Congress (Republicans) ) are getting calls from their constituents -- even Republican voters -- that Trump/Musk have gone too far and must be stopped. Especially Musk. But probably 99% of them are too afraid to speak out. Okay then. You are afraid or have been threatened. The best thing you can do for your country (and I would like to think that most of you actually care about your country) is to resign, step down and let the Governor appoint a temporary replacement. Yeah No February 9 Share February 9 (edited) On 2/7/2025 at 2:05 PM, Eri said: Homophobia/transphobia in itself is a hatred of the feminine. Someone I know had shared how they encountered a guy wearing a hooded sweatshirt that said "save women sports." What real motivation is there for such behavior unless it might have to do with being a perverted adult who feels like they can't enjoy watching volleyball if the woman was trans? Florida (thanks to DeSantis) is especially bad about this over the last few years. One of the most controversial proposals last year, was when the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) was weighing on mandating the tracking of menstrual cycles for female athletes in order to compete in competitive sports. This was naturally met with massive pushback by parents and they rejected the proposal. I always thought it was puzzling (and weird) that conservatives focus so much on high school sports, but when you consider the perverted predator theory, it starts to make more sense. It seems they project onto trans people their own predatory behavior because they just think "well I'm a predator toward women and girls, so I guess trans people as a whole are the same." Considering the background of some of these individuals (*cough*Gaetz*cough*), I can't say I'm particularly surprised. I find it ironic that we have misogynists taking up a crusade to keep sports "fair" for cisgender women. The same ones that oppose abortion. Yeah, something else is motivating them and I'm SURE it's not caring about women. On 2/7/2025 at 5:31 PM, ebk57 said: This hits very, very close to home... Since when has anyone referred to any American president as "coming into power"? It's scary. On 2/7/2025 at 5:49 PM, Dimity said: No one is arguing that women should feel comfortable having men in their bathroom or changing room, what people are pointing out is simply how would you know? Are bearded ladies making the news as they go into the ladies room? No. And any man who gets his jollies dressing as a woman so he can listen to women pee or passes as a woman to get into their changing room because he wants to assault a woman isn't going to be deterred by Trump announcing there are officially two genders. Men are coming into women's fitting rooms now with their daughters, girlfriends and wives. Getting into the stall with them as they undress. I have heard some suspicious sounds coming from them at times and it has weirded and creeped me out. I don't care if they come in but I draw the line at that kind of stuff. On 2/7/2025 at 8:43 PM, Avaleigh said: Agreed that men aren't necessarily going to beat women in every sport or in every match up. It depends on a variety of factors. There are records in skiing, gymnastics, and in swimming, just to name a few examples, where women have outperformed men. That being said, at the end of the day, there's a reason why men and women compete separately in sports. It gives more opportunities for women to succeed, and this is, of course, important for women and girls for a variety of reasons. If you look at something like the LA or NYC Marathons, there has yet to be a woman who has beaten the men's record. Even when it comes to something like the "gender challenge" in the marathon, the women are given a head start in order to make it fair. For sports like the long jump or the high jump, the world records have been set by men. In figure skating, there are dozens of men who can do quadruple jumps. It's become common for men to perform multiple quads in a program. There's even a man who is consistently doing a quad axel. Meanwhile, it's still relatively uncommon to see a woman do a triple axel. Currently, there are only three women this season who can do it and only one who's nailing it consistently. (I'm excluding the Russians who aren't competing this season. Also, the Russians may or may not be guilty of using PEDs. Kamila Valieva is likely just one example.) I don't think it's sexist to say that men sometimes/often have an advantage over women when it comes to a variety of sports. Regarding high school sports, I think it's important for there to be separate categories for men and women because of the scholarship opportunities that are offered. I wouldn't want to see sports become unisex because I think this would lead to fewer opportunities for women. As for trans athletes, I haven't seen any evidence that allowing trans athletes to compete will necessarily lead to unfairness for female athletes. Regarding the Olympics, I don't understand why there's resistance to having a trans division. I actually think it would go a long way to bringing positive exposure for trans athletes and the trans community in general. There would be more medal opportunities, and it would give the world a chance to get to know and root for various trans athletes. There would also be the added benefit of not having transphobic people attempting to tarnish an athlete's win with accusations of unfairness. This is a very complicated issue for sure and I don't know if there's a one size fits all, blanket answer for it. I do know that here in CT one young cisgender woman runner has