  1. Bumping up . . . I'm not a theater person in general. I mean, I want to see The Book Of Mormon, but I'm a South Park fan since the beginning, and I don't think that counts. I'm saying this because I found out somebody not only made a musical based on Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, but it also won five Tonys. Has anybody else read the graphic novel? I DVRed Late Night with Seth Meyers last night, and I saw his interview with Bechdel. I haven't seen the scene they arranged yet, and I'm somewhat afraid. I figure that the title of the book is supposed to be ironic, because the author's life was seldom fun. Tons of repression and tragedy to be had . . . and that seems like a bigger misfire than "Hey, wouldn't Spider-Man make a great musical?" And yet . . . five Tonys. I'm still taking out comic stuff from the library. I'm in the middle of Spider-Verse, which makes for an impressive hardcover covering most of the story and the tie-ins. ETA: I saw the scene . . . "I'm Changing My Major." Pretty poignant, but awkward as all hell. Sorry if I've veered too far off-topic.
  2. I know that I saw Shippuden when it was on Disney XD . . . but I forget when the show starts to pick up again. We get to see Tsunade go Mama Bear about the Leaf Village. We get more Asuma flashbacks. We see the two Akatsuki guys snapping at each other. And we get a debate about ramen noodles, with Naruto wanting his signature dish and being unable to get it. It gets to a point where Kakashi tells Naruto that he wants to show him something, and my mind goes to weird places other than the Rasengan, ETA: Almost forgot . .. Sakura can't make edible "food pills" to save her life. Did Sai leave a note of apology when he ran off after tasting one?

I usually find out about Mets clusterfucks after they happen. Losing a 7-1 lead, including blowing a 7-5 edge in the ninth, followed by a second rain delay? Sure . . . why not? Out of curiosity, do any of you guys have sports-specific TV channels? The Mets have SNY, and they ran a few "yearbooks" during the delay. They had a retrospective from 1977, with 70s hair in force (including manager Joe Torre). Then they went to 1984, with Dwight Gooden's emergence. It's hard not to be melancholy thinking abut the Mets in the Eighties, given all the untapped potential. They had the best record from 1984-90, but they only got one World Series title.
  4. Great timing . . . after Jon Stewart went an entire segment without saying a word on Monday, seeing Peele's barbarian try to draw accolades with a severed head was funny. Also, I wonder how many people were deked out by the car commercial in the "TeachCenter" bit.
  5. I liked Andy, but I can understand if she bugs to some people. I like quirky. I paid money to see Maria Bamford live, and that's the parallel I choose to draw. I also dug Sammy Obeid, mostly because I have a math degree too. I hope he has more material up his sleeve, or he'll be sunk in the semis. It still seems like Norm is on something, and I don't think it's an act. Jeselnik was okay this week. Still can't believe he's hosting. Look up his material . . . that guy can get dark really quickly.

Mets lose, 7-3. Their runs were provided by three Lucas Duda solo homers. Is there such a thing as being "too Mets"? Because I think that qualifies. Maybe dealing one of the young guns for a hitter is the way to go. Seriously, I think the Mets are jinxed, albeit on a lower tier than, say, the Cubs. Sure, they got two championships, but one came in a year where anything could and did happen (1969), and the other was superseded by the Red Sox's curse (1986). ETA: And now the deal might not be happening. Sure . . . why not?

Rough night for Mets fans. Padres are up 6-1, and Bartolo Colon got taken out before he could get a chance to hit. ETA: I flipped back to the game . . . the announcer said Wilmer Flores and Zach Wheeler have been dealt to the Brewers. Why? Yeah, Wheeler is inactive due to Tommy John surgery, but why break up the young pack of pitchers? And why would the Brewers want a pitcher who won't be throwing until mid-2016?
  8. Anybody else see today's episode? It's about the proper way to celebrate New Year's Eve, but damn, it wound up being dark as Raven's navel.
  9. One of the comic shops I frequent has Inside Out blind-item figures on sale for $7.99. I got one . . .turned out to be the movie's MLP substitute. And I was hoping for Anger. Oh well.. ETA: Here's an article on the figures before the movie came out.
  10. Another bit from AVClub: an essay on the show's longevity.

Almost like Will Ferrell admiring his dog in Anchorman. "You got banned from baseball? Two weeks after you came back from being banned? Wow . . . . I'm not even mad. I'm almost impressed." The scariness of a deGrom/Harvey/Thor rotation in the playoffs would be overshadowed by the Mets' dismal performance on the road. I can't see them getting the two-seed. They get the three-seed or the wild card.
  12. Probably just friendly jabbing. I'm somewhat amused that Slade wasn't brought out. I remember the old days of TT, with his massive icky crush on Robin. Good times. Also: you gotta love Starfire's reactions to clowns.

