They are flooding the zone. They are trying to do everything all at once thinking at least some of it will take hold. More federal judged are issuing orders to stop.

And as I have said before it always comes down to money. One thing that infuriates/worries me? Congress (Republicans) ) are getting calls from their constituents -- even Republican voters -- that Trump/Musk have gone too far and must be stopped. Especially Musk. But probably 99% of them are too afraid to speak out. Okay then.

You are afraid or have been threatened. The best thing you can do for your country (and I would like to think that most of you actually care about your country) is to resign, step down and let the Governor appoint a temporary replacement. Yes, of course I know that the replacement could probably be as bad/worse as whoever was there. But what on earth are we to do? I have to include Fetterman. Can voters recall their Senator?

I think banks might have something to say about that. They make too much money off of us. They are going to give up all that to let Musk have it all? I doubt it.

I think Musk is having a mental health crisis. He believes he is king of the world. Having multiple billions of dollars does something to you and it's not good. This is like a game to him. You see those movies where super rich men send people out into the jungles and they hunt them like animals. That is Musk's mentality.

I urge everyone to take some deep breaths, say a few [hundred] prayers/affirmations and do one's best to keep calm instead of throwing up one's hands and believing the worst case scenario is happening/has happened.

Unbridled panic and paranoia just plays into manipulators' hands!

I'm not pretending that there's not reason to be concerned (and one should keep close tabs on one's holdings regardless) but we need to focus on what we know actually has transpired so we can deal with and help others to deal with it rather than presume the worst!

I say all the above due to having been a natural worry-wort for a good part of my life but having clear,sober heads is VITAL in times like these when we may be on our own having to deal with setbacks,etc.

I have nothing against white South Africans in general but I have issue with Trump wanting them to immigrate to the US at the same time he’s deporting thousands of minorities. I’m a white American who’s always been anti Trump as is the rest of my immediate family so I appreciate that people understand that not all of us support him, though I do have to say that I’m suspicious of every white person I see until they prove themselves to be anti Trump and I live in a blue state so I know at least half of them are probably anti Trump but I trust no one, so many of my mom’s friends in NJ like him.

I live in a very red state so when I meet someone who is anti Trump it's like encountering a unicorn. But what really pisses me off is when people think I'm a Trump supporter simply because I'm white. I don't get confrontational but I let them know I most certainly am not.

I know! It's not unlike when someone tells me a racist 'joke' then gets upset when I don't 'get' it and coolly let them know that just because I share their pigmentation doesn't mean I automatically share their views about those with differing pigmentation.

Someone I know had shared how they encountered a guy wearing a hooded sweatshirt that said "save women sports." I don't think it's sexist to say that men sometimes/often have an advantage over women when it comes to a variety of sports.

Regarding high school sports, I think it's important for there to be separate categories for men and women because of the scholarship opportunities that are offered. I wouldn't want to see sports become unisex because I think this would lead to fewer opportunities for women.

As for trans athletes, I haven't seen any evidence that allowing trans athletes to compete will necessarily lead to unfairness for female athletes.

Regarding the Olympics, I don't understand why there's resistance to having a trans division. I actually think it would go a long way to bringing positive exposure for trans athletes and the trans community in general. There would be more medal opportunities, and it would give the world a chance to get to know and root for various trans athletes. There would also be the added benefit of not having transphobic people attempting to tarnish an athlete's win with accusations of unfairness.

This is a very complicated issue for sure and I don't know if there's a one size fits all, blanket answer for it. I do know that here in CT one young cisgender woman runner has alleged that she always won when matched against cisgender women but that all stopped for good when trans athletes were allowed to compete. After that, no cisgender women won. I don't want to see trans people prohibited from competing in their chosen identity but I'm still struggling with stuff like the above. The evidence right now seems to be inconsistent as to whether trans women have any real advantage over cisgender women, so I'm keeping an open mind for now.

You took my comment out of context. I was talking about how Trump has a grudge against Democrats stemming from his rejection in NYC by builders and real estate people he identified as being from some "Democratic elite" that "snubbed" him decades ago. They had good reason to snub him based on his dishonest and unethical business practices. It wasn't motivated by some kind of unfair prejudice against him. But he never let that grudge go and continued to try to stick it to Democrats in his first term as president, first with nasty insults and then in action. So is it any wonder that they would turn around and do those things to him? He brought it on himself. My mother used to recount an old Sicilian expression that translated meant "He who spits in the sky gets it back in his face". I usually hate that kind of "tit for tat" retaliatory stuff but in this case I really can't blame them.

Interestingly any tax cuts Republicans make have a way of coming back in the form of running up the deficit. Under Trump's first term, on a yearly basis he ran up the deficit more than any other president in US history by quite a bit. - $2 trillion per year in office vs. $1.6 trillion for Biden and $1.2 trillion for Obama. So much for cutting spending!

And any tax cuts they make benefit the rich far more than the middle and lower classes who still end up paying a disproportionate share of taxes. I don't get how middle and lower class Republicans don't see this. They are big on tax cuts but their party doesn't cut taxes in a way that in the end benefits them.

I remember when Reagan was president he made a big deal about tax cuts. I was in grad. school at the time taking advantage of the tuition remission I got for being employed at the university. I didn't make that much money at the time and was struggling financially as it was. I got free tuition for my first year but then Reagan suddenly instituted a special new tax on tuition remission, but only for people who were getting it for grad. school. It was a hefty tax - fully 30% of the entire tuition bill. It CRUSHED me financially. I had to drop out for a semester to get a second job to afford it. I had to work in a freaking GAS STATION mini mart part time after my full time job and on weekends to avoid dropping out. Fortunately that tax was repealed after a year and I was able to finish my degree program without it. So don't get me started on Republicans and taxes!

Canada isn’t innocent from forced deportation either. There’s a Heritage Minute about forced Acadian deportation (by the British) in the 1750s. Many eventually ended up in what’s now Louisiana.

I asked another poster here about where they got their news from because there have been times when I've read comments that makes it feel like we're living in different realities. The people in this article, though, are fully aware of Trump's recent statements and some are still contorting themselves to give him the benefit of the doubt and justify their vote. It's discouraging to say the least.

It's still not acceptable. The problem is the people who do find it acceptable are the ones controlling the levers of power.

I suppose it's no coincidence and it's not lost on everyone here that Musk is a South African and suddenly Trump is trying to make it easier for white racists to come to this country. I wonder who gave him that idea?
