S02.E04: All About That Paper
Traveller519 replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in You're The Worst [V]
A nice, pleasant episode until... damn! Both Lindsay's self torturing watching of the old videos on her phone and well... Gretchen's ability to be self-destructive even in what seems to be the most calm and settled moments. -
With Next month being the official month of Back to the Future (30 years on!) There's a BTTF documentary coming out, at the end of the trailer it shows that Adam F. Goldberg will be providing commentary, which seems fantastic. Trailer here.

I'm curious as to how long they'll keep the Dana relationship going. It seems inevitable that it will eventually break off (even if just due to actor commitments)

TDS 3.0: Season One Talk
Traveller519 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
we're grading on a curve here. But I got some good genuine laughs out of night 2. I continue to be optimistic. God ISIS are just a general bunch of dicks, in everything they do. -
Tech Girl (I promise to learn character names at some point - I'm pretty sure it's not Waitress in Avengers with an odd amount of screen time) was starting to wear on me. I know it's TV and you get exposition by these folks piece-mealing information, but EVERY TIME, it was Tech Girl: "Here's an interesting tidbit" " Agent: "Well that could easily be explained by..." Tech Girl: "Ya-but, then there's this as well!!!!!" Just spit it all out! Time is of the essence! At any rate, the show on the whole is not great TV. But it's enjoyable and fun. I like the action on Jamie Alexander.

Life In Pieces - General Discussion

Dan Bakkedahl is fantastic, and still the highlight of the show for me. This was much better than the pilot. I don't think you can really judge a show (espeically a comedy) on its pilot. And all the relationships felt a bit more organic here. -

Low Property and Business Taxes. Mayor Richard Kind seems like the type to court power through populist policies to me. -
TDS 3.0: Season One Talk
Traveller519 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
I was really impressed. You could tell there was some nervous energy there, but they hit it, got the laughs, talked about issues, and nodded to the past. I imagine the "We love Jon" stuff will die down pretty quickly. With all the changeovers recently that's been a staple of new host taking over (the only I can't recall was Cordon after Ferguson, but that was such a change up in everything). Trevor's I think had a bit of extra nostalgia to it because the changeover was so quick. All three segments were America-centric. So aside from Trevor's quips about being a foreigner, I don't think there was a "this is an international show now" feel to it al all. -
Terry seems satisfied with where he is. I don't think he's seeking out the additional stress and responsibility that come with being a Captain. He's got a comfortable role that lets him be a father and still scratch the Cop itch when he can. He likes taking care of those in the station, but I couldn't see him enjoying interacting with the superiors and being responsible to them. At least not right now.

S02.E01: Is There Anybody Out There?
Traveller519 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Last Man On Earth [V]
Yes, this would certainly seem like the logical conclusion for them once Tandy left. As superior to Phil's scheming as they all liked to (rightfully) act, no one was making an effort to do anything productive for moving for the group from there, at least until Phil arrived. He probably lead a the notion to get out and move past Tucson to a more logical climate. There was a return to the haunting feeling of the first episode of last season, but with growth from both characters who had given up on some of their stubbornness for the sake of their predicament. I wonder how the rest of the Tucson crew is faring, perhaps realizing that in such limited numbers it's not easy to escape the annoying tendencies that ANYONE who isn't you has. -
Not as strong a start as last season, but I get the feelings of frustration and impasse that Holt is feeling. So thanks for making me empathize, Schur and Goor. A couple episode beat with Winters will be good, or maybe a few more with a cycling cast of Captains, but the show is at its best leveraging everyone's strengths. That said, every character got some laughs out of me, and this was one of the better Amy episodes for me, where the joke isn't just her over the top Type A personality.

Ratings & Scheduling: Nielsen Family Favorite?
Traveller519 replied to Stinger97's topic in The Goldbergs
It's also a "Likely to be renewed" show. Basically, if it holds ratings, it'll get renewed to get it to 88 epsiodes (I guess that's a near magic number for syndication). With the consistent Wednesday night line up, I'm guessing it won't have a lot of opportunity to go up, but maybe hold firm. -
I would think Keenan would make a good Cruz. He does those characters that talk like they know what they're saying but don't have a lot going on behind to back it up pretty well (Reese de'What or Willie). I hope Nasim comes back on occasion to do her Bobby Jindal.

"I am Flangry!"

Sean Giambrone's summer growth and voice deepening is definitely a bit jarring, but it's happened on many a show before, and I'm sure we'll settle in. Can't believe he's 16 now, I think he's generally playing a little younger in the show, or as much as can be expected with the timeline issues. Adam Goldberg really recorded EVERYTHING, didn't he?
-
Certainly felt like a good throw back. Everyone interacts, a nice bit of farce thrown in. It was an easy watch. They definitely rehashed a couple story-lines we've seen, but I liked the different takes, Jay's approach vs. Mitchell's approach to day care, and Cam dealing with the stress of being the sole income earner. "Oh, did you walk here? I thought you just Ubered everywhere" was a quick line I really liked. I'm not on board for a full season of the love triangle...they've been hinting at it for a season and a half. Shit or get off the pot with this arc.

Ha, this episode rang good and true. Your late 20s, early 30s is this weird divergance between friends prsuing families and those who aren't. "I have never heard you say any of those words, well except Cocaine."

Ooof, after two good episodes to start the season, that was a bit of a coaster. Thank goodness Ruxin was there to keep the humor, if this had been one of the episodes he missed over the past few years I don't think it would have survived. I'm amazed at how quick on actual NFL news this show is. Brady being cleared to play was less than three weeks ago, did they film the two alternatives and sort it in editing?

I was going back and forth on whether I was going to check this one out. At the last minute I recorded it on my DVR, and watched it last night, one day late. I enjoyed it for what it was. Prison Break was fun, and a I enjoy a good procedural here and there. There's obviously some eye roll worthy moments, but I also found that Jamie Alexander did more and was more central than I had been able to deduce from the reviews I had read.

Life In Pieces - General Discussion
Traveller519 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Life In Pieces
I swore I wasn't going to watch this, but the cast was just too damn likable for me to pass up. Dan Bakkedahl can make me laugh just by his presence, and he did in this episode, but I still prefer him as foul-mouthed Congressman Furlong. Everything else was...ugh. Betsy Brandt doesn't do it for me in a sitcom. She's almost too straight as the straight man which comes of as too tropey a wife for me. Zoe Lister-Jones could be drifting into Show Killer territory here. Luckily her pitch perfect run as Councilwoman Fawn Moscato last year upped her average. -
S02.E01: Rise Of The Villains: Damned If You Do...
Traveller519 replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Gotham
I was glad to see that, even as a prisoner, Barbra wouldn't be caught wearing pants. She did get a lot of focus this show, which I hope is mitigated as the season progresses. I think she's great within the limits of a supporting character. I'm very uncertain on Jerome becoming the Joker. He's a little too on the nose for me. He's been added to the masthead, but I'd really like it if he was mysteriously taken out, but whomever would become the true Joker. Something tells me Nygma is going to make everyone's lives miserable this season, including his own. -
Parks and Recreation in the Media
Traveller519 replied to wingster55's topic in Parks & Recreation [V]
Is that a career shutout for Parks & Rec at the Emmys? Looks like it. Ah well, show. Your fans will always know. -
Y'know, with the Emmy loss last night, I feel this little sense of relief going into this season. I like this show, I still watch every week, but it's a familiar, coasting show for me now, which I think any Comedy gets to in its senior seasons. I think I'll enjoy it more this season, without the network lording the Emmy over the audience.