Noah Syndergaard is perfect through six innings. I tell my mother. Top of the seventh comes up, I'm telling her which channel to turn to. *THWACK!* "Never mind." An eight-inning gem from Thor . .. but man, a perfect game would've been nuts. ETA: What did Jose Reyes do to get traded to Colorado? If only Fred Wilpon had seen the Ponzi scheme coming . .. Reyes would still be in Flushing. ETA2: One of the setup men got a year's ban for PEDs. That would be bad enough, except he just came off an 81-game ban. At what point does somebody break down and hit him in the face with a phone book?
  14. Bumping up to ask a general question . . . in regards to the Invisible Ladder, does anybody else get the vibe of climbing down on two vines in Donkey Kong Jr?
  15. Thank you, Sam Sann. Thanks to Kacy wiping out in the prelims, you gave Matt & Akbar the release they so desperately needed. Too bad the teaser gave away Sam's epic run. That, and the "Pom Wonderful Run Of The Night" wasn't awarded yet. Still, it was one helluva run. Damn, who needs competitors with attitudes when you have killer obstacles like Walking Bar and Crazy Cliffhanger? Those are the real villains of the show. I wasn't cringing when 5-foot-nothing Kacy was in the booth, but I can understand why others would tire of her. At least she wouldn't endanger herself climbing up a massive obstacle to be with her loved one, Brent. Before I forget . . . did the Human Panther get minimalized? I remember him qualifying in the prelims.
  16. Thanks for the reminder, GaryE. I set it up on my DVR for tomorrow in case I forget about it. I figure Raven is the most powerful Titan, even if she's been turned into Witchy Jean Grey most of the time. Beast Boy may have a variety of forms to take, but his weakness can be found between his ears.
  17. Question: Are we ready to live in any world where Jerry isn't a buttmonkey all the time? Good episode. Nice use of the time-splitting gimmick. One problem . . . I didn't notice Key & Peele were in the episode until the credits rolled. Were they the 4-D testicle monsters?

Mets wind up splitting the series . . . and after losing the first two games against the Dodgers, I'd say they were fortunate. One new guy went 4-for-4 last night, and Juan Uribe got the walk-out hit today. Sure, a save was blown in the ninth, but things might be looking up for the Mets . . . which is usually the time where something bad happens.
  19. Luffy makes a comeback, and he beats Rob Lucci. Meanwhile, it gets to the point where the Navy throws (non-canon) Devil Fruit guys at the Straw Hats . . . and a fella winds up rusting one of Zoro's swords to dust. Replacing the sword will happen next season, in the Thriller Bark arc. Still have no clue as to what Sanji is doing. I think he's going to mess around with bridge controls.
  20. One good thing about anime . . . with the right show, you can get screencaps and make posters in no time flat. Here's Mako from Kill la Kill:
  21. What Mako lacks in brains, she makes up for in guts. Oh, and she's wearing a Goku Uniform, not a kamui. [/nitpick] Man, there is a lot to process. Short story: the good guys (and gals) win an important battle, but then Ragyo and Nui hijack the end credits and make threats that will be backed up in the next episode. In other news, Ragyo sews up some new arms for Nui, and Uzu gets his eyes unstitched. And more croquettes with "mystery meat" are consumed. ETA: While looking up screencaps for a motivational poster, I noticed that next week's episode will be the last. I'll say this much . . . at least the anime hasn't been dull.
  22. In case you haven't hit the media thread yet . . . this is the last season of Key & Peele. Insert sad a cappella ending noise here.

King of Birds . . . I take it you wouldn't be happy to find out the bobblehead will be given away during a Red Sox/Mets game? Is that insult to injury? ETA: Found out about Hammels about an hour ago. Nice silver lining to a dismal season. ETA2: Mets win, 15-2. Only down note was Rollins homering yet again . . .but who cares?!? The new guys produced, and it turns out Kelly Johnson's at-bat music Is "Intergalactic" from Beastie Boys, which is awesome.
  24. Found this through AVClub: Donald Trump or Frank Reynolds? Coming soon: Trump's illegitimate bang-maid child, Trumpquito.

Currently watching the Mets being down 6-2. I just saw a promo for a Jesse Orosco bobblehead, where he's on his knees after striking out Marty Barrett to win the 1986 World Series. I might have to go to that game in late August. ETA: aaaaaaand Jimmy Rollins just hit another homer. Lucky he's with the Dodgers now, and the Mets only have to deal with him twice a year. Also: here's the Jesse bobblehead.
