  1. We had one of those, too. It had a 3/4 size mattress (between double and queen), and had to be custom made. We used double sheets on it though. I have a queen now, but had a twin growing up, and in college, and even in my first apartment in grad school because the apartment was a tiny studio. The twin bed also served as the sofa. I didn't get the queen until after I finished school. For me, a king is just a lot of wasted space, but if there were two of me, I'd love a king so I wouldn't have to try to sleep all jammed up against another person.
  2. Yes, the same virus causes both diseases. The shingles vaccine is supposed to prevent a "re-awakening" of the virus, which can happen to anyone who's had chicken pox. And you can get shingles more than once -- I've had it once (on my FACE!), but I'm working out when I can get the vaccine. I want to make sure I time the doses appropriately.
  3. I am of the generation that had "chicken pox parties" -- one kid in the neighborhood got it, and our parents gathered us all together so we'd all get it.
  4. I saw it again last night! I picked up on so much more than I did the first time.
  5. Peeve of the day: People who try to tell me how to do my job, which I've been doing for decades, and they have no idea wtf they're talking about. Please do not try to school me, because I will school the hell out of you right back.
  6. I was kind of mad at Deadpool when he handed Logan a shirt and told him to put his "greasy tits" away.
  7. Eh, when I was a kid, we always went back in August. But we got out in mid-May.
  8. School started this week where I live.
  9. It depends on their ranking. If they're grad students or postdocs, they probably are earning peanuts. Adjunct faculty, too, are not highly paid. And I suppose it depends on your definition of "peanuts." Also too, (and I know this doesn't apply to the show), but it is well-known that if you work as a researcher for a state university, you will be underpaid relative to those who work in industry or pharma. If you are a sports ball coach, though, you'll out earn even the University president. For the record, I have been a scientist at a state university, albeit staff, not faculty, and staff are definitely paid peanuts!
  10. "Vegan chicken" makes me think the chickens are vegans.
  11. Okay, the rings are up, and the Gold Bug is in place as the flame, so I'm done. See y'all for the Snow-lympics!
  12. I'm also watching the replay, and as inane as Tara and Johnny are, it appears that some of their most inane comments have been edited out. Which is a good thing.
  13. I'm right there with you. This song kills me every time.
  14. To be fair, the flame at the cauldron wasn't real, either.
  15. Okay, yeah, the Olympic rings and the Hollywood sign bit was cool.
  16. Tom barely had to lean over to talk to Simone.
  17. I knew that, but I didn't think it was bad enough for a boot. Ugh. Crazy Tom Cruise.
  18. I love that commercial where Riley makes the team.
  19. I'm more bored now than I was by the artsy-fartsy stuff. I thought that stuff was gorgeous. I'm not averse to new-to-me music, but this just isn't speaking to me.
  20. This is stunning. I wouldn't take time to comment except that I need a distraction from Tara's and Johnny's inane comments. I love their commentary on figure skating, but not so much here.
  21. Shut up, announcers, all of you, and let me watch and listen to the show!
  22. Congrats to our Jeopardy champions! Imagine "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" playing for you all.
