I wish I could give all my votes tonight to hair and makeup.  I LOVE the disco era hairstyles.

As a matter of fact, back in the day I might have gone to high school with Stephen Nedroroscik.

I feel the beginning bit for Phaedra's dance kinda threw off their rhythm a bit.

"Lady Marmalade" is an odd choice of song for a foxtrot, but it was good.

I liked the whole opening sequence when they were introducing all the contestants, hosts, and judges.

Stephen looks like '80s era Weird Al with that getup :p. I like him, too, though I do agree that he can get a little ahead of himself. But I also get where that takes a bit of getting used to for him, given he's so used to how things are done with gymnastics. Luckily I think Rylee will figure out how to make that work for him.

Good or not so good, I just find myself smiling at him. Timing is a problem

It's hard not to like him. :)

Ilona looked great; her other costumes really showed off her muscular shoulders but this dress seemed to balance out her proportions a bit more.

Oh, jeez, Gleb dancing a rumba to Sexual Healing? I'm already feeling mildly uncomfortable.

Joey and Jenna

He is extremely good, definitely  a contender. So fast, the backflip was great. Well done Jenna

That's a 9 from me

That was so much fun! I do not know him at all but I like him.

He is one of very, very few who was loved as a contestant a then even more loved as a lead in the Bachelor/ette franchise.   Most, by the end, lose their lustre.  He is the real deal.

Glad to hear that; I'm not a Bachelor watcher.

I'm cracking up at Dwight's hair.

Reginald  and Emma dance a foxtrot

I love this man, but he's not going to get much better.

The commentary and the tears tonight felt like a farewell. I don’t see how he can go much further. I was concerned that he would injure himself tonight. I won’t be surprised if he pulls out of the competition tomorrow.

I find them pushing their showmance to be utterly cringe.   A successful showmance leaves audiences wondering. It is not announced.

Derek , I love him. I always wanted  to dance  with him.

Maybe it was noise at my house but I couldn't hear the music all that well during that segment but I do like that they're doing some education about Soul Train and music choice.

Oooh, yeah, I really liked that dance from Jenn and Sasha. That was beautiful. And yes, sexy.

Yep.  That was a beautiful dance and I think it was underscored.  It's one of my favorite waltzes from this show.

I like Chandler but I always am torn when someone seems to be so much more trained in dance compared to the other contestants.

Stephen is such a joy to watch and that dance was good

I love Steven and Rylee I don't care that they aren't technically perfect. They are fun to watch. Eric and Reginald seem nice but they aren't as good as the other contestants.

I couldn't hear the music at all and there was no noise at my house.  They really failed miking this segment.

I thought her timing was disastrous.  I often think couples must have done better in rehearsal and the show stays with that narrative.

I thought Ilona looked graceful and danced beautifully.

I'd say that's the first time I've ever liked Brandon doing anything.

I am NOT looking forward to Gene Simmons.

I fear that not only is Stephen not progressing, but that he isn't being given dance styles that would encourage progress. The Jive and  the Quickstep already?  Plus, he wasn't nearly ready for a Paso Doble.

I don't see how anything on "Hair Metal Night" can get him beyond 30 (and how he received two 8s, I don't know).

Stephen needs a Viennese Waltz to show smooth lines, not staccato moves.

I hate that this show has just said fuck Len Goodman it's  time for the rules to be thrown out because we got such a bad crop of slow horses that they can't keep on time let alone adhere to rules of ballroom for 45 seconds.

Relaxing the rules not get rid of them!  So let's overscore so that the audience thinks they're getting quality.?  Just about everyone except the highest score broke rules with impunity.

Stephen and Reilly - I can't like a team that just ignores everything. His posture is terrible, his musicality is terrible, he's stiff but hey let's break hold - a dance position you can drive a bus through instead of being a close hold and let's just throw in a random flip. That choreography was so bad it just highlighted his weaknesses.

Joey and Jenna - okay let's do a Mark Ballas special back flip to impress Derek. Let's just forget about incredibly sloppy footwork and sickle feet and let's make the lighting dark and red so we can't see it.

