Books That Would Make Great TV Shows
proserpina65 replied to Luckylyn's topic in The TV Bazaar: Assorted TV-Adjacent Talk
Personally, I would blend the first two books of the original trilogy (Dragonflight, Dragonquest) with the first two Harper Hall ones (Dragonsong, Dragonsinger). Those four fit fairly neatly together, imo. And then The White Dragon and Dragondrums fit together. Beyond that, the series starts to get spotty as far as quality is concerned, although Dragonsdawn worked really well as an origin story. I'm particularly fond of Moreta and Nerilka's Story, as well, although that's probably way more than I could hope for. The mating thing never really bothered me even though I got it right away, but I can see where it could be problematic. But you're right about the opportunity for diversity, especially in Dragonsdawn. -
I actually liked Tara speaking Italian not just for functional reasons but because she knows Italian and obviously enjoys the language.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

While we're supposed to think that's what's going on, I thought the bit at the end where the car was rocking because the kids were jumping around sort of implied that it wasn't sex happening in the car. Or, not every time, at least. But I could be wrong. I think we can all agree on that. -
Vera would be able to train as a midwife, even though she isn't currently qualified, whereas a male nurse would not be able to train as a midwife at all. I thought she did, and Trixie persuaded Marnie to let her in by complaining about her time and not wanting to have to come back later.

Ugh!: Actors, Hosts, And TV Personalities You Just Can't Stand

I will say, that as a tv personality, Bobby Flay is okay, for me. Unlike, say, Richard Blais, who's freaking obnoxious. And Anthony Bourdain, who I find both pretentious and annoying as shit. -
You have company at that table. I dislike them, and change the channel as soon as their mugging faces show up on my tv. I feel that way about pretty much all of HGTV's design-type shows' hosts.

I would hope that would be the case. But in general I'm not big on chefs who considered their food to be unassailable works of art. I probably wouldn't order a dish which had ingredients I didn't like, but something simple like "no tomato on my sandwich" wouldn't change the essential nature of the food. Well, not unless it was a tomato sandwich. (I don't eat in fancy restaurants owned by celebrity chefs anyway.) -

Same with me. And I'd add Naomi Novik's Temeraire series, for the same reason. Dragons! The BBC is making a tv series of His Dark Materials. Hopefully it will turn out really well. -

I imagine you can take the tomato off before you eat it; you probably just can't order it without the tomato. Which would be a problem if a dish has an ingredient to which you are allergic, because that ingredient will have touched other parts of the dish, rendering it all unsafe to eat. So, if what you heard is indeed true, that really sucks. -
I managed to drag myself to the end of season one. To me, it would've been a mostly entertaining limited series had it ended then.

I guess you mean FJ? I didn't find it poorly written at all, but then again, I knew it before Alex even finished reading the clue.

Oh man, a whole category on 70s' comedy films which I would've run, and I dozed off just about the time the show began! I did, however, know the Mercury 7.

I found out about the library having it when my somewhat conservative aunt told me. I was amazed to find out how much she loved it - given the raciness.

MPT was running it on Sunday afternoons, but then pledge drives would hit and it would be weeks between episodes. I finally gave up and went to the library for the dvds. I binged seasons 2 & 3 over the course of 2 weeks, and now am dying because season 4 isn't available in the US yet.

MPT ran 3 episodes of The Coroner. I watched the first one, and beyond the whole "a coroner doesn't do that!" twitchiness it gave me, I thought it was awful. The writing was dreadful and the acting only marginally better. I thought about giving episode 2 a try to see if it improved, but decided life was too short.

I know that, but I was commenting as someone watching this show, and Albert made it unwatchable for me. Thus, when Rufus Sewell was done, so was I.

That does explain a lot. Although I did still get stuff from American Express for months. Maybe they're slower for some reason.

I declared bankruptcy in October 2015. A week later, I received 10 credit card offers, including two from companies whose cards I'd had when I filed for bankruptcy. They weren't all for secured cards or low credit lines either. And I keep getting them almost every week, although they have trailed off to low credit line cards. One of which I will eventually get, because I'll need to start rebuilding my credit, very carefully. So some companies do not automatically purge potential customers from their lists just because of bankruptcies.

I would've known Brian Jones anyway, but I recently saw a woman on the British Antiques Roadshow who, as a teenager, managed to talk her way into a bar where the Rolling Stones were hanging out after a show, and she and her friend had their pictures taken with Keith Richards and Brian Jones. Quel coincidence!

I had no freaking clue. I said Herbert Hoover, although I didn't think the year was right. Although I did realize that it wouldn't have been Eisenhower due to him being a general, which meant he had to have attended West Point.

I did the same thing, and I adore Baryshnikov so I should've known better. Plus, I actually knew (or used to) that Nureyev had already defected to the West by 1967. Oy vey! Indeed.

But Liz was right and Michael was wrong on this task. She followed the pictures on the map, and that got them to the correct buildings. I find Brooke annoying, but I was totally with her there. I hate fish, hate it. I might've been able to eat that raw fish on AR, but I would've immediately barfed it back up.
