  1. Question: Is it normal for US shows to have this many breaks? I'm really used to shows being quite short (anything between 3 and 12 episodes) so I'm not really used to weird short breaks in the middle of a series, and I can't think of any reason it could be positive for a show to have this many (or even any) breaks. We don't even really break up for Christmas here, you're more likely to have a series in the run up to Christmas, have it end just before, and then another one start on boxing day or new year.
  2. Sorry that was a joke, during the video he say that he doesn't block anyone except... then he says he doesn't know how to get rid of the porn or why it ends up on his timeline.
  3. I have mixed feelings about crowdfunding. Crowdfunding isn't really anything like an investment, it's just a bunch of people giving away free money essentially because they believe in a project. There's no guarantee that the project will even be made, or that they wont run out of money and come back asking for more, or that any of the people who gave money will even get the perks that they paid for. And with something as subjective as a film, the people who payed to get it made might really really hate it. Crowdfunding is essentially based around two values of goodwill and trust. People give money out of goodwill and trust that they will get something in return, but there's actually no accountability if they don't. They might be $5 out of pocket, they might be $2000 out of pocket and they wont get anything for that. Not even birthday cake. And like Apinknightmare said, there's not a lot of transparency in this, which is why I don't trust this at all. We don't even know how much money is going to what and the script hasn't even been written yet. We know the vague idea behind film, we sort of know a timeline (which probably isn't going to be stuck with because indie movie production timelines rarely are) and we know the cast. But that's not enough (imo) which is why I am side eyeing this a lot. If it's a risk people are willing to take with their money, fair play to them. But I will be critical of the people who are asking for the money, as I generally am with anyone asking for money.
  4. Half of which she spent talking to herself so I think we can forgive her for that...
  5. I think that's kind of the point though, they sold off all of their 'A-list' characters and they were stuck with B and C list characters that wouldn't draw in the crowds like Spider-Man or X-men would. It meant that they did have a bit more freedom with what they could do, just because people (particularly those who didn't read comics) wouldn't go in with as many expectations, but it also meant that in order to be successful (i.e. make more money) they had to put in a lot of effort into making the films good. They couldn't really fall back on well people will come and watch this because it's a big name (which they can do now, because of how successful Phase One was). I mean, every time I tell someone that I'm not going to watch BvS I get the response 'But it's Batman and Superman', which does go to show that it's very much the big name that's drawing a lot of people in (I am extrapolating from my own personal sphere admittedly). That's not to say that people don't expect a good film, just that the big draw is certainly not anything particularly unsuperficial (is that the right word? It's not even an actual word).
  6. Honestly I had no problem with her snarking and I didn't even think it was that bad? It is definitely a flaw in her character, and one that they need to address, but it is a part of Felicity and I think it would have been more out of character for her not to snark. She's upset, she hasn't been talking to anyone about the break up of the biggest relationship of her life, and she's come face to face once again with a woman who's entire villain MO is about love. The last time Felicity dealt with Cupid, she had her heart broken, and the same thing is happening again except a million times worse because she's actually tasted happiness and she still (sort of) has the opportunity to, but only if she gives up on what she wants in a partner, someone who's willing to open up and talk to her and treat her like a partner. It's not a healthy way to deal with it at all, and like I said earlier I would like to see it addressed, but I have no problem with it in this episode because it's not only an understandable reaction but it's also a Felicity reaction.
  7. Oliver forgets to cancel the venue maybe?
  8. Honestly I predict I'll spend half the episode cheering on snarky Felicity, and the other half yelling 'It's your own fault Oliver' at my screen. I'm quite happy with what we've seen so far, it looks like it will be a pretty decently written episode at least (with the parts I care about anyway).
  9. I think by tonight he thought she meant tonight at home, not tonight at the lair.
  10. But Robbie Amell is going to bake a cake!
  11. I've seen a couple of these go bad so I am always a bit weary. This one is a bit weird because they're taking all of the money even if they don't hit the goal, so there's no way that backers could get the money back even if there's not going to be a finished product. The amount they want to raise is pretty low for a full length movie set in the future with people with powers and robots, particularly because they'll only actually be spending 140000 on the production of the film. And SA looks really stupid in that hat. I hope that they're able to stick with their production times, if only for the sake of the people backing them, but movies (especially indie one) don't tend to do so.
