  1. The third cousins thing was certainly a lazy way out of the relationship without having to have Jess go through another break-up, due to Nick Feelings, which is starting to get repetitive. But the execution kind of worked this episode with the hike preamble. For the record, when I saw the title, I thought it was going to be an homage to Drew Magary's mind-trippy novel from last year. Where was my crab, show?! I did enjoy the Winston and Aly-centric part of the party. I adored that they managed to do an Aly's family story, with Iranian characters and the comedy didn't come from cultural differences. They we just kind of bizarre people, that brought out Aly's crazy. No weird food gags, no language barrier gags. Well done. Nick also had some good throw-away humor. The best kind of Nick humor
  2. I saw Manchester By the Sea, I liked Manchester by the Sea, but I think the Directorial, and especially supporting actress nominations could have gone somewhere else. I would have gone to Linklater for Everybody Wants Some!! for directing, and maybe considered Morena Baccarain for the honarary Deadpool nomination. That award probably already has Viola Davis's name already on it, anyway. Speaking of Fences, I agree with the acting nominations, those were a lot of work, and both delivered, but the movie itself didn't capture me as one of the year's best. I can't believe there's a 2/3 shot for one of Suicide Squad or Star Trek Beyond to capture an Oscar
  3. Bumpy was also featured in "Aloha." Bradley Cooper's character has to negotiate blessing from the Nation's Elders on the movement of a gate on a nearby military base. It was to the point that I was wondering if he had actually been in a previous episode since I recognized the name and actor, and Danny made mention of doing past work with him. According to IMDB this was his first appearance on 5-0 though. While I like that they have him there representing his cause (and in other media), I can't get on board with the fact that he was still protecting the suspect after he confessed to the robberies. He was acting like he had his own sliding scales for laws, which I'm willing to bet isn't the way he acts in real life.
  4. I agree, I think his interest in the human condition was genuine, hence his social experiment. I don't think he's a total Bad Place guy. However, it's still going to be tough to watch him without a side-eye as he acts joyful assuming the memory wipe has fixed everything.
  5. She's working heavily on the Indie Circuit, which is where I think here talents are probably best used anyway, in the mumblecore genre. I've never seen a Twilight movie, but I've really enjoyed her in other things like Adventureland, On the Road, and American Ultra. The strangest thing is she doesn't appear to have anything to promote, unless they're tying Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk into a VOD release with the Super Bowl, and isn't Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, or even Aziz Ansari level of star that just shows up from time to time
  6. Nice work! I do hope we get to redeem Michael a bit. Hopefully his curiosity for all things human is genuine. It's that sense of wonder that's really fantastic. I think I'm going to need to go back and watch Bored to Death this summer to get some more Earnest Ted Danson.
  7. I have a complex evaluation of this episode. On one hand, Aziz was fantastic. It really showed the strength of featuring a stan-up comic who has good sketch training. (note: Get Bob Odenkirk back to host!) On the other, the show was SO topical, it won't really stand the test of time. The Interrogation scene was great and we'll done, but it definitely wasn't timeless. And the Thanks, Obama bit really didn't fit, and I say this as someone who enjoyed the Southern Rock Jamboree to close out last season. I would have preferred more of the cast being involved, and offering unique takes (hopefully some comedic) Weekend Update was on. After what felt like a down week for them they hit mostly across the board, though I think Che's feminism bit came together quickly at the last moment and it showed. That was the best Leslie segment since her first appearance. She remained focused and hit some great points woth comedy. And I love Michael's little asides after her bits. The friend zone one didn't quite get where it needed to go, though. Especially last night. Come back soon Aziz!
  8. We can dream, but Schur is cursed in writing some of the best supporting characters, having actors give them full life, and them not getting Emmy recognition
  9. I'm guessing the typical place on the female body one would have sex wasn't available for Janet, and maybe some other locations lacked normal function. We saw she really couldn't eat Cake at their wedding.
  10. I've liked the centrally focused episodes in the past, but like Colleen, this one just seemed to be trying too hard. It would have made a lot more sense if they aired in during the regular football season, but I understand production lead time issues. I did find, Kurt Warner's a jerk mildly entertaining. It would have been really good if when someone (I can't remember who) made the "future hall-of-famer" someone else made a "Y'think?" face. Warner is the most debated "is he worth induction" players out there.
