S12.E05: Not So Model Behavior
UsernameFatigue replied to OnceSane's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
I thought Sonja's age was around 55, so was shocked that she was actually stating her real age. Sure enough, Sonja was 55 when this was filmed, she turned 56 in November. As much as Sonja can annoy, I loved it when she put on the outfit that she had given Leah to wear. Even Leah admitted that you can't stay mad an Sonja for long. I had never heard of the woman (but then I am not into "fashion") who had the first fashion show. I did think it was interesting that at the end most of the audience didn't stand up, save for the howives and those close by when Ramona (I think it was) ordered everyone to stand. Don't designers normally getting standing Os just as a matter of course? -

I thought that Sonja missed an opportunity to revive the toaster oven line. She could have had the models walk down the runway holding the toaster oven boxes. Did we actually ever see an oven, or just the boxes? So Dorinda bashes John at every turn, doesn't want him to live with her, from what I remember doesn't even want him to stay over, yet thinks he should spend every night with her, and not go anywhere she doesn't want to go. Got it. A poster on last week's thread mentioned that John is actually quite accomplished, so I read an article on him. It was an interesting article on his background, how he got into the family business, and how much he has devoted to the business since then. From what I can see, he is way more accomplished than Dorinda. It was interesting hearing Leah describe her relationship with her ex (a partnership that is not at all unusual as much as she might think it is ) and then to actually see their interaction. From what I can see, he is the mature parent (no surprise) and appears to treat Leah as a second child that he needs to keep an eye on. I would imagine even more so after her stint at Ramona's. Her daughter must be so proud to see her mother buck naked and acting like a drunken fool. -
I thought Erika's voice was very pretty. I also enjoyed the few stints she did on the Young and the Restless, back when I was still watching it - she actually can act. She is certainly a heck of a lot more talented that Luann from RHoNY who is a terrible singer, but managed at least for a while to have a cabaret show. Interesting though, so far on this season which was filmed last fall Luann hasn't mentioned it at all. When Mauricio drinks or is stoned, he sounds just like Rocky Balboa to me. I keep waiting for him to start wailing for Adrian.

The thing I don't get about Sutton being so annoyed at not having assigned seating, was that she came with her boyfriend. It wasn't like she didn't have a significant other to sit beside. I almost smell producer shenanigans, since she ended up sitting beside "boring" Teddi, and not even with her boyfriend. Not sure what a stellar job Mauricio did looking after the one child he was in charge of, considering the kid was late for school several times. I think Kyle's love bean may actually be a "love been", as I don't see the connection between these two that I have in the past. Mauricio seems bored and disconnected.

LOL. Too funny. I deleted it upthread and have no idea how it even got posted. I was in the middle of posting, then when I hit submit I saw you had quoted me and wondered how that had happened when I hadn't yet posted. I wonder if I should try to contact Aaron to see how this could have happened. He seems= He seems to be up on conspiracy theories.....

I'll go with the positives first, since there are so few. I loved what we saw of Sutton's house, and her cat. I read that she has several, so am looking forward to seeing more of them as I am a cat person. I also thought she looked great in that blouse (loved it) and leggings. That is how she should dress for her shape - she looked so much slimmer than last week. The dress she wore to Kyle's party was just horrendous. Now to the dinner party. WTF was that? Sutton comes across as very insecure. I am not a baby person, but saying to Teddi what she did about her pregnancy was beyond rude. I am not sure how Teddi's pregnancy would be something that a part time howive would have to deal with. That was just obnoxious. Was Kyle trying to get Mauricio to sit beside her at the dinner? It appears as if he chose to sit as far away as possible. He also seems to be partaking (as Kyle would say) a lot, and it isn't a good look. How in hell has Aaron managed to hide the crazy all this time? He also looks like hell. Maybe dealing with his wife's affair at this point? Sorry Garcelle, but if all you've got is asking questions on camera about howives' sex lives, I hope you are a one and done. At this point I would take Sutton over Garcelle, as at least she has a gorgeous house and cats.

