Yeah, most of my parent's friend's, who were working professionals, lived in something similar. It's just funny when you look at shows like House Hunters today and what people think is the minimum for a starter home (at least 3000 square feet, granite, three car garage, etc.) as compared to back then.

Obviously, Mandy being on the boat was totally for the show. Sig's daughter seems like a great girl, but I can not help but wonder if there are women out there who really would have appreciated the opportunity? I know not many women could do this job, but the same holds true for men. I would have really liked to see a real female greenhorn with a genuine desire to be a crab fisherwoman.

This is going to be a strange question, but what do you guys think about the accuracy of Gordon and Donna's house? I think it is appropriate for what middle class looked like back then. It is kind of interesting that today they would probably living in some type of mcmansion.

Ramona has convinced herself that the reason Mario cheats is because women throw themselves at him and at a certain point any man who is that desired will cheat. She thinks that husbands that are faithful to their wives are weak willed losers, who no one but their wives want. Ramona believes jerks like Mario are ultimate alpha males and most women want to be with them. She probably thinks when Mario walks into a room, most women envy her for being with this great hunk of man. It's like those bitter women who claim all men will cheat given the chance. Stop trying to paint a gender with one brush just because you have horrible taste in men.

Phil Harris was spawned from the loins of Poseidon and any of his offspring lucky enough to bear a Y chromosome must fulfill their great crab fishing destiny or we will all be assumed by the Kraken. I actually really liked Phil, but Discovery is making his legacy a joke.

S09.E10: Skunk In The Barnyard
qtpye replied to Chit Chat's topic in The Real Housewives Of Orange County
I really like Shannon. I remember when she was talking about a light fixture that she got at the bargain price of $100.000, she was being authentic in that she was happy about what a good deal she got, not that she was trying to brag about how rich she was. If Nene from Atlanta, Sonya from NY, Teresa from Jersey, or Heather from the OC were talking about the same thing...it would be with a smug voice self satisfied voice that lets us little people know how much money they have to throw around. That being said I think Shannon's very privileged back ground ill prepared her for living in the real world. I think even though her husband came from a well off, if slightly blue collar background (nothing wrong with being blue collar) that her family was much more wealthy and she is slightly insecure that he married her for her money. This is pure speculation on my part as I really do not know much about their history. I do feel that Shannon is insecure about David's love and probably needs to be treated with gentle touch at all times...something that would eventually get exhausting for a man. Her nagging is frustration boiling over and like many dysfunctional couples they have no idea how to communicate in a healthy way. In contrast Heather and to some extent Lizzie have a lot of bite to them. Lizzie is from the supposedly very mean girl world of pageant and both have experience in the cut throat atmosphere of Hollywood. Even though Heather has had some modest success, both have that chip on their shoulder of actresses and actors whose careers have disappointed them and there are many since so few really "make it" in that field. -
I remember Heather's acting gig on the Jenni McCarty Show (sp?). I was kind of shocked that it was the same person, because her appearance had drastically changed and I do not mean in the aged naturally type of way. She used to have a very cute rounded face and now she is nothing but sharp angles, which seem to be sculpted into her cheeks and chin. With her somewhat bossy and pretentious personality, it gives a rather unpleasant affect.

That is what I want to know...what made her stop vandalizing the house. Was it seeing the neighbor made her realize that instead of being kick ass and rebellious, that she was just being pathetic and sad? Did her heart grow 3 sized in that scene? Did the neighbor see the car pull up and came in with the intention of killing Gordon or Donna? The show live and dies on how intriguing we find the mystery of Joe and so far it is falling flat

Did it feel like the show was trying to make us side with Jackie during the deception? I know Antoinette was not not a good sponsor, but she went from kind of a cool lady to crazy stalker. I think the show was trying to make us feel she had no life of her own and was gloaming on to Jackie. It was even kind of pathetic how getting dumped by Eddie (really?...he is not anything that great) was what caused her to drink after so many years. This is particularly true, since it has been implied many times that Eddie is into Jackie. To clarify...I kind of like Antoinette in the beginning but i feel tptb sort purposely messed up the character. whatever the reason, I still felt bad for her betrayal. I think Jackie is an attractive woman, but I can not figure out why the heck the drug dealer would want to go to a wedding with her. Most ladies can hardly get their steadies to go to weddings, as a lot of people find them boring, particularly if you do not know anyone. It is really befuddling since the last time they met, Jackie used his girlfriend's credit card to buy Gracie a dress.

