  1. Same! I wasn't sure it would be her body, but a body or body part for sure!
  2. I apologized directly to Woody in last week's thread, but I'm going to say it again. I am SO SORRY I thought he was like Chicago Nate. He's really a good guy and if he messes this up with Amani I will take everything back, but I loved him tonight! I would love to hang out with those two someday, they seem really fun. I also love Bennett and Amelia. They are who they are and they make no apologies for it. They have a real connection and I think they can absolutely make this work for the long haul. I think it is kind of funny that the end of the show was all of the couples basically saying a love letter to them, because they, too, know that they are really great. I adore the idea of Bennett and people like Miles and Woody being friends, because they seem like such an odd grouping, but those two guys clearly appreciate him for who he is and that makes me like the other two even more. Brett and Henry? I have a feeling that they were very judgemental of Bennett.
  3. Yes. Everyone has different needs in therapy. Sometimes it is important for the therapist to have shared experiences, but sometimes that blank slate or someone who challenges you in a different way can be helpful. You just have to find the one that fits. Again, I'm glad they showed that you can break up with your therapist in an assertive way and be thankful for what they have done for you, while understanding that you need someone different. I have had clients who just stop coming and it would have been very helpful to know that they were not getting what they need from me or were just finding something different.
  4. I would have loved to see a discussion with the kids about this. And I feel like it would be well within character for Beth to head out to a protest and bring the girls with her. Maybe the show didn't want to get too into the whole protest thing because there are still people out there who can't see anything but the bad in those and it didn't want to alienate those viewers. Or maybe it was too fast of a turnaround production wise. Beth Pearson would be protesting or going to vigils or doing something other than watching things on television.
  5. So many people do not understand that when the conversation is about privilige, it is NOT about socioeconomic privilige. I don't know how many more times it can be explained that socio economic privilige and white privilige are two different things. I've explained this to people over and over and I still get hit with "Well, I had bad things happen/my family was poor, so I don't know what privilege you are talking about." I just told you what privilege means in regards to race. It's frustrating to me as an ally, I can't imagine the exhaustion that my Black and brown friends are feeling every damn day.
  6. I'm going on record to say that I don't think his mom is alive. I could be way off though. It seems to be too much, even for a Fogelman show. I wonder how many of those flashbacks of actual footage we have seen before were because they had to make quick changes about plot and filming and these were easy ways to fill time. Overall, I think they did a pretty good job incorporating events that have happened since they stopped filming and had to shoehorn this stuff into it. I'm grading on a curve though, because I am glad that I am not the person who has to make the decisions about how to do this and they've likely never had to do this before. I loved Randall and Malick on the porch. That exchange sounded natural. The actor who plays Malick is fantastic and I hope they continue to give him time in this show. I'm a therapist, so I'm super critical of the way therapy is often portrayed on TV, because it is almost always wrong in some way. But I really appreciate that they had Randall break up with his therapist appropriately, and for her to respond appropriately. Sometimes our clients outgrow us, and sometimes they need something different than we can give them. A lot of therapy skills are color and gender blind (communication, supportive reflection, validation of feelings, etc). But sometimes you just need to see someone who looks like you. And that's okay.
  7. I cannot figure out the timeline of when Chad and Sophia were IRL together and when they divorced and how this overlaps with the show. I've watched this show through several times and I don't notice a difference in how they relate to each other onscreen, but I would like to know what the storyline was while they were divorcing. One thing I have noticed throughout this show is that Lucas is really not a likeable character. I know we are supposed to love him, but he made some really bad decisions regarding relationships, like you said. I know he is a high school boy and they do stupid things, but this was a WB/CW show and we are all supposed to be in love with the main character. As for why there are only two black families in this whole town...this was a teen soap in the early 2000s. It's a miracle there were two.
  8. Because of a snafu, I have recently learned that mortgage companies are all or nothing. You make a full monthy payment or it counts as zero. We had an issue where our money was being direct debited from our bank account, but the payment due had gone up (by less than $50) and the mortgage company wasn't taking our money. So it was not in our bank account and just floating around in nowhere land, waiting for us to make a full payment. We were told we were "two months behind" on our mortgage payment, even though the money had left our account on time. If they had a monthly payment of more than $1200, they could throw it at the bank and they still wouldn't apply it to the balance. Mortgage companies are stupid.
  9. Dear Woody, I'm so sorry I ever compared you to Chicago Nate. You are absolutely not him. Hoping you can forgive me, Sara I really like his persepctive in the talking heads when he is talking about the other couples. He's commenting without being judgemental but you can see his personality. He'd be a lot of fun to hang out with and I think he really does appreciate Amani.
  10. Paul Johansen plays an excellent smarmy ass. I recently caught the old eps of 90210 that he was on and he's just so good at this type of character.
  11. I didn't think about threading it through the belt buckle. My thought was that she put the stick part of the buckle through the hole in the key, so when she unbuckled it would pretty immediately fall out.
  12. I rewatched "Keg! Max!" last night and one thing that has always bothered me was the housekey on the belt thing. Lorelei says that the only way she will lose it is if she is taking her belt off, but is she not going to go to the bathroom all night? She has to undo the belt for that, and therefore the key could easily fall off. Plus, she's wearing jeans. Just put the key in your pocket! There are also some very weird time issues in that episode that I don't understand, like Michel working at the inn at night and what time that booster meeting could possibly be.
  13. I was out of town for the weekend, and I have some crap reality TV to catch up on, but I'm in for OTH. It's a fun show to hate watch for me because some of it is just so bad. But I've gone through it several times when it was on SoapNet and I definitely came to change my mind on a lot of the characters over time, which shows some growth or lack thereof. Can we start next week?
