The pot doughnuts got a mention today, thanks to Ciara! Surprised to see Shawn and Philip actually talking civilly for a change. And that Shawn supports Philip getting Titan over Xander. So is throwing one's sexual proclivities in one's face Xander's go-to when he doesn't get what he wants from a woman? It's a step up from outright threatening or menacing them, at least. But still . . . dude, that wasn't cool with Stephanie at all. Still, it's good to see that there still are people who hate and/or distrust him, such as Shawn and Stephanie. Hope with her kids? Beautiful. I hope the show surprises me and lets Shawn/Phillip be friends this time around and not fight over Belle for the 210324th time. I found it rather refreshing tbh. It seems like when Shawn is single he gets a POV etc. granted BB isn't really my fave version of Shawn but he's preferable this way than being Belle's appendage but I digress. While Xander is an ass he makes a valid point about Stephanie mixing business with personal. Hope/Jennifer were the best part of the show. I'm glad someone distrusts Doug III. This was what was missing for the Konstantin story for me Hope and Jennifer being involved where Maggie was concerned. I mean I know it was supposed to be about John and then Steve was involved but I do think there needed to be a woman's POV also. Edited December 6 by CanaryFan98 5 2 Link to comment

Someone less biased toward Chad needs to ask him that if he were to find out that Madeline were still alive and being held by Clyde (or some other madman), wouldn't he, too, go to extremes to bring her home? Chad, who has gone to extremes throughout his history on the show, would then have no room to talk anymore, because his answer would be a very reluctant yes. 2 Link to comment
4evaQuez December 7 Share December 7 I'm catching up on this week's episodes. I have a tremendously unpopular opinion: I didn't like Doug's funeral episode. I read here that Hope/KA was not present due to scheduling conflicts. I understand the real-world purpose of this, and I thought I would be perfectly okay with a funeral without Hope. However, during the actual funeral, I couldn't help but feel Hope's absence. It felt like a two-legged table that was missing a leg. Hope is one leg, and Julie is the other leg. Liz Chandler, Marie Horton, Lucas, Stephen Olson, etc., did not make up for the missing leg. Doug is the father of one of the most important characters in Days' history; there was a void for me with that colossal part of Doug's contribution to the show and his legacy missing. I felt similarly but not as strongly about JJ and Chad missing the funeral. Those two and Ciara are the characters from a younger generation and more modernly relevant Days' landscape with whom Doug has the closest ties. Kayla, Steve, and even Lucas felt like a stretch when JJ and Chad were absent. Lucas said that Doug helped him feel like less of a black sheep in the Horton family when his paternity was first revealed. Is that true? I don't remember Doug being on the cast around that time. I also remember Alice being the one to bridge the gap between the Horton family and Lucas. 6 Link to comment
JBC344 December 7 Share December 7 Alice was the bridge, then Maggie later on. I don't remember specifically if they were on when the reveal happened but they certainly were on during that time period. Tbt, Doug would be the guy to relate to Lucas. Julie and Lucas have always been close, so not a stretch. I know Paulina is not a favored character around here but I was hoping she and Stephen would get a scene together. Jackee and Stephen used to play best friends on Another World. 2 1 Link to comment
4evaQuez December 7 Share December 7 I finished the week. Jennifer and Hope were easily the highlight. It's uncanny how those two can just slip in and feel so natural with each other and the cast. I hope we see them working together to uncover this Doug Williams III mystery. Days really needs to overhaul its 20s and 30s cast. This has to be the worst young cast the show has ever had. I don't know if it's the writing, casting, acting, directing, low budget, or all of the above; however, I can't imagine any of these characters steering this show into the future. I know KM's Abby wasn't popular and neither are Ciara and Ben; however, they are young(ish) characters that are popular and dynamic. They are the type of characters the 20s and 30s set can revolve around. I found Leo's joke about everyone being related in this town odd, considering the people he was referencing did not currently live in Salem. Stephen hadn't lived there in literal decades, Abby is deceased, Ciara lives wherever she is for several years now and so does Lucas. 3 Link to comment

