I wonder if the Christie interview was taped from the last time he was supposed to appear.  Probably not since anything they discussed would be old news by now.

Looking forward to Tim and Billy.

Whoopi is a master of making invalid comparisons. She says that "people" are ok with telling her what to do with her body, so they should be ok with gun regulation. It is a jump to assume that these are the same "people" - there is probably some overlap, but this is an overgeneralization, even without going into details of what the regulation would entail.

Walz seems like a personable guy, but his response about Elon Musk's plan to give a million dollars to people who sign a petition was off track. Musk doesn't have to have plans for climate control, etc. He's not the candidate. He's just trying to get petitions signed. The prize money does seem problematic, though, and I think that is what Walz should have focused on. Also, as Ana pointed out, there doesn't seem to be any guarantee or requirement that anyone signing this petition will actually go on to vote for Trump (which I think is the overall intention).

I love Tim. He’s so dang ~normal~.  Love that he doesn’t talk down to people but states the facts like of course we know that.

Whoopi had a good point, about reading the small print when signing the petition.   I have a hard time not believing names and contact information collected will not be used for something....

I'm sure they go on a mailing list asking for contributions and support. That's what usually happens, I think.

First it was Whoopi who was sick/had a cold a few weeks ago. Now Sara. She sounded congested and as if she's about to head full steam into laryngitis. Or was she at some concert screaming her head off?

So do I. No Lie, I had a big ole smile on my face.

I really hate these gotcha questions or questions that the administration can't do anything about. Gas stations and grocery chains aren't nationalized-so they can't control the price gouging that is going on, ALYSSA!

Unless I missed the news bulletin that they had?

leaving the politics aside....it was simply inappropriate and childish for Whoopi (the moderator) to attempt to interrupt Alyssa multiple times when she mentioned the ABC Poll....

Just because you do not like polling, does not mean you should be disrespectful to your co-host like that. Take it up with Brian or Alyssa in the morning (though I do not think Whoopi always attends the morning meeting). Even if you agree with Whoopi's frustration of the question, she would go ballistic if Alyssa did that to her.

Whoopi also let out an audible groan as soon as Alyssa started to ask the question. It was really rude and unprofessional. Shutting down her co-hosts and steamrolling the discussion is of course nothing new for Whoopi, but I felt especially bad for Alyssa given what a high profile interview this was today.

I was pretty shocked at it tbh. You may dislike Alyssa but she is never disrespectful like Elizabeth or Meghan were. Glad Alyssa ignored her and kept going.

I feel like that was less about Alyssa and more about Whoopi's absurd hatred of polls.  If one of the other co-hosts had asked the question, she probably would have responded the same way.

Only registered voters in Pennsylvania are eligible to win this strange lottery. Today (Oct. 21) is the deadline for new registrations in Pennsylvania. The scheme was only announced on Saturday, and the deadline to register is today, so it's doubtful many new people were able register. It's more likely that Musk is collecting names and contact info for voter influence and/or a get-out-the vote drive.

The petition is in support of freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. I doubt the petition itself will be submitted to any entity. The prize drawing makes this a lottery to identify voters who support Musk and/or Trump but may not show up on donor lists or other campaign files.

It's not legal to pay someone to register to vote. Is it legal to make voter eligibility a requirement for this lottery? Skating on the edge of legality is a specialty of Trump.

[Edit - just heard Musk has opened the lottery to one registered voter in any of the seven swing states, daily.]

Whoopi is a bit rabid with her hatred of polls. I agree that too many times poll results are given without any context, so they appear to represent a wide number of opinions, but they don't represent the opinions of everyone, or even everyone of a particular demographic. Maybe the View people should report poll results with some kind of disclaimer, to at least keep her from ranting about them every time.

Or at least do enough research to be able to state the sample size and the question asked.  A lot of times the polls they cite have only asked 400 or so people and often the question is worded in a way to get the response the pollsters want.  I saw a news segment the other day about polling.  The reporter was talking to employees who do the phoning and they said these days it's hard to get people to answer the phone to participate.  So maybe the respondents skew older?  Younger people aren't going to take the time to answer their phones.  Working people don't have time.  So they end up with a lot of retirees?

No, I don't believe landlines are their go-to anymore.  They text a lot these days. I've received texts addressed to me specifically through my cellphone.  You either answer the text or move on with your day.

Billy Crystal is such a National Treasure!

I loved his story about the scenes in Analyze This with DeNiro AND the one about Princess Diana when watching When Harry Met Sally’s diner scene!😂😂😂

But the memories about Comic Relief, Robin Williams, and those pictures had me all misty. I could see both Billy and Whoopi tearing up. They really were the BESTEST friends.

I can picture Diana having that kind of laugh. 😂😂😂😂

Ugh, every time they talk about poor Robin I get so sad. He should be here, dammit!

The clip of the woman they showed that whined about the candidates being mean to each other infuriated me. She doesn’t know the names Kamala is talking about?  Well, get your head out of your ass and pay attention!  Idiot. People that clueless shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Yulia Navalnaya is a very brave woman.

Yay, a day without Alyssa and her hyper-speak attempts to curb all discussion, how refreshing! Reminds me that season 25 had been the best season, when it was just these four and Ana. I suppose, depending what happens next month, Alyssa's 5 minutes will diminish much like MM's did following 2020 and they'll be on to the next one. Or Ana may be able to be more like she was in 2015 and that will fill the quota.