  14. Still a little behind you guys because life gets in the way of my TV watching! I love love love that they had Travis admit to being abused as a kid. Boys are so often left out of the conversation and it is so much more prevalent among children with a disability. This was such an important storyline all around and I love that it happened. The show was able to cover all aspects of sexual abuse and assault without making it too graphic as well as showing how often it can happen. Well done, show. Well done.
  15. I think Tank was the perpetrator and had a responsibility to ensure 100% consent. But I like that the show used a character that was liked and we had seen that he wasn't a bad person, just a person who made a bad decision. Because that's so much more true to life. I don't think the guy who assaulted me is a bad human, I think he made a really bad choice and, unlike Tank, took ZERO responsibility for anything that happened. People are not just good or bad, and I would hate to be judged on the worst decision I ever made. But if people like Tank can take responsibility, move forward and learn from what they did, and maybe help others to make better decisions, it says a lot. I don't think this would be a pattern of behavior for Tank. It's easy to watch a show where the character is someone we all dislike and then watch something like this happen (like Veronica Mars, for example), but the way the show treated this incident opens up a bigger conversation about consent and responsibility, and that's important. Also, that supportive boyfriend I had? He's now my husband. 💗 There are still some good ones out there, lol.
  16. I thought that was really well done, and I now understand the praise that this got when it first aired. It showed that not all rapists are bad guys, and it is really easy to be a good person and make a bad decision. I love, love, love that Kathryn told Bay what happened to her and that she said that because it wasn't intercourse, she didn't believe it mattered. That was exactly what I went through with my situation. It wasn't rape, so it wasn't that big of a deal, right? Wrong. It took me a long time to let myself believe that it was a big deal and it wasn't my fault. One thing that Kathryn told Bay that really bothered me though was the scene when she and Regina were trying to figure out what happened and she said "Bay, if something happened, you HAVE to tell us." Nope. She doesn't. I also don't think that investigation should have gone through. For one thing, Bay is not a student and I honestly don't believe any university would go ahead with that. They would do as much as they could to ignore it. Making this investigation happen, with or without the consent of the victim, is re-victimizing. Mary Beth is right, but like you said, she is also way wrong. There are so many rules for women when it comes to how we have to act. Don't dress to conservatively, but don't dress slutty. Smile and be pleasant, but don't smile too much because then you are leading them on. It should be a reasonable expectation to believe that a person can share a bed with a friend and not be touched without their permission. It should be a reasonable expectation that a girl can want to make out with a guy and put the brakes on it. These episodes did a wonderful job of showing pretty much every perspective that someone can take in a situation like this. The internet comments, the people in the dorm saying she was asking for it, the ones who thought they should protect her, the ones who think it is no big deal, and even the over the top crisis center worker. There's so many reasons why women never report these things, and this is why. It becomes bigger than you and the thing that is YOUR business to disclose becomes public knowledge. I know this isn't all about me, but now that I am watching the next episode, I am even more grateful that my boyfriend at the time was infinitely more forgiving of me than Emmett was for Bay. I can't imagine what it is like to hear that the person you love is in this situation, but Emmett...just be there for her.
  17. I don't know if it is something we are socialized to do or if it is shame or what, but no one wants to say the word rape. It's uncomfortable, it's an ugly word, and it's very emotionally charged. It also might be partially not wanting to admit to yourself what happened. Mine was "the thing that happened in college". I've got a lot of thoughts about this two episode arc, but I was pulled away in the middle of the second episode last night. I'm now being a masochist and watching the shit show of a "debate", so I'll pick up later after I finish it.
  18. I'm not at that episode yet, but I remember reading about it when it first aired and how it was very well done in regards to opening up the conversation about consent and what it really means, as well as showing how confusing it can be for both parties when it is not clear and alcohol is involved because of much more how true to life this is than "guy jumps out of the bushes and rapes someone" storylines. I'm half looking forward to this and half not, because I was sexually assaulted in college and there was alcohol involved. I was awake and aware and did NOT consent to what happened, but I also know that the alcohol that the guy ingested that night made him feel as though he had permission and didn't really need it. We'll see how I feel about all this after I watch.
  19. I just finished the dorm olympics. It was driving me crazy who that actor was, and then I looked him up. Jimmy Gibbler from Fuller House! Toby got rid of the facial hair but his hair is looking rough right now. Not sure if he's trying to grow it out or something, but the slicked back look does not look good on him. Bay, as ever, is hair goals. And I thought the outfit with the long black skirt that she wore to meet with the art dealer was lovely. I understand Bay's complicated feelings toward Daphne, but at the end of the day, it was her choice to take the blame and she gets all the consequences that go with it. I'm not saying she can't be frustrated with those circusmtances, because they definitely suck. But she made the choice to take the fall and Daphne actually tried to stop her. So being mad at Daphne for the situation she is in seems a little bratty.
  20. I am behind you guys, but this? So much truth! Probably because I am a therapist but FFS, why were these girls not in therapy as soon as the switch was revealed? I'm not digging Toby's facial hair. And I thought he looked best in the first season or two, where his hair was less perfect and more rough around the edges.
  21. Spoiler alert: the boat sinks. I hated all the hype that stupid movie got. The special effects were great, but it was not that special. Schitt's Creek is really good though.
  22. She's amazing in absolutely everything she does. I also would like to just hang out with her sometime because she seems really fun.
  23. I really wish D'Arcy Carden AND Annie Murphy could have won. That was tough.
  24. OMG....I never watched it during the original run but watched it later. It's so garbage but I CANNOT stay away from it. The plot holes, the shitty teenage romance...I'm so in.
  25. I actually thought it was kind of funny. I think they all knew they were acting badly and just hammed it up. I can appreciate that when they own the cheesiness and don't take themselves too seriously (like David and the "did you use it on me" BS).
