  1. Looks like we'll be getting somebody winning the whole thing. Thirty-eight competitors completing Stage One . . . we might get a record number reaching Stage Three. Also, when I was poking around the cable listings, I saw that the finale will be three hours long. That's enough time for somebody to make the final stage. How is it that Meagan doesn't get as much hype as Kacy? She's the one that's made it to the Warped Wall twice, while Kacy biffed an early obstacle. Also . . . does anybody recall seeing the guy who finished the course, then cannonballed into the water? He seems new to me, And I'm hoping that Michael Stanger turned down a wild card, because he should have gotten one.

rwlevin . . . I know the feeling of foreboding. Part of me feels that Mets fans should be happy for a .500-plus season, which is more than most people expected from them. It's just . . . who knows if this team will be as good next year. Sure, they'll keep the pitchers and Wright, but the deadline acquisitions have been lightning in a bottle, giving hope to the fans of a moribund franchise. I'm trying not to hype things, but there's a part of me that wonders about the Mets going deep into October, possibly into November. ETA (9/7): Well. The Mets take a 3-0 lead, give up a grand slam, go down 5-3 . . . but they chip away at the Nationals' lead, the bullpen doesn't give up another run, and they wind up winning, 8-5. If this was before August, they would've been toast after the slam. Not today.

Just saw the Mets lose to the Marlins. Barring a Braves rally, the Mets will be four game ahead of the Nats going into their series. I napped through most of it, so I missed Stephen Matz's comeback, a well as his removal over a blister. Trying to think good thoughts going into Monday, but it's tough.
  4. I checked in at the beginning of the marathon. For those who missed it, here are the full opening credits . . .
  5. Anybody have a date for the "Four Doctors" finale? Apparently, Titan is veering away from the weekly schedule.
  6. Checking Toonami's Tumblr . . . here's a list of stuff from Dragon Con. Includes an "Intruder" miniseries, the debut of Parasyte, and the possibility that we won't have movies throughout December. Or maybe Dragonball Z Kai will remain on the schedule, and we'd get movies to fill the other three hours. ETA: I can see Toonami running One Piece: Strong World in December. It's status quo is closer to the show's run than the more recent Z, which takes place after a timeskip.
  7. Bumping this thread up because [as] will be running the episode tomorrow night.

Bartolo Colon just pitched a complete game nine-hit shutout. He also had a fancy flip behind his back to get an out, which had the announcers and dugout in stitches. It should make the highlight reels on sports shows tonight, so be sure to look out for it. Only drawback was that the Mets didn't score after plating seven runs in the first two innings. And the ruckus over Matt Harvey's innings. And the Braves' inability to show up against the Nationals. Heck with it. Viva Colon!!!! ETA: I forgot to mention that Colon hasn't given up a run in his last 25 innings. Orel Hershiser probably isn't sweating over Bart, but it's an impressive stretch for a guy his age. ETA2: Bartolo made the top ten highlights on Sportscenter. He came in at #3, behind a small college football player's one handed TD catch and the BYU Hail Mary pass. Would a "Hail Mary" be ironic for a Mormon school?
  9. Good catch. I saw the Beekman Boys hawking their wares on a shopping channel. While I'm thinking about it . .. which Racers have done commercials? So far, I have Josh & Brent for Time-Warner, the Roller Derby Moms for Wal-Mart, and Amy Purdy for a car brand. I know, I know . . . she's known for her snowboarding and dancing, but I like to think her brief stint on TAR counts. ETA: I was thinking national.
  10. While we're waiting for a new episode next week . . . here are the full opening credits for AGK . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e23BunJcnlo
  11. I was poking around the New York Comic Con site. I looked through the literary guest list, and I found Judd. Apparently, he'll be coming that Friday. Also, I think his hairline receded to the point where he said "fudge it" and shaved his head.

Mets lose in 11 innings. At least they didn't make things boring in Miami. Dunno if you can pin the loss on the Daily News posting a cartoon of Terry Collins pulling a magic number-holding rabbit out of a hat, a la Davey Johnson in '86. Here's hoping the rabbit doesn't have to perform CPR on Terry.

