Carlin and Evan: But Mostly Carlin!

I don't think Layla has ever exited a store empty handed and though many of her clothes are freebies, I don't think she's ever worn anything twice. Diapers for two kids is not cheap. Eating the bulk of their meals out adds up, even more so now when eating at McDonalds is no longer cheap. Carlin's Amazon habit likely costs a pretty penny. Evan's leather backpack to carry all his expensive editing/film equipment.

They spend money without a care in the world.

Yeah they spend a crap ton of money. Lunch and dinner is always fast food or restaurant meals. Daily Starbucks for two. Carlin gets her hair colored, the weekly nail salon visit, gas for all the back and forth to Nashville, the Target runs (although I suspect they don't really buy anything, they just film themselves in the store, hoping Target will bite), date nights, vacations, etc. Then factor in mortgage, utilities, homeowner's and auto insurance, cell phones and whatever they're doing for health insurance. If they're miraculously debt-free, then they're most definitely blowing nearly every dollar that comes in.

Diapers and other infant/child necessities. $$$$$$$$$. Do they have cable TV or similar? Streaming services? There’s also car maintenance and repair. They seem to put quite a few miles on their cars.

Five dollars here, five dollars there adds up fast. I wonder what their yearly output at Starbucks is.

A Pink Drink costs around 5 bucks for the Grande, the medium size.  If Carlin got one 3 times a week, that is almost $800 a year.  Just for her.  Not counting Evan's drink or Layla's or anything else.  Three times a week is probably an underestimate, though, based on how often she talks about it.

They've got a humongous TV, they've got to be paying for cable and/or streaming.

They couldn't have approved. His dad is a retired plumber, likely union as well. He earned his pension.

I expect Evan waited as long as possible to tell them.  I also expect he and Carlin glossed over it by telling his family how much they were making on their videos, using the proceeds from the height of her medical adventures as an example and carefully forgetting to mention that those weeks were outliers and they usually make around half of that amount.

I think Carlin has got to get the 5 day EEG and film the he** out of it in order to try to boost their income.  Then, we'll get Carlin, Evan and the kids playing in the snow in Minnesota for Christmas as she takes it on the road to the Mayo Clinic.

I agree with everything you said, except for the notion that it could be something rarely seen or difficult to pinpoint.  I only say this because I have been reading the medical mysteries on the NY Times website and there are some issues that have been through the mill so to speak with many well qualified specialists and by a rare stroke of luck, these people end up with just the right provider who can determine the issue.  Sometimes there is a treatment or a cure but not always.  So, while I have always thought some of Carlin's issues are in her head, so to  speak, but doesn't make them any less valid, such as the Conversion Disorder mentioned.  One of my friend's adult daughters has been having similar issues as Carlin, except for the "seizures" and she is in Boston and going to all those special specialists and her primary care dr. said he suspects long covid although she was the only one in her household who never tested positive when other members did.  Dr. said she probably had it once or twice.

You're right, there are some medical mysteries out there; things that are so uncommon, most doctors have never seen them or things that are incredibly difficult to pinpoint and diagnose.  However, there are also a lot of people who have physical symptoms that defy diagnosis, and people who use their physical symptoms for secondary gain.  Carlin is a girl who likes a lot of attention for herself, hence, the name of the thread, that doesn't mean she isn't experiencing something, just that she's playing it up more than most people might.  For example, her and her husband's insistence that she must have someone with her 24/7.  As others have noted, that is just not true for seizure disorders.

Remember Sanford and Son with Redd Foxx?  Anytime Fred Sanford was in a bind, he'd suddenly clutch his heart and tell everyone it was the 'big one' and call out to his late wife, 'Lizzy, I'm comin'!!' and all argumenta were forgotten and everyone was tending to him. Carlin may have a lot in common with Fred.

A lot of those hospitals can also provide video consults with folks at the big house.  I have a friend whose daughter, only 30, was diagnosed with a rare and lethal cancer.  Rare as in only maybe 1000 cases total in the literature.  She is getting care at a major university medical center but had a video consult with specialists at MD Anderson in Houston who were able to review her records, look at the biopsies and scans and confer with her oncology team to develop a game plan.  Vanderbilt probably has a collaborative relationship with at least one other major medical center that could provide a consult in Carlin's case but I expect she will opt for a road trip as well as as much additional testing as possible.

I saw the video of Layla getting her "mani." Evan commented that it was only $5.

Most places I've been they won't/don't do a full manicure on a child except by special request for perhaps being in a beauty pageant.  Even then it's still usually scaled back.