alleged that she always won when matched against cisgender women but that all stopped for good when trans athletes were allowed to compete. After that, no cisgender women won. I don't want to see trans people prohibited from competing in their chosen identity but I'm still struggling with stuff like the above. The evidence right now seems to be inconsistent as to whether trans women have any real advantage over cisgender women, so I'm keeping an open mind for now. 21 hours ago, Salacious Kitty said: My God. Iive in one of the most sexually open areas of the country (SF Bay Area,). I have NEVER been afraid in a public restroom, and yes, I've shared them with trans women and drag queens. It's just ridiculous fear mongering. LOL, yeah, not everyone grew up going to Greenwich Village every weekend 40/50 years ago like I did. I have news for these scared people, they have been going to your rest room forever without you knowing it, so just get over it! They went after him with a vengeance, including multiple impeachments, lawsuits, trials, etc. If he hadn't announced early that he was going to run for a 2nd term, half of that shit would never have come to fruition. I mean seriously...because he put Stormy's fee in the wrong column? You took my comment out of context. I was talking about how Trump has a grudge against Democrats stemming from his rejection in NYC by builders and real estate people he identified as being from some "Democratic elite" that "snubbed" him decades ago. They had good reason to snub him based on his dishonest and unethical business practices. It wasn't motivated by some kind of unfair prejudice against him. But he never let that grudge go and continued to try to stick it to Democrats in his first term as president, first with nasty insults and then in action. So is it any wonder that they would turn around and do those things to him? He brought it on himself. My mother used to recount an old Sicilian expression that translated meant "He who spits in the sky gets it back in his face". I usually hate that kind of "tit for tat" retaliatory stuff but in this case I really can't blame them. 20 hours ago, Soapy Goddess said: Agree to disagree. They're spending was out of control. Billions of dollars wasted on ridiculous programs...all sparking rumors of kickbacks. I mean come on...did we really need to fund Iraqi Sesame Street? Interestingly any tax cuts Republicans make have a way of coming back in the form of running up the deficit. Under Trump's first term, on a yearly basis he ran up the deficit more than any other president in US history by quite a bit. - $2 trillion per year in office vs. $1.6 trillion for Biden and $1.2 trillion for Obama. So much for cutting spending! And any tax cuts they make benefit the rich far more than the middle and lower classes who still end up paying a disproportionate share of taxes. I don't get how middle and lower class Republicans don't see this. They are big on tax cuts but their party doesn't cut taxes in a way that in the end benefits them. I remember when Reagan was president he made a big deal about tax cuts. I was in grad. school at the time taking advantage of the tuition remission I got for being employed at the university. I didn't make that much money at the time and was struggling financially as it was. I got free tuition for my first year but then Reagan suddenly instituted a special new tax on tuition remission, but only for people who were getting it for grad. school. It was a hefty tax - fully 30% of the entire tuition bill. It CRUSHED me financially. I had to drop out for a semester to get a second job to afford it. I had to work in a freaking GAS STATION mini mart part time after my full time job and on weekends to avoid dropping out. Fortunately that tax was repealed after a year and I was able to finish my degree program without it. So don't get me started on Republicans and taxes! 17 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/142/#findComment-8576115

PRgal February 9 Share February 9 Canada isn’t innocent from forced deportation either. There’s a Heritage Minute about forced Acadian deportation (by the British) in the 1750s. Many eventually ended up in what’s now Louisiana. 2 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/142/#findComment-8576173
krankydoodle February 9 Share February 9 Trump's Gaza proposal frustrates his new Arab American supporters (Washington Post gift link) I asked another poster here about where they got their news from because there have been times when I've read comments that makes it feel like we're living in different realities. The people in this article, though, are fully aware of Trump's recent statements and some are still contorting themselves to give him the benefit of the doubt and justify their vote. It's discouraging to say the least. 2 1 4 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/142/#findComment-8576192

I’m a white American who’s always been anti Trump as is the rest of my immediate family so I appreciate that people understand that not all of us support him, though I do have to say that I’m suspicious of every white person I see until they prove themselves to be anti Trump and I live in a blue state so I know at least half of them are probably anti Trump but I trust no one, so many of my mom’s friends in NJ like him. I suppose it's no coincidence and it's not lost on everyone here that Musk is a South African and suddenly Trump is trying to make it easier for white racists to come to this country. I wonder who gave him that idea? 11 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/142/#findComment-8576233
