  1. Although Romy is my favorite and I still mourn for my boy Justin, I have to defend Jaleesa. I have gotten stuff from her bakery (including her hibiscus cake and and her black sesame cake) and her stuff is flat out delicious! One of her specialties is eclairs (which is why her struggle with choux was baffling) and those suckers are dangerously good. It doesn't help my waistline that her shop is a few doors from an incredibly good coffee shop too, so it is too easy to pop on in and get something to go with my latte. ETA: also, she and her husband are very sweet and often have their baby in the shop
  2. Remember in SATC when they had Carrie act like she didn't know what email was and she thought that Aidan could see her when she sent it? It was like 2000 or 2001 and we are supposed to believe that a columnist in NYC was still mailing or dropping off physical copies of her writings?
  3. Wow, what a snotty and elitest statement, as if the only way to have a fulfilling and well-paying job is to have a degree. I live surrounded by farmers who are doing very, very well, while people with degrees are working at the local coffee shop. (and FYI, a great many, if not most, of them have at least associates degrees in agricultural science, so farming is not just for uneducated hicks) There is absolutely nothing wrong with working on a farm--at least he is working and will be self sufficient (unlike BME and GWE). The people who are doing even better are those in the trades--commercial plumbers around here are starting at $50 an hour--and I don't live in the sticks, my county is one of the 10 richest in the country.
  4. I want to scream "Make your bed!!!" I don't understand how you can just leave it like that all day - it literally takes two minutes to fix a bed
  5. I'm surprised that they haven't explored Abishola becoming a Nurse Practitioner instead of a doctor I guess it bothers me that this reinforces the idea that nurses are somehow not as professional and important in patient care as doctors and that nursing is what you settle for when you can't be a doctor
  6. Maybe this would have worked better with an unknown as lead. I think part of me is always acutely aware that Hillary Duff has 3 kids and she has been around so long, it is hard to see her as Sophie. She is either grown up Lizzie McGuire or just Hillary Duff at all times.
  7. The creativity and artistry of this group is pretty astounding. Most of those pies were pretty amazing! ETA: I call BS on Dennis not getting an advantage, but the worst in the preheat getting an advantage
  8. Before I yell at the kids to get off my lawn, can this curmudgeon complain about the fashion. Does not one woman on this show own a non-cropped shirt. Now I lived through the cropped shirt/highwaisted jeans once before, when I was young and very fit. Looking back at the photos, it looked stupid and disproportionate then. It looks stupid and disproportionate now. It also dates the show (and as someone said, they are THIRTY, not 21, and would have moved past the need to dress absolutely of the minute.) It has gotten better, but the chemistry isn't there yet and the characters are still ciphers.
  9. God, Midge just can’t help herself can she? She could have made up some funny, cute, slightly risqué story about the lucky dress, but oh no, she just has to tell a roomful of club women and Jackie freaking Kennedy that she had a one night stand with a married man. WTF? It reminds me of when she ruined her coworker’s wedding reception. I also loved Susie finally calling Midge on her shit and not being at her beck and call. Midge never once considers what turning down these gigs means for Susie’s finances too. And now Susie has other clients and can’t give Midge all of her attention. I love the chaos of the office and her growing crew. Lenny’s takedown was epic. I don’t understand Mei and Joel. They have no chemistry. One minute she is panicked but the next she is shown as Joel’s rock. The character was not given much depth…would she really be so dense about the fact that Joel’s kids would be with them sometimes?Andno one considered how Mei’s family might feel about her marrying a white man? They might forbid it. According to Susie’s boys, her family terrifies the Italian mob.
  10. I have a few theories about Turner - none of which are based in anything but what I would do if I was the writer. The first is due to the implication that she knows what is "right" and was hired to help Bertha learn how to properly dress, etc, indicating that she grew up with some money and status. Maybe her father was somehow wronged by the Russells (like lost their money or George destroyed his business) so her family was impoverished, forcing her to go out to work. The second is that she is just genuinely batshit crazy and thinks that she deserves Bertha's life. In that case, maybe we will see her roll up pregnant, claiming it is George's baby.
  11. Sigh, all Midge had to do was shut her mouth and step aside for Sophie and collect her paycheck. Or maybe take the 12k and sign the document to not say anything about the thing she was t saying anything about anyway. Or Susie take the car and the painting and sell them. Honestly, everyone on this show is an idiot about money. I’m guessing maybe Shy comes to her rescue with his American tour? I would love to watch a show about the matchmaker wars though!
  12. Ugh, Abe went from being my favorite to someone I loathe. He gave up a tenured teaching position WITH AN AMAZING RENT-FREE APARTMENT to go back to his communist roots (which may hurt his son's career in the CIA). Of course, dumbass Rose also gave up her trustfund because they wouldn't allow her to be on the family board. I don't know, since you live in NYC and seem to never get back to Oklahoma, it doesn't seem likely that you would be able to add much to the board anyway. If I had regular checks with zero work or effort on my side, especially when my husband just blew up his career and our home, I might find it in me to keep my mouth shut for a while. Ugh, these two are both spoiled, entitled children, but at least Rose has wit, style, and is concerned about other people. Abe is a self-involved jackass and his reactions to moving in with Midge and Rose having dated Asher were both disgusting.
