  1. I agree with this. I'm a Blantchett fan and she has a ton of prestige. I think she's basically like Meryl Streep in that she'll probably always get roles. I think the definition of movie stars especially for female actresses has changed in the last decade. Sandra Bullock, Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts types of stars aren't really the trend anymore. They all made it big through romantic comedies which aren't in trend anymore. I think audiences require more than just a couple of stars. I do think JLaw does have a legion of fans, but she's an exception compared to other folks. Like someone else above, I prefer Emma Stone, but Stone has lost a bit momentum since her height in Easy A. I hope she gets more dramatic roles because I know she has it in her.
  2. Michelle Forbes (Ensign Ro) is appearing on Orphan Black and a lot of posters mentioned how much they have liked her since ST:TNG. I never truly felt anything for the character and was annoyed with the character in that kids episode. I didn't realize she was so popular among TNG fans.
  3. Judging by the previous four series, sometime in mid August. It'll air on BBC One this year instead of the BBC Two.
  4. I'm behind on GoT so I'm a bit sad to know that he will be a whackjob (then again, most characters on GoT are). All things considered, Simon was not really considered the hot one until S2. I stopped watching the series when Iwan Rheon left the show.
  5. MR's Lex was the only reason I kept watching the show for as long as I did.
  6. Frasier: "I do. I... I like her from a distance. You know, the way you like the sun. Maris is like the sun. Except without the warmth."
  7. Niles: "Frasier, I need to ask a small favor. I need you to create a distraction while I have a sex change and move to Europe."
  8. This thread contains spoilers for the first book of the Outlander series. For those of you who have read the first book, please feel free to talk about the adaptation. Please discuss events that happened in this book and not beyond. Thank you. Synopsis: Claire Randall, a 1940s English former war nurse, travels back in time to the 18th century Scotland and meets James Fraser, a Scottish man of some charm.
  9. I also really liked this episode. I think John does have this skill of being affable and opinionated. As someone who studied international affairs, I love John's international news stuff. I have a lot of love for TDS/TCR, but since John is not an American by birth, his perspective on America and the world is different. He seems more willing to feature less American centric pieces and background (love the British history bits). I really appreciate he is tackling and mocking international news stories.
  10. I'm a middle distance runner so about 5-6 k each run, but only about once or twice a week. I took a break after my last 10K in March; I prefer running in the winter. I also do hot yoga (not Bikram - too boring) as I like the cardio, it's a great indoor winter activity, and I do get some strength. I'm learning to swim properly, but not sure if that will be part of my regular workout routine. I'm looking into trying kettlebell/TRX soon as I really do need more strength work. I cycle and walk to work, but I don't like going to the gym.
  11. Most likely she is myopic/near-sighted. While myopia can be traced to family history, it is also developed by close detailed work such as staring at computer screens and reading intensely. I have a feeling that Cosima, like me, spent many hours in front of the computer and reading books as a kid and teenager.
  12. I think there was a pointed remark about class and her nationality about that since they came from Great Britain. In the context of Canada and US, the US is easier to buy guns. Based on the fact Mrs S was coming from Britain and Ireland where cops don't even have guns and the only people who owned shotguns in the past were rich, upper class, it is easier in Canada (or wherever they are in North America).
  13. Jason was/will be in an episode of Canadian procedural "Motive". It aired a few weeks ago in Canada, and this summer in the US. I thought it was a bit of a waste of him, but I'm glad he is working. I was flipping channels and I saw him so not a loss for me that evening.

    Audiobooks

Neil Gaiman reads his own books quite well especially the children/YA books. I really like Davina Porter's work on Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. John Tefler's Complete Sherlock Holmes is very good too. I listened to a lot of David Tennant reading to How to train a dragon series which is fun.
  15. I do not like the prospect of Helena or any character on this show getting raped, but I've noticed and other reviewers too (AV Club, TLo) that the theme of fertility, motherhood, and identity is also subversive. It's sort of like how fertility was dealt with in The Handmaiden's Tale by Margaret Atwood. The show is making some pointed Feminist observations about how women and the control of their bodies. One of the reasons I love this show is how female oriented it is, and Sarah does not look good in this episode, but completely in character. She has grown a lot, but she was a grifter for many years. I love that she is our protagonist just as much as I love the fact she is her own ensemble.
  16. What a fun couch. Accent overload! I laughed a lot. The fan stuff is always a bit cringe worthy, but I couldn't help laugh about it. Both the guys were very good sport about it, and they tease about it in interviews which how the rabidness started. Still, it was both funny and strange. Graham should auction off the pineapple for charity.
  17. It didn't even look that woodsy to me, but as a Canadian who paused in the premiere with the diner's gun, this gun didn't surprise me. Lots of people do hunt up here so it's not impossible to get a gun, just harder than in the US. I don't think Cal is a regular user, but he probably thought he should get it. I also didn't believe Sarah when she said she didn't know if he was going to be here. He must live there most of the time because he has chickens and he seems to know the local cop. I think it's his primary residence. It does not seem OOC for Sarah to not tell Felix about it. She had a lot of marks/boyfriends. Sarah likes to run and be in denial about things. She's never told anyone about Cal because of Kira. She routinely left town and Fee didn't know where she was either. ETA: Paul vs. Cal? Let's all get along because there is more than enough room for eye candy on this show! Can't we keep them both?
  18. I still love the NYPD crew. I liked Bell was concerned about Joan, but I like when the show diverged too. They did when Jamie reappeared as well. It's nice to have a nonprocedural change. I also liked the use of "sue generis" by the banker. Papa Holmes is a piece of work. How unique and aggressive can the man actually be? I am very much looking forward to Mycroft's chat. He's obviously on a secret mission so of course he can't reveal to his brother and Joan about it. They are still civilians. He was probably trying to trap the French guys in some way. Rhys looked great in the last scene. His whole presence shifted and he looked very tall next to our petite Joan. I really doubt Sherlock would ever call Mycroft cruel. Book!Sherlock kinda rolled his eyes at Book!Mycroft with respective to the government too. He is never going to forget the Joan kidnapping.
  19. And a t-shirt. In all seriousness, I can change the thread title if that's what you guys want.

  24. I'd definitely watch for Amy Sedaris. She is a favourite of Letterman and has been on his show a lot. Does she want a talk show gig? It would be really amusing if she did it because her and Stephen Colbert are old friends and collaborators.
