  1. Confirm Adam really doesn't have a strong grip on sports.
  2. One of his introductory bits last year was "Social Media, that thing Cher almost knows how to use." That prompted Cher's response, though it was part of a bigger tweet, and she followed it up with a tweet about how she enjoys the show.
  3. Saw this without reading the book and liked a lot. Though the Grandpa storyline felt unresolved, maybe that's just the way it is sometimes. The stuff with the stairs was fantastic. Something I wouldn't have thought about but certainly a good angle. It sounds like the other items in the book that dealt with acclimation would have been interesting but definitely would have thrown off the pacing of the movie. I should definitely look into reading this one. Very well acted and well shot. It's amazing how big they managed to make Grandma's House feel after Room. And you really feel how big the World felt to Jack when he got out there. I felt the struggles of both characters too. Their motivations vs their desires. Jack wants to be there for his Mom but craves the safety he felt in Room. Joy wants the freedom and the return to a normal life, but can't help her need to protect Jack.
  4. Deb is just fantastic. I haven't watched much "It's Always Sunny..." and my only other exposure to MEE was as Caroline, Nick's old girlfriend, on New Girl, a role that was mandatory yet I don't think anyone really could have brought a lot too. Kudos here. Her interactions with Stu, Dean and the kids have always been great. And she really sets up the supporting characters well (her terrible assistant, and Andre this week).
  5. Really liked the first two thirds of the movie. It did such a good job of building the tension and raising the mystery. The single room set up was incredibly well shot in the large format. Some amazing shots where the focus was on someone in the middle ground, but other characters were still acting silently in the foreground and background. The dialogue really kept me rapt, even if there wasn't a lot of action. Unfortunately I thought Tarantino couldn't get out of his own way, and the flashback was overly long, and he needed his big bloody finale. It was vintage Tarantino, but it didn't pay off as well given how good the rest of the movie was. Smithers to me seemed like a man who had accepted the result of the Civil War and was more ready to move on with his life. It comes off as selective racism given his reaction and dialogue with Warren. However he seems to be reacting as much to the fact that Walton is wearing the uniform while Black, as he is just to the fact that he's Black. He specifically mentions the uniform. I'm unsure whether this means he has his own suspicions that this is Warren, who his son has gone to kill, or if the combination is enough to evoke his previous memories. Both his nonchalant attitude toward's Minnie, and his wondering gaze at Warren when Warren mentions that he knows what came of his son demonstrate to me that he's not fully blinded by race issues.
  6. So, apparently I still know all the lyrics to "A Whole New World"
  7. It's as Sitcom-ey as a Sitcom can be and I'm okay with that. It very much feels like a throwback, but there's something comfortable about that. You know the characters and flush out their little quirks. It pairs up well with a Big Bang Theory Thursday night when my brain's been fried from the week and I just need something easy to watch before bed.
  8. In my opinion, Rand Paul would be the Republican Candidate most likely to get elected as president, because I think he could swing the most independent voters. When he's speaking, he manages to create this sense where someone can start buying into what he's saying relatively easily, but it's not until you take a step back and think critically about what he said that you realize how it's all just sugar wrapped in honey. Sounds sweet but doesn't do anyone any good. The dirt story sounds ridiculous, until you think, "There has to be more to this story" and go take a look. Similarly, when he says "We don't want corporations taking jobs overseas." it's easy to say "Of course!" and listen to what he says. But companies aren't taking jobs overseas because the taxes are lower there, it's because the cost of labour is cheaper. Taxes has nothing to do with it. And it's central government regulation and incentivization that needs to be done to keep jobs here. Otherwise everyone runs overseas until they realize there's no middle class left to buy the consumer goods.
  9. This season has been an interesting one of Phil wrestling with being a Dad to children who are now essentially adults. There was the house showing with Luke (kicking off the Duck episodes) where he knew when to give Luke his space, seemingly having learned his lessons with his two daughters. There was the frank discussion with Andy after everyone caught Haley making out with him, and not trying to be friendly. And now this episode. While the others have evolved into more cartoon-ish versions of their prior selves. It's cool to see the route Ty Burrell has taken Phil.
  10. From the end of episode clips, it looks like IRL Adam F. Goldberg's best friends were Emmy (Muscles) Mersky and Chad Kremp. However, it seems like the actor that plays Dave Kim (whom the end of episode clips tell us, Adam hung out with "that one time") has more availability, and that character has been pretty good. Having those secondary characters you can go back to over your run really helps a show. Parks and Rec had a tremendous guest cast. The Goldbergs seems to have over reached twice, casting the Kremps' father, and Pop Pop. But I would definitely like to see more of the Goonies Gang routinely.
