Batman: The Animated Series - General Discussion
Athena replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Batman: The Animated Series
I really like Batman and Wonder Woman after Justice League, but my first Batman 'ship' was from Batman/Catwoman (Bruce/Selina) from this show. I still remember their sizzling animated chemistry! How did this show do that?! -
I am a bit sad, but not surprised. Craig hasn't seemed as into it the last couple of years. I wouldn't say he was phoning it in and the show has done some new skits and I loved when they went to Scotland. I will miss the oddness of the show, Geoff Petersen and Secretariat. Also that kitten and Craig's interviewing style especially with certain women and Scotsmen. It takes a lot for me to invested into a talk show so I'm not sure I'll stick around given the names.

Quotes, gimme! Dr. Cox: I suppose I could riff a list of things that I care as little about as our last week. Let's see... low carb diets, Michael Moore, the Republican National Convention, Kabbalah & all Kabbalah-related products, Hi-Def TV, the Bush daughters, wireless hotspots, the OC, the UN, recycling, getting Punk'd, Danny Gans, the Latin Grammys, the real Grammys, Jeff that Wiggle that sleeps too darn much, the Yankees payroll, all the red states, all the blue states, every hybrid car, every talk show, everything on the planet, everything in the solar system, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, every-everything that exists past present & future, in discovered and undiscovered dimensions! [turns away, then turns back] Dr. Cox: Oh, and Hugh Jackman. J.D.: Hugh Jackman is Wolverine! How dare he!

Previously.TV uses the TV Database and original air dates for episode threads. "The Musketeers" will air June 22, 2014 on BBC America. This forum was created after S1 aired in the UK and some of the topics contain spoiler information. Episode threads should contain information about the episode in question and references to past episodes but not future ones in consideration for new viewers. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - General Discussion
Athena replied to SunShine Gal's topic in Star Trek: The Next Generation
A place to discuss particular episodes, arcs and moments from the show's run. Please remember this isn't a complete catch-all topic -- check out the forum for character topics and other places for show-related talk. For the purpose of this show, you can also discuss the movies. Feel free to continue opening more specific threads as well. Engage! -
I remember liking some of season two because Ryan got a love interest that wasn't Marissa and he was happy. I adored Ryan so it made me happy to see him happy. In general, I'd rank season One and Four as my favourites, followed by Two a couple steps behind, and way South in the Antarctic is Three. The whole Johnny, Marissa and Trey plots really annoyed me.

S03.E02: Las Vegas
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown [V]
As someone who recently learned that EDM was big in the US (not American) especially among Asian-Americans, I'm a bit perplexed on why. What's the appeal? I mean, I like to go to a club once in awhile, but why is so hot right now? I have never had any desire to go to Las Vegas and this show just confirmed it more or less. I do admit the swanky restaurants looked nice and so did that Thai place. It was also nice to know that at least someone is trying to preserve the water there. -
I agree that he seemed nervous and a bit self-conscious. It didn't feel as smooth as he was on TDS. It's understandable because it's his first show and he is a new kid on the network and the circuit. He also had some good press and expectations too. I hope he becomes more comfortable with it over time. I am not sure if I like the interview style either. I remember reading about last summer's coverage of him hosting TDS and someone called him Jon and Stephen's love child. I do think he has traits from both of them, but he's not completely comfortable in this show yet. Hopefully he does more obscure news stuff like he did with the Indian elections. I liked the length of it too. it felt a bit less rushed than if TDS or TCR had done it for some reason.
-
In general, I also liked it. It was a bit slow to start for me as I found the beginning bits more amusing, but I really liked his bit on the Indian elections. I really like a lot of international news so for him to skewer it and compare and contrast to American news and media was interesting and funny.

S03.E01: Punjab, India
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown [V]
I think Bourdain's hate of vegetarians and vegetarianism comes from more than one source, but being a chef definitely contributes. He worked and lived in a town when vegetarian food in the USA was not the best and there was a big backlash against meat culture and saturated fats. In any case, Indian vegetarian food is really some of the best in the world so I always just like him giving credit to the cuisine. I enjoyed how they used music through this episode. -
S02.E02: Governed by Sound Reason and True Religion
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Orphan Black [V]
I love that this show has no fillers and there were so many amazing moments this episode. I know they would give someone else on this show some BAMF action. So entertaining. I kind of like the portrayal of Mark. The actor is giving him range as noted when Pastor Breeder told him he was a like son and when he greeted Gracie. Each side has their own goons and enforcers. Daniel is for DYAD/Rachel. Sarah needs Mrs S back and perhaps Paul. I always miss a shot of Paul's ass. Poor Alison. -
Small Talk: Keep $%@^*@! that Chicken!
Athena replied to Lisin's topic in The Daily Show With Jon Stewart [V]
I am considering requesting a Last Week Tonight With John Oliver forum. I do not want to do it unless I know there will be people interested in participating. We could wait until after the episode airs. If we do it now, we can have it open before the premiere. If so, I'd love to know any suggestions for a couple of thread topics and titles. -
I think the VIP of this episode was the owl. Oh, and Wade. In all seriousness, I like whenever we see Zoe being a good friend. It is a clear sign of character growth since she came to Bluebell. I'm glad the Vivian plot is over. One of the things I liked about Zoe/Wade was that it seemed to bring out the best in Zoe. She was an even more competent doctor back when they were dating. I liked the Lavon/AB fight. It was cute and believable how they would have gotten together. I hope they are still end game because as much as I like Lemon now, I don't know if there is anyone actively on the show she should be with. George is George.

