Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
Browncoat replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
My annual fireworks peeve! The idiot neighbors started with what looked and sounded like professional grade fireworks at about 6pm. They took a break for the actual professional fireworks shortly after 9, but then resumed, with more piling on when the pros were finished. Remarkably, and probably just because they ran out, they stopped at around midnight. My other fireworks-related peeve is that the pros moved their location, and now I can't see them from my house. I don't mind the pro fireworks. I know that they're coming, and I know when and for how long. It's the local yahoos with their randomness that bother me. -
Could you poke the wire through the chicken skin before tying it to the trap? I can sometimes catch mice with peanut butter on the trap. It's sticky enough that they have to sit there and lick it off, which proves to be their downfall.

Almost instaget FJ for me tonight. Sharks led me to the correct response. The only TS I got was gridlock traffic.

He might have just eaten a bit of whatever stinky thing it is that he's found.

I went back to yesterday's show and saw the fullerene clue -- I think I would have gotten carbon from that image. But today, I was just as stumped on FJ as the contestants were. Seemed obvious when Ken revealed the correct response, though. I did manage the TS of cloistered, wi-fi, golden calf, Doris Day Day, Iguazu, and bridal veil.

It shouldn't grow bacteria in a week! I keep gallon containers of store-bought distilled water in my fridge at work, and it keeps much longer than a week. We do have ultra-filtered, deionized water for most chemical preparations, but I have one very picky chemical that will only behave properly in distilled water. -
Hm. I'm not sure if I would have gotten it or not. I did record the game, so maybe I'll try to find time to watch.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

Steve Martin in The Jerk. "I was born a poor Black child..." Although, arguably, his family didn't teach him what rhythm was, he discovered it with a different kind of music. -
Archive game for me, as I went to see "Ghostlight" last night. Good movie -- bring your kleenex. FJ took me a minute, but I came to the correct murderer in time to write it down. I also got the TS of Westminster Abbey, footlights, Maple Leaf, bell ringing, fathoms, iodine, and xylem. I suspect I would have gotten carbon if I'd seen the photo in the clue. Sometimes when I use the archive and there's a picture that I can't see, I sort of give up on the clue altogether. That clue was one of those times. Same, but I think it's MISS-uh-LAY-ney, with a greater emphasis on MISS, but still a slight emphasis on LAY.

Exactly. Once the nitrous is replaced in your system with regular air, the effects will go away. And then you'll care about the pain, but not have any after effects from the gas itself. -

Do you mean nitrous oxide? I've had it a couple of times for dental work. I mostly just felt kind of happy (there's a reason they call it laughing gas). I still felt pain, but I didn't care. Everything was just sort of floaty and slower than usual, and I didn't have a care in the world. -
The channels should be on the door frame or wall next to the door. Picture a castle or medieval house with a bar across the door. One version is a drawbar door -- instead of being a separate bar, the bar slides into the wall. I can't find a good link, but if you search drawbar door, you might have better luck with images.

Sorry -- all I know about is sprays that will kill them. 🙂 -

Can you screen them off your balcony? -
Almost instaget FJ for me tonight. At first, I thought the new champ made a boneheaded bet of zero, but it worked out for him. I was surprised the now-former champ missed it. I also got the TS of faster caster, Unbroken, Bacillus, and Yukon Territory.

My local news showed footage from Barbados today. They weren't specific about where in Barbados, but it just looked like a windy, rainy day. Nothing catastrophic. But! There is another system just off the coast of Africa that seems to be taking a similar path to Beryl. If it strengthens, it will be called Debby.

Here's one you can gasp over -- I don't like mustard or ketchup or relish on my hot dogs. Mayo and onions only, please, and the same for burgers, although I'll also have lettuce on the burgers.

I'll likely be at home alone for July 4 as well, hoping my idiot neighbors lay off the fireworks after 10pm. The official fireworks end around that time. This year will be my first Thanksgiving and Christmas without parents. I'll be in New Zealand for Thanksgiving -- I think I'll be at Hobbiton on the day -- but I'll be back at my house for Christmas. It's going to be weird, but as I will have just returned from my trip, I expect to be sleeping and organizing photos.

Hopefully Beryl will stay on that track and spare you the worst!

My father was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He had a certificate (framed!) -- I have it now.

Oh, this is sad news! Besides Colonel Mustard, I remember him most as Leon Carp from Roseanne. RIP, Mr. Mull. -
I really felt bad for the middle guy last night. But I also feel like that's how I'd be if I were ever foolish enough to get on the show -- so excited that I've managed to ring in first that the correct response leaves my brain entirely.

Shockingly, 4/5 this week.
