So I guess they figure if they basically show the episode in a bunch of preview clips right before it airs that we will be able to follow the convoluted plot
—similar to if we rewatched a really good show right after it aired.

Oh great, now we have smoke shadow monsters. Just what the show needed.

A specialist surgeon goes kayaking on a river in New York and he doesn’t wear a life vest? Mmkay. He’s the only one available in the whole city and is rescued by the only questioning 828’er.

So they named the baby Eden. I guess we’re lucky that after last week they didn’t name her sailor. Because it’s all connected!

Sometimes show acts like these folks were away more than 5 years. That was a song from the 90’s. You’d think this couple would have had a love song that was more current. Good thing it was also randomly on that jukebox thing in the bar.

The takedown of the bad guys felt a bit quick and anti-climatic. They’ll probably reappear later to cause more trouble.

I was sure it was the smoke monster, but I guess it's just Smokey's cousin Shadow.

Early in the season, the writers mentioned Jared being part of a love triangle with Michaela and Zeke, and I (and a bunch of other folks, of course) felt that that really didn't jibe with how evil he was being, so this makes sense.

Ben says that the baby is only "29 weeks old and already running the place".

I'm sorry, but apparently the Manifest writers can't do math.  Flight 828 returned on Nov. 4, 2018 -- Ben and Grace had sex by the end of the first episode (which was only 4 days long) and 29 weeks later would put this show in the 2nd week of June 2019, but it was only March the last couple of episodes, since basically only 1 or 2 days passed in each of the most recent episodes.  How can it by June already ?

And since minimal time, maybe a day, has passed since last episode when Michaela was arrested, how is Grace 29 weeks along ?  Unless Michaela has been in lockup for over 2 months.

Here we go again -- yet another vague calling, only this time it's Grace getting the callings via the baby.  And it all turns into a convoluted Rube Goldberg series of events to save the not-29 week old baby, all while convincing Adrian that the 828ers are servants of evil.

Seriously, they are drudging up the shadow monster from Cal's drawings from the 2nd episode ?  That is just lazy writing.

As for the timeline, 1 maybe 2 days progressed in this episode, which would properly put the timeline around March 20-21, 2019 (and certainly not June 2019).

When is Cal going to figure out that ignoring the visions (or whatever) doesn't make them go away and he should f***ing tell his parents when he sees things like, I dunno, smoke shadow monsters appearing in his drawings? But no, just flip the paper over and wait until something happens to put everyone else in danger without giving anyone a heads up that it was coming.

See something, say something!

Is there anything in the scripts that indicate that Grace couldn't have gotten pregnant 3 months before the flight disappeared and then the embryo/fetus disappeared too until the 828ers reappeared?

I don't think so. But there's nothing to suggest they think that's what happened, either, so them saying 29 weeks without addressing that timeline still doesn't make sense. Not that I expect anything to make sense at this point, anyway.

I wouldn't give the timeline a second thought. Unless an actress is actually pregnant and her pregnancy is written into the story line, the entire 40 weeks is almost never actually adhered to. Usually the pregnancy is sped up  and the character has or loses the baby so that the actress can actually go out on maternity leave. And if the actress isn't actually pregnant, the viewers don't have the attention span to wait 40 weeks!

The whole "choose between the mother and the child" thing was awful, just awful. I mean, to each his and her own, but...when I was having my son, this was discussed with our doctor and my husband and I together put my life first. When my mother was in labor with me, it was discovered that the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck and I was essentially hanging myself as I moved down the birth canal. It being 1962, the doctors didn't have the technology to realize what was happening until it got REALLY serious, at which point, they needed to do an emergency C-section. My father - who was in the waiting room, as was the norm back then - was asked who to "save," should it come to that, and he chose my mom. Again, it is a personal choice but to see Ben soooooo torn up about choosing his own wife made me roll my eyes pretty hard. And now we'll probably be treated to a guilt story line, wherein Ben will agonize over whether he should tell Grace what happened, and we'll have to suffer through that nonsense.

Olive looked particularly young this episode - so perhaps it was a good thing that TJ wasn't around, as it would have been extra squicky to see him kiss her while she looked like a middle school child, what with her frilly anklet socks.

I actually sort of liked the resolution of the Jared story line (at least, for now). I felt bad for Zeke for getting beat up - the guy is already freezing to death! I liked how both Zeke and Jared nodded at each other at the end of the whole ordeal.

The baby being born now could add it to her not being Bens?