  12. I'm with you on not reading WIP. I only read Forever is Composed of Nows because of the rave reviews on this thread, and because there is an update schedule. There's a HP fanfic that was first published in 2007, that I've been reading since maybe 2010. It's massive, the wordcount at the moment is over 700,000, and the last time it was updated was in 2013. The writer is active around the internet, and I know she's still working on it, but three years for a chapter is kind of ridiculous. And the thing is, I don't want to give up on it because I've already invested so much time on it and it's not really close to being finished. But that experience put me off WIP almost entirely.
  13. Whilst I agree with you, sitting through an Amnesia storyline for weeks would be really awful, I actually wouldn't mind amnesia. A) Because I do quite like tropes when they're written well, B) I think Amnesia (from either Felicity or Oliver) would help to showcase not only how their relationship has developed but how they've both developed as characters and C) The way these writers go through plot, it's going to last a week/ a week and a half tops, and I don't mind that. I don't think that there's anyway that they'll let a foreground storyline that affects everything else go on longer than that. It's not like BMD where they could mention it in one episode and then shove it to the back, or like Thea's bloodlust where it can come up but largely be ignored because the more important plot is the plot of the episode.
  14. I gave up halfway through Man of Steel, it was just so boring and I really think Superman should be fun. I get that it's hard when you're pretty much rehashing what someone has already done multiple times, but that doesn't mean that you can't get an engaging film out of it.
  15. The funniest thing is, even if they toned down the romance to the point where Felicity and Oliver barely even make eye contact, people would still be talking about the romance, they still wouldn't be able to escape it, because that's just the nature of TV shows and online fandom. And I'm pretty sure it's always been like that? People get excited about the relationships on shows, be they platonic or romantic. I mean, we can talk about how cool stunts are, or how technically great a shot is, but that is never going to generate as much 'fan content' as a relationship with two characters, because of the many ways that content can be created (twitter convos, fanfiction, videos, fanart, articles etc) as well as the many many ways each relationship (and the people within it) can be percieved and analysed.
  16. And then you end up having essentially the same scene two or three times in an episode... which is boring as hell.
  17. Obviously Laurel dying is going to annoy people (and I'm mainly talking about critics, particularly feminist ones) because she'll be another female character to die (probably) at the hands of a guy and her death will likely forward someone elses storyline (though to what extent or to whos I'm not sure). I don't like Laurel myself, but I'm not going to defend the show if it does it in a particularly gross (or in some eyes karmic) way. I'm not going to go to great lengths to criticise it either but that's just me... I do think, after the criticisms of the way Sara died, the EP's are going to be more careful about it though And lets face it, they didn't bring back Sara because of anything directly related to the fans or 'the canary initiative' , they bought her back because a show with Ray at the helm would have flopped like a dead cat. Alive Sara made financial sense not because of gaining the (very) few viewers they lost because of her death, but because of the new viewers they could gain by putting her on an ensemble show with a bunch of guys and hawkgirl. If they weren't going to do an ensemble show, there's no way they would have brought her back, despite fan outrage. I do think that they 'tone down' storylines because of the anticipated fan reaction, but I don't think that they'll avoid storylines because of it, if they did we wouldn't have ended up with Baby Mama Drama and Demon Spawn.
  18. Mom: Why did you buy a new pair of shoes? Me: Because Laurel Lance is dead.
  19. I denied it at the beginning, purely because I didn't want to get my hopes up, but the more and more information we get about the grave, the more and more I turn into Tom Haverford.
  20. So David and Willa say they know who is going to die, but KC is denying anyone's knowledge. At the same con. These guys really need to get on the same page... maybe they should have had that conversation on the way there.
  21. I don't think the show ascribed value to virginity either. Jane did, and her abuela did, but the rest of the show and it's characters... not really. And it certainly didn't vilify non-virgins. At least whilst I was watching, Jane was actually shown to be a sexual character. As far as Jane being a virgin goes, it was barely a plot point, the show was more focused on Jane, her family and her romantic entanglements, with her virginity only really mentioned to convey the humour of the situation (the Jane got pregnant without having sex) and later on in order to add humour to the nuns using Jane in order to advertise their school. I'd say her virginity was largely ignored, and certainly never elevated, and only bought up to show irony and add humour.
