You nailed it. Being a super-genius (who might actually be smarter than Sheldon if you look at their respective accomplishments) isn't enough for Leonard. He really, desperately needs the trophy wife for validation. Crazy thing is, it didn't necessarily have to be Penny. Both Priya and Dr. Stephanie were both accomplished and attractive enough (I've always found Sara Rue to be smoking hot) that he could have still gotten the recognition he needs - with the added bonus of folks thinking "damn, his woman is hot and brilliant."

No doubt in my mind that there will be a Season 3. My guess is TBS schedules Search Party production to accommodate Alia Shawkat's blossoming film career. I'm also betting that this show will be a big-time, "sleeper" winner in the next award season. So well done. What I'd like to see in Season 3 is more backstory on the four leads. So far Portia is the most developed; we know all about her low self-esteem and mother issues, etc. But what about the rest of the crew? Why did Dory see her life as so empty and devoid of purpose? Was Drew always the under-cover sociopath we've seen, or did this crisis bring out the worse in him? I'm pretty interested in Detective Joy's backstory too. Why was she so skittish? I'm still of the belief that there's some PTSD going on there. The knee brace indicates some recent injury - maybe a previous traumatic confrontation with a perp? If that's the case, why would her Captain send her out without a partner? Maybe I'm over-thinking here. That's the big problem with all these characters - they're such horrible liars who take things too far. Detective Joy already caught Fat Frankie moving counterfeit money (even though she didn't have the evidence she saw his accomplice), that alone would have justified the shoot-out. There was absolutely no need to add that FF claimed he killed Keith. It's going to come back and haunt her, but I doubt that it gets Dory and crew off the hook.

FH and ME are definitely infusing some ad-libbing into their scenes and I love it! When Finn took that huge bite out of the Gingerbread Man and Anna noted, "that's very childish, isn't it, taking a big bite like that?" Finn seemed surprised and almost immediately started taking small, dainty bites.
-
Both actors seemed to be having fun and even ad-libbing a bit. Finola seemed to be surprised when Finn tossed the stack of towels past her and onto the couch. And her comments about Finn "stalking" and "moping" around were LOL, too. And the topper was "a lot of men want to get with this." Priceless.

Season 2: Yes, I Did Watch It All
Winston Wolfe replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Search Party [V]
I had the same thought. I also wondered if they have a third season (fingers crossed!) they may go the split personality route with Dory. I say this because in the final shot when she's in the cop car she's looking at her reflection in the mirror and there's a crack in it that splits her face in two. Interesting theory. The thing is Drew actually killed Keith, not Dory. Although the guilt Dory feels is probably her realizing that she's ruined her friends lives. Given how unstable she's appeared this season, my guess is that Dory actually did throw April overboard. I have a feeling April's body will wash ashore in Brooklyn and Dory may have a second murder hanging over her head. -
From his first second on-screen he had "cult leader" written all over him. I mentioned that further up on this page. The Lady Detective seems very high-strung and jitterish. Wonder if there's some PTSD in her backstory? Anyways, she's certainly on to the fab four who, when it all hits the fan, are notoriously bad liars. And they're not getting any better with practice.

There's a saying I recently heard for the first time, "hurt people hurt [other] people." From their own backstories, Leonard, Howard, Sheldon, Amy, Raj, and Bernadette (probably to a lesser degree) were all tormented by others in their formative years. The behavior we see is likely them "paying the pain forward" when dealing with each other. For the most part, it's just mean-spirited and not harmful for the audience's entertainment.

That was kind of my point, actually. You would think that Howard would best understand how these things can kind of unravel and turn into something toxic. And its not like he had the most self-confidence in the world either until he became an Astronaut.

Curb Your Enthusiasm - General Discussion

I'm old enough to remember this John Houseman commercial: "Smith Barney. They make money the old-fashioned way - they eaaaarn it," lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl9Cyn266Lo Chiming in late to say that I mostly liked this season, except like some other posters I feel that LD went way, way overboard with the guest stars. Casey Wilson's part, much as I like her, could have been filled by any day-player. Has she been on Curb before? It's almost like LD wasn't sure if there would be a Season 10 and wanted to squeeze in everyone he likes or ever wanted to work with. -
Of all the leads, Howard should be the most sensitive to Raj's feelings. Sheldon used Howard as a punching bag for much of the first eight or nine seasons until Bernadette and Penny, of all people, intervened. When Howard, Raj, and Leonard signed an agreement for the guidance system and Penny/Bernadette basically made Sheldon agree to a non-aggression clause that would make Sheldon stop belittling Howard. Also, the "Leonard is so lucky to have Penny" trope needs to be retired too. Looking at it objectively, what's so super-great about Penny? She's a cute Blonde with a decent-enough figure, not the second coming of Marilyn Monroe (no offense to the actress). Geek or not, Leonard is decent-enough looking that he probably could have found comparable alternatives to Penny if he tried hard enough.

We know what's going to happen: Imra sacrifices her life to help defeat Reign and BOOM! path cleared for Kara/Mon-El part Deux.

As Captain Janeway always said "Temporal mechanics, it gives me a headache."

