If Mykelti didn't want to talk about what went on between her and Robyn, why did she then talk about it enough to get tongues wagging? Either spill it or say nothing. She didn't have to answer the question. That said, she was Robyn's staunchest defender. It must have been bad to turn her against Robyn.

A lot of great observations so far. Some things I noticed: All three rings now fall off. Kody was really put out when he found out that Ysabel had moved to Utah from the producers. I was surprised he exercised enough self-control not to say anything about Maddie. This was likely filmed sometime in early 2023, so I'm surprised he wasn't still letting loose calling her names like he did the rest of the kids. The hostility from all of them was palpable. It was jarring after seeing the tell all and the talk backs that were filmed around July and maybe fall of 2023 where everyone seemed to be more moderate in their statements. Christine was a real mean girl when she said Meri wasn't invited to the sprinkle. If I were Meri I would have been fine with that. If you want nothing to do with me, you don't need to hit me up for a gift for your latest grandchildren. Loved Janelle saying that she's just done with Kody and doesn't even miss him. That was awesome. Christine still needed to mind her own business about Janelle's choices. If Janelle wanted to make another go of it with Kody, that has nothing to do with Christine. I think she's right to walk away, but it's her choice. Wow, what went on between Kody and Maddie? As I said above, he refused to say anything and the only thing we heard was from Janelle. I appreciate that Maddie doesn't want her children going through what she did with Kody being around when it was convenient for him. I also wonder if she and Ysabel talked and bonded over the fact that he didn't show up for Evie's surgery either. I think that took place before the pandemic, so he didn't have that excuse. I love the new Meri telling it like it is. And just not giving a flip what anyone even the producers think. Good for her. She stuffed down her feelings for so long to try and please Kody while he treated her like dirt. And Sobbyn whining yet again about how she misses Meri is her usual hypocrisy. Meri made it clear that she would try to make plans with Robyn and get ghosted for her trouble. I hope Meri spills some great stuff. I also loved her with that sweet dog. I have cats myself, but that dog cuddling up with Meri when he saw she was upset was so sweet. She can't be all bad if dogs like her. And her snark on Robyn's age was gold. I do hope they pick up the pace. They are a full two years behind and I don't want to watch the same endless conversations over and over again. Get on with it already. Finally, in the previews, did Kody just come from the disco to do his couch interview? I haven't seen a guy dressed in a shirt like that since the 70s.

Carlin and Evan: But Mostly Carlin!
Meow Mix replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Bringing Up Bates
I agree that if all you're doing is putting, the ball shouldn't stray too far away. But Evan's an idiot, so I could see him whacking balls around. Given all the golfing he does, he should be good enough to not land his putts in the pool, but who knows. -

I looked at the pictures of their backyard and have questions. How big is that yard? They have crammed so much in there, I can't believe anything is left that isn't covered by the pool, hot tub, putting green (?) and swing set. Where does the dog do his or her business? Why a putting green? That seems like a recipe for stray balls going into the pool, through windows, or into neighbors yards. Why is the water in their hot tub red? It looks like a horror movie. I wouldn't want to get in it. Plus, who cleans it? Bacteria city. These two don't realize that they have just tanked their resale value with all that mess. No one is going to want a yard like that. I've said before on here that my parents passed on a perfectly good house simply because it had a pool and they didn't want to deal with that. The back yard wasn't anywhere near the mess this one is and the pool didn't need major work. The house had been on the market a long time and I don't know how much longer it took to sell it. Cue tearful videos from Carlin when they go to sell praying that the Lord will send them a buyer. -
The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
Meow Mix replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
This is so accurate as I lived in Cleveland as a kid in the 70s. That outfit was everywhere. My dad worked for IBM, so would have never worn something like that to work, but he definitely had a white belt and shoes for more casual wear. I remember in college in the 80s using his leftover white shoe polish to polish up some white pumps I picked out of the garbage. Only needed white pumps for one outfit, so didn't want to spend money on any. -
Yeah personally, I would be mortified to participate in something like this. I am not a counselor or a teacher, but I would not want my coworkers or my boss for that matter to see me engaging in some of these activities.