  11. Pops trying to seduce Ruby was fantastic. That Shirt!
  12. Heh, I kind of actually liked last nights episode. It was a bit of a Season one call back, with Caroline dealing with her past.
  13. Well done everyone involved. This was an episode I felt like I enjoyed for the episode, and didn't have to justify it based on little parts. It was character driven, didn't have guest star crutches, funny and sweet. And most of all no one was overly annoying. Maybe its just knowing what Ariel Winter has been through in her own life these past few years, but I find these episodes that delve into her complicated psyche to be the most interesting and compelling. I'm wondering if we're leading to a break up/separation for Mitch and Cam. For the second week in a row, they were separated by the need of the plot. And the "Junk Drawer" episode certainly seemed to hint at some troubles in their relationship. Even Cam's gesture of going back to turn off the light in that episode was after Mitch rolled his eyes heavily at it happening again.
  14. "Loud Family Breaks American Chain" Oh so fantastic
  15. If I hadn't seen Judd Nelson in the past couple of years I would have sworn that was him playing Javier.
  16. I've been watching too much Bar Rescue lately, I'm having visions of Taffer walking threw those doors so long as Nick is in charge.
  17. I won't be surprised at all if both Hayley Orrantia and Troy Gentile become people to watch coming out of this show. Hayley is so multi talented as seen in this episode with her singing, acting, and good comic timing and she seems to be just getting started. Troy I could see having a great comedic comedy role a la Zach Galifianakis.
  18. Between the Press vote and the industry support in the room, I'd take it as a very good sign for Stallone with the Oscar Noms. It was a great moment as he seemed genuinely surprised.
  19. I get Claire's motivations. She's indulging herself with the hot guy that she knows she can dispose of at any time without any real repercussions. When is Tim Olyphant going to return to Boise. Plus I'm not sure she isn't enjoying the needling of Dean.
  20. Once again Rosa and the Captain steal the show with their sub plot, with a nice sprinkle of Gina being the worst to get them there. Guys, figure out Amy ASAP. It seemed like we were moving her into a good spot of being ambitious, but not a suck up and being the mature adult, but she's backslid magnificently lately. Ben Wyatt was so great because he had his little eccentricities that balanced out his straight-man persona. Amy's eccentricities have become really painful.
  21. "Stop being so mean to me, I'm going to fall in love with you!" Have we seen Frank Melamed's character on the show before? It seemed like all the Groomsmen were a call-back, but I didn't recall him.
  22. I think it was high expectations that made this one crash a bit of me. There were definitely elements I liked, but something just felt off. Having two professional comedians resort to a singing monologue, especially one without a larger joke (see: Banks, Elizabeth) is a shame. Play to your strengths! Meet your second wife was great, not just for the promise but also having all the queens and kings of reaction shots play that up perfectly. It was a good run on from the dating game with the hosts daughter with Woody Harrelson last year. Reheated salmon is known for being stinky. Che's aside about it was very apt. "Awww, wife!" "Not a complement, that's just what you are."
  23. I'm on the same wavelength, But that would have involved the using "Mr. Falcon" instead of Other Buckets, and wouldn't have explained Kayak as neatly. I can imagine Charles sitting in his ex's basement, seeing that Die Hard was about to come on TBS and watching it ever so intently knowing it was Jakes favorite movie.
  24. Very well done episode between the humor and the seriousness. It's interesting to watch the arc of Phil. I think all his time alone, and then everyone flocking to Tucson made him feel like he was totally in control early on, it wasn't until the ousting that he was humbled. He's tried to win everyone back over and do right, but every once in a while, as the acceptance rolls in, however slightly, you can see the arrogant abrasive Phil come through. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Alpha of the group gone. If one of the ladies doesn't step up Ugly Phil may not be that far away. Really it has to be Melissa, too. Carol will enable Phil, Erica is going to be heart broken and soon enough consumed by her pregnancy without modern care, and I see Gail going to a very dark place. And Todd doesn't have it in him to motivate the group.
  25. That was definitely the Peter Pan Live set from last season. I enjoy imagining the fact that they have a mock pirate sitting around. I wonder if Rudinitsky wrote that sketch, I'm pretty sure it was his first featured one. I think my favorite line of the night was: CH - "Hey Bobby, which sketches are you playing Santa Claus in tonight" BM (dejected) - "All of them." Any time there's a repeat of a pre-taped skit, especially at 10 to 1 I wonder what we missed.
