Happytobehere September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 Well, that ending was intense. I don't like him because of the thug thing, but that was just so awful. Any chance Brigitte had of not being a complete head case just went out the window. Way too much Mickey this episode. A little of that guy goes a long way. Wonder where they are going with Terry and Ray. No way this cop isn't scamming Abby. He clearly isn't really into her and her bitchy, whiney, nagging, annoying behind, and deep down inside, she knows it. But since this chic is the same one who brought Mickey into their lives, she doesn't care about the havoc she is unleashing. Can we get away from the reporter. She is just so bad. There is no way she survives the season (too bad the same can't be said for Abby). Hopefully the new showrunner will correct the problems with this show and either eliminate or seriously dial back the Abby and the kids and give us more Ray working. Well, that ending was intense. alexvillage September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 The whole Mickey movie deal seemed unlikely to me. Glad it is going nowhere. And Starsky! Agree that the reporter has no place in the show. She is not needed and is annoying, needy and insecure. Also agree that this is a good chance to get rid of Abby and the kids. Especially the kids. Don't buy that Cookie did not see the girl in the backseat. Quiet street, he would have heard her breathing. I also think that they picked the wrong kid to sing. Did not like his voice at all, expected more 2 Link to comment

scrb September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 I don't know that the show would necessarily be better if it focused on Ray's work and how he made so much money that he had to launder it. At first, he seemed to just fix whatever was needed to be fixed for the clients of the lawyers. But then they showed him getting entrepreneurial, cutting his own deals with the self-help guy and pocketing the money he convinced Stu to pay to the porn producers, in order to make the downpayment on the house. Sopranos delved into how the crew "earned" like the stock pump and dump, the capos getting their hands dirty and puling heists themselves, the crew ripping each other off, etc. However that show had to depict the family relationships as well. It wasn't just a straight depiction only of criminal acts, but what made these men tick. Ray blatantly flouts authority, whether telling the FBI chief to fuck off or breaking into a cop's home. Why not resort to outright crime, like robbing banks, which is what the Southey hoodlums are known for, as in The Town movie. Link to comment

Great show but the writers seem totally obsessed with the word "fuck". 2 Link to comment
cattykit September 1, 2014 Share September 1, 2014 (edited) Outstanding episode!! Best one since the pilot!! Agree. Except for bringing back Lois Lane. For once I wasn't waiting impatiently for the episode to end, but wanted to see more. Love the byplay with Avi and Lena. Love any scene with Avi and Lena. Bridget can't sing worth shit. And she asks Marvin where he found "Sunny," as if she never heard of it, and ten minutes later she's singing an asynchronous duet. I guess she needs her daddy now. Cookie is a Very Bad Guy, yet he backs down to Ray, who therefore must be the Baddest MF in town. I didn't like Bridget and Marvin together (she's a little spoiled bitch and I can't get past his arrogant demand to "pipe me"), but that was sad. Obviously Cookie didn't actually give a shit about the kid; it was just about the power play. Raise your hand if you were hoping the signature was for divorce papers (even though we already knew it had to do with the high-interest loan). Ray seems to love Abby but darned if I can figure out what he loves about her. I think we were actually supposed to like Mickey in this episode. Allan is the one who picked a fight after Mickey didn't point out to the group that the woman on his arm was not Claudette. Always nice to see Richard Benjamin. And as usual, not enough Bunk. He had dollar signs in his eyes, too, but all for naught, I guess. Edited September 1, 2014 by cattykit 2 Link to comment