Still doesn't narrow it down much. -
My feeling with the Plath kids and Olivia is that they are to a lesser or greater extent trying to find their way to adulthood, but they are having to do it on TV. Most of us were pretty insufferable in our early 20s to some extent, but only our circle of friends and family saw it. For all of them a bunch of strangers who only know what the producers show them are watching and commenting as though they know them. That's why I cut Olivia some slack. I hope she grows out of this overt navel gazing because it can be exhausting. But Ethan is firmly back in the cult and since he's a man, he will stay there. I suspect even a tradwife won't make him happy in the end because the only emotion he seems able to access is anger. Seeing him on this episode, he was always scowling with his arms folded and grunting out single word answers to everything. Except when he was hungry and expected some woman to cook him something. I turned it off when they showed a preview of him and Moriah singing because my ears didn't deserve that. I have believed from the beginning that Kim cheated with Ken. She was involved with him before she asked Barry for a divorce for sure. I feel bad for Isaac because he must feel pretty conflicted about the situation. He has to associate with Ken and if he wants access to that plane he's paying for, he'd better accept him. Kim's behavior toward Barry was childish, both at breakfast and over the bedroom. I love how she referred to the room as her room. She is so selfish.

That room with the wallpapered ceiling is hideous. When she eventually goes to sell that place after Glenn's passing that is going to put buyers off. She's probably not going to get the financial windfall she thinks she is going to get. Regarding Tal, I would suspect he had to discuss all of this with his employer and HR before the storyline could be shown on TV. My experience with stuff like that is that employers will give you some leeway as long as their name isn't mentioned. I'm not sure if he has his employer listed anywhere on social media. I'm sure the Reddit sleuths would find it if he does. As far as taking a trip in the middle of FMLA, if it was planned so far in advance they may go for it or tell him he has to take that as paid vacation rather than FMLA time. Now I do think Tal's situation is real. Whitney's response to it was disgusting. When someone says that they are doing therapy once a week the correct response is not "Me too!" The correct response is "I hope everything works out" or even "how can I help?" And regarding the trip, the correct response is not "Wahh, it's my birthday!" The correct response is "We'll miss you if you can't go, but please take care of yourself first" I can't see Whitney saying any of that stuff. And as for her birthday, I spent my 40th birthday working because it fell on a weekday and I have a job. Not only could I not afford a fancy trip, but that day I had to stay extra late because our high level manager called a meeting to tell us that some people were going to be laid off. They already knew who they wanted to get rid of, but they weren't going to tell anyone for a couple weeks for reasons. But, we shouldn't get distracted. She needs to quit whining like a spoiled 5 year old. She gets a lot more than most people.

Here's what really annoys me about Chad and Erin. They both actually have skills that should have allowed them to take care of themselves financially. They aren't Jill and Dave Rodrigues who have nothing going for them and in the case of Dave are lazy besides. Erin's degree from Crown could get her a job either teaching music in a Christian school or even being the music director at a church. It wouldn't bring in huge money, but it would bring in something. And if she connected with a school, her kids could possibly go there for reduced or free tuition. Chad actually has carpentry skills and should be raking in the cash. He could have gone into custom furniture building and restoration and made a fortune. When they were in Tennessee, they were close enough for him to ply that trade in Asheville, NC where that kind of thing is in high demand. He could also have gotten his contractor's license and would have plenty of work. A former neighbor of mine has a contractor's license and he had more work than he could handle even during the pandemic. I don't understand what is so evil about getting properly licensed and insured that Chad won't do it. He's not lazy, he's just so deluded with cult thinking that he is wasting the potential that God gave him. He's sitting there waiting for God to drop everything he wants out of the sky while God is saying, I gave you the tools, go use them.