Update: Domonic Brown suffered a concussion flipping over the side wall at Citi Field, and he might miss the rest of the season. Oh, and the highlight made it to #4 on Sportscenter's "Not Top Ten."
  14. Stupid question . . . is "Deidara" a common word or name in Japan? Here's a video of misheard anime lyrics; "Deidara" came up twice. As for the character himself . . . I'll be lazy and call him "Clay."
  15. Unless I'm mistaken, I think Krista is the first Staten Islander to run a "regular" race since Danielle & Danni in TAR9. Since she isn't seen dancing on a table and talking about how she's going to flirt to win, I'd say she made a good first impression. Here's hoping I can tell her apart from Tiffany.
  16. I'm hoping the logo is just for the commercials. On the other hand, these look to be interesting teams, and I'm hoping it won't turn into a clusterfuck like TAR26. ETA for anybody who has Discovery Family . . . they just ran the episode of Dogs 101 with the profile of Guido, as well as Joe & Bill. I would have said something earlier, but I thought he was a Rat Terrier, not a Smooth Fox Terrier. The ep is from October 2009 . . . it'll get rerun at 2 a.m.
  17. . . . and it turns out Peele can do a mean Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Anybody else feel cheated that this comes one week from the final episodes? I know that Neil probably wasn't on anyone's radar until he hosted Cosmos last year, but I figure he'd still be popular enough for the send-up. I don't watch Game of Thrones, but I enjoyed the valets. Here's hoping we get Obama and Luther one last time next week.
  18. What's the point of this show? Turns out a comedian will only need to perform four times at most. That's $62,500 per set for the winner. The competitors from American Ninja Warrior get more coverage than this crop of comics. Hell of a gig for Anthony, Keenan, Roseanne and the Colonel. May NBC put this show back six feet under, and may they never get the urge to dig it up yet again. ETA: Turns out Comedy Central will be running the last two episodes of Key & Peele next week. I'm thinking I'm going to DVR LCS and take my sweet time getting around to watching it.

Sign That This Might Be The Mets' Year: Ruben Tejada is at the plate with a runner on base. He smacks a 3-2 pitch to right field. Domonic Brown misplays the ball, and he flips over the side wall. By the time the Phillies gets the ball to the infield, Tejada slides in with an inside-the-park homer. Brown seemed to be okay, but he was taken out of the game a few innings later.
  20. Bumping up because I got a mailing from NYCC with Cinemax shows (Banshee and Outcast) representing. Also, the panel schedule will be up tomorrow. With the con taking place at least a month from now, I'd say it would be too early. Also, I made a three-day commitment to L.I. Who. It's my first Doctor Who con, and I'm looking to see if it'll be cool. Hopefully, Paul McGann will be the fourth Doctor that I'll meet face-to-face. ETA: I got my badge today (9/4). They're still using The Walking Dead on the badges. I got Michonne for four days.
  21. Anybody else catch the last episode? We reunite with a fit-looking Coby and Hel . .. Hem . . . the asshole who had Zoro strung up in, like, the second episode. I think more people remember his dad . . . friggin' Axe-Hand Morgan with the friggin' axe hand. Also: Marines are useful to have when you burst through a wall Kool-Aid Man style and you regret it. I don't think much has been made about Dragon going into this episode. The Straw Hats' reaction to Dragon being Luffy's father kinda pales in comparison to another character later in the anime. Also: yes, Smoker carried easy-to-access cigars with him at all times. Because Eiichiro Oda and Japanese culture, that's why.

Never thought about that. Also, I have memories of trying to get to a Yankees parade to write a story about it, and hearing chants of "1986!" To see the Mets win a Subway Series in October would be so sweet. Of course, there are other intriguing match-ups to be had at the World Series. Cardinals/Astros, for instance . . . the hackers versus the hacked. Or Cardinals/Royals, a rematch from 1985. How about Mets/Astros, two teams that entered MLB at the same time and had a pretty epic NLCS back in '86? For anybody who has never been to a minor league game . . . this is more of a "worst case" situation. Still cute, though. ETA:I think Niese needs an identity of his own. Harvey is "the Dark Knight" and there's Thor, Jacob deGrom is the "hair guy," and Bartolo Colon is the over-40 husky guy. What can Niese bring to the party?
  23. Just found this . . . Melissa weighs in on Kanye West.
  24. Good call on the Imperial Arms. If Night Raid keeps the weapons, they risk somebody finding their secret headquarters and gaining the advanced weaponry. I'm thinking destroying the Arms wouldn't be considered. Anybody else see "Red Eye Sword" and think of the Red Eyes Black Dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh!?