This is very valid. Maybe if I'd seen more of those early years, with Hope growing up and Doug being close with her, I'd agree. I will say that KA sobbing on-camera was cathartic. We didn't really see that from any of the cast during the funeral stuff, though many looked quite heartbroken. But KA just let loose with the waterworks and that seemed appropriate. (I'm not blaming Susan or anything, of course. It's astonishing she agreed to appear for a death and funeral storyline at all.) 13 hours ago, 4evaQuez said: Lucas said that Doug helped him feel like less of a black sheep in the Horton family when his paternity was first revealed. Hopefully there's some truth to what he said. 12 hours ago, JBC344 said: Jackee and Stephen used to play best friends on Another World. Having not seen Missy in the role in a long time, I can handle her in small doses, but her real-life stuff, and the general entitlement of her character (particularly when it comes to her husband and kids and family name) grate on me. In this instance, it was appropriate to bring her back into the fold. It did feel like Days was more whole again with her there, but I'd gladly see JJ or other Hortons occupying that space. I guess I don't see much story potential for Jennifer. She and Jack can just stay off screen and pop up for things like this, and I wouldn't mind at all. 10 hours ago, 4evaQuez said: Days really needs to overhaul its 20s and 30s cast. I don't know if it's the writing, casting, acting, directing, low budget, or all of the above; however, I can't imagine any of these characters steering this show into the future. This really is the problem. And it has been for the last decade. Brady is such a tired character, Belle and Shawn pop in and out and do the same dance every time. Sami is seemingly gone as a long-term option, and Lucas is treated as an afterthought. Ericole seem done now, and so do Phloe. Xander really is one of the few characters to have an interesting arc over the last few years, and I wonder if that was just a lucky break for him and us. Within the slightly younger set, Ciara became so unlikable that I'd dread having her back on the canvas, with that actress or someone else in the role. Claire was nearly ruined in the process of propping her up, and seems safer with Theo off-camera. Chad is perpetually linked to Abigail, even in death, for no good reason. Allie was a mega-dud, and Tripp, though nice enough, was dull. ...they seem to be trying, at least lately, to bring fresh blood in...but can Johnny, Chanel, Joy and Holly, Tate and Sophia became stars? Ehhh. Hard to say. But with the way their veterans are going, they really need to take action fast to build up the younger characters into compelling leads, instead of mildly okay "filler" plots. If Marlena, Abe, Kate, Roman, Steve, Kayla, Maggie and Julie all bowed out...this show wouldn't feel the same at all. The producers and writers made the mistake of over-relying on the veterans and "super couples" for too long. It feels like it would take three of the younger characters to equal our general interest in one Marlena or Steve. Maybe even five. Hopefully with the upcoming writing change things will shift a bit more. I still want the veterans to be there and get good material, but the younger actors need interesting plots that show off their skills. 6 2 1 Link to comment

brisbydog Tuesday at 11:26 PM Share Tuesday at 11:26 PM I think we can all agree that we do not want any Konstantin relatives on this show. I can't imagine the writers wanting to give him a daughter and four grandkids, given how much he was loathed, so I am anticipating that Catharina will reveal her mother helped her fake her death to get her away from Kon after he tried to kill her, and that he wasn't really her biological father. So our options are: 1. Victor. A man who really enjoyed impregnating his rival's wives (Caroline-Shawn, Loretta-Ernesto, Fiona-Titus, even Kate/Viv-Stefano). He fits the best with what we know about the time frame. Catharina would inherit three siblings: Bo, Xander and Philip and Victor would suddenly have four more grandchildren. I don't see a ton of drama here though given Victor is dead and most of his family won't care. Maggie would be very nurturing to Aaron and Felicity though. 2. John. He has no past memories of what went down in Greece, so he could easily have had a fling with Elizabeth Meleonous when sent to Greece. She probably wanted to stick it to Konstantin and John was a hot young guy with no past. Catharina would again get three siblings: Brady, Paul and Belle. Sadly with John not on screen anymore this will likely not happen, although there would be built in drama with Aaron and Tate suddenly closely related. 3. Steve. He was around at the time too and is alive, so bonus. He could also have had an affair with Elizabeth but had no idea he was a father. All we know about him pre Salem is that he was with Marina as a teenage merchant marine and then with Britta in his twenties. Again, Catharina gets three siblings in Stephanie, Tripp and Joey. Kayla already has issues with Marc due to him messing with her DNA tests and is furious at Cat for impersonating Abby, so I like that aspect, plus the Johnsons have no grandkids and I would love to see them caring for the younger Greenes. I think given that Steve is the only living one of the guys left this works best. 4. Konstantin. But who wants that? Thoughts? 2 Link to comment

