  1. Who was the guy that Vilgefortz killed after he woke up from smashing his head into a log?
  2. I don’t mind Bobbi’s descent into criminal-dom, although I wasn’t paying enough attention to know exactly what sort of criminal stuff They were doing. It makes sense to me that she’d be looking for a crew in the way that she was accustomed to having in the marines, and that in her disillusionment (which has pretty deep roots) with her dream of Mars, she’d be able to convince herself to give it a try with Martians 11, assuming they weren’t doing anything too bad. Also didn’t take too much issue with Avasarala’s husband, although I thought his trajectory from loving husband to disillusioned husband was a little clunky. For the most part, I agreed with Avasarala about slowing their roll through the ring space and about the decision to go after the supposed OPA terrorist - as someone/s above said, her campaign advisors didn’t seem to have any sense of who she was. I look forward with interest to seeing how her successor handles things next season.
  3. I started out watching Mixed-ish and worked my way back to Black-ish (and have started on Grown-ish, but not very far in...) All caught up on Mixed-ish, but on Black-ish just finished season 3 episode 8, “Being Bow-racial”. In that episode, at least, the character of Bow’s father seems believably linked to who we see in Mixed-ish. The Black-ish version of Bow’s mom really doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the version of her mom we see in Mixed-ish. On this show she comes across as by far the more reasonable and realistic of the two. I also struggle a bit with how the Bow we see in Mixed-ish could turn into the adult Bow we see in Black-ish in certain episodes, like wanting a big ole ring for their vow renewal/first marriage - but I think that’s just a factor of watching the two shows more or less simultaneously. It’s not that hard to convince myself that if i watched a tv show of 13 year old me and current me at the same time, I’d be wondering “how’d that kid turn into that woman?!” Curious about the opinions of other viewers of both shows, so started a topic to give a general space to discuss
  4. I’m glad they gave Elsa some opportunities this year to show her strengths as a mother figure - sorting the clothes with Izzy and finding sad Potato Paige to encourage her. I think she actually said it this season, but she’s at her best when she’s needed. Likewise, Doug building up Evan after he finally mustered the courage to go on the ride-along was really sweet. Sam discovering the essence of a penguin and explaining it to his teacher was beautiful.
  5. I’ve committed to a lot of them with ABC. Invasion, Flashforward, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, Defying Gravity, Time After Time. I don’t know why i keep trying. https://decider.com/2018/04/04/abc-has-a-sci-fi-problem/ if this show really is on its way to cancellation, all i can say is its incredible cast and seemingly somewhat trope-defying writers were wasted on network TV, where pre-emptive cancellations have long been the status quo.
  6. I really appreciated the scene where Chris asked Jo why he was being side-lined, and she came clean with him. So often on these types of shows when someone feels like someone else is keeping a secret it turns i to some cloak and dagger investigation, and I find myself wondering why they don’t just utilize basic communication. I appreciated the writers bypassing the opportunity for unnecessary drama. Just in general, I appreciate that about this show.
  7. As man, Pat. The quintessential “nice-guy wronged”. Takes a lot to make me think of a Jason Ritter character as a huge loser, but they succeeded!
  8. Watching S2e3 now, about the girl bricked into the wall for 20 years. I have to say, I found Harrow’s impassioned rant to the guy who bricked her up regarding why he should turn himself in, given all the grief that he caused, to be a bit off-putting coming from someone who worked so hard to cover his tracks last season.
  9. Don’t know if you watched the documentary, but the voice actors talked about how this was different from animation work because instead of having animators fit the mouth movements to their delivery, they had to fit their delivery to how the puppets’ mouths were moving. I got the impression that they might have done it differently in some instances, but they were obliged to match it as it had been filmed
  10. YOTZ didn’t end up in my handle by accident! Nor did Pilot in my avatar
  11. I’m guessing because, as in the credits, they’re listing both the voice-actor and the puppeteer
  12. I just finished the documentary (The Crystal Calls) and thought it was well worth the time. Gave me a much greater appreciation for all they accomplished. I’m so happy they went with Lore as a puppet rather than straight CGI. What a beautiful creature! And his final hug for Brea might have left me a bit misty eyed.
  13. Word! And now she wants to go ON THE ROAD as a PI?! If I were her, I’d be forced out of the PI game now due to crippling self-doubt about my powers of observation. But i suppose as Logan so thoughtfully memorialized in his pre-mortem voicemail to his therapist “no matter how many times she gets knocked down, she always gets back up...” which brings me to my big issue with RT’s “this is what they need” theory - I personally do not need to just watch Veronica get shat on by the universe over and over and over. Maybe “noirs” just aren’t meant to last for decades. There comes a point where it’s just one too many terrible things. Logan’s death was stupid. I maybe could have dealt with a death that was in some way meaningful, but after spending so many years with this character, for it to end with “OOPS! Killed by the pizza man!” just feels wrong. And that wrong is compounded by all this “We just want a show where Veronica hits the road as a good-timing PI!” Logan’s death is hard, but they in NO WAY made it a ‘necessary’ death. They made it an inconsequential death en route to some endless vacation. Someone several pages back said it better than I did, but they’re selling Logan’s death as essential to their ‘noir’ premise, but all they’re talking about going forward is wanting to get to their fast-quipping fun detective-games in new locals. Can’t do it both ways. Slightly smaller quibble - but the end of Veronica and Keith’s new friendships also bummed me out.