I concur with everyone else, Bri is a zealot who will be out-fundying Jill in no time. Jill has a lot to call out and given that Bri was not shy about screaming at her own father, she won't hold back on Jill. I have experience with a former co-irker who was a fundie who acted just like this. In the end, she went after our boss who happened to be Jewish and got removed from the project she was working on. As for Bri knowing 15 gay people, let alone knowing for certain that they were all pedophiles, I'm not buying that. I could see her assuming someone was gay based on stereotypes but not recognizing other people who were actually gay in her midst. And my questions to her would have been, if you were sure someone was a pedophile, why didn't you report them? I actually knew a guy at work who definitely was and the only reason I didn't report him was because one of the parents of a boy on the soccer team he coached had already done so and he was complaining that the cops had come to the motel room where he had taken the boy. I guarantee you Bri knows pedophiles in her church, but hasn't identified them because they are the straight family men. I want to go back to Jill's Hallmark movie rant for a minute because there's a lot about it that doesn't make sense. I have never heard of a divorce in a Hallmark movie. In fact, I would think Jill would love them because they are conservative propaganda. Women can't be fulfilled with anything other than marrying some small town guy who is the local possum vet and having a bunch of kids with him. She seemed to have a big issue with women breaking up with one guy to marry this ideal guy instead of sticking with the first guy they ever met. How does she square that with Renee supposedly breaking up with MM because he didn't meet her standards? Shouldn't she have stuck with him since God supposedly picked him out? Why wasn't the devil blamed for telling Renee that the grass was greener somewhere else?

Jana and Stephen: Slow and Steady Gets the Best Wedding
Meow Mix replied to ginger90's topic in Counting On
She looked good in every dress she tried. I'm glad she got the one she truly wanted and the salon helped with adjusting the top so that it worked for her. I thought the venue was really nice too. My only issue was the bride's area didn't look as comfortable as the groom's area. Maybe a TV and some of the other amenities are something women want too. -
the only other time I saw a mother daughter dance was when Christine from Sister Wives danced with one of her daughters at her wedding. It may be a thing now. I haven't been to any weddings in quite a while, so I don't know. I liked Whitney's blue dress. That style is very flattering on her. If it had been tailored correctly it would have been better, but at least it covered the bits and bobs and didn't cling in places you don't want your dress to cling. She may have originally had it hemmed with higher heels, but then didn't wear them. I learned that lesson after getting a dress hemmed for a cruise but wearing a lower heel because I didn't want to fall over when the ship was rocking. I wish Glenn would shut up about people getting married and having grandchildren. He already has three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Knock it off already. Agree wholeheartedly that Whitney needs to get some sort of job or hobby. As I said in another thread, the show has taken over her life and it is very unhealthy. Time to get back to true reality.

I think the issue with Micah and Veronica isn't that she looks odd, it's that they are so awkward and unconvincing together. She seems pretty to me, but the slouching and awkwardly trying to pretend they are in love just casts a strange aura over everything. When Micah talked about how he had dated around, I got a little hesitancy there. I wonder if he experimented with more than women and that freaked him out. There's just something off there. Oh and one more thing: Micah telling her she looked prettier without glasses made me want to smack him. I too wear glasses so I can see and men like Micah can just get over it. I wasn't surprised that Ethan felt the need to talk to his younger sisters about his divorce. That is one way fundie parents control the older children. They tell them that they are setting a bad example for their younger siblings and if the younger ones go astray, it's all the older child's fault. It's messed up. I have less sympathy for Ethan, though because of his trying to rewrite history over what he said to Olivia. He can claim all he wants what he meant, but what he said was pretty clear: women have certain roles that include cooking him three meals a day. Plus, he seems to have forgotten all the ways he made Olivia feel that he didn't care about her like ignoring her texts for weeks on end while he hid out working on cars. Olivia's sex ed session was just embarrassing. This seems to be a thing with reality shows right now like the old painting and drinking wine thing was a few years ago. I agree it was a sales party to sell vibrators. I wonder which of the "friends" was in the MLM or whatever it is. I was amused that the producers realized that they had to explain the presence of Micah's two "friends" at the party. I had forgotten that Olivia ever met them.