Speaking of Ana, loved her on Monday during the McDonald's topic--"Would you like lies with that?" And good for Whoopi pointing out how illogical it is the way there is more concern over protecting the rights of objects like guns than for human beings and their bodies.

The NY Liberty parade is on in my area, pre-empting The View. I can't remember the last time I watched TV in this time slot and time, grinning ear to ear.

They did the same on WABC NY.  When they're pre-empted on their regular channel they usually broadcast from one of their subsidiary channels.  I was able to "view" The View on their LOCLish channel during their regular timeslot.

I've just about had enough of Joy & her not letting anyone say anything without her chipping in with what she thinks are funny quips, they're not, this is serious stuff & she just wants to turn everything into a stand-up routine, no wonder nobody listens. Sarah was trying to make a point about Kamala Harris and all I could hear was Joy trying to make funnies & then Sunny telling her she was wrong over & over, just STFU & let her say her piece, I'm sure there are millions who feel the same as she does (rightly or wrongly) so give her a chance to speak FFS.

And the piece where that woman said she didn't want to hear the candidates being mean to each other or whatever she said & the first thing we get from the women (not sure who as I was so angry with Joy by then) is "well Trump started it", how fucking old are they? 5? Act like damn adults.

Right? The point the woman was making, as I understand it, was that the focus on the name calling and insulting comments between the candidates makes it hard to hear their actual plans and policies which voters should want to hear about when choosing who to vote for. My impression is that she doesn't see this choice as obvious as the panel thinks it should be because there are pros and cons to both candidates but the name calling obscures the meaningful differences. The panel acts as though everyone should automatically agree with their choices.

I have read articles online almost every day that Trump's team wants him to speak more about economy, border, etc., but he insists on playing to his maga base wth the name calling, insults, same old shit.

Why is it the  hosts aren't as well informed or well read?

Or can substantiate polls wth background info on who,  how many,  what part of country, etc., the responses were polled?

Or just stop repeating news stories from a few days ago? Talk up the good economy more often or how it isn't gov run. Educate people. Talk up the Repub supporters of Kamala. I'm fed up with Trump's demented craziness.

I kind of agree that I'm tired of the jokes from any tv person not just Joy. I am worried about this election and the aftermath.

I think comedy is the only antidote to the darkness being purposefully forced on the public these days. There are those who want people to feel hopeless, ground down, and exhausted by the cruelty on display. I believe that's what Joy mentioned earlier this week as to why Trump targets comedians; if you can take away people's sense of joy, you have much more power over them. Walz was right when he talked about the purpose of being a "joyful warrior" in the midst of all that's happening.

WABC is my market.

I don't have cable and instead use digital antennas.  On my OTA channel WABC is 7-1 and LOCLish is next up at 7-2.  It's not 100% but more times than not they will broadcast The View if there is going to be a full pre-emption like today.  Try it next time.  You may not be grinning ear to ear, but odds are you will be annoyed.  So, there's that.

That woman had unreasonable expectations of what the government can do for her and therefore her comments blaming Kamala for her problems came off as whiny and totally realistic and definitely not a Kamala supporter.

And she obviously hasn't been listening to the speeches and rallies and townhalls for the last three months. Kamila hasn't been 'namecalling'. She's been quoting various Republican officials who have facts on their side and proof that Trump is losing it and IS a fascist and definitely isn't capable of being the US president. Trump is the "namecaller". It's absolutely disgusting what he's been calling Kamela at his rallies and events. The insults he's throwing at her are vile and ugly and racist and misogynistic and that woman perched on the stage and called their behaviour equal when it absolutely isn't. She's a Trumper through and through.

Can they address the fact that Fox isn’t covering the crazy stuff?  Their viewers aren’t hearing things the rest of us are.

Christie is still an ass. Why didn’t the panel ask him how to get the message to undecided voters who still say they don’t know Kamala?  What more does she have to do that she hasn’t been doing for months?  Give each one a meet and greet?  Clearly they haven’t been listening.

Bipartisan government and compromise?  Does he really think McConnell or Johnson will have any interest in doing that if either leads a house of Congress?  Yeah, good luck with that. Biden couldn’t do it and he was friends with these people.

Christie said what the panel just doesn't want to hear: many undecided voters aren't choosing between Trump and Harris; it is whether to vote for Harris or nobody. They already know Trump and while many people don't want him again, they still aren't confident that Harris will be a better choice - kind of the devil you know vs. the devil you don't.

Best line so far: "Open your ears".

What do these "undecided voters" think is going to happen?  That eleven days before the election someone new is going to appear? I'm sorry, I am so done with hearing that.

I think they want to hear something from Harris that will convince them to vote for her. Whatever it is, she hasn't produced it yet, I guess. That's why Christie was saying that she has to keep working on it right up to the election, to "close" those who are undecided. If they can't bring themselves to vote for Harris, some people won't vote for the office at all, or might write in someone they would prefer, which could hand Trump the election. (Of course, some people will vote "not Trump" aka Harris, but it isn't a given that every undecided person will do that, and if Harris says or does something really dumb or off-putting between now and Election Day, they might decide to go for the devil they know, after all.)

Well, they may never hear the magic words.  I respect Republicans who do not agree with everything she says or believes, but they are generally horrified by the thought of him getting back into office and will vote for her.

Honestly, I have come to realize that the things he says and does, what his plans are, which he makes no secret of, for some people those things just don't bother them. They agree with him.  It takes all kinds.
