I'm probably their target audience if they think the audience is over 60 and those commercials bug the hell out of me too. I always know I'm watching a show the advertisers expect to veer towards the old geezer set when I see a ton of commercials featuring Kurt Browning trying to sell me on getting a CHIP mortgage (not sure if the US has a similar thing - "Access Up To 55% of Your Home Equity in Tax-Free Cash") My husband now officially hates Kurt Browning!

If she had a bunch of people auditioning - and especially giving them week long try outs that were being broadcast - and then picked herself I think we'd be talking about what a crappy thing that was to do. Casting yourself in your own show that you created to be your show isn't really comparable to what seems to have happened here.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
WinnieWinkle replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
What's driving me crazy is the war some of my friends are waging with what they choose to call "the millenials" which it appears seems to mean "everyone younger than me". I do get that many younger people have some problems with the "boomers" (and frankly I can't really blame them) but even so making everything a blanket putdown of another generation is just annoying as hell to this boomer! -
I've reached the 10th book in the series, liked some better than others but enjoying them so far but the weird thing is with the exception of the first title I don't remember any of the books! I mean it's like I never read them and I know I certainly read most of them. I know I definitely overdosed on cozies back in the day but you'd think I'd remember some of the plots at least a little! Eminently forgettable stories I guess.

With the exception of Mr Miracle I've liked the Hallmark adaptations of Debbie Macomber's books, They do take a few liberties, usually dropping some characters and changing things a bit but mostly the movies are recognizable. I agree with you about the last Mrs Miracle books - I can't remember any romance in that. If memory serves the main plot is a couple who want a baby and end up (spoiler in case anyone wants to read the book)

Comfort Food Books: Which Ones Call You Back, Again and Again?
WinnieWinkle replied to CalamityBoPeep's topic in Books
Same. I love the last 3 books best - Long Winter, Little Town and Happy Golden Years - and re-read them over and over for years. Didn't really go back to the earlier ones as much. Anyway I never thought of The Long Winter as dull - lots of exciting things happen in it for one thing - but IMO it was the best written of all the books, definitely a page turner! -
My mother became a nurse in the '50s because that was what her parents wanted for her. End of discussion! Nursing is just not something you should ever do because it makes someone else happy!

Future Co-Hosts Talk and Speculation: Musical Chairs

I don't know what impact Whoopi leaving might have but I do know when Joy was off the PTB realized pretty quickly that they'd screwed up! -
Why do shows do this???? I can think of so many examples where they decide to dumb down a character after the first few seasons. I guess on a sitcom it's a way to get laughs and you don't need to bother giving the character any decent storylines - just have them be so stupid it's hard to believe they can walk and talk at the same time and the audience will love it?

So she doesn't trust the vaccine, Fine. The question remains why wouldn't she get a Covid test? Doesn't trust a Q tip either?

Future Co-Hosts Talk and Speculation: Musical Chairs
WinnieWinkle replied to mtlchick's topic in The View
Unless The View has decided that its future lies in bringing on hosts who have unsavoury backgrounds (well sleazy really) I'm not too worried about Guilfoyle. -
It also makes it even less logical that she would have been under conservatorship in the first place - or certainly for so long - being a drama queen would not, one would think require you to have your entire life so closely supervised. Either she has genuine mental health issues that have neccesitated this or else she doesn't.

Future Co-Hosts Talk and Speculation: Musical Chairs
WinnieWinkle replied to mtlchick's topic in The View
That was my thought as well. It's got nothing to do with her family connections and everything to do with her apparently being fired over allegations of sexual misconduct. I just can't see ABC looking past a charge like that to put her on a show like The View. -
Future Co-Hosts Talk and Speculation: Musical Chairs
WinnieWinkle replied to mtlchick's topic in The View
Possibly true - but are those tuning in doing so because of MM and the toxic attitude she displayed during her time on the show? If it's her then time will tell and the ratings will drop. I don't think we can say with any real certainty that the good ratings are because people are watching MM because they like her or alternatively because they are hatewatching because they despise her and want to see what she's going to say next. -

Ah, my husband has a long lost brother! It's just annoying as hell to have someone who wakes up at 6.30 even on week-ends and whose idea of sleeping in is 8 am. I've crunched the numbers and I really don't sleep any more than he does in an average night but because he gets up early, while I prefer to stay up late he's the one with bragging rights!! -
Thank you for posting this. So Chet Hanks is a jerk - welcome to the world of most families where at least one member of the family is that one - the one you only invite over when you have to, the one you never loan money to, the one you never get into a political discussion with. I've known far too many families where one kid was a total screw up and the other kids were just fine - yet if anything is said it's always "where did the parents go wrong" about the screw up - no one ever seems to say "wow those parents raised a couple of great kids, what great parents they must be".

Future Co-Hosts Talk and Speculation: Musical Chairs
WinnieWinkle replied to mtlchick's topic in The View
I know that powers that be won't care as I'm Canadian and I guess my viewership doesn't count but I am one viewer who was a regular watcher until MM came along. The all too brief maternity leave was what brought me back to the show and I pretty much stopped watching once she was back. When I did watch I had the mute button handy for when she spoke, and spoke, and spoke. -

If she is hired this will confirm my personal theory - that MM was encouraged to behave the way she did as a way to make the republican party look bad. -
I liked that he was really just the other side of the coin from Archie - which from what I've read was a deliberate choice. And they made him worse than Archie really - at least Archie never cheated on Edith!! I didn't see this show much - my parents weren't fans, they were never fond of shows that featured the main characters shouting at each other all the time! Catching it in reruns later, I agree it did not age well. Same with Maude and Designing Women and even to some extent Murphy Brown, Probably a few others I'm blanking out on - if you make a sitcom that focuses too much on social issues of the day and on politics it's not likely to stand the test of time well IMO.

Does he have any income aside from the child support? I've known women who supplemented their income with child support (and a few who honestly didn't seem to think this "extra" money would ever end) but there was no way child support in a typical family would ever be enough to support the family. Of course we're not talking about a typical family here!