Jared undercover, glad it was that, I prefer him to Zeke. The proposal flashback was sweet.

I was thinking about this, and I think I understand how it's all connected.  When the flight disappeared, The Embryo went to The Land of Shadows, where she met her three best friends, Big Black Blob, Medium Black Blob and Another Big Black Blob.  Notice that The Three Blobs aka Shadows grow in Cal's picture just before the baby was born, and The Three Blobs appeared for real after The Baby was born, which makes sense since the baby summoned her three friends.  Adrian didn't realize The Three Shadow Blobs simply wanted to thank him for helping to save their friend.  Cal is fearful of The Three Shadows because it's a manifestation of his sibling envy.  He's no longer the baby of the family.

This episode was better... maybe since it actually resolved a bunch of plot threads which had been dragged out.  Though you'd think they could have done a more explosive reveal if Ben realized himself that the other professor was an evil jerk.  And why did The Callings want Grace to "Open Her Eyes"... that professor's wife came up with the scheme to kill Zeke and frame Michaela.  You'd think giving Grace that storyline meant that maybe she would investigate this woman and find out something.

Jared's girlfriend should be grateful.  Her brother would be facing a murder charge.  Not to mention he was a menace to innocent people in public, so her enabling behavior threatened society.

So was the police captain pretending to be an X-er too?  Was that why she was being such a jerk to Michaela all season?

I guess the Captain had to at least have acted sympathetic to the X-ers so they didn’t have her fall down a manhole and get replaced.
I bet whoever wrote for the police captain has been watching the reruns of Cagney and Lacey that have been airing on Start TV  (as I too have been). The personality of the captain on this show is identical to that of the order-barking, gruff Lieutenant Samuels on Cagney and Lacey, except Samuels’ soft, sympathetic side is usually revealed once every episode, even if he’s not faking being on the wrong side.

Also, Jared, not for nothing, but saying "I just saved your life" is pretty fucking stupid when you could just as easily said, "Calm down, I'm undercover as an Xer. I'm trying to help." Hell, he could have told this to Michaela WEEKS ago. She's a freakin' cop, too, dude!

Michaela is kind of a blabber mouth. I don't think she plays poker very well either. Wasn't there a setup where she was undercover and she blew it?

And I doubt Jared wants to be bffs with Zeke. Heh.

Jared meeting Michaela out in the open at their "favorite spot" was pretty stupid as well.  At least have that be a more secluded place . I'm surprised Evil Math Professor didn't have goons following him after he changed their plans at the police precinct.

Ben better learn from the experience and learn to lock the door to his conspiracy room.

Called it! Yeah I have never been a big Jared fan, but even I thought him becoming a dirty cop/domestic terrorist over a broken heart was a bit too much, so I am glad to see that he (and the captain!) were undercover and not actually evil. Even though I guess this means more love triangle crap now that Jared isnt evil now, so...not excited about that one.

Oh no, its the smoke monsters annoying little brother, shadow monster! Here to be vague and weird and kind if creepy but not really to amount to much in the grand scheme of things!

Cal and Olive had a few nice sibling moments, its been so long since they shared the screen together I almost forgot about their whole twins separated by several years thing.

Jared's bartender girlfriend should be thanking him for keeping her brother from making the jump to murderer and terrorist, which would have certainly ended with him in jail for an extremely long time, if not for life. She might not have been directly involved with the Xers, but she sure knew what was going on at her bar and she was cool with it, so I cant exactly feel sorry for her finding out that her boyfriend had ulterior motives.

I'm super confused as to how Jared got away with just, in effect, letting her go, without anyone being suspicious.

With all that's going on here with the virus,  i haven't seen this episode and am watching it now.   Have to say,  Please STOP with the Jared reclamation project and the Adrian horror show. If Jared was undercover,  he sure was enjoying himself and had me fooled.

Was presented with a similar option,  though not the exact same sitch.  Father in hospital,  two brain surgeries,  he told me was tired and wanted to die.  DNR was placed,  but when you get THAT call,  there's no easy choice.  You make the call.  Ain't easy!

Lots of people would choose the baby, though, just like Grace did. (I would not, just saying.) I definitely see why Ben felt guilty and torn up. Grace told him explicitly to save the baby over her, and he went against her wishes. If she'd lived and the baby had died, Grace may have found that unforgivable.

Grace gave No thought to the needs of her other two children.  She’s their parent also and her job is to keep them safe too.  Their lives would  have been deeply damaged if she were to die and Ben had to raise them and deal with a premature infant by himself.