JBC344 Wednesday at 04:24 AM Share Wednesday at 04:24 AM I have no problem with this new family being related to Konstantin. This show needs a new family to diversify. No need to apologize, you were just stating some intriguing options if Show hopefully decides to revise this family's origin story away from what was, for many of us, a prolonged and unneeded storyline centered around Konstantin. Being tied to him, at this point, isn't advantageous to these new characters. ETA - If Show goes the route you've outlined, I vote for Steve. It'd fit with the disdain he had for Konstantin from the outset, and would give him something to do. To me, Steve feels underutilized and would give him a focus other than the rarely seen Black Patch. Edited Wednesday at 05:30 PM by boes 8 1 1 Link to comment

I mean if this show is going to have a future there needs to be new blood. Granted I don't know if relating them to Kon was a good idea since he's not here and this story involving John(who's sadly gone forever) should've made that DOA. That being said they could've done this by keeping Talia around for Jada and bringing their mother who we have yet to meet to the show. As well as expanding the families of characters we have had on this show that we have known for years. For example, Nicole was on this show for years without much family for most of it(they could've kept Faye and recasted Brandon). If anything this reminds me of what an anomaly the Brady's were. They only came into existence because Marlena's pairing with Roman was so popular so they created his entire family and brought them on in the 80s. Then those characters became popular on their own along with their respective pairings. The Brady's have stayed ever since and so many other families have come and gone through the years in comparison. 4 1 Link to comment