I have been blessed with two of those.  You won't catch me in an ER if I can avoid it.  It begins looking like an episode of House.

I hope Carlin gets an answer soon because I want the saga to have a conclusion and hopefully an effective enough treatment for the family to have a somewhat normal life.

They remind me of couples I knew when we were in our 20s where they had zero concept of budgeting and making a spending plan.  They're prime candidates for one of the TV shows showing all the mistakes and where they need to make changes.  I expect Carlin and Evan would do that and have no shame or hesitation putting it all out there.

Evan needs to start posting ads online, in the supermarket, word-of-mouthing through the church, that he is available for small electrical jobs, which homeowners I know always say are hard to get someone for.  When they do get someone they rarely take a check 🤑

But who would watch Carlin while Evan works? That girlfriend Christian must have other things to do at times.

Hopefully he's trained to do more complicated jobs. Or what was he doing in school for five years?

Yes, I would assume so. But unless someone has a smart home, household wiring isn't that complex. I once had the misery of having a six week long rewiring of a 3 room apartment because the %!#}\! electrician lied to my landlady and then turned up after his real job when he felt like it. I didn't trust the %!#}\! electrician and used a bunch of personal days, saw what he was doing. Even straightened out some of what the  %!#}\! electrician did. If I didn't murder someone at that time period, I can guarantee I never will.

Can't see lazy-ass Evan doing freelance electrical work. He and Dumbass #2 both seem to be waiting for fame and fortune to be dumped in their laps.

Would he be allowed to do jobs by himself without an accountability partner? What if a single woman wants to hire him? 😂

Just because he can do electrical work, doesn’t mean he’ll get hired. He’d need equipment, tools, insurance, etc..  I wouldn’t hire someone with his limited experience. It’s better to put in a few years under someone else, or a company, then try it solo first.

Frankly, I wouldn't hire someone with his shitty work ethic anyway.

Five years from now:

Employer: Why didn't you go to work as an electrician after you graduated?

Evan: Well, my wife and me had a YouTube channel, and we had to make videos and edit them and stuff. For our fans.

Employer: Your fans. So you made videos full-time?

Evan: No, about ten hours a week. But we had to go to Starbucks and Target and get our nails done too. And go out to eat. We didn't think we could do all that and me go to work too.

Employer: So you've given up your YouTube channel now?

Evan: No, we still have it. But we're not getting enough views to go on vacation as often as we want, so we thought I should get a job. Plus my dad told me to.

Employer: How often do you go on vacation?

Evan: At least every other month. But we'd like to go every month. Can I get about twelve weeks paid vacation a year?

Employer: Um. We'll think about that.

Evan: Hey, cool! Oh yeah, I know I said I could start next week, but my wife's little sister is getting married, so can I take vacation next week?

While I def feel bad for her and anyone who has a scary health issue like this, their handling of it is + their behavior before this is what makes me roll my eyes as she goes on about - he's worked soooo hard and now bc of me is career is on hold OMG. Carlin sweetie it was THIS YEAR [before health issues] when you staged a photo shoot at 6 am, perfect hair and makeup, BAWLING bc your sweetie had to go to school/apprenticeship and you'd be home alone. So really how supportive are you of his career? And btw IDK what your fundie parents told you, but this is what grown ups do - spend the day apart bc they have to work; it's not all gazing into your honey's eyes 24-7.

And if career REALLY mattered, there was really no time in the last 3 months that they could even have TRIED intermittent FMLA? They couldn't have tried to see if it worked with a nanny/Whit/her parents so he could work for a few weeks, even part time - before deciding NOPE it won't work?

And Evan are drs. REALLY saying see if you can extend your FMLA? Maybe drs. are saying she can't be alone or with the kids alone, ok fine, but no dr in their right mind is going to say ONLY HUSBAND can stay home. You're seeing drs. in freaking Knoxville not Beverly Hills - like they're used to people needing to pay the mortgage, and I doubt they see too many people that are so independently wealthy that leaving work is NBD.

FWIW I stopped watching their YTs permanently when Carlin had her crying emotional breakdown of - OMG we keep getting outbid, what if we don't get a house, Lord's will blah blah. Even then I was like morons - what goes up must come down, you shouldn't even be trying to buy in a market where houses are going for all cash, 50k over ask etc. But hey they HAD TO BUY ASAP lest Katie and Alyssa have houses and they don't. Well congrats on buying at the absolute peak of the market + I guarantee putting down no more than 3-10% [as he was just a student and their YT wasn't as big then], which means on top of the mortgage they also are paying mortgage insurance which you do for down payments under 20%.