I have never minded Zach, but he really needs to grow up. He has been on a reality show for how many years now, and basically it is what pays for his house and lifestyle. So you didn't get to hear in private that your mother has gotten engaged to a man who treats her better than your father ever did? Boo f-ing hoo. Yes, it would have been nice if your father had treated your mother the way Chris does, but he didn't. I wonder how Zach will feel if and when his father proposes to his former mistress, the woman who broke up his parents' marriage? -
I googled Sutton as I wanted to see her ugly house/decor, but unfortunately since I don't live in the U.S. I could not access the video. However I think it was the Reality TV site where I saw an interview with Sutton where she claims that the reason she was not made a FT howife was because she cannot have her children on the show. (I think she alluded it was due to her divorce and her ex, ala Simon Barney). Yeh, because that is why fans tune in - to see the spoiled spawn of the howives. Lets see, just on this franchise, how often do we see kids? Dorito's - not often which is already too often; Rinna - not often which is already too often; Erica - never as he is an adult with too much common sense to be on the show; Kyle - likely the most with Portia, which is definitely too often; Denise and Teddi - once in awhile, but again too often even at that. Sorry Sutton, you aren't FT because you just aren't that interesting. Or rich, since your net worth is reported at 2 million. Though the newbie is hardly rolling in it, since she is moving into a tract house where she could easily spit on her neighbours from her house if she was so inclined. I can't say that I really care where the howives live, as I have always assumed that BH itself is pretty small, so most if not all howives live somewhere else. I took the name to mean they are rich, but that doesn't seem to be a requirement. LVP likely had the nicest property in the last few years, and it wasn't in BH. I do like Rinna's property, and Kyle's house though not the decor. I also liked Eileen D's when she was on. But Denise's and new gal's homes are just depressing. Not much better than Gina in OC, living in her casita.

I am not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that Rios was the killer. I have forgotten already, but wasn't there a reason why they never looked at the killing possibly happening before the time that Stephen ended his shift and was on the roof with the fellow cops? There must have been a reason that the prosecution stuck to a very narrow window of time, when it actually did raise reasonable doubt if the jury wanted to go in that direction. I remember the coroner saying the murder was just before dawn but I can't remember why she said that. I have no problem believing that Jesse didn't wash his sheets. I remember a case from a couple of years ago when a 20s something young woman was murdered. There was semen from at least three different guys - but I think it was actually 4 - was found on her sheets. And Jesse had DNA from two different guys under his fingernails. Also when Steven was left guarding the body, why would he not make sure there was no evidence left on the body? Not sure how hard it might have been to see the hairs, but why not take advantage of guarding the body? Also I thought they said the hairs were on his chest, not on his neck? I do remember the first time this case was covered, vaguely, but don't remember the retrial part. In any case I can't find any more info regarding the trial which may have convinced my beyond a reasonable doubt that Rios was the killer.

Elyse may have had the best line I have ever heard on this show, when she said that if this group was in therapy together, the therapist would commit suicide. And the best/worst scene on this show ever for me was Sonja on the john, Leah holding onto her thighs, and Sonja waving at Leah the toilet paper that she had just held to her crotch. Just when you think I've seen everything, turns out I haven't. Speaking of seeing everything, I have to thank Dorinda for covering up Leah's deflated boobs. I actually liked Dorinda in this epi, and thought Ramona was mean for continuing to make accusations about John. When she listed off all the things that John wasn't (assuming she is comparing him Mario) all I could think was that at least John hasn't left Dorinda for a woman half her age. I am not even shocked that Ramona left her own house full of company to go to another party. So Ramona. And why was Lu staying there in the first place when she only lives 10 minutes away? I would stay in my own home any day rather than someone else's, if I lived that close. I don't care what bedroom you might give me, I'd rather be in my own bed.

Lol. The only reason I know what Yacht Rock is that is was (maybe still is - not sure) the name of a satellite radio station. The guy would come on in a snobby bored rich guy's voice and announce the name of the station. So sorry Sutton, you don't have to be on a yacht to hear yacht rock (which on the station was soft rock from the 70s and 80s), just have satellite radio. Much cheaper than a yacht. And without the insufferable snobs like Sutton.