The View has been a guilty pleasure of mine for years. However, it's time for them to re-think the "token conservative" slot. I've no problem with that voice being heard, that's what America is about. But does the View's GOP representative always have to be angry, dour-faced, empty-headed talking point vessels like Megan and Bitsy? It doesn't make for good entertainment or even pleasant television. I'm sure it's possible to get a conservative voice that's reasonable and can behave like a normal, rational, compassionate human being. When it comes to representing the conservative point of view, folks like Megan and Bitsy are, as Bill Maher one said, "not the best advertisement for their own product."

You may be correct. Besides being a woman scorned, she's also thoughtless and inconsiderate of others. As I said in a previous post, she'll dime them out in a minute. Wouldn't be surprised if she already suspects something. My second guess would be Agnes Cho, looking for Blackmail money. Hey Milburn Stone! I was with you for a while there regarding your feelings about the core four. But after Drew's antics last night, I'm of the mind that Portia is the only one who's not a garbage person. To Drew's credit though, he kind of saw this coming and did everything possible to warn Dory off last season. Although where Drew's current behavior is concerned, I co-sign on JoJos' observation that hurt people hurt other people. Basic human nature. Drew did have a great insight into Dory's personality. She needs the drama, the adventure of these situations to fill the huge, gaping void she feels in her life. By her own admission, she never felt more alive as when she was working with Keith, running off with stolen "evidence." I'd really like to see how they avoid prosecution, given the neon-bright, incandescent trail of evidence they're leaving literally everywhere. Not to mention the guilty behaviors and borderline (as well as actual) nervous breakdowns from Dory and Drew. As another poster pointed out, I have a hunch that its the shovel purchases that will ultimately be their undoing.

It occurs to me that the Earth-X Nazis are really, really dumb. Let's head-cannon and say that Evil Kara's solar energy build up was a result of ill-considered experiments to amplify her powers ("let's just say that like Icarus I flew to close to the Sun"). That being the case, she could have easily "vented" the excess solar radiation with periodic Nova-bursts of Heat Vision. There's even a Marvel Universe precedent for this theory; back when Havok (Cyclops' younger brother) was introduced, he would periodically shed excess cosmic energy by walking into the desert and releasing massive amounts of energy in a single shot. Evil Kara could easily have done the same thing.

They got married on the same day of a funeral for man who sacrificed himself so that they could live. Instead of honoring him they wanted to make it about themselves that day. I don't see anyone really criticizing them for that if they are really worried about optics and what's considered 'rude'? Here's a different take that no one's offered so far: maybe Oliver/Felicity and Barry/Iris wanted to honor Stein by doing something life-affirming, like getting married. Since the scene didn't effect me as much as some others here, mine is a kind of detached perspective...

Mick's kinda like a food-a-holic Wolverine without the charm, lol. Or the talent.

I'm a long-time GG fan, but have to admit, no matter what role she's cast in Lauren's pretty much always playing herself. -

She's matured a bit and fulled-out some, especially in her face. In her first scene with LD I actually mistook her for Valerie Bertinelli for a second. -
Best part of Episode One for me! Haven't seen that trick since an old Hulk comic from the 70s. Nice to see Kara come up with some new gimmicks!

Curb Your Enthusiasm - General Discussion

They didn't seem to be too different from their regular faces, lol. Difficult to imagine Susie Greene as someone who would even like, or want to have sex. -
Hilarious but so true! It's almost like they want to get caught. Their many lies are flimsy and won't stand up to repetition, and other than Portia they're all nervous wrecks. Fingerprints and forensic evidence everywhere, and Dory better hope her former Boss was too drugged-out to remember the confession. Chantal seems to be a morally ambiguous garbage person and it won't take much for her to roll over on them. Julian clearly senses that something sketchy is going on, resulting in the future confrontation with Dory that we saw in last week's previews. The fun here is going to be seeing how they somehow avoid jail time. Realistically, with all the breadcrumbs they've left, I don't see how. The irony here lies in Dory's mental instability and Drew's jealousy-driven clue-lessness. He clearly walked in on Keith attacking Dory, if they hadn't gone for the grand cover-up immediately, there might have been a way out of this.
-
Lots of parallels to the Good Place, I think. Guess I relate to the core four because they remind me of myself at a comparable age. Doing some crappy stuff because I really didn't know any better. Of the four leads, I'm connecting with Portia the most: innocent, naive, she really seems to have an open, honest heart. Elliott's a manipulative, cunning little bitch, lol. Love this show because it's not easy to predict how things will turn out. Even though they left a neon trail of evidence in their wake (across two countries), will they actually get away with this?
-
I think they believe they're good people. Like most of us, they actually want to be good people. But because of a combination of youthful ignorance, arrogance and millennial "know-it-all" -ism, they're falling waaaay short. Maybe - if they somehow miraculously avoid jail - Keith's murder will put them on the path to becoming good people for reals?
-
On second watching I agree with everyone here; Chantal is basically as bad as Dory and her crew. Although it may have been said for the wrong reason, Portia was spot on saying the lying about abuse is the absolute worst. Given how poorly their tracks were covered, this shouldn't end well for Dory and friends. But I'm hoping the producers don't go too far down the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" road. Also, I see from the previews that Dory's asshole ex-boyfriend is back this Sunday. Ugh.