Selling and moving to Nashville for his parents' help so he can work isn't even an option for a long time bc they're under water. PLUS they've used all their cash for this down payment - cue crying from Carlin re what if we never own a house [and Nashville is a pricier market, every type of house costs more than in Knox].

Aside from her medical issues, something seems wrong with her - whether anxiety, being raised to keep sweet/pray it away, being uneducated, hopping from wedding to 2 kids/house/husband gone 40 hrs/wk all in 3 yrs . . . .

Is gross immaturity a disease? If not, let's make it one and call it Stewart's disease.

I still don't think her medical issues are real in the sense that she has something physically wrong with her like epilepsy or something cardiac. Factitious disorder is my guess. Her "episodes" are too conveniently timed to be real.

Agree again. And there are people like Carlin who do have something - this does not mean I don’t think she is a malingerer of sorts. I do. And Evan is an enabler.  And she is a woman and we do know that even today women’s issues can be discounted. Again - not her fan - and slim chance. And they are still Dumbdumbs in every sense.

Someone somewhere in this myriad of doctors has to have asked her about covid. This isn't new information.

Maybe. And maybe they didn’t see this recent research. My friends daughter in Boston has seen a range of specialists as I said and finally her primary care Dr mentioned long Covid. And maybe that is the reason and the two nimwits are not telling their “fans” in order to keep the clicks coming. And is she really going to get the 5 day inpatient EEG?

Their only benefit is living in a low cost area. Their mortgage won't be that outrageous. I wonder what kind of down payment they had?

They bought the house for $310,000.  Even with a large down payment, which I doubt they had, that would be a pretty hefty mortgage. At least to me it is.

They went on and on how his family is "medical" and yet no one on that side of the family has told them to take asthma potato to a proper pediatrician?  One of the reasons I don't think they listen and do their own thing.  Medical advise be damned.

I was fired from a job long ago and still received unemployment.  But that was a long time ago, I'm sure it has changed by now.  And with his "job" at BSB, and their propensity to lie, he could still try to apply and get it.

I mistakenly posted this over in the Duggar threads.

I just watched the seizure part of the video. They're outside and while Evan is tending to Carlin, someone behind him is filming, someone on the other side of Carlin is just standing there (possibly filming too?) and Layla is standing near Carlin's head. At one (edited) point a messenger type bag appears under Carlin's head. Toward the end someone out of the shot pushes Carlin onto her side. It doesn't show Carlin coming to.

Also Evan said he caught her, but doesn't say where Zade and Layla were when it happened, but we know at least Layla was there. Maybe it was heavily edited but it all seems too neat and clean and quiet. Where are the bystanders? Car noises, or ANY outside noises?

And, I wanted to add, Carlin must have a great phone case as it didn't appear to get damaged during the fall.

It has always depended on why someone is fired.  If it's for cause like not showing up, the person doesn't get unemployment.  If it's for cutbacks or abolishing positions, the person usually does.

The terminology used in my state is quit/resigned, laid-off and fired/terminated. Its rare for anyone to receive unemployment after quitting or being fired because we are an at will state, but it can happen if the employee shows they had to quit or they shouldn't have been fired. Being laid-off is the only straight forward way to receive payments.

Was Evan fired or quit? Or is it possible to be/do both? But IMO, not showing up to work is quitting.

There are long COVID clinics being organized by teaching hospitals all over the country.  The CDC has recognized it and provided information.  They don't include seizures, but do state that their lists are only of the most commonly seen symptoms.  They also point out that long COVID is far more common in those who were not vaccinated prior to contracting COVID which certainly includes Carlin.

Vanderbilt, where Carlin has been seen on multiple occasions, has a long COVID clinic.  I wonder if Carlin would be resistant to that diagnosis, though, since COVID was no big deal, no worse that the flu, no masks or social distancing and no need for vaccination.  I don't think she'd handle it well if she discovered that some of her own behavior contributed to the situation. Although, whatever her diagnosis, I think many of us would agree that her lifestyle, at the very least, hasn't helped and may well have exacerbated her problems.

As a gynecologist, I can tell you the menstrual issues are real and I probably see a couple of people a week whose periods are screwed up post-COVID.  Thus far, they all seem to return to their pre-COVID cycle after a few months.

I woke up this morning thinking about this very topic. If Carlin's symptoms are a result of long Covid, she will be in denial that her disdain for the seriousness of Covid could be the cause. Most likely she'll blame the devil and if she starts feeling better, she'll go on a tour crediting the Lord for her miraculous cure. The Lord will then probably lay a burden on Evan's heart to continue their You Tube "ministry".  🙄