The Love Interests: Pale Shadows of Lilith (if that's possible)
Athena replied to FormerMod-a1's topic in Frasier
I would say a close second for Frasier would also be: Patrick Stewart's Alistair Burke, the opera director. One of the best latter season episodes. I agree that Claire was a lovely character and the writers definitely made her quite perfect to contrast against horrible Lana. Frasier seems to have bad taste in women post-Lilith. All the good ones got away and he kept pining for the annoying ones. -
I really enjoyed Roger Ebert's Great Movies series. I learned a lot about films and movies from it. He was a wonderful writer, and I was very sad when he passed away. If you read the books and watch just a few of the movies he recommends, you'll definitely find ones which entertain or move you in some way.

The Love Interests: Pale Shadows of Lilith (if that's possible)
Athena replied to FormerMod-a1's topic in Frasier
For Frasier: Lilith. Forever and always. Martin: I could not stand most of Martin's girlfriends. The only one I liked him with was Cam Winston's mother. She was sweet and smart. Considering how similar Cam was to Frasier and Niles, I could see how Martin would be attracted to her like he was to Hester. -
My favourite Carson (or Carter as Carson) moment is actually the skit he did for Friday Night With Jonathan Ross a couple years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkyNUZ3S6eg

S02.E01: Nature Under Constraint and Vexed
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Orphan Black [V]
In the opening shot of this episode, Sarah clearly runs past a CIBC Bank before going into the diner. Again, Americans wouldn't get this, but for us Canadians though... The whole feds thing is strange because Art says the case has been handled to "Feds" because it in "domestic terrorism" which would fall under interprovincial business. I am assuming the Proletheans are widespread too. Terrorism is also under the jurisdiction of the Canadian intelligence agency: CSIS. They monitor domestic terrorists as well. I'm going to have to start assuming Canada and the US have amalagmated into one super nation with all these references. I also sighed. I thought it was a powerful moment in S1 for Sarah to get the point where she shoots her twin. I like Helena too, but she just adds yet another factor. Hopefully she'll get redeemed because I can't forget how she shot their bio mom in cold blood. -
S02.E01: Nature Under Constraint and Vexed
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Orphan Black [V]
I think "officially" that TPTB indicate the show is in North America, but the Toronto stuff is obvious for those of us who live in Canada. They do not really hide it very well with the locations and props. It's more obvious about it than some American shows/movies that use Toronto as a stand in. I'm not sure why they don't just say outright it is Toronto. In general, Canadians don't use the term "Feds" for national investigation. That is the RCMP (aka Mounties) and we call them as such. We tend to call our national government, the federal government so it's not a stretch. -
S02.E01: Nature Under Constraint and Vexed
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Orphan Black [V]
Ah the German scene was nice. I was wondering when they were really going to use Tatiana's heritage again. Tatiana's mother is German and her father is half, but I don't know how fluent that girl is. She acts, she sings, she dances, she improvs and she speaks German. This girl! -
S15.E02: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paolo Nutini
Athena replied to halgia's topic in The Graham Norton Show
He does audience bits with a lot of the big stars too. When most people on the couch know each other, it can go really well (Monument Men episode) or it can be a bit dull. I always hope they loosen up, but I think the stick to the "plugging" too much. -
S02.E01: Nature Under Constraint and Vexed
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Orphan Black [V]
I think this is my Canadianess coming through since guns are not as prominent here as they are in the US. They are harder to buy here and you honestly do not see them as much. Knowing this show takes place in Toronto (AU clone Toronto), the shot gun seemed a bit atypical. Toronto does have a lot of crime though so it is not impossible. This is a suspense sci-fi show so this is a minor gripe. I really liked the character and actor as well. At least it was believable that a guy like him would own a shotgun in that short period of screen time he got.
