  1. And the younger one is about 14 - so at best the ex has 4 more years to live off the child support. I hope for the sake of the younger kids that he's socked a little of that money away.
  2. Not untrue but in his defense, despite how he felt about Mike he gave his daughter and SIL free room and board for years.
  3. I know this is an older post but I saw an episode of YS today that somewhat answers this - it's the one where Sheldon starts a club at the university and Meemaw and the Reba Macintyre character go to a casino. Anyway at one point the older Sheldon voice over says that he went on to win a Nobel Prize and all Missy has are friends and a loving family. Sounds like they do want us to believe that Missy's life turns out well.
  4. If his mother spoke to him the way he claims she did I certainly don't blame him for holding a grudge - but in some defense of parents who don't always support their kids dreams, for every Tarantino there are a thousand others barely scraping by because they didn't get an education or train for a career because they focused on an elusive dream - as the song goes: LA is a great big freeway Put a hundred down and buy a car In a week, maybe two, they'll make you a star Weeks turn into years, how quick they pass And all the stars that never were Are parking cars and pumping gas
  5. This reminds me of a faux thing I notice on TV - people giving out candy on Halloween from a very small bowl. If you only get a few kids, sure, but I call this the endlessly refilled bowl as the times I notice this it's made clear that the door bell never stops ringing. I wish I had a never empty bowl of candy! Well, on second thoughts, perhaps not!!
  6. We used to live in England and for most of that time didn't have a car - my husband and kids said they'd disown me I got one of those shopping trolley things. I threatened to buy a wagon and use that but bowed to peer pressure and took taxis if I got carried away at the grocery store.
  7. I remember Sheldon saying "Mom smokes in the car but we can't tell Dad" (or something like that) but I don't remember any other smoking references.
  8. Absolutely agree! I really hope they don't throw BBT Sheldon under the bus just to make George a nicer guy than grown up Sheldon conveyed! I don't mind if they drop references to some of the things Sheldon brings up but I think if they were going to really walk back most of that they'd never have set the scene for George drinking too much and for his less than princely attitude towards Mary!
  9. Same. I knew her first as Josephine but when my daughter was little she went through a Shirley Temple phase and we collected quite a few movies - I was surprised to see Jane Withers as the obnoxious little girl in Bright Eyes. She was also really wonderful in that. My only other real knowledge (such as that is) of her was in two mystery books which featured her that my mother had in her collection. All that said I just read the blurb about her on wiki. Wow, she sounded like a wonderful person - and her parents could have given lessons on how to be the best kind of parents to a kid in show business!
  10. Yep. Big issue here is whether places can mandate that their employees be vaccinated. The only place here I know of for sure that is going to do this isn't firing anyone - the unvaccinated will have to have a weekly Covid test and/or job changes so they aren't working face to face with the public. My niece is a nurse, fully vaccinated, who still has to have a weekly Covid test because she can't avoid contact with covidiots. So today's pet peeve - people who can make their own life easier but refuse to do it and that makes other people's lives just that much harder.
  11. I wondered too if she was told she needed to knock it off with the lying and misdirection and she wasn't prepared to do that.
  12. My mother and my daughter and her cousins were huge fans. I did see it, and some stuff was pretty funny, but I used to get so annoyed by the inconsistencies (Dorothy and Stan 'having to get married' and being married for 37 years but their kids are in their 20s kind of thing) that is just spoiled it for me.
  13. That's what I do. This family lived in a different province when we were growing up so I didn't see them often but when I did their Dad scared me to death. One time he came charging into my bedroom where two of my cousins were and started yelling at them and had a hand raised as if he were about to start hitting - the only reason he didn't, I think, is because he realized I was there too. I've never forgotten that. I was raised in a home where my parents rarely even raised their voices at us and they sure as hell never raised a hand! Anyway when they post their "dearest dad" stuff I just don't say a word. Now that you mention it I've noticed our other set of mutual cousins don't comment either.
  14. What I've been getting all day are ads for various places that make personalized gifts. T Shirts, mugs and the like that you can put your name on or whatever. It's nuts. One ad after another - who knew so many places provided this 'service'??
  15. I'm happy today was her last day, don't get me wrong, but why do I keep thinking about the ending to Carrie???
  16. News pet peeve: I absolutely do not care who has been evicted from Big Brother so why do I keep seeing this on my news feed? I hit "hide" from one news source and it shows up again from another. First world problem I know but sheesh. My only thought with regard to Big Brother is bemusement that it is still on the air. I guess my peeve though isn't with that program but with the way my so called "tailored for your interests" newsfeed doesn't actually care what my interests actually are!
  17. I'd cut them some slack if almost every single anti-vaxxer I know wasn't also anti-masking and basically still in denial that we are in a pandemic and insisting that Covid is "just a flu".
  18. The last time I checked selfish and stupid aren't medical reasons.
  19. This is why I love this place! I never thought of it from that angle before. I bet you're probably right.
  20. I appreciate that they are remembering their father the way he was, I have cousins whose father was physically and emotional abusive to them and to their Mom, cheap (but there was always money for cigarettes and booze) and just generally a jerk. He died when they were all in their mid to late teens and lately I've noticed all these fawning FB posts showing up on father's day and his birthday or for no real reason that are all "our sweet daddy in heaven" and "miss you every day dearest dad" kind of stuff. I totally can understand that family relationships can be complicated and it's possible to love someone who is problematic, to say the least! But these constant references to him as a wonderful person? No, just no, he really wasn't.
  21. I've noticed that as well. A bunch of different commercials, while irritating aren't nearly as aggravating as the exact same commercials being shown over again in the same break. Along with this I've noticed constant promos - often a promo for the show I am currently watching. I mean do they really need to promote the program you are already watching during the commercial breaks of the program you are already watching? Seriously?
  22. Definitely not your imagination. I call it the reward those of us sticking with cable are getting for sticking with cable. It's like they actually want us to cancel.
  23. The most common way a TV show will demonstrate someone is Canadian is to have them say "eh" at the end of every sentence. This used to irritate me until I noticed how often I actually was doing that myself! Sigh. I'm working on it.
  24. Whenever I read things like this, especially from those in the public eye whose words and actions will remain on the Internet and live forever I am reminded of what Queen Elizabeth said last year: I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.. I will paraphrase this to say I hope in the years to come many people are thoroughly ashamed of the way they responded to this challenge.
  25. My 5 yr old granddaughter went to the dentist yesterday, she had two small cavities and the dentist told her that this was because of "sugar bugs". I have no idea if this is something dentists tell little kids thinking it's a cute way to teach them what they should and should not be eating - I do know it has totally freaked my granddaughter out. She hasn't spoken OR eaten since 9 am yesterday. So my peeve of the day - people who work with children who don't seem to know how to actually talk to children.
