Just because they're doing things, and doing them well, doesn't mean they're commercially successful, which was my point. I loved Parsons in Hidden Figures and a Normal Heart, but he was the 6th and 12th leads in those respectively. I've been telling anyone and everyone to go check-out The Bronze because I loved it (I started The Bronze topic on the movie boards here), but it made $615,000 on an opening that was over half of that at #25. Kaley's only big non-animated film was The Wedding Ringer where she was the third lead on a Kevin Hart project. Even Simon in FFJ is the third lead. What I'm saying is right now, there hasn't been a lot of evidence that their star power has much reach beyond the show. That's not to say the talent isn't there, but mass droves of people aren't rushing out to see Rings, just because Johnny Galecki's in it. I'll add, I don't know how successful Jim's plays have been, that may be where he wants to focus his career post BBT, but the audience there is considerably smaller

I'd love to see Max attempting to play a round of golf. I'm pretty sure she'd just sit down and pass out from drinking around the 5th hole.

Life In Pieces - General Discussion
Traveller519 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Life In Pieces
The term Sophomore Slump is starting to come to mind, as much as I enjoyed the first season, I haven't gotten much rise out of this season. Last night's episode had some good laughs, and it was nice to see Tyler not acting like a complete moron, but an old people on Facebook storyline? That would have been relevant 7 years ago. Come on, guys. I know you're better than this! -
The show is making money for all people involved, so I understand. I think one of the Big 3 will need to decide that they're done for the show to end. Hidden Figures has been the most successful project outside of the show for one of the cast, but even then, Parson's was way down the cast list. Despite the popularity of the show, the cast has not been able to use their fame to anchor other projects. I'd like to see that, as you can tell the passion is no longer there.

S10.E16: The Allowance Evaporation

The cold open was great. It was a throwback to the early seasons of the show with the guys being totally passionate about something inane. I really enjoyed Howard's "See, you're interested! $10 please!" I enjoy those moments of shared joy among everyone.- 135 replies

How do you have Peyton Manning in your episode, have him do a commercial, and not do a little aside to the effect of "Oh I don't know if I could do that, I don't really think I'm cut out for commercials" or something far more clever? Based on location, Dunphy Tower would likely be about 10-14 stories at the most, so he's probably lookin at around an $8-12 million construction, a bank's going to require around 15-20% equity on that. I'm assuming Jay could go in for $2 million, but probably won't, Phil himself is probably capbable of going in for $500,000 to $1 million if he's cashing out retirement. Might be a good opportunity to bring in 1-2 other partners as much to dilute Jay as anything else.

S04.E14: The Man Behind the Shield

One thing about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, they're never afraid to go full comic-book... Everyone's an LMD! -
And Dennis "Cutty" Wise from The Wire. Good to see him continuing his healthy rehabilitation! Treading cautiously here, but no AFG joke, and with a lot of "talent related" story with Adam. Maybe they finally put it to bed! It's interesting, with the Barry and Adam stories, it almost felt like the writers were looking at long term wind-up. But I'm sure the producers are looking to squeeze at least one more season out to hit that magical, 100 episodes.

Damn, Ron Funchess! Where are you going? Where's my cuddly Teddy Bear? Glad to see him branching out though. Pouring out the Soda at the Drive Through in the Opener was a fantastic little visual gag. "After only 100 hours of training, I'll be able to walk into any YMCA in the country and help people" ---- Frightening!

Finally Saw Hidden Figures last night for our "Guys Valentine's Day" with my friend. I really enjoyed it, and told him it felt like this year's Spotlight to me. A well acted story that gave me some new historical perspective. The nominations really jumped out to me as Taraji P Henson and Janelle Monae jumped off the screen more to me than Octavia Spencer, but maybe that's Octavia's talent, she just makes it look so easy. I did feel that the best parts of Taraji's performance weren't her big scene but the little things she did, fumbling with her glasses on her face, the quiet stoicism when you could tell she was frustrated, and the cautious optimism she approached the relationship scenes with.\ I was a little frustrated to learn how much had to be adjusted for the story, only because I think it somewhat undercuts the message, by not being completely above board. I totally understand why they did it that way for the movie, and it made for a great film, but it just rankles me some because I feel it gives people who want to poke holes in the story an opportunity to do so. I felt like Jim Parsons' performance was a derivation from Sheldon. Playing Sheldon definitely helped him get the role as someone who can get the necessary technical information out in a convincing fashion. But Sheldon is completely unaware of other people and deals with his own ticks. Paul was very aware of his surroundings and was even shown to be a decent leader in the scene where he's explaining the orbital concepts to the team. I agree he played some ingrained but not outright chauvinism that was mostly fueled by feeling threatened. Loved learning that Katherine is still alive!

I love this idea, an episode showing that Nick is crazy like a fox. He's definitely had his moments of clarity, but I think he gets a lot of enjoyment out of winding his friends up. I have a friend like that. Smart guy, but knows just what buttons to press and does it in a way that you can't help but love him because he does it so innocently.