PiggyRod September 2, 2014 Share September 2, 2014 Good episode. This was the first time I was buying into the Marvin-Brig love... that was so bad. I agree with what others have said, Cookie definitely saw her in the back seat. He just chose to ignore her, he knows who her Daddy is. Mick and Claudette's husband... meh but I LOVED that he stole the silverware. Abby... there are simply no words. Even thought I knew those papers were about the loan and kept hoping that they might be divorce papers. I am dying to know what's the cop's angle, there is no way in hell he is getting into this much crazy because he lovessssssssssss her. Avi and Lena best part of the episode as in many others. I love their characters, and felt so bad for Avi when he didn't want to tell Ray. 1 Link to comment
damalanop September 2, 2014 Share September 2, 2014 (edited) This and last week's episodes have been the best of the season so far. No one was put into a better light IMO but there was plot movement in the last couple of episodes that seem to be leading to a finale that I am actually interested to see. The way things were going this season, I wasn't sure that I'd be able to hang in for the long haul. Marvin's and Bridget's relationship hasn't garnered much favor from me since last season because I really hate the whole "good girl" hooking up with the "bad boy" theme that has been beat to death in TV shows. However I have to admit that after watching this episode I kind of started to like them as a couple for some irrational reason. Given that my interest in them coincides with Bridget witnessing Marvin's violet death, I don't know what to really make of it. As much I can't stand Bridget, I felt for her in having to witness those killings. Loved, loved, loved Avi and Lena, especially Avi wringing his hands about taking pictures of Abbie and then having to give them to Ray. Once again there wasn't enough screen time for them. The Bunk finally got a scene! Loved when his eyes lit up at the possibility of making more side money as a film consultant. Surely that is a better gig than dealing with Mickey and his shenanigans. Abbie was as hateable as ever, but I am so glad that she didn't sign those house papers. That's the one thing she's done right these last two seasons. She had an interesting juxtaposition with Bridget while they were on the phone lying to each other. Abbie lying that she was running errands while laid up with Jim, and Bridget lying that she was home sick when she was was at the studio with Marvin. Bridget acts like she is so different from her mother when in reality...I just hope that she doesn't turn into whiny, emotionally stunted nag that Abbie has become. One in the family is enough! Sofie Fatale September 2, 2014 Share September 2, 2014 I can't stand Abbie but I say get that piece if she wants. Just be smart about it. That said, she's being played hard by cop dude. I actually really liked Marvin and Bridget together. For all his posturing Marvin was just a kid who cared for bridg, and didn't deserve that death. I also don't think Cookie saw her, and Ray is going to go all Charles Bronson on everyone at some point. I hope that schmuck Lee gets killed in the process. Hate the reporter. She can go. It's interesting that despite some opportunities to "make it" in Hollywood, Mickey really is just a petty crook who steals silverware, and it's kind of sad. 3 Link to comment
MrWhyt September 2, 2014 Share September 2, 2014 I think he saw her and will be using her as some kind of leverage with Ray No way a guy who just got out of prison would knowingly leave a witness to a double murder alive. As for leverage, what's he going to do? threaten to kill her? he can already do that without her having been a witness. I think Ray is already going to go all Hulk Smash! on him after the murders, threatening Bridge would only make things worse. Link to comment

Puddy September 3, 2014 Share September 3, 2014 Ray's cheating is totally different than Abby's cheating. (I am a woman, by the way!) Ray's is a body function, yes, like taking a dump. Kobo Duram September 3, 2014 Share September 3, 2014 I'm in the camp that says that Cookie didn't see Bridget. My opinion is based on the fact that Bridget laid down in the back seat before the shooting. I think that was simply the writer's way of having her be unseen. Also, I think Marvin saved her life, because Cookie, standing at the window, begins to lean in to make sure there is no one else in the car, and Marvin distracts him by engaging Cookie in a plea for his life. 2 Link to comment
Puddy September 3, 2014 Share September 3, 2014 (edited) tricknasty - I disagree. Avi knows more than we are being shown right now. If he did not care and was just doing his job, her screwing around would just be business as usual -- another bit of information his boss told him to find. Check it off the to-do list. Done. What's for lunch? He knows Ray loves Abby. He may not know why Ray loves Abby, but that part is none of Avi's bidness. Avi did not want to hurt his friend with the bad news/proof. Two different things. When Avi saw her with another man, he knew she was done with Ray. He had that news flash before Ray. That is a tough spot. You know your best friend's wife is done with him and you have the be the messenger? He would have rather carried that burden than to give it to Ray. He wants to protect his boss who is also a close friend and since Ray is a close friend, Avi's love and concern extends to the cheating wife and the two ass hat kids, even though they don't deserve it. Abby treated Avi like shit when Ray sent him over to stand guard. What did Avi do? Yes, he did his job but he also did it with love. Anyone else would have told her to fuck off and left. Ray knows Abby is a shithead but Avi took her shit for Ray and -- even though Abby is too stupid to notice -- he protected her. Getting paid to do it? Big deal. He would have done it for free. He cares about all of them. Once again, Ray's cheating and Abby's cheating could not be more different. There are layers to this odd triangle that has more than three sides. Avi is a smart man. He knows why a man cheats and why a woman cheats. He knows Abby is in love and he knows she is not doing it for spite or because she wants a bit of strange. Why do you think Avi was so upset? Her cheating hurts him because he loves the entire family and he knows Abby is now (wrongly) "done" with Ray. Since someone else has "been there" now, Ray has some decisions to make, too. Yeah, I know it sounds all anti-woman and shit, but it is how this shit usually works. Give the Hebrew Hammer some credit, too. Edited September 3, 2014 by Puddy 2 Link to comment
ethalfrida September 3, 2014 Share September 3, 2014 (edited) Good insight, Puddy. If you put a personality like Mickey's in there to do the job (not as Ray's dad in this instance) it would have been a whole different story. Puddy September 3, 2014 Share September 3, 2014 (edited) ethalfrida - Good point! Yes, Mickey would have done exactly what you said. You can just hear him, "Well, I don't need this shit" and then, bang-bang. It makes no difference if Cookie saw Bridget or not. Since we saw Abby the Ass Hat taking her to see the new cop boyfriend, the cat is way out of the bag. You just know the cop wants to have a hand in a huge investigation like this, too. Even if it means putting a target on Shawty's back. Once you put your hand in the cage, all bets are off. When the police come to call on Cookie, what's a brother gonna do? Lee is going to pay for his stupidity and I can't wait to see what Ray metes out to him. Hopefully, a dramatic ass kicking. For starters. Gudzilla - Oh, my! I like "Rocky" better now that he has aged and scored a sweet ass gig on Ray Donovan! Thanks for that link, I think. Edited September 3, 2014 by Puddy 4 Link to comment

