Maverick December 22, 2021 Share December 22, 2021 Chopped returns January 4th a series titled "Casino Royale". Since Chopped's return shares a name with the first James Bond novel I thought it only fair this year's thread title riffs on a Bond title too. This tournament looks super gimmicky. There's a craps table in the kitchen and the judges are dressed for a winter formal. Ted looks like he should be stroking a white cat as he reveals the basket ingredients in a vague, nondescript euro accent. Tiffani is back as a judge and Christian was one too, so I'm wondering if that's for this series or if they're moving him in as a permanent judge too. 1 Link to comment
mlp December 22, 2021 Share December 22, 2021 I suppose the scenario above is for New Year's but I wish they'd just go back to the original format and skip all the tournaments. Or maybe have just one per year. I also wish they'd ditch Tiffani because I can't stand her but I don't think I'll get that wish. 4 Link to comment
buttersister December 23, 2021 Share December 23, 2021 The baskets should be filled with Stilton, cheddar, feta and parmigiana—this sounds so cheesy. 2 Link to comment
Gramto6 December 24, 2021 Share December 24, 2021 Yeah, I am over all the tournament too! Please let's get back to original Chopped. 3 Link to comment

Rammchick December 29, 2021 Share December 29, 2021 What was this lovefest that was on during Chopped's time slot? This was definitely a kinder, gentler Chopped, compared to how this show started out. I have to say that I don't like the shows where the chefs are "preordained" as much, where they're chosen to fit a theme. It's not as in keeping with the original Chopped spirit. All that being said, I can't say that I miss some of the arrogant jerks -- both chefs and judges -- of old. It will be interesting to see where this goes from here. Link to comment
mlp December 29, 2021 Share December 29, 2021 I thought the show with pasta all three rounds was the new show but nothing at all was said about the show resuming and the kitchen looked the same. Was I confused? I was glad the Italian woman won. I couldn't stand the other woman. Link to comment
libgirl2 January 5, 2022 Share January 5, 2022 The casino idea was a bit cheesy but I was just happy to have Chopped back. It looks like they are back in the normal kitchen, thank God! 4 Link to comment
Grizzly January 5, 2022 Share January 5, 2022 I wonder if it makes the judging harder since the chefs aren't using the same ingredients. 3 Link to comment

Look at the guy with the tuna jello, he did good with that and this rest of his dish was bad. He could easily have a great dish and crappy tuna jello. 1 Link to comment
mlp January 5, 2022 Share January 5, 2022 I can't quite decide if I like the format. It's interesting but it does make the playing field uneven. The guy who placed second definitely misused the horrible egg but there wasn't much he could have done to make it palatable. I thought that Ted looked like he's lost weight. His face was too thin. I basically said that same thing but posted it in the wrong thread: Quote Although I thought the theme was fun, it does remove one of the major hallmarks of Chopped: all contestants have the same ingredients and they're judged on how well they incorporated them, relative to the other contestants. If you swap out one of the ingredients and each contestant has the potential to have different components to work with (which would happen if all rolled the dice in a round), you're now on an uneven playing field, and judges are comparing apples to oranges. Also, the degree of difficulty wildly varies. While it was really obvious which dish was worthy of being chopped each time, it did make me wonder what they would do if it was close, and one dish had easier ingredients than another one. What happens if multiple chefs roll the same number on the dice -- were the cloches replaced after each turn? I didn't notice, but that makes the most sense. Link to comment

Thank you. I have watched the Japanese version of Iron Chef but it looks like I missed those particular episodes. I know where I live when Shad Roe makes its annual appearance it's a big deal. As for the whole "Casino Royale" thing, I don't mind it since Chopped has been pretty stale lately, and at least they're doing something to liven things up a bit. Link to comment

Rammchick January 19, 2022 Share January 19, 2022 I've liked all the chefs we've seen so far (especially this week's crew), but in thinking about this, I still am not completely on board with everyone potentially cooking with different ingredients. What if they left the odd/even thing as it was, and each of the chefs rolled the dice until they gathered all the basket ingredients? Then all would cook with whatever they collectively "won". Man, could they end up with weird baskets that way! 3 Link to comment

It is embarrassing that a chef who claims to respect the product and said the “farm to table” mantra cooked ibérico ham. It’s like making a purée out of Caspian caviar. 2 Link to comment

xaxat February 3, 2022 Share February 3, 2022 I thought the level of execution was exceptional through this entire run. I wonder if the fact that contestants knew the basket ingredients and were able to think strategy during the filming of the craps table played a role. 3 1 Link to comment

The chefs seemed superior to some of the others featured in the "theme" shows prior to the hiatus AND I thought the concept was interesting and entertaining. Amanda looks FABULOUS. Her hair, wardrobe and makeup were very flattering. I'll refrain from commenting on the other judges appearances but I thought that Ted's hair style and appearance looked more polished and professional (please indulge me such "superficial" chatter but, hey, it is TV😃) than was the case before the hiatus. The winner was my favorite and I hope she's able to use the $40K to purchase a house, although in the very competitive and pricey real estate mkt throughout the Country it might not go that far. She was an amazing chef and I enjoyed everything she prepared! 1 Link to comment
Deskisamess February 6, 2022 Share February 6, 2022 Love the show, but Food Network has decided it's ok to run gross "Dr. Pimple Popper" commercials during Chopped. It seems like a lot of $$$ until it's compared with what the local real estate market is showing as homes to purchase. Maybe she should invest it and perhaps, in the future, she might be in a relationship where, perhaps the 2 of them could plan on buying a home together....or MAYBE SHE SHOULD BUY A LOTTERY TICKET !!😄 She was a lovely young lady and very talented!! 1 Link to comment