  13. This cast just does not have the chemistry and the writing is just not as sharp as in HIMYM. It just doesn’t have the “it” factor - all of the characters seem flat and superficially sketched, which shouldn’t be the case after six episodes. It’s a pleasant 22 minutes but nothing stays with you at the end.
  14. I actually feel sorry for Tim. He is broken. His parents absolutely broke him. Even worse, he had just enough of a taste of freedom and the real world to know what he is missing but knows that he has no way to get there. We saw the photos of him interacting with peers and happy. Didn't he even have his arm around a girl in one of them? Emotionally, he seems about 10 or 12. He has regressed, so whatever his parents did to him was vicious and punishing. I think 1) his move to the camper was to exile him, not give him more freedom and 2) he is the one financially supporting that household. I wouldn't be surprised if his paycheck goes directly into Jill&David's bank account. It doesn't seem like he is very close with his brothers (much like Josh Duggar always seemed an outsider among his siblings) and he appears to be terribly alone and lost. He has not been allowed to have his own thoughts or develop his own beliefs, so I am not going to slam him too much for parroting what he has been told over and over again. Interestingly, I think that by making her daughters sister-moms, they are actually more mature than Tim. She really infantilizes her boys and, if any of them shows interest in another woman, she will crush that out as quickly as she can. Can't let them love anyone but Momma. He is going to break soon and the only question is whether he explodes outward or inward. We are watching a tragedy unfold before our eyes and are powerless to stop it.
  15. I am happy to see they are over their parents' rules about music with a beat. They actually look like normal 20-somethings having fun. I think the lost boys benefited from being ignored by their parents. Jana did a good job raising them and they seem to have a tight bond.
  16. Wait, so he is claiming that he never opened the files so he didn’t know that they were CSAM. 1) why wouldn’t his attorney have brought that up in the trial; 2) didn’t one of the prosecution witnesses say that at least one of the files in the batch had been opened multiple times?; and 3) Don’t you have to know what these files are and where to find them (i.e. you can’t accidentally stumble across them on “the dark web”)
  17. Sigh. The men had decent chemistry with each other and Hilary Duff was good. Obviously they can't show to son because that would give away immediately who the father is. Also, for someone who owns a bar, Sid apparently can leave for extended periods of time. These people are 30, not 25 and there is a big difference between those two ages. My issue is with them creating 2 dimensional characters. I could write a book about how much I loathed the ending of HIMYM, but the characters were fully rounded from the first episode. Here: Valentina: unable to commit, likes sex; Charlie - British and rich; Ellen - a lesbian. That's it, that is all we know about them. Unless they can pull away from that, all of these characters can easily be dropped. In fact, Ellen added precisely nothing to group - they didn't give her a single line not related to her lesbianism. That should be the least interesting thing about her (and the same goes for the other two) At least we got the intriguing fact that Sid was in med school.
  18. Every once in a while I check up on Marjorie Jackson's Instagram. Since splitting with Si, she went to and finished college (an actual accredited college) and is now working in DC and appears to be living her best life, while still maintaining her faith. She has more spirit and life than a dozen Duggars. It's sad - they could have all had this. At the very least, they all could have gone to college (although since JB does not have a college degree, there was no way he was going to let any of his kids get one) I think Jinger, Jessa, Josiah, and the sinner twins in particular would have thrived at college.
  19. The irony? Josh probably talks to Anna more now then he did when he was home. I get the feeling that, when not at the crime shack work, he probably spent all of his time with his nose in the phone, only grunting at Anna when he wanted food, drink, or sexy times. He never seemed to be an involved or engaged father and husband.
  20. Hillary is a famewhore but she really seems to care for the lost boys as individuals, which is more than they can say about their surrogate birth mom.
  21. I read an excerpt that said that Eddie’s marriage to Janie was basically over. Curious if that is true - I haven’t seen anything where Janie has spoken about Ed’s death recently or addressed Valerie’s claims.
  22. Judging by the times I took my kids strawberry picking, this will be the only time they can wear those dresses!
  23. $10 that Kaylee will "ask" BME to be her matron of honor too. Honestly, for any normal person, if your daughter asked you, you would decline as you already have a role as the mother of the bride. This is especially true when your daughter has eight sisters (it was weird that Kelly Bates was in Michaela's wedding too)
  24. It is Jessa’s trauma to address or not as she sees fit. She owes us nothing. I think what most of us see as bitchiness is her reaction to that trauma. Trauma that she was forced to share with the world against her will. Everyone processes trauma differently and there is no right way. I think a lot of her attitude during the Megyn Kelly interview was that she just did not want to talk about it and was being forced to address it publicly. She clearly wanted to be left alone. I get it - I do not like sharing and get can get brittle and withdrawn when pushed and impatient with emotional people. The fact that she, Jill, Joy, and Jinger all seem to be aligned is promising that she has heard the unvarnished truth (possibly for the first time) Again though, she owes us nothing.