I am confused about Sutton's sign regarding her store. Under the name Sutton is says Est. 1971. Is she trying to make it look like her store is some long established, successful store that has been around for decades? Does she not know what Est. means? It isn't even her birth year (not that that would make any sense either) as it appears she was born in 1970. When I googled to look up her birth year I also came across her height (5'6'' - possible) weight (120 lbs - not likely - lol) and net worth - $ 2 million. Two million? I thought she was supposed to be loaded? In BH and surrounding areas, I don't know that that would even qualify as middle class. Not impressed by anything about her at this point. Speaking of not impressed, one of the reasons I watch the RH franchises (only watch BH, OC and NY) is house porn. So I am not impressed by the new gal's new digs - a basic house that could be anywhere USA (or Canada for that matter since that is where I live). And Denise's rental may be on 2 acres in Malibu, but the house is a decades old looking cookie cutter suburban tract house. So disappointing. Its like watching Sonya and Dorinda in their shoe box sized apartments and being glad that I live where I live. I love the softer, more emotional Erica. And I liked the scenes with Erica and Tom - they obviously have a lot of love and affection for each other after 20 years of marriage, so good on them. I agree with a poster above that I think Teddi sent the invitation to the retreat because it is something she needs to do, but likely doesn't really care who comes. I belong to a group of ladies who meet every couple of months and we rotate hosting duties. I hate entertaining (I always say that my home is where I go to get away from people) so I am actually happy when there are some that can't make it - the less the merrier. I love these women, but entertaining is not my thing - I stress about what to serve, if people are comfortable, etc. I would imagine Teddi is the same from what we have seen.

Eh. I have a hard time feeling sorry for Denise. Brandi to me is a female version of Charlie Sheen. As the saying goes, if you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas. (My apologies to dogs everywhere for comparing them to either Charlie or Brandi).

How hilarious that Matt's auction only had 30 or so people attend. I didn't really understand why he had an auction rather than just a yard sale. (Other than greed if he thought there would be bidding wars over his junk). I would imagine people would much rather come and look and buy at their leisure, than have to wait around for whatever item they might be interested in. I think he would have had a better turn out if he had gone that route. Loved Chris's proposal, and how happy Amy is. And the ring is beautiful - not my taste as I like traditional round stones, but good on Chris for picking a stone that would be meaningful to Amy. And to pick the diamond and then have it set makes it even more special. I enjoyed all the scenes in this episode, including Amy's with her girlfriends who are always so supportive, and the bantering between Zack and Tori. The show is so much better without Jer and Auj. -
I know Denise's history regarding looking after Charlie's twins for a period of time. I actually liked Denise when she first came on the show last year, but I liked her less as time went on. If the rumours about Brandy are true and during her marriage to Aaron, she had only been married for a year at the start of filming. Why bother getting married if your vows mean so little? I know this is BH, but still. Sheesh.
-
Well, that was interesting. I didn't miss LVP one iota, and I loved the name of the episode. I am glad though that Sutton is not a regular cast mate. Why trade one insufferable snob for another? And that pink outfit she was modeling for Rinna? OMFG! She looked like a Pepto Bismol bottle, round and stubby. Not a good look. I thought Kyle's line looked like a bunch of clothes on the discount rack at Winners. I swear I have seen several of those prints there. I did like the robe that Rinna modeled, and thought she did the best job. Dorito was good as well, and I liked Teddi's walk just because I give her props for doing it in the first place. Also Erika's dress at the dinner that failed to cover her rear was a hoot. I think I read something briefly about Denise and Brandy, but thought it was just a rumour. Interesting that Denise stopped taping in December. I feel sorry for Aaron, who Denise seems to have married to have a live in babysitter for her kids.

