggs?

Eggs from you, or the eggs you have to buy?

I’m tired of the SNL bits, only because I can’t get pleasure from these villains being mocked, even when ex-cast members return from the cornfield to do the job.

LOL! He's just so friggin' repugnant and damaged the idea that any woman willingly procreates with him baffles me. And that goes double for Vance and Trump.

I was thinking is there a billionaire that women or men would want to be with if not for their money?  Musk? Nope.  Bezos? Nope.  Zuckerberg? Nope.

I love how guys like Musk and Trump love to dish it out but can't seem to take it when people mock them in turn. I thought they hated "sensitive snowflakes".

Agreed. We hear all the time that the Democrats are too timid and too polite, so now's the time to show they can take the gloves off and fight back. When you've got poeple out there doing Nazi salutes and siding with dictators, the time to be polite is over.

Like I've said, it's so frustrating 'cause it feels like the Democrats can't seem to win either way with some people out there (speaking in general). If they don't fight back, they're seen as weak, if they do, they're being too pushy and rude and going too far.

Meanwhile the GOP can just trample around like a bull in a china shop and that's fine, that's just the GOP for ya, that's how they are. They get celebrated for it and get careers out of it.

But yeah, at this point, I'm done playing nice. We need to fight back and we need to fight back hard. And we need to do it in a way that gets the public at large on our side.

Oh yeah, she was in the news a couple of weeks ago. Seems she's "concerned" that those Musk/Trump cuts to NIH Grants might just affect the University of Alabama.

This is what I’m thinking too which is why RFK Jr. is pretty much in an impossible position. He’s too out there for the status quo but he’s not wacky enough for the anti vax community.

Au contraire. RFK Jr.'s Media guy is Del Bigtree, a big name in the antivax community for several years... he has a podcast called High Wire, spouting such lies and misinformation that he was kicked off of other platforms. Unfortunately, he is fundded by  a a billionnaire whose name i forget.  Bigtree touts his minimal  experience as a producer on the Dr Phil show,  so nuff said.  Other than that, pre anti vax, Bigtree was just a two bit unemployed actor, playwright, in NY.

RJK Jr.  is definitely wacky enough for that crowd who do not care about the truth.

The Ukrainian president has dressed for battle in solidarity with his troops since Russia’s 2022 invasion but Trump questioned his attire even before rebuking him about gratitude.

On Sunday, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry posted a series of photos on Instagram, labeled “UKRAINIANS HAVE THEIR SUITS.”

“Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians changed their smart office attire for military uniforms to protect their homes and families. For others, daily outfits became a symbol of a lifetime mission, sacrifice and saving lives,” the post read. “Amid war, Ukrainian suits may look different, but they are all worn with the ultimate dignity.”

The photos showed Ukrainian troops in full gear, a doctor in scrubs covered in blood after a hospital bombing, a fighter pilot, rescue workers carrying a civilian out of a bombed apartment, a combat medic with a first aid kit, firefighters and energy workers at a plant that had just been bombed by Russia. The last photo shows a man and a woman in Ukrainian-designed clothes at a fashion show. The man, a double amputee with two prosthetic legs, holds hands with a woman whose outfit shows off her prosthetic leg as well.

Many thousands of Ukrainians have lost limbs in the war.

Melaniya Podolyak, whose partner, fighter pilot Andrii “Juice” Pilshchikov, was killed in 2023 in a Soviet-era MiG-29 while waiting for the United States to send F-16 jets, posted a photo of a woman holding a sign that reads: “Will Russia stop killing Ukrainians if we all wear suits?"

Ukrainian comedian Anton Tymoshenko posted a photo of Vice President JD Vance, his pants hiked halfway up his calves at the recent CPAC conference, with the caption: “And these guys are talking about suits.”

I have also defended Pelosi and I do think she accomplished a lot but yeah it's time for her to go.  Fresh blood is essential for the Democratic party to not only survive but thrive.

There is local chatter that she will be stepping down at the end of her current term. AOC’s former chief of staff announced in Feb that he’s challenging Pelosi for the seat.

Trump halted military aid to Ukraine and is (apparently) considering lifting sanctions on Russia. Way to go, Krasnov.

The stock market, also, had it's worse one-day slide since the March 2020 Covid days. [The little chyron box on FOX news literally showed the market sinking in real-time as Trump talked about the tariffs on Mexico/China...]

Radical action is needed. It will probably never happen, though.

Here's Jon Stewart going over Friday's fiasco. I finally got to see right wing media's reaction . . . and they did not flinch in painting Zelenskyy as the villain. Also, way too many attempts to draw a parallel to Jon Cena's "heel-turn." First of all, when is wrestling newsworthy? Secondly, we all know Trump is the bad guy. Cena has done more "Make a Wish" requests than anyone. Trump would only do that if a dying child's greatest wish was to set a homeless man on fire.

When MTG and Bobert shouted at President Biden during the State of the Union address in March 2022 they should have been removed from the chamber

They weren’t so their behavior was acceptable to the republicans and the republican viewing audience

Basically the gloves came off. The democrats should not sit idly by tonight. They should boo. Maybe turn their backs to him

He does not deserve the respect that we normally give to the POTUS

This isn't a surprise.  It's what dictators do. How long before we start seeing dissenters "fall" out of windows?

I posted upthread a while back that the silence had more to it than being primaried.  Then I heard a democratic lawmaker hint that his republican friends were saying something like this behind closed doors - as in intimidation, threats, etc.  And now we have this headline.  I wish all of them being threatened would stand up with a sign tonight.  It would be harder to accomplish when it is all out in the open.  Of course there are risks to that too.
