  1. Yeah, we tried to watch episode 4 last night and were surprised/disappointed. However, no way is this interesting enough to sign up for Premium Peacock. In general, I’ve found the Dan Brown books better than the movies made from them (had not read this one though).
  2. I was not a huge fan of the reveal at the end either. I also thought the one misstep the show made earlier was the introduction of the VIPs, who were poorly acted and tonally didn't seem to fit with the rest of the show. Maybe they have some resonance in Korea as symbols of exploitation by foreign countries, since they were all foreigners? I also thought the policeman's cell phone data might be a plot point in a season 2.
  3. Yes, you can turn them off. Since I suspect the Netflix interface is different depending on the device you access it from (computer, iphone/ipad, Roku, smart tv, etc.), I wouldn’t give specific steps, but it should be pretty easy. I thought I recently saw a message from Netflix that they were going to default to whatever subtitles or dubbing you usually use when watching their programs, unless you change it. Since I use subtitles a lot, I never noticed the difference. I have occasionally seen some odd language subtitles or dubbing pop up in Netflix and Amazon Prime.
  4. I would say Dr. Mercy seems a little reserved, even when she tries not to be. I agree there’s not the chemistry that we see on Pimple Popper, the British skin doctor show or the foot doctor show.
  5. These jammy biscuits had a ring of buttercream surrounding the jam. All the linzer tarts/cookies I’ve seen are just filled with jam. Plus the dough usually has ground almonds or hazelnuts in it.
  6. Also, as Paul pointed out, Amanda used much too delicate a biscuit to support all that weight. There’s a reason everyone uses gingerbread for these. Jurgen doing well reminds of a quote I saw years ago, that cooking is an art, and baking is for chemists. I’ve checked out midway through the last couple of seasons, I think mostly due to my dislike of the post BBC hosts, but so far I’m more interested in this one.
  7. Read an article in The Guardian about Mark Bonnar. Season 2 of Guilt is starting in the UK in two weeks. The article hints at a possibility of a season 3, too.
  8. Interestingly, we’ve noticed at least three different office locations shown for Dr. Brad since the show began.
  9. I’d defer to someone from the UK, but the internet tells me the song went pretty high on the UK charts, and the tune has been used by fans of a number of UK football clubs in various chants and songs. So probably not just a US thing.
  10. Imagine my shock when I tuned in today to the opening ceremonies of the Ryder Cup to find that the emcee of the event was ……..Rob Riggle.
  11. I think the characterization and interplay between McDonald and Dodds is well done, but the actual scripting of the episodes, especially in the second season could be better. There's a fine line between slyly comic and cartoonish, which I don't think the show always gets right. I particularly didn't care for the episode with the French rugby player and the girls weekend.
  12. Funny, I don't watch the show for more than 20-30 minutes a day, but I was thinking yesterday that the discussion fo the French submarines was the most interesting thing I've seen in a couple of years on the show.
  13. Agreed, and it would happen even if they kept the age limit at 18 or 21. It really doesn’t have anything to do with teens. It’s the success of the show that allowed competitors who once lived out of their cars to open gyms and make a living training kids.
  14. I would also add , maybe out of some ignorance of how this actually works, that putting someone under general anesthesia is something you do in a hospital setting with the assistance of an anesthesiologist, not in the back room of your clinic. And other medical facilities and doctors might be reluctant to be filmed for malpractice reasons and require some financial compensation as well. I guess it might be possible she does some procedures under general anesthesia, but those are not ones that end up on TV.

One thing I read in an interview with Rogers was that she said players (maybe just some of them) get “bonuses” related to their social media participation. I’m pretty ignorant of how endorsement deals work these days, but maybe it’s part of deals with sponsors? It could be a good chunk of income to someone like Rogers. In a different sport, I read earlier this year the PGA had a pool of money to be allocated to golfers based on their social media participation helping to promote the sport. Maybe there’s something like this in tennis?
  16. Weirdly, in this article, it says the seasons were not filmed consecutively, with season 4 filmed earlier this summer, around the premiere of this season. Tessitore and Riggle Interview

I would add on a slightly different note, that as much as I’ve enjoyed watching Fernandez play, I’m always bothered by players who intentionally try to rev up the crowd to get them on his/her side. I prefer competitors who focus on their play to get them crowd support.
  18. I agree about the difficulty, but starting with using a famous ex football player as host, I think the point of the show is to entertain average viewers who can play along at home, not challenge the knowledge of the competitors. it would be interesting to figure out how they picked these schools and contestants to begin with.
  19. She is good, but quite a bit more into treating skin conditions like acne and psoriasis than popping cysts and scooping lipomas. She’s been on for three (short) seasons, I think.
  20. At least they pushed to the commercial break the “talk over the offers with your teammates”, which was the most pointless part of the daytime show.
  21. If you haven’t seen it, there’s an episode of “Chef’s Table” on Netflix about Christina Tosi. It’s in the season labeled “Pastry”.
  22. Agree about toughening up her feet. I haven’t watched this show a lot lately, but I thought it odd that on two successive shows set in South Africa, the woman tapped out way early, apparently from the effects of drinking water, while the guys were OK with it. Or maybe there was another cause of the stomach problems?
  23. The point of going for the low offer is to try to ensure you get in the final chase so you that get a third or half of what your teammates earned vs. getting knocked out and having 100% of nothing.
  24. I thought it weird to rerun an episode when no other special event, like the Olympics, was conflicting with the show.