I think we are basically saying the same thing. You wrote in your first post that the writers didn't understand what not having money was like, otherwise they would not write this drivel about Darlene and Ben wanting a baby despite having no real jobs and Darlene and her kids living with Dan. I wrote that the writers show a family continually making bad decisions. Which is not entertaining in the least. I totally, 100 percent agree with what I have bolded of your last post. The writers are tone deaf that this storyline is not entertaining, and in fact is lazy writing. Many of us have written posts in previous episode threads that the whole storyline is insulting. The idea that women of any and all ages want a baby, no matter their circumstances, that they may already have children, their age, etc. It isn't true to real life (though there are certainly people who irresponsibly have children) and it is an insult to the viewers that the writers cannot come up with anything more original.
-
I don't think the problem is that the writers don't understand what it is like to be without money. The whole premise of the show is a family that is always struggling. In fact Dan now has two of his three kids and their kids living in his house because they cannot afford to live on their own. The writers are showing a family who continually makes bad choices. My problem is that it is not entertaining. As a poster wrote, Darlene wasn't this stupid as a teenager. I thought Ben started off as a promising character, but he has now become just another person who makes bad decisions and appears to have little interest in making good ones. I wonder how Louise will deal with the family, given that she already told Dan that he was (to paraphrase) too easy on his kids to let them all live with him. BTW, does Dan even know of Darlene and Ben's plan? I might add that I know plenty of people who cannot afford to have kids, but have them anyway. And keep having them. I worked with a woman whose husband didn't work, they lived in the basement of his retired parents' home (which was in a gated seniors community) and had three children during the time they lived there. The parents finally kicked them out, at which time they split up because they were both cheating on each other. Lots of stupid people in this world making bad decision after bad decision. I just don't find it entertaining, IRL or on my TV.

I have seen something similar posted before. I am not on Instagram or Twitter, so have no idea what Maddie is posting. Could you elaborate? One would think that if she did it once she might be joking, but it sounds like something she has done regularly? I can't even imagine..... -
S12.E02: Stooping to a Lower Level

I find it hard to believe that Luann is not familiar with the layout of Ramona's house. Ramona had the house before RHoNY, and they have both been on the show since the first season, a dozen years ago. I don't believe that Luann did not know that the private, quiet bedroom with its own entrance was the one in the basement. I not only think this was producer driven, I think Lu and Ramona were both in on it as a plot line,. That said, it was an ugly bedroom/area, and I would have hated it too. I have never been a fan of Ramona's house. Too big, cold and impersonal for me. I much prefer Lu's Sag Harbor house. Beautiful setting on the water, and I love the size and style. I don't care for her upstate house though. WTF does Dorinda need a housekeeper for, in an apartment the size of a shoebox? I thought Carole lived in a small apartment, but as much as I disliked her style, at least the apartment itself had some character. Dorinda's is just depressing, Did she actually buy it or is she renting? Her put downs of John, because he has never been married or had kids are just stupid. He has had a very successful business for years. Dorinda raised one child who is now in her mid 20s. She is no longer married, and there is a 50/50 chance that if Richard were still alive, they would be divorced now. You aren't all that Dorinda, and neither is your life. Not sure what is keeping you so busy, but it isn't being married, raising a child, or even running a business which at least John is doing. -

I enjoyed this episode, likely because there was little of Matt and Caryn. I loved that they showed Chris getting the diamond he chose for Amy getting set into a ring. And that he picked heart shaped because she always looks for heart shape stones on their travels. Very sweet. Chris and Amy remind me very much of my husband and me. He is very easy going and an eternal optimist. I am more up and down, and a pessimist. Though I prefer to think of it as a realist. We balance each other out quite well, as sometimes pessimists need to see the sunny side, and sometimes optimists need to be brought back down to earth. And like Chris and Amy, we share the same sense of humour and keep each other laughing through thick and thin. I am not a huge kid person, but Jackson is adorable. I also love what Tori and Zack did with their backyard - I would have taken out the pool, too. -
I can't access the People episodes to see if they have actual on camera interviews from the people in their articles, but I would assume so. Otherwise it would be a pretty boring show. But there are certainly others who are able to have well rounded, interesting episodes including interviews, On the Case with Paula Zahn comes to mind. She has just finished her 19th season. I think Dateline often is just lazy, or maybe lacking in the funds to find and research good stories. In any case I am often disappointed in their episodes, also due to their penchant for leaving out pertinent information.
