  1. Well no one is ever going to accuse her of being subtle!
  2. She may be crushed to learn how many people out there also have absolutely no idea who she is.
  3. And I blame a lot of that on texting, email or personal messaging. Most of us never think to pick up a phone anymore -we type out our issue and a lot of nuance gets lost that way. Things come off sarcastic that you didn't intend to be sarcastic or comments you thought were funny are taken seriously. That kind of thing. I have seen more family feuds get started because of a few ill chosen comments on FB then I ever saw when people were gathering actually talking around a dinner table!
  4. My daughter's first part -time job was as a cashier at Farm Boy. I think that's a chain somewhat local to Ottawa. Anyway the cashiers all had to memorize all the codes. And of course the codes would get changed regularly, just to make it harder. I wouldn't have lasted two days in that job!
  5. This is the reason I was expecting more from them, not MM of course, but the rest. Essentially a teenager cannot even get vaccinated for polio or tetanus without parental permission and how likely is that to happen if the parents never followed the routine vaccine schedule most of us did for our kids? Not likely. It's not "just" Covid we're talking about here.
  6. I expect they probably will get a conservative but if they can at least get someone polite enough not to monopolize the conversation or insult the guests I will be happy.
  7. I have been known to eat a whole pan of brownies. Which is why centre or edge, it doesn't matter. It's also why I don't bake them anymore.
  8. I wish the guests wouldn't do this - and almost all of them do to some degree or another - but if they're going to do this it would be nice if MM bought a clue about how it's possible to be courteous, even nice, to people you disagree with politically. It's not hard.
  9. So I'm watching Christmas Next Door, enjoying it for the most part but then they have the inevitable misunderstanding. Which, of course almost always happens, but this time it's just so stupid. April sees him with his ex girlfriend, he gives her a peck on the cheek for heavens sake! and immediately April assumes they are back together and him being nice to her and wanting to be with her means he's a two-timer? Honestly. If they're going to have the Big Misunderstanding I wish they'd make more effort to make it believable. If April believes this why doesn't she say something?? Also - a pet peeve about these movies - how does someone who teaches music part-time and plays violin in a restaurant afford a house next door to a best selling author???
  10. I hope that's true because I think she's going to be on her own a lot more in the future.
  11. I have heard of life coaches, or thought I had. I had no idea they were con artists! The thing I notice some of my family falling for are psychics. A few of them are always posting crap their psychic has told them. I'm absolutely positive this info they are getting isn't coming cheap.
  12. My Dad sold his condo last night. It's a weird feeling. This was the apartment they moved to long after I had married and left home - but they've lived there for almost 20 years now so it still feels very much like 'home' for me. My mother is now living in an assisted living facility and my Dad will likely move there with her and get a bigger unit (no way in this world could they co-exist in what is essentially one room!!!). Anyway now I do have one less worry for down the road which was me being the one having to sell the place either for them or after they were both gone. What I do have to deal with now is what to do with the contents of the place. I am not looking forward to that.
  13. Pet peeve of the day: people who lie to my face (well virtual face) about something that I can so easily check. I do not understand this. At all.
  14. Only on TV have I ever seen people assume someone is single because they don't have a wedding ring on. Not everyone even has a wedding ring in the first place and there are lots of reasons why someone who does have one chooses not to wear it (age does no one any favours - including the size of one's fingers for instance!). Anyway only on TV is it a truth universally acknowledged that if one is married one wears a ring.
  15. Yep, same reason most people seem to take their coffee black. The extra time of getting out milk and sugar and adding it is just wasted time usually and they don't want to bother showing that.
  16. Probation is a slap on the wrist for sure but it's not surprising for these kinds of crimes. Even if he'd got jail time it probably wouldn't have been much. We had a recent case here when a man with an almost 50 year history of domestic violence was convicted of stalking, harassment and sexual assault of two women over a period of several years and he got a grand total of 4 years. Violent crimes over an extended length of time and he got 4 years. No wonder victims don't speak up.
  17. Same. My only exception is ice cream. I don't know why but ice cream just tastes better straight out of the carton! But I only do this with the smaller Ben & Jerry size containers!
  18. Just watching Project Christmas Wish - am about to the point where the inevitable misunderstanding has to happen. I'll be interested to see what they do. Overall I've been enjoying this - good cast with excellent chemistry. The daughter is great, not cloyingly adorable and able to act, double bonus. The woman who plays Lucy is really good. Looks like a real person which is a nice touch! I don't know how I missed seeing this one last Christmas.
  19. I can cope with more extreme politically - as long as that doesn't mean ruder, nastier and more selfish. If ABC wants to promote an even more negative image of conservatives for their viewing audience I guess it's possible they would go this route.
  20. Noticed this again on a show last night - people taking milk or orange juice out of a fridge and drinking directly from the container and then putting it back in the fridge. I concede there are thoughtless people in real life who would do this but surely not as many as TV would have us believe? I mean it's pretty disgusting. Even pre-Covid would people - full grown adult people - actually do this with beverages meant to be shared by the family?
  21. "Don't let a suitcase full of cheese be your big fork and spoon." From Everybody Loves Raymond, and surprisingly applicable in many situations. "Hands off girls, he's mine." Also from Everybody Loves Raymond - and used whenever my husband does something particularly eye roll worthy (like today when he wore steel toed boots with his shorts to do some gardening). "You see how he dotes on me." From Frasier, originally said by Frasier's agent Bebe after her fiancee has suggested Frasier use electric shock therapy to cure her smoking habit.
  22. The ratings drop may have been because she came out (I honestly don't know) - but I stopped watching because the show itself just wasn't funny anymore.
  23. I have a young relative who has to coment on news stories and ends up getting into online spats with total strangers as a result. I see this because it ends up on her FB newsfeed (which is one of the reason she is now blocked on MY FB page). Anyway she thinks she is the equivalent of a university professor and she's lecturing the masses. I guess the thumbs up she does get are a thrill for her but I think she genuinely believes she is bringing enlightenment to the world. She can't see that (a) no one is going to change their minds about something based on what she says and (b) she's not as smart as she thinks she is and when she pompously posts this is revealed to all.
  24. Just World Hypothesis Even people I love and respect have been known to spout off like this when I am watching the news with them. If something bad happens to someone they have this knee jerk to assume the victim did something wrong that invited trouble.
  25. I love Jamie Lee Curtis - I'll keep the mute button handy (to block MM) and watch Wednesday for sure.
