  1. Thinking more about this show and I realized I had no idea when I was originally watching it that there had ever been episodes with Mike and Uncle Bub or, for that matter that they'd ever lived anywhere but California. I distinctly remember the first episode I ever saw involved Ernie getting lost and meeting Zsa Zsa Gabor. Checking out the IMDB I see that this episode was from 1968 and the 8th season. I know I saw episodes before Robbie and Katie get married so those I must have seen when the show was in eternal re-run loop for a few years there. Did they show the pre-California shows in reruns back then and I just never saw them?
  2. I had to look this up because I didn't know who Fergus was! I guess I must have completely stopped watching the show by the last year because I don't remember that story arc at all. It sounds pretty dreadful!
  3. For some reason the topic of this show came up in conversation between my husband and I the other day, we agreed we didn't like the Robbie Katie marriage, especially them having triplets, and, didn't like the Steve Barbara marriage, especially adding Dodie into the family but the LAST STRAW and what made the show Not Must See TV was the haste to marry off Chip with Polly. It's been years since I saw the show and I may be remembering it wrong but I think the only reason they got married was that Polly wasn't happy at home.
  4. In the flashback episodes I think we see that Debra didn't really know what she was letting herself in for! She saw Marie and Frank as caring and loving people. I love the episode where Amy finally gets an idea of what Marie is really like and has this horrorstruck look on her face and Debra says. "I remember that look. That used to be me."
  5. We've just cycled around to the earlier seasons on the channel I get this show on and Alan was so different, He was tightly wound and fussy but he wasn't cheap and he was staying with Charlie because he genuinely thought he'd be getting back with Judith - thn he ends up staying because Charlie screws up with the lawyer and Alan gets taken to the cleaners**. Up to then it made sense that Charlie put up with a lot because he felt he owed Alan and because he wanted to keep seeing Jake. By the end of the Charlie years though it made absolutely zero sense that Charlie didn't throw Alan out on his cheapskate ass! **This part of the show has me rolling my eyes so hard I've probably done permanent damage to my vision! Charlie and Evelyn are loaded - there is no way they wouldn't have been able to pay for a new lawyer for Alan and get that ridiculous alimony agreement tossed!
  6. Whoopi's IMDB page She actually has a lot more recent acting gigs then I realized. I knew about The Stand but wasn't aware of the others.
  7. That's a good point but for me what stands out in this situation isn't that so much as that Federline has apparently been living off the child support payments, not using it to supplement his income the way most parents do, if true he's in for a rude awakening. I totally agree that the custodial parent should absolutely not have to account for how every penny is spent (I know way too many controlling jerks who figured a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter dropped off once a week was more than enough 'child support') but in the case of the super rich the person on the receiving end would be well advised to invest the money wisely because it inevitably must end.
  8. They actually do a nod to this in one episode where Chelsea and Charlie are watching TV and Alan joins them and the show they are watching is The Odd Couple. Alan says he never liked that show: "Well, I didn't buy the premise. Who would put up with somebody who drives them crazy for all those years? I mean, it would be different if they were related."
  9. I get this but in some ways is this the best situation given that it has to be temporary? I mean theoretically the sons Federline and Spears have together will always have a different life style from Federline's other children but especially when the child support money runs out. Giving the other children a lifestyle their own parents can't support, possibly within the next 4 years, seems a little unfair. But hopefully Federline has made sure that the house is paid off and he can keep things going even without the child support because if it's true that he is only making about $3000 a month (I thought that's what I heard) there is going to be a really big change coming otherwise!
  10. Yep he has certainly managed to maintain a very nice lifestyle for a long time but he had to know it couldnt' be a permanent thing. Or you'd think that anyway. It's interesting how many women (yes in my case it was always women) I knew who divorced when the kids were small counted on that monthly cheque being a permanent situation. Reality check. Kids grow up and if you think child support lasts forever you are in for a big day of reckoning.