House Hunters Renovation - General Discussion
qtpye replied to MsChicklet's topic in House Hunters Renovation
When we were building our house we had a want and need list and the want list. The need list always took priority. We spent money on insulation and other not glamorous things. Did anyone see the one were they installed this hideous green (i think it was marble) counter top? It looked like an aggressive fungus. -
I remember this person and she was quite a pill. However, I think this was an episode of My First Place not House Hunters. That show went more into the bargaining process while HH is more of we see three house and they go over the pros and cons of each location. Of course everything is fake, because it is the house is already bought and the other two are decoys.

I thought they were trying to say that the guy was getting promoted on a lot of Donna's hard work and Donna was stuck in a rut because she is a woman and there is a glass ceiling.... or her fucktard husband never helps her with anything and she can not devote the energy to her job needed to move up. It also could be a combination of these two. Everyone here seem to be having problems understanding what the hell is going on. It seems they are going for a Madmen type of story telling style, but instead of making the show intriguing it is actively just frustrating the audience.

I think I figured out what bothers me about Chip. He is so smug about how he is not dependent on anyone, but the truth is he is very dependent on the Native community that he married into, as he is not allowed to do much of the work needed for survival. Discovery had a show called Yukon Men, where a white man had married into a native family. The Yukon guy was much more bearable then Chip as he felt no need to give lectures about how superior his life style is to us poor slobs. Actually besides Chip, no one else on this show feels the need to do this, either. Everyone else acknowledges that they have chosen a hard road and that this is not a life that most people could take. Also, unless Chip makes his snowmobiles and guns out of caribou hide and seal oil, he is still very much dependent on the goods and services provided by the outside world. My children might not understand what I do at work, but they also are not worried about me falling through the ice or getting injured by one of my own fur traps. I do like Agnes and the kids. I could live without seeing Chip's fat dopey looking face ever again.

S09.E08: Not So Silent Night
qtpye replied to swankie's topic in The Real Housewives Of Orange County
I have been trying to wrap my head around Tams reaction to free publicity. The only thing I could think of is I know when Heather first came on, she insisted all her oppurtunities were because of her acting prowess and not a because she was on a housewife show. Maybe when she first hosted she only had on things not housewife related and the producers of the LA show suggested that if she wanted to host again, she better bring some HW stuff, because she is not interesting otherwise? Perhaps, this is why Tamara was being so vague about why she was angry as they are not allowed to break the fourth wall? I do not see how Heather would have any control of the segments and Tamara's anger makes no sense, if something like this were not true. However, Tamara could just be a black hole of ungrateful bitchiness. Vicki has talked about how she escaped to California for the good life and now moving away from her mother was the biggest mistake of her life. It is interesting how she twists narratives to fit whatever worldview she finds convenient at the time. -
Cindy was always acting like she was too busy or important for the show and audience. I think we all felt like Sonya at the toaster oven breakfast when Cindy could not bother to look up from her phone to have a conversation. Being busy is all well and good, but why sign up for this thing in the first place? I am flummoxed that her buisness plan was to become a reality tv star when she came off so bland and annoying on the actual show.

If bad behavior travels though bloodlines then Kandi and all her decendants are doomed, as the source of that river is MJ. However humble Todd's beginnings are, he deserved to be judged as a man in his own right. How would MJ like it if people refused to work with Kandi because of where she come from (MJ).

Did anyone think they dressed Dorian like Bono at the theatre?

I think what also gets Heather is that Shannon grew up legitimately wealthy. Heather, I am guessing, grew up upper middle class at best (not that there is anything wrong with that). She is always trying to ape the ways of what she thinks the old monied families of America act like (clam bakes and saying champs). Terry and her are very status conscious. I do not think Shannon is from old money, but I think she was pretty wealthy by regular people standards. So far, I like Shannon and how she owns her faults. I think growing up in privileged might have left her a tad bit over sheltered an not ready for the roughness of the real world.

It makes me wonder if everyone else has developed antifreeze in their bloodstream. His face is sometimes encrusted in ice and it does not seem to happen to anyone else.
-
Yeah, I do not think Jackie is all that into Frank, even though he has been good to her. I think she just does not want to be alone, particularly now that her ex has moved on.

I remember Elliot's dad saying something similar to the process server when he was looking for Elliot. I guess they do not realize that your responsibility for you children does not end when you stop sleeping with their mother. Also, I think we now know why he is so behind on his support...the money is going up his nose. I am sure the captains get tested before they go out to see, but maybe Elliot has methods of getting around the tests (buying clean urine)? At this point, I would not put it past the guy.

qtpye from twop I really hope that enough twop people are not constrained by the sectors of the time scale and come here. I really hope this will be our new home.
