  1. This is the part that I really don't understand. I could get paying him more if we're talking someone really big, someone so awesome that the viewership will skyrocket as a result (George Clooney? Dwayne Johnson?) but I mean no disrepect to O'Connell's career when I say the only recent thing he did I can think of was guesting on Big Bang Theory. Not exactly a reason to pay him more than the others I wouldn't have thought.
  2. One item that I really like for the convenience is frozen chopped onions. Not expensive either - certainly not when you consider how many onions you throw out because they got gross sitting in your fridge too long - well how many I used to throw out of my fridge anyway! Peeve of the day: Neighbour who just bought one of those ATV deals that is super loud and they feel the need, apparently, to circle the block multiple times a day in it. Hopefully they will tire of their expensive new toy soon.
  3. Just read on The Talk forum that the new male co-host is going to be paid MORE than the women currently on the panel, Of a show that up to now was always hosted by women. If that doesn't scream "It's Like Feminism Never Happened" then I don't know what does.
  4. That's exactly what I was thinking. The optics here really stink.
  5. I haven't see the article you referenced. Would you mind saying what about the call left people demoralized? I am going on a limb and suspecting Richards was trying to bully people but I find it so hard to believe that someone in his position at the time wouldn't have been trying to make nice and put on a "see what a nice guy I am" persona. Mindboggling!
  6. It sounds like it was less fan pressure and more internal stress that finally got him canned. Either way I'm not feeling much sympathy. I could have been a little more "hey let's move on" had the things he said been in the distant past and voiced as a teenager. Learning that they were voiced fairly recently  another grown ass man who figured he could say and do anything he wanted about anyone he wanted and never have consequences just found out different.
  7. Today's peeve - well actually last night's: grocery stores that let their youthful employees choose the music that is piped in. Trust me the place I go caters to a fairly sedate rural/small town population of mainly over 50s - we do not want to be serenaded by rap music while we shop. I guess the person picking the music may have wanted to encourage us to fill our carts and get the hell out. If so, kudos, it worked!
  8. I'm looking forward to the day when even the Internet isn't going to care about any opinion she has on anything, She's still coasting from MyFather and being on The View but eventually even that won't get her a mention anywhere.
  9. I missed this - what happened exactly? I am so glad if the powers that be are finally listening to the other hosts and not taking their lead from troublemakers!
  10. Appliance pet peeve - the house we bought last year has stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. Super trendy and way more high end than I ever would have bought for myself and believe me if they ever need to be replaced it will be with good old white appliances. I am so sick of how smudgy and just plain unkempt the damn things always look! I have no intention of adding "wipe down stove, fridge and dishwasher three time a day" to my routine so I live with smudge. But I'm not happy about it!
  11. My husband works in a hospital forgodssake and for the last year he and his colleagues have been providing their own soap for the employee bathroom they use. I am hoping the bathrooms in the main part of the hospital are better stocked than what they provide for the 'behind the scenes' people working there!
  12. What was really bad though when you think about it was he also told people she drank too much and told the other Barone's she was out of control with the spending. I'm sure the writers never gave this much thought but it's no wonder Marie had serious concerns about Debra based on what Ray was telling her!!
  13. Do you have a laundry room in your house? A few years ago I started noticing a smell and couldn't figure out what it was. Changing the filter to an odour reducing one helped but eventually the smell would come back. Anyway eventually I finally tracked it down and it turned out the smell was coming from the pipes attached to the washing machine. I put some vinegar (or bleach? blanking out now on what I used, something strong!) directly down it and then made sure to do that on a regular basis afterwards. Smell gone.
  14. I watched Coronation Street (British soap opera) for years and years. Huge fan. Never missed an episode and then a few years ago I just snapped. It was partly one too many serial killer plots and one too many happy marriages ending miserably but what really sent me into that rage spiral was when I realized that every single woman between 12 and 50 was either pregnant, wanting to be pregnant, planning an abortion or kidnapping someone else's child because she'd lost her own baby. I just went cold turkey and never looked back. I do wonder sometimes how things are going for Ken and Rita but not enough to tune in!
  15. If I can overcome my feelings about going to a theatre right now then I'd definitely want to see this!
  16. I liked this as well and in the early years of the show I thought they handled this really well. One thing that bothered me more in the last few years of the show was the way Ray became such a horndog to the point where he didn't care anymore what impact Marie's meddling would have on Debra or on the kids. The Angry Sex episode where Marie wants to take the boys to get a haircut comes to mind. Ray doesn't care at all that Marie is insulting their parenting (well mainly Debra's of course) or that Debra is insulted and hurt. All he wants is sex.
  17. If they ever explained who looked after the kids that day I must have missed it. And since I have watched most of these shows many many times I really don't think I did! You are left to assume that it was Ray watching the kids which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!
  18. It was so stupid. I did sympathize with Debra - been there, done that in terms of going back to work after being home with kids - but there were way better ways to handle that then making Debra so unreasonable on her first freaking day. I mean obviously they had no intention of having Debra work, although 2 days a week wouldn't have interfered with the show at all -Ray, Robert and Amy all work full-time and manage to be home most of the time!
  19. I never saw Ray and Debra as being unhappy people. Ray is written as the eternal pessimist and Debra certainly has been frustrated by Ray's lack of concern for the house and the kids and, of course Marie would drive anyone crazy - but even so I don't see unhappiness. If that were the case I couldn't watch this show! As others have noted this, to me, is my comfort food show. I watch ELR to relax and retreat from the troubles of my life and of the world. I don't see how I could do that if I thought the two main characters were unlikable and written as unhappy.
  20. My mother talks about me singing in my crib to their songs "Cup a choosi" apparently. I've always liked the Everly Brothers. Damn. RIP, Don.
  21. One of the things I've always disliked about ELR is the way Debra will be angry about something that she has a perfect right to be angry over - example Ray not voting for her in that school election - but they always seem to manage to have Debra do or say something "mean" that somehow makes them even. I'd never thought of it from the POV of an attempt to make a terrible husband more sympathetic but that's exactly what happens!
  22. ^ Very interesting @qtpye!! I know a lot of viewers dismiss Debra as shrewish but I never really bought that. She is reacting, often angrily, to the impossible people in her life. Notably Marie and Ray. If she wasn't angry a lot of the time she wouldn't be normal IMO. As Debra herself said "It's hard being a single parent."
  23. What I don't understand is just how wonderful is this guy at his job that this kind of information coming out isn't resulting in him getting fired? People get fired all the time for lesser offenses that, arguably, are not job related. What more could he possibly have said that would have been offensive enough for the PTB to show him the door?
  24. What I've been experiencing recently is being unfriended because I dared to question someone on a claim they made (surprisingly not Covid or politics related). Apparently now asking a question, politely, is an attack.