  11. I just checked and saw that Spears sons are now aged 14 and 15. Hope Federline has been saving some of that child support because at least in theory in about 4 years he's going to be losing that income.
  12. Apologies aren't magic that causes people to forget an incident - they are an opportunity for a person to say they messed up and they're sorry. I guess she could go live in a cave for a year or something and hope people really do forget about her and what she said but otherwise an apology makes sense,
  13. I stopped watching a British soap I had followed for years because at one point almost every single woman between the ages of 13-50 on that show was either pregnant, contemplating pregnancy or was afraid they were pregnant due to rape or a night of drunken sex or whatever. It was like they couldn't possibly come up with a storyline for a woman that didn't involve a visit to a gynaecologist.
  14. This. A million times. Just once I'd like the PTB to hold MM's feet to the fire and make it clear that she's going to be held to the same standard everyone else on the show is held to. When, if, that happens I will go back to being a regular viewer again. I'm not holding my breath.
  15. I'll take the inappropriate joke over sanctimonious self righteousness any day of the week.
  16. Being pro-life is such an easy position to take. It requires no special bravery and you don't get credit for holding that position. She'd be much more of the kind of maverick she aspires to be if she took a pro choice position but that would actually require her to really swim upstream.
  17. If Biden were actually trying to impose his personal religious beliefs on the country MM would be ranting about that. Why does ABC not see that she isn't offering a genuine conservative voice here?
  18. We actually did order from the same place 3 or 4 times over the course of a month or two even though each time they managed to mess up something. We wanted to be good about helping keep local businesses going during the pandemic. But honestly the more they screwed up the more it seemed like we cared more about them staying in business than they did!
  19. I was an adult in 1999/2000 and my husband worked in IT but even so for a second or two after I started reading your post I was blanking out on what Y2K meant! I agree with @shapeshifter that it was a big deal that basically fizzled out into a nothing deal by 12.01 am on the Jan 1, 2000! I took my grandchildren to the Science and Technology Museum in the before pandemic times and they were fascinated by the display of "ancient" telephones. They had never seen a rotary phone before and had no idea how it worked. Their reaction was similar to mine at the same age when I first came across an old style crank phone.
  20. Most of Mary Stewart's romantic suspense novels would make excellent movies but the only one AFAIK that was ever made into a movie was The Moonspinners. It was made by Disney back in the '60s with Hayley Mills in the lead. The movie itself was ok but the only things it had in common with the book were the title and the setting. The plots as they exist would work just fine for a movie but I guess the PTB disagree!
  21. A recent news story reminded me of an episode of King of Queens which, incidentally was probably the LAST episode I ever watched. Carrie, for some reason (I think because she thinks she's getting old) is upset because the guys working on a construction site she passes aren't wolf whistling and catcalling her. IIRC Doug pays some of them to do that to her to make her feel better. I cannot find the words to convey how angry this episode made me. It also led to one of my usual wonderings - do women write this stuff? and how do the actresses feel when they do an episode like this?
  22. Thanks guys. It really does help to have a place to vent and get some support. I'm fine now but it took a few days to get there!
  23. So disappointed. One of the women I worked with at my last library is retiring in August and in the before times (pre pandemic) I had expressed interest in being considered for this job when it became available. Well today I got an email from the supervisor asking me a bunch of questions about how to go about organizing some specific training for that position - not for me but for the person who was hired to replace her. I know there was no guarantee of getting this job but I am a little upset (okay a LOT upset) that I was never even given the chance to apply.
  24. And they cannot win. After the infamous Oprah interview with Meghan and Prince Harry I read a lot of snide comments about Meghan and the probable cost of the dress she was wearing. I remember thinking at the time if she'd worn something cheap (for a celebrity) they'd have torn her to pieces for that - as it was wearing something costly also got her torn to pieces. Never heard a peep about the probably cost of whatever the hell Harry was wearing! And I hate to say this but I am betting most of the comments were from women. Our own damn worst enemy sometimes.
  25. Same. I don't understand the cult of hate that seems to happen around various celebrities.
