  1. Or maybe take a folding table and chair to sit outside?
  2. Definitely a real thing. My father used to put peanuts in Coke -- those single serve packs of peanuts you'd get from a vending machine, and the little glass bottles of Coke. In terms of choking, it's not really any different than having crushed ice in your Coke and chewing on that.
  3. I have to say, it doesn't hurt my feelings that the final three were all from Dirty Hands. Savage Crew just annoyed me this season.
  4. I used to love watching Pee Wee's Playhouse. I'll have a shot of tequila in his honor! RIP, Pee Wee.
  5. Even our farmer's market had a Christmas in July. Santa was there in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts.
  6. As it should be. I meant to give Ken kudos for pronouncing it correctly. Buchanan VA (the town and the county) are not pronounced like the president. One of my coworkers is from the town, and I grew up not far from the county, and they are both pronounced BUCK-annon.
  7. Not a terrible finish -- 4/5 for this, the final week.
  8. It took me a few seconds tonight (with a brief detour to "yellow", which I knew was wrong) to get to the correct FJ, but I did get there in plenty of time to write it down. And we got a "Hello!" from Ken! I also got the TS of mile, Washington, tobacco, Ecce Homo, India & Bangladesh, and Wordsworth. Incidentally, the town of Buchanan in Virginia is lovely (and only a couple of hours from where I live). It does not hurt my feelings that middle woman didn't win. Actually, I didn't really root for any of them tonight.
  9. I may go see Barbie again just for that.
  10. Of course not. It's made with actual shepherds peppered on top.
  11. Not sure what being a Gemini has to do with it. I'm a Gemini, and in this heat, I will happily stay inside all day.
  12. Aargh! It would have been nice to have Dean get excited over something more unusual than an Erlenmeyer flask -- which the girl then refers to as a beaker! Come on, scientists, get it together! At least he was able to geek out a little more (and more accurately) when she showed him the lab. I called key party before Lillian did. The Jell-o mold salad part cracked me up. I think it was the looks between Lillian and Bill that made those scenes. I think Bill was uneasy not just because it was white people, but also because it was all new people. I mean, they're going to a party where he knows exactly one person besides his wife. I'd be uneasy, too!
  13. I was fortunate enough to see the Eagles a few years ago, before Glenn Frey died, and with Randy Meisner, too. It was an amazing show. Was Randy touring with them this year? Which brings me to a question I've asked before -- it's mostly a thought question. I don't expect a real answer. How many original members of a band does it take to make the band? I mean, is it really the Eagles without Glenn Frey? RIP Randy. Yours was a wonderful voice.
  14. I was terribly worried about FJ when I saw the category, but it turned out to be an instaget for me. I also got the TS of L'Oreal (only because I'm worth it), Ham/Shem/Japheth, Jean Lafitte, and Kidd.
  15. In chemistry, a -yl ending has a different connotation than an -ol ending, so pronunciation matters. That said, I don't know the actual chemical composition of fentanyl, but I would guess (hope?) that the people who named it know the meanings of chemical endings and used -yl on purpose.
  16. The rice was the best part. I can't stand Jim Carrey.
  17. Whew. I almost wrote down "Rent", but corrected myself in plenty of time. Good for me. I also got the TS of Dune, Abbot Elementary, electricity (assuming they would have accepted that), and photon. I was rooting for Alex.
  18. Catching up from last night. I watched my recording rather than using the archive because I read some clickbait headline about "a contestant's tongue trick" -- I didn't click to the article. And I kind of wish I'd used the archive, but I would have missed the googly category, which would have been tragic. I also said "Frankenstein" both ways. <ahem> I did get FJ, but it was not quite an instaget. I also got the TS of Carlsberg, bat, goldfish, decline the wine, Ralph Ellison, Annie Proulx, and left of center. I am glad the middle guy didn't win, and it has nothing to do with being able to lick his elbow.

    Barbie (2023)

I saw Barbie last night, and loved (almost) every minute of it, starting with the homage to 2001. That sequence, with the giant original Barbie just slayed me. That, along with Helen Mirren's narration were just so completely unexpected, and awesome. I thought the movie as a whole was campy, and fun, but also had a great message for everyone -- we should all be treated equally and with respect. Neither the matriarchy nor the patriarchy worked very well. I do still wonder where the Kens live. The parts that fell flat for me were the parts that involved the suits from Mattel. I guess Barbie being at Mattel headquarters (the mothership!) was the best way to initially introduce Ruth, but I didn't really need the whole car chase part. The last line was perfect.
  20. I thought the woman got that one right?
  21. Did not get FJ today. But I did get the TS of New Mexico, Yankees, Arizona, Dukakis, Nixon, and Scotland. Bad start to the final week of the season.
  22. Well, I guess that answers my question.
  23. I was so skinny as a kid that I didn't float easily. It took real effort, and I never got good at it. And not floating easily made swimming a chore, so I never got good at that, either. Although I suspect I would float quite well these days!
  24. Doesn't hurt my feelings in the slightest. What do you suppose the show would do if one team did get all the wins straightaway? I mean, I know it isn't fixed so that the lagging team catches up, but what would happen if they didn't?