I wonder about this jury trial around the Plaths' divorce. It sounds like something a lawyer would propose as a way to make the other party take less in a settlement. Like, it Kim doesn't agree to what they propose, they will drag it through a jury trial and she might get much less. I am curious as to why Barry would need child support if he has full custody of the three youngest kids. I thought he had a well-paying job. Unless he quit that to be come a "TV star". I do wonder why Barry's lawyer hasn't hired a private detective to follow Kim. It would be easy to determine if she is really living on that boat with very little effort. My guess is she's not. When she has the girls, I wonder what is really going on. Nothing about that is palatable. If they are living on that boat, the girls have to use a public bathroom for showering among other things. If they are actually living with Ken, Kim is making them lie to Barry about what is going on. That's seedy for other reasons. And I will admit some personal bias that I won't get into here, but I don't trust Ken. Kim should be watching those girls around him carefully, but I doubt she is.

Wow, this episode made everyone look pretty bad. Olivia needs to learn that there is such a thing as oversharing. If she wants to sow some wild oats, she can knock herself out, but she needs to be safe about it. There's a lot of creeps out there and she needs to be less naive. Also, no one needs to hear about her one night stands. It's not cute and made her look immature. I genuinely hope she and Lydia Grace didn't actually go out in public in those cheap wigs. I hope they just filmed leaving for the producers, then turned around and got rid of those things. I could feel the competitive vibes between Kim and Barry right through the screen. I hope Barry gave Lydia a real gift and not just the joke gift of a shrubbery. I thought it was cute they had a little inside joke and the fact that it ticked off Kim was an added bonus. The violin Kim gave her must have been paid for by someone else because we have heard that Kim has such financial issues. I thought I heard her say it was from Nanna as well. So hopefully it wasn't from creepy Ken. And of course Kim's attention grabbing dunking booth was just odd. The Plaths are odd all the way around. They still seem like aliens trying to mimic human behavior to me. Speaking of odd, Barry relating Lydia's birth story was something else. There was a woman sitting next to Kim who looked like she wanted the ground to open up and swallow her. Sheesh. I noticed that Micah showed some annoyance with his girlfriend this episode. She had to work and didn't show up to the party. Since she's in real estate, Sunday is often a busy day, so I understood. But he was really bothered that she didn't show up to the family gathering. Finally, I feel bad for Lydia. I doubt she would have gotten even that sad party were it not for the show. Back before Micah and Moriah were pretending that their childhoods were perfect, they both said that the kids were never given parties for anything.

I wonder if this relationship will get to the marriage stage. I don't get the sense that this woman is going to want to put up with Micah the manchild for very long. He may be useful as a handyman/house mate for now, but over the long term, I just don't see it.