Jenn and Sasha - "Falling " doesn't require the Rumba to highlight the dynamics of the song in a Viennese Waltz. I noticed Jenn had reservations and she was right. This wasn't a fusion assignment. Even though Derek said it was better -you can still see the rolling shoulders and lack of closed feet.

Reggie and Emma and Eric and Britt  improvement? This is what we get both men have had some real struggles to actually be able to physically engage in this. I wish them well

Phaedra and Val

Really obnoxious choreography from Val not much QS just more of the same pulling her around. So her timing was off.

Dwight and Daniella

Obviously  he messed up big time but at least has rhythm and is a performer. His movement barely resembled Cha Cha . If he doesn't commit his time will be shorter than expected.

Ilona and Allen -

I know these celebrities need help from the pros, but to call out the step sequences so obviously into the camera should be reserved for those who don't hear well or have mobility issues. His barking the count was a distraction. For the Foxtrot we lost her personality. we need that smile and joy to sell the dance. Also she dances small she needs to keep working on her dance position and open up to the audience.

Danny and Witney-

Foxtrot that includes a back flip? Why? He looked nervous because it was a solo thing. They could have done that nice partner lift they were practicing which would have been more appropriate than a backflip you might see in a relaxed rules Jive.  Also Danny has posture  and dance position issues never addressed by the judges

Brookes and Gleb

Gleb has to lose the swarmy choreo. She has some good lines but there needs to be more work on the Rumba walks, the cucarachas need work. I just don't think Gleb is a stickler for fundamentals. She shouldn't be jumping into a lunge, for instance.

Chandler and Brandon

Finally we had a dance that Len would approve of. Not a lot of messing about, right into the old school that seemlessly moved into Cha Cha with a great unexpected and sassy costume reveal. Such great Run DMC costumes -All elements of performance were working on all cylinders. Chandler moved right into the cheeky dancing. Nice forward locks, spin turns, New Yorker etc. she could probably get more grounded still but it was an impressive dance.  I feel that Brandon has shed his "crap" choreographer mantle. Three dances in and his work is getting more and more exciting to watch. As I've said previously Brandon is doing amazing, but the small fanbase for Chandler will prevent them from being there at the end. On a dance show it's all about PR not dance. When they go I go because they obviously entertained and slayed. I I was bored until we got to them.

Brooks and gleb-I saw no hip action which the rumba requires. She has beautiful lines yet something is missing in her dancing. The choreo was choppy not smooth. Way too much fluffing about in the beginning as Len would say.

Chandler and Brandon- I loved it. She had amazing timing. Great choreo. Bit much else to say.

Stephen and Rylee- don’t get me wrong, I loved the dance from a fun aspect. However, the quickstep you are not supposed to break hold in except for 10 seconds before you go in hold and 10 seconds at the end. This dance was loaded with breaking hold. It was a quickstep hip hop fusion honestly. His posture wasn’t great, he was rushing. I did think it was a cute dance but it just wasn’t a proper quickstep.

I found her to be stiff as an ironing board... havent watched any of the others to have an opinion.

Reginald and Emma- it was a sweet cute dance, Emma did what she could with his abilities. He isn’t going to go much further but he’s so likeable. Clearly he has memory issues as it’s so distracting watching Emma tell him the next steps during the dance. I just love him and I love how Emma is with older contestants.

Eric and Britt- it was adorable and I love that song but he’s just not gonna get much better. His positive attitude is infectious though.

Ilona and alan- this is what this competition is about. Ilona is improving and every single week. Love the choreo and while that song is difficult to choreograph a foxtrot too Alan did a good job. She’s going to be better in the in gold dances but let’s see how she does on her next Latin ones.