  11. I like that end game idea. Everyone realizes that your life doesn't end with the end of your mortal body, and you can grown into a better soul. There's something beyond eternal reward or punishment. And the whole thing becomes a social commentary on Prison Reform
  12. The very opening shot is fantastic. Not only is the magazine Eleanor reaches for exactly what we were told "Top 25 Baby Plastic Surgery Fails" Along with all sorts of other things on babies "When is starting Baby Botox too late" but the magazine beside it was "Socialite Life" featuring Tahani on the cover with the subtitle "Not just Jamilah's sister" I loved that set up. I really enjoyed the stuff through the Mindy St. Clair bit and the Neutral Zone (I wish they hadn't referred to it under official context as the "Medium Place" I liked that being Eleanor's idea. And the Jason and Janet trying to figure out sex was great. When Jason rips one of the diagrams off the mantle before running off... Fantastic. Mindy herself was good fun too. I wan't as high on the Twist, but I can also see why it was necessary, if everyone's in the good place, where's the drama to follow in future context. I do hate that we'll have to view Michael through the mischievous lense now.
  13. I'm really hoping all "old" people are in another neighbourhood, I'd rather that than trying to retcon that some of these people were 90 year olds who passed away and now are in their younger body.
  14. No new Goldbergs this week? What I would give for a real snow day!
  15. Haha! So true about the people everybody sleeps with being the downfall. Everybody, next time you're feeling randy, hop on Tinder and find a nice barista, pilates instructor, construction worker, somebody not tied into the global conspiracy. I do think Khaki is the way to Weller's heart though. Maybe some Velcro and Kevlar too. That ending though, the terribly photoshopped yearbook picture, the Shepherd's been watching you forever motif... I audibly laughed.
  16. "I guess Junior's out, too" "Junior was never in" "Your inadequacies are much greater" Heh, I enjoyed the whole Johan and the Life coaching bit. His weekly accountability reports and the realization this was all a pyramid scheme were great.
  17. Oh I agree, but I'm thinking in-universe the perception would be that Tony's decision to take another kick at the can worked out perfectly. Especially to Scientists trying to rationalize their own re-modifications
  18. I did think the first one in the reboot series was fantastic. Second one was still good but seemed a little more disingenuous. If we're going straight to all battle all the time... I don't know
  19. I kind of liked the Jess and Reagan dynamic playing off one another. "How have we dated the same guy?" Heh. I do wish everyone was a little smarter, but here we are. And maybe I was just tired and simple but I was laughing out loud through the waxing stuff, especially the first discussion while they were in the waiting room/lobby. I like seeing the chemistry play out.
  20. I think Fitz is overtaken by the "We were so close, it's only some minor modifications that'll sort this out!" I mean after all, after Ultron, Tony made Vision. I'm not sure which Aida we saw crafting her own Brain after reading the Darkhold, but I'm thinking our current Aida has that Brain and is playing like she doesn't. Radcliffe just doesn't seem to have the same control over her. I'm captivated to see how this plays out. While I'm glad Coulson didn't become Director again, part of the reason he recognized he needed oversight was his prejudices for people he believed in or held grudges against. How long before he slides back into that in his Operations Command role?
  21. Yeah, show's like this or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, I'm sure I miss a third of the more nuanced comedy, and I'll never remember 90% of it, but that's what makes them so rewatchable.
  22. At least they've sorted Jess out a bit compared to the Rock Bottom for her character that was the Car Wash episode last season, but she's really had Ted Mosby-itis in terms of just a string of partners that never really get time to develop. At least with Robby it seems like they're trying
  23. The Erica Hair thing has really resurfaced lately. I remember it being a big thing in the early run of the show, and then it died off for a long while and now it's back. I don't think it's totally out of place. it looks pretty similar to Jennifer Connelly's in "Career Opportunities," or Demi Moore's in "Blame it on Rio"
  24. Alex has probably been my favorite character for a long time, but this needing to bring her back from College has really stunted the character. I still think of her Therapy episode as one of the best character pieces in the series.
  25. I think they're in a tough position with Raj here in the series. I think they want to give him a partner, but it sounds like to fill that role they need to elevate that person to regular and get the salary that goes along with that now that the roles of Bernadette and Amy are so entrenched. So I want Raj to find his partner as the character has been so earnest about finding love, but I'm guessing it won't happen until the final season. Once their Nav system is finished, I fully expect Howard to become a stay-at-home dad, as caregiver comes much more naturally to him, passed on from his Mom. I think having a child is what leads him to embracing the domestic responsibilities his mother took care of for him. I like the idea of Sheldon supporting Amy's research, wrapping up his character development. Penny and Leonard are then left with a whole bunch of Thai food and an otherwise empty apartment. ...And then Charlie Sheen knocks at the door