S12 Episode 8 - Who Let the Dogs Out
Meow Mix replied to Yeah No's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
At the beginning of this season, Whitney said she did the show to spread happiness and be an inspiration. As this season has worn on, all I see is endless complaining about not having a man or a child and refusing to leave the house. She takes over every event with her sad tale of woe about her life circumstances, but does nothing about it. This is not spreading happiness and it certainly isn't inspirational. Unless it's to inspire people to not sit around complaining like she does. The more I see, the more I believe that the show is the worst thing that has happened to her. Most decent guys are not going to want to be a part of such a public relationship. They have jobs and families and lives that they don't want plastered on TV. In addition, the show seems to have become her life. She seems to do nothing unless the cameras are on. Other than that she stays in her house getting everything delivered. She doesn't travel, volunteer, or have hobbies. She seems to only exist when the show is filming. It's sad and somewhat disturbing because when the show finally goes away, she is going to be truly lost. -
Getting religion in college is not that unusual especially if something traumatic happens like parents getting divorced or a death in the family. My concern is that if this is a phase, she may not figure it out until it is too late to get out. I hope her family stays in contact with her and can help her if she gets in too deep. I do worry for Philip. It sounds like someone Jill approves of has him in hand now. I suspect he is being brought back into the fold and having any questioning stamped out. That makes me sad, because I do think he had a bit more intelligence than the rest of the brood and was questioning what he was taught. He was trying to figure out who he is separate from his family and Mahmo can't have that. Given Jill's penchant for hijacking others events, it wouldn't surprise me if she turned Tim and Heidi's wedding reception into an engagement party for Sam and his girl. She definitely took over the Keller's anniversary party when you know she contributed nothing to the food or the venue costs. Regarding fall, i live more in the southeast and our neighborhood pool will stay open for a couple more weeks. It's usually warm enough to swim even after it is closed. I remember a few years back the temperature hit 100 in early October.

Jana and Stephen: Slow and Steady Gets the Best Wedding
Meow Mix replied to ginger90's topic in Counting On
One thing that stood out to me was that according to her, she and her sisters were staying n the guest room with Stephen there. I'm surprised JB went for that. They sure have come a long way from when they freaked out over Jill front hugging Derick at the airport before they were engaged. Given all of this, I suspect this engagement was in the works long before the official photos were taken. They weren't doing all this reno work while Jana was planning a wedding in two months.- 386 replies

S12 Episode 3- Everybody Have Fun Tonight
Meow Mix replied to BAForever's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
I do not need to see anyone get their pits shaved. Yuck. And why would Angie care? If Whit wants go out looking like that, it's on her. I wouldn't get near anyone's pits particularly not someone who is capable of taking care of them herself. As for Kenny suddenly not liking big girls, that whole thing was fake. We just have Whitney's word that he said that to her. Why would he ask her out on a "real date" (not the wedding) if he felt that way? The whole thing makes no sense. And the whole plus one thing was silly. I thought Whit was a modern woman. Why dd he have to ask her? Especially when he wasn't even invited to the wedding. Not sure Hunter's movie premiere was legit. It looked like they just rented out a small theater to play the scene for the show. I've said it before, but if the people storyboarding this mess think they can parlay this into getting work on scripted shows, they are delusional. I could write a more coherent story without even trying. -
Barry is a piece of work. He's just as bad as Kim, he is just better at hiding it. Once you have known someone like him (and I have) you can spot them a mile off. He's two-faced and calculating. Catch him smirking when talking about how the failure of the marriage was Olivia's problem. And Kim is fooling no one with her supposedly living on the boat. No way is that happening. If it was why would Ken be there every time she and Barry trade off the kids? And as much as I dislike Barry, he owes creepy Ken nothing.

I really wonder about Nathan and Jonathan's upbringing. If someone called me an outsider in my own home, they would find out what the outside looked like in a hurry. Like those dog food commercials where someone gets thrown out for complaining about dog food in the refrigerator. But Nathan does nothing and even treats Jill to more outings and gifts. As for Phillip, I wonder how he views the fact that his missionary dream is over. I just can't believe he is capable of connecting the dots to realize that his education was too poor for even the tiny Bible colleges he attended. Sadly, I think it has just fed into his persecution complex which fuels his ranting on street corners. I got a strong whiff of anger when he said those who don't love the Bible need to get their heads straight. He's scarier than Tim was at that age, and that is saying something.

Regarding the cake, Jill gets whatever is cheapest and everyone has to make do with whatever crumbs are left after Dave dips up. Speaking of which, I can't imagine a father looking at his malnourished kids and then proceeding to stuff his face regularly. Dave and Jill deserve each other. The kids deserve better.