Even though it happened months ago, it still had to be really hard for Susan to relive Bill's funeral. It just occurred to me that the Salem PD has absolutely NO standing to be keeping Mark Greene in jail. The supposed attempted murder happened in FRANCE. If France wanted to extradite and charge him they could, otherwise Salem has absolutely no jurisdiction over this "crime." The plane did take off but started to fail midflight. Before it crashed, Shawn gave his own oxygen mask to Bo to save him and then Shawn died in the crash. I'm barely watching Show since Doug's funeral, other than the last few scenes with KA, and what I've been able to catch of Steve and Kayla. I have little interest in the rest. I did tune in to see somebody, finally, put a bullet into that played out villian, Clyde, so I caught a bit of the rescue of Cat's mother. I just don't care. Maybe that will change but Show, once again, puts all this effort into trying to drum up interest and suspense in the rescue and reconciliation of characters we've either never seen before or seen very little of, like the Greene siblings. They could all disappear tomorrow and I wouldn't care, though I'd miss Aaron's goofy likeability. Cat might be good, I like the actress, but so far I don't see much life between her and Chad and her introduction story has been dreadful IMO. Now, wondering where Abby's body is just seems distasteful, at best. At worse, it indicates that character will probably reappear at some point, which I really don't want. Better minds than mine please correct...... Ava glommed on to Steve when the Brady family was in Ireland and she sabatoged the plane to stop them from flying home to Salem. The plane did take off but started to fail midflight. But mostly, I just don't care very much. Good job, Ron C. I was doing something else when the gun shot went off and didn't even see Clyde take the bullet, so I was surprised here to read that's the direction it was headed in, LOL. Today's episode was pretty good. Belle telling Brady about her breakup was handled well...but the mention of Grandpa Shawn's death was strange since it sounded like Brady said Shawn Sr was drugging Ava at the time she sabotaged the plane. Did I mishear? I rewound to listen to it three times but Eric M's delivery was mushy. I find it hard to believe Shawn would have drugged Ava... I feel like Justin would probably want to stay the hell out of Xander's attempts to control Titan. The guy is a killer and really, does Justin benefit from taking his case against Philip? I feel like Justin would prefer Philip have control... They should have just given Xander his own, new lawyer to try the case. The sad thing in this whole Philip plotline is I get the strong feeling he's going to be the bad guy once his fake letter is revealed to be fake...and yet, what everyone is saying makes a ton of sense. He did work with and learn from Victor. He was groomed to take over the company. Honestly, I have a MUCH harder time believing Victor would hand the entire enterprise over to Xander, even out of guilt. I'm sure he felt bad on some level for being a crap secret father to him...but not to the extent that he's risk ruining Claire/Ciara/ShawnD's family company. I like Xander and hope he'll be a cool CEO and all, but seriously, Philip has a legit claim and deserves the support of those who knew Victor closely. It's nice and all that Paul T is sculpted like a greek god, but...working out in the living room? Seriously?? They couldn't have made up the parking garage to resemble a gym room or something? The K mansion is supposed to be huge. Seeing him sweating over that (presumably expensive) carpet and sofa is...kinda gross. And having him say he "always" needs someone to sit on him while he does push-ups? Seriously, Ron? So...if Sarah didn't know about this quirk/kink, who the hell has been riding Xander all this time?? Kristen keeps getting into slap fights in the square. Marlena, Nicole, Sami and now Ava. Yeesh. Loved the shocked reaction of the waitress in the background, however. She must not have worked at the bistro that long...stuff like this happens weekly! I cannot follow the logic of Shawn D saying he can't be a good husband to Belle because of his guilt and obsession with helping his comatose father...and then immediately accepting a job in Salem, a billion miles away from comatose father. Like...huh? If you said you're committed to being a caregiver, then why suddenly abandon that? Seems to me if Shawn wants to stay in Salem and be a Detective again and "live his life", as he said Bo would want, that should naturally mean he's recommitting to his marriage to Belle and letting go of the past. No? If you don't have to be there for Bo, then you can be there for Belle...right? It's like the writers somehow wanted it both ways: Shawn is still miserable and torn up over his father and unable to be a husband...but also simultaneously letting go of all that and getting his real life back. ??? I will say it's great having Martha back. I hope they're smart enough to keep her around for the next few years because this show needs a new generation of "veterans" with the real vets well into their golden years...and the revolving door for Belle/Shawn/Chloe/Philip/Lucas/Sami/Eric/Nicole has not helped matters. Martha's talented and Belle is useful on the canvas. Edited Friday at 11:05 PM by DisneyBoy 6 Link to comment

DisneyBoy Yest. at 02:09 AM Share Yest. at 02:09 AM It's okay. She still sucks. 😄 I'm just glad they didnt make Shawn Sr inadvertently responsible for his own death. Back then, they wouldn't have. They knew how to write villains who were evil, as well as villains you enjoyed (Stefano, Victor). Why was the actor fired? Did he want to leave? 2 Link to comment

Martha's talented and Belle is useful on the canvas. They could've just said Shawn/Belle don't work because Belle can't be faithful(although the last time around it was Shawn who cheated for once) and that's reason enough. What they had was in the past and don't work now. I know it won't last but I will enjoy these two being apart as long as it lasts. 14 hours ago, Giuseppe said: Ava's father was drugging her, not Shawn Sr. I don't really remember what all that was about, though. Actually Frank Parker(Shawn Sr.) had health issues that he couldn't really hide anymore so they killed him off. He passed in 2018 due to dementia and Parkinson's disease. My guess is that's how John's exit will be but we won't see it onscreen like we did Shawn. 1 2 Link to comment
Desperado 17 hours ago Share 17 hours ago Doug Williams III bugs me. The actor looks sub-par to me and feels like a sad namesake to Doug/Bill. I hope the character is someone else or gets recast. Brady has often been skipping material to me but he’s coming alive with Ava and was fine at giving parental advice so I’m watching more of him. I really want Kristen to disappear in a big puff of smoke though. Her being unhinged deeply grates now. Rinse, repeat. 4 1 3 Link to comment