S42.E14: Alec Baldwin / Ed Sheeran

Oh Ed Sheeren you adorable little Muppet -
This was a really good movie, in my opinion. And not that far off something like Hell or High Water which I watched last week. I didn't get the reveal of the girl with Autism being his "handler" but Going into the House scene I'd figured Braxton was his brother, my other thought was that he was Jeffrey Tambor's son who had taken him out considering he had ties to the Gambino family when Medina was looking into him. I'd thought it was ridiculous that King had managed to compile all this information on "The Accountant" but hadn't gotten a clear shot of his face in the surveillance photos, but the reveal basically tied that up. As an accountant myself I was pretty stoked that the nomenclature held up. I would have enjoyed seeing them jump down that hole a bit more. But I did appreciate the side stories.

It's out on my movie channels. It was a really good send up and I laughed at a lot of it. I'll always appreciate a good DJ Joke, so Owen and his iPod were fantastic. I'm really glad to see Edgar Blackmon getting some run too (Eddie). I saw him on Stage at The Second City Main Stage and was sure he was primed to break out.

It really frightens me that there are people out there that thought that Fox News was too liberal and thus dug out things like Info Wars and Brietbart, to fulfill their echo chamber, it's even worse that the President of the US is one of those people.

S42.E14: Alec Baldwin / Ed Sheeran

He was frequently dropping references to having a boat and basically it being a substitute for his *ahem* junk. I don't think he'll work as a recurring character, but it's nice to mix it up. -

After last week it was great to see Update go of completely smooth. I enjoyed Guy who Just Bought a Boat to mix it up a bit though. I like what they're hitting, but getting something off the political spectrum was fun. Alex and Beck are going to be in competition for who has the "least desirable junk" Cecily's Judge was great too! Please don't run Spicey into the ground, please don't run Spicey into the ground! -
S07.E16: Pōniu I Ke Aloha (Crazy in Love)
Traveller519 replied to BW Manilowe's topic in Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
Guys, I had fun with this one. The volleyball scene set to "Playing with the Boys" and Rob Huebel being his absolute John Calabas-iest were enough for some Friday night fun. But I also felt like the banter was a little more in check. It felt like what two Police partners who cared about one another, but we're being forced to spend time together outside of work by their girlfriends would go through. It was good to see that Steve had to take his lumps too, the "baller" comment, the volleyball match, and yoga. Though I'm sure McGarret would be fine at Yoga. I can hold those poses, and I am NO WAY in McGarret shape. 5-0 obviously pays well to be able to spring for the Hilton Presidential suite on Valentines -
Considering the Show's official Twitter page posted this Tweet I'm hoping enough people on the writing staff agree

S10.E15: The Locomotion Reverberation
Traveller519 replied to TheOtherOne's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
I think the plan to have Sheldon solve the problem with by having an incorrect solution would have worked, but the approach was wrong. They needed to put something semi-plausible on the white board and have Sheldon discover it himself. He wouldn't be able to help himself thanks to his obsessive need to have things completed. Putting it in front of him with gibberish tipped him off. A Better Solution would have been: to put some actual vector work into, which Leonard likely could have faked. Gone over to "help" Sheldon with the engine, then invite him over for a beverage when he realized how out of sorts he was and not once mention the board. -
Life In Pieces - General Discussion

As soon as Molly Shannon shows up you know where the plot is going. And it went there. Still it was good to see Greg as a semi-competent human being in how he planned the evening and managed the Chef. I liked the little call back to the "Heater" tattoo in the bumper preview -
"Man we went to see Prince of Tides and there wasn't even any surfing!"

I do enjoy how the show is reusing "Never Surrender"'s opening riff as Barry's power up song. Last seen during this Thanksgiving toast in Season 3 I believe.

I'm glad there was a nod to Clive and Juliana, but that they squashed it down fast. I think we've mined as much out of that one as we're going to get. They "twist" was pretty obvious from the set up but was still sweet. Especially the "quick change" with the confetti. That poor restaurant. I hope Claire paid them well! The Jay and Joe story was good too. Jay is seeing Joe as the little son he has always wanted. While he loves and will stand up for Mitchell and Manny, they're not the little buddy to play catch with he wanted. It was good that he could see some of his bad habits were also being passed along. One of the best little site gags was that Joe had his hand partway down his pants while he was watching TV. I've got a friend who's kids do that following dad's lead.

Very much on board with the reboot of Erica. I enjoyed that they went to the no make-up, sullen, appearance before they really got up and got going, but fully acknowledged that "This Year" she seemed really different. That and the "nobody cares about that stupid little feud" line were like balm for my Goldbergs Soul! They had a lot of the supporting characters in this one, despite missing out on Pops. The intervention was pretty great too, "Oh Okay, Barry's Interchangeable Friends!"