All Avi knows is that she's cheating. (I'm female as well). His sympathy for Abby when Ray cheats is never shown... I agree. And it doesn't really matter if Abby is in love, or thinks she is in love, or not. It is a double standard, "boys will be boys" mentality. Men cheating is ok, women cheating is going to hurt the men too much. Her cheating hurts him because he loves the entire family and he knows Abby is now (wrongly) "done" with Ray. But then he should also be upset with Ray because he loves the family so much. Or does he also thinks that cheating without love does not make other people hurt? Even if he didn't know that, and if he is smart, he would have learnt the moment he saw Abby going after another man. "She is so hurt, she believes the only away for her to no hurt so much is to do the same thing Ray does" There is also the fact that she didn't just fell in love with the guy. There was lust, before "love". The same thing Ray does. Cheating because of lust Bu the way, the "love" Abby feels I think it is just a misguided feeling of a hurt person who thinks she is being loved too. Denial, wishful thinking 3 Link to comment

I think Avi might possibly have been just as upset if he'd been tasked to get dirt on Ray to give to Abby. I'm sure he thinks this part of the job was not what he signed up for. Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo September 5, 2014 Author Share September 5, 2014 I think the primary reason that Avi didn't want to tell Ray is that regardless of Abby's reasons for cheating, Ray will be hurt. Avi loves Ray and doesn't want to see Ray in pain. And that's before you take into account the possible long and short term repercussions. Even though Avi doesn't interact with Abby or the kids often, I think he still feels protective of them and that he would be upset if Abby and Ray separated. I'm undecided whether Cookie saw Bridget lying in the backseat. He definitely started looking her way but then Marvin distracted him. I think that if Cookie saw her, he didn't kill her because (1) she was not part of the disagreement and (2) she's Ray's daughter. Killing Marvin and Rekon settles the issue as far as Cookie is concerned. Debt paid, situation resolved. Killing Bridget, however, would open an entirely new can of worms and set up a huge conflict between Cookie and Ray. Cookie is a businessman in many ways, so he knows that starting a war with Ray is not necessary. I, too, was hoping that Ray had divorce papers for Abby to sign, despite the fact that she made it clear to the snotty new neighbors that she had no intention of divorcing him. I don't think it matters what your reasons for cheating are. If you know it will upset your spouse (meaning you don't have an open relationship and carte blanche to hook up with as many people as you like), it doesn't matter if you're emotionally cheating or just having sex. You are choosing to do something that you know you aren't supposed to do and that makes you an asshole. I did find it hilarious that Lena didn't give a shit and pointed out that Ray has been cheating on Abby for years. She is so practical. I wish we had gotten more than 30 seconds of the Avi and Lena show this week. They are so much more interesting than Mickey, Abby, or the kids. At least Bridget showed a tiny bit of brain tonight. The smartest thing I can recall her doing in two seasons was getting the hell out of that car and then calling Ray. I still don't like Bridget but she didn't deserve to witness a double homicide. There is no hope that she will turn out even halfway normal after this. Hopefully she won't blame Ray for Marvin's death. So was Mickey hallucinating or was Rosanna Arquette really in the photo he saw at the producer's house? I was waiting for someone to reveal that she was the guy's wife or that girl's mom and then nothing came of it. Abby is such a teenager. She acts like a 13 year old girl whenever she's around that cop. That cop was smart not to shoot Ray. Instead by tattling on Ray, he gets to make Ray look like the intrusive jealous killjoy. Lee has always been annoying but now he can DIAF. His arrogance was so over the top this week. He was a sniveling wreck but once Ray showed up, he started mouthing off again. His decision to pay off Cookie was stupid and reckless. 2 Link to comment

I was waiting for someone to reveal that she was the guy's wife or that girl's mom and then nothing came of it. I remember Rosanna Arquette talking a couple of times (once in the spa and once when she was pleading for her life) about how she was the ex-wife of a big shot Hollywood producer, so I assumed that must be Richard Benjamin. I like that they haven't let go of Mickey's crisis of conscience. Link to comment
Cubsfan September 8, 2014 Share September 8, 2014 Two things: Anyone that thinks Marvin saved Bridgette's life is mistaken. Where did Cookie come from? Did he appear out of thin air in that intersection? He was watching the recording studio and saw all three get in the SUV. He will wait until the time is right and then, finish what he has to. If you do not understand this lifestyle or it is not your reality, you are missing out on the viewing experience. Stop putting your ideas in the writer's mind. Puddy is spot on when it comes to Ray's mind and Abby's attitude. Face it. Ray told his daa-taa to not see Marvin. If Abby was not out with her cop at a motel, she would have been able to prevent her daa-taa from seeing Marvin that day. Ray's dalliances have never put his family in dane-jaa. 1 Link to comment