  14. I read an interview with Nicole Fosse yesterday (NYT) and it said it was the reverse. Her husband died in the crash, then Verdon moved in to help Nicole with her three young sons, and died 8 weeks later.
  15. Were the lyrics Nicole sang at the end completely made up, or something from Pippin? I don’t know the show, so wasn’t sure. Wish i’d listened more closely, i thought they were interesting.
  16. Well, to be strictly accurate, the telepathic tree of the netherworld did mention him..
  17. Just finished season 2. I am not as off kilter as i was after finishing season 1 (honestly i could barely work the next day - i was like “WHAT EVEN IS REALITY?!”). I read some reviews that said this season was even weirder than season 1, but i disagree - in many respects it seems more straightforward. The story-telling format of Part 1 created a real sense of ambiguity, but Part 2 makes it clear that dimension-jumping through mystically-powered movements is a thing that’s possible. And i’m not complaining. I loved the confusing emotional power of part 1, but i really enjoyed the energy of part 2. I’m glad we got to see everyone from before - was so great to see the actor who played Prairie’s father in a brief scene (I believe i read that he has since passed away). I was not put off by anything. Not by - one of the great pleasures of this show is that it has me well conditioned to just go along with the “invisible river” of its narrative, without feeling the need to fight the current. I’m happy to float along and see where we end up. So mark me as one in the “well satisfied” camp. Hoping most sincerely for a Part 3.
  18. My thought while watching the scene where Isaac looked at Ty’s drawing and then dropped it was that he had scanned the image into his memory bank and then didn’t need the physical one anymore because he has a perfect replica of it in his mind. I was thinking that we’d get a scene in the second part where he recreates the image somehow, and Ty realizes that he DID value the picture - he just didn’t see a need to keep the “hard copy”. But everyone’s theory about Isaac being imitated in that scene also makes sense. I guess we’ll see! Either way, i hope the drawing gets mentioned again. My heart just broke for Ty when he was in that tree 😞
  19. If i was Delilah, i would not have even mentioned that letter to the kids. “Your father wanted us all to know how much he loved me...”
  20. I Hate Everything But You really resonated with me, and I’m going to make it the new song i sing to my dog, but maybe fiddle with the lyrics so it covers more of my top-hated things.

    S02.E07: Haunted

Count me amongst the weepers, cried like a child. City Slicker’s human partner seemed like a nice caring guy. I hope he and his new hunky-but-emotionally-damaged horse partner get a spinoff series.
  22. I thought the druid-primary’s take-down of Olivia made this episode wholly worthwhile. “You’re just a fool in a metal mask”, and all that. Excellent.
  23. My deep thought: While it’s definitely rude to throw any present away, a musical jewelry box with a spinning ballerina inside is a pretty terrible gift for a 16 year old, engraved or not.
  24. What happened to the polaroids of Chloe?? Did the lawyer not have them or know about them? Sorry, but when Chloe was like “oh i remember it was consensual” i’d have definitely shown her those pictures and been like “so this is you right after you consented? Drooling on the arm of this couch?” I can definitely understand a rape victim not wanting to come forward, but i’m struggling to believe as it becomes apparent that he’s raped any number of girls - and they all now know about each other - that not ONE of them is raring to look him in the eyes and call him a raping rapist. I mean really, NO ONE? It’s good to acknowledge that some survivors of sexual assault struggle to publically acknowledge what happened in the face of all that comes with doin so - but there ARE survivors who are like “lemme tell the world what pond scum that guy is”. I would think at the point they’re at in terms of their knowledge of what he’s done to each of them that they’d have some collective strength to call him out now that they didn’t when maybe they thought they were totally alone in what happened to them. I just don’t get it. Are they all planning to go to school with the guy for the rest of the year knowing that he’s a serial rapist?? I mean the evidence against him now is stacked a mile high - photos (assuming that the polaroids of Chloe are still out there, which i have to believe they are), a confession, multiple victims, at least one eye-witness - this is like the world’s most solid rape case - and still NOTHING?? What was believable when dealing with each individual case has become absurd in the aggregate.
  25. I will give it to them, I got misty eyed at a couple different points. It was a satisfying end to an uneven show - but any show with a musical theater element is worthwhile in my book! Now to wait a few years for the next short-lived attempt.