Joey and Jenna- I love how they went right into the jive with no messing about in the beginning. His actual jive steps were very flat footed but he was having fun. He has showmanship and that is important. Not enough kicks and flicks for my liking but a good job and it was an entertaining dance. ( jive is my favorite dance so it would be hard to find one I didn’t enjoy)

Jenn and Sasha- beautiful dress, proper Viennese waltz. I felt she was rushing a bit at times and her transitions into the next movement were shaky. It wasn’t smooth and fluid. She’s definitely improved though but she seems unsure when she isn’t in hold with him.

Dwight and Daniella- technically it wasn’t his best. It was a fun dance and where he shines is his charisma, he always has an absolute blast to where he makes people want to get up and dance with him and that’s a really important quality to have in dance. He definitely needs to redeem himself in the Dance tonight.

Phaedra and Val- now I love val but damn it you know this isn’t a proper quickstep. Breaking holds, too much messing about, the quickstep they did do she was off timing. I’m sorry but 8 was way too high. The choreo was bad for a quickstep and I was left wanting more. Val is phoning it in this season and I’m growing tired of it.

Danny and Whitney- I really wish these pros would stop throwing random moves in that don’t belong in the dance. A backflip shouldn’t be in a foxtrot. That foxtrot was really fast and at points resembles a tango. To me it was almost unrecognizable as a foxtrot.

i want to see proper dances people.

Val and Phaedra….it looked like he was dragging her around the floor. I’ve seen this before when pros get a contestant who has poor concepts of the dance. The pro just muscles them into compliance.

I just don't understand so many of the high scores-especially this early into the season.  I saw a lot of bad footwork from multiple contestants and yet their scores did not necessarily show that.

I also think that some of the pros are throwing away too much at their partners-just focus on the assigned dance and forget all of the jumps/backflips, etc.  I'm also surprised how many routines incorporated the stairs which consistently throw the timing of the contestants off.

I completely agree about the stairs. I have yet to see using the stairs improve a dance.

Loved Rosie Perez. I like that she stated up front how she was going to judge. She has the chops to have been a more technical judge but she just didn't see that as her role and I liked it.

Bruno is basically incoherent which is a shame because I really think he could add some valid input - which he does from time to time when he settles the eff down.

I think unfortunately Bruno throws away his time on theatrics. He’s got a very keen eye and has a lot more to offer than just being the most amazingly fit 68 year old around.

Maybe we could start a campaign to get Bruno to sit down.  If he would just sit down and stop trying to come up with cutesy alliterative descriptions, I think he'd be great.  It's like Mary on SYTYCD with the screaming and the whatever train.  She just did it so much she damaged her vocal chords ffs.  Whoever it is who decides these things need to be applied to every single dance should be kicked in the shins.  Of course, it does make for a fast watch, it's been years since I haven't ffed through Bruno and CAI.

I think these two highlight the importance of having a good pro to help in this competition. Rylee is not a good teacher. Alan is.  It's a bummer because I think Stephen actually has more natural ability than Ilona but he is not going to get much better with her as a coach vs. Ilona who has gotten better each week. Either way, I love having both of them in the competition.

This week was so weird. This music just did not suit quick steps and fox trots. And some of the choreo was bizarre. I mean, Sasha and Jenn's foxtrot was sexier than Gleb and the model's rhumba.  And at this point, I really don't care if they are actually hooking up or not, I want them off my tv even before Reginald or Erik just for the grossness of it.

Favorites of the night were Joey, Ilona and Danny.

Worst were Reginald, Erik and Dwight who looked like he was just winging it. I mean, really bad.

I loathe Phaedra, and if she had any other pro I would feel bad for them, but I did cackle at her manhandling Val in practice.....

If Brandon wants a mirrorball, it's now or never. He is basically dancing with another pro - he will never have another shot like this. Even though she is great, I can't warm to them because I usually prefer to root for people who are not trained dancers. I don't care if she wasn't trained in ballroom, to me she is a ringer. I would rather see Ilona or Joey win.

Stephen and Rylee….one thing that bugged me was the constant mugging as if “hey we are in silly outfits doing crazy stuff!”. I realize they are both young and dancing to an era far before them but I’d like to see them tone that down.

I think that was the biggest issue last night, yeah. It tripped up a lot of people.
