Aniston garnered a lot of favour off "Friends". It was the biggest sitcom of its time, and she has done the best out of any female TV sitcom star transitioning to movies. Her rise is exceptional and not the norm. Most of her movies do not do super well, but a lot of them haven't tanked either. I think Aniston stayed relevant due to the Pitt-Jolie affair and for a long time she was the maligned woman. That with her Rachel status gave her a lot of sympathy and fans who in turn, support her at the box office. I find her very bland at the worse of times and choose not to watch her films. I do admit she can be funny and she had a decent dramatic turn in The Good Girl.

Sadly, due to herd immunity, both kids and vulnerable adults pay the price. I have worked in Public Health and this issue bothers me. I rather public institutions and officials not spend their resources on a decades proven strategy to fight off zealots like McCarthy. It affects the overall population health and there are many other health issues that should get the focus.

Paul Newman is one of those men who achieved this perfect balance of being both pretty (those eyes!) and rugged/handsome at the same time. I don't remember much from Cat on the Hot Tin Roof other than how damn good looking Newman and Taylor were.

Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon: The Original '92-'96 anime
Athena replied to David T. Cole's topic in Sailor Moon [V]
Indeed, SuperS was a lot of filler. S was long but benefited from having new senshi Neptune and Uranus to develop and interact with the Inners. SuperS relied mostly on Chibi-Usa. I don't hate her, but I'm not interested in her that much. I also felt they could have used the eps to develop the Inners more, but it felt mostly redundant. The thing I remember most positively from SuperS was how cheesey and fun the villains were. The Witches in S were fun too, but I found those villains were on the whole much more dark so less 'fun'. I think Stars has some bad pacing too, but it grew on me with its focus character focus on Usagi and the Outers. I love the Outer Senshi. -
Future of Movie Stars: Who Will Shine? Who Will Fade Away?

It does irk me that producers think she is so popular and talented that she needs to play roles so much older for her when they could cast a plethora of other talented, available female actreses. I've been following JLaw for awhile. I think she has talent, but she's not perfect nor she is Streep. It'll be good for her to hide out a little. -
I refuse to watch any episodes of the View anymore, but all of you from the TWOP thread had such entertaining and snarky posts about it so I'll definitely look in here regularly just for that fun.

Clark Kent: The Boy Who Would Be Superman--Not on THIS Show!
Athena replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Smallville [V]
Something that bugged me about this Clark was that I never saw him as that much capable of being a leader. I also never thought this Clark really wanted to be reporter. He was just a bit of a nonentity in personality at times. I don't blame that on Welling; I blame it on the writing. It focused mostly on Clark's romantic life or lack there of or his incredible nosiness with respect to Lex. -

I think Leo is also morphing Jack Nicholson in some ways. That's probably conscious since he's allegedly one of DiCaprio's favourite actors. -
S02.E07: Knowledge Of Causes, And Secret Motion Of Things
Athena replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Orphan Black [V]
I agree that people could share more, but then again, the show and suspense relies heavily on paranoia and conspiracy. Most of the characters are rightfully suspicious and on edge about what is happening around them. Sometimes I do think it's really silly how Cal hasn't been told. I'm really glad Art was brought into it. Angie is just an unnecessary thorn to the Clone Club, but she does represent the actual good cop that's left in the force. I can't fault Angie for basically doing her job. Thankfully, she has not been featured so much. -
The 90s Dic and Cloverway Dubs: His Name Is Prince Darien

Yes, I remember that as well and the powerful ending to the first series. The English DUB OST can be downloaded here. -

Sometimes when it rains and I'm out there holding an umbrella waiting, I think of Lita and hum "Rainy Day Man" to myself. It's been twenty years! The dub really had a great soundtrack. -
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon: The Original '92-'96 anime
Athena replied to David T. Cole's topic in Sailor Moon [V]
Gosh, I love S. It's so mature and beautiful and dark. I think it's my favourite of the series in terms of the best written as an arc. I was mostly indifferent to Stars for a long time as I hadn't seen all the eps until a few years ago. When I did rewatch it and see it as a whole, it really grew on me. I agree that it was mostly bad carry over from SuperS. I really grew to like the Usagi/Seiya relationship. I like Mamoru and all, but there was something really sweet about Usagi and Seiya. The R movie is near perfection. At its best, the show gave so much growth and depth to each of its characters and their connections. -
Still almost two months away from the premiere. Check out the Outlander_Starz instagram for some nice production photos.

Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon: The Original '92-'96 anime

I generally liked all of the series and the movies too, but some really rank higher. I have strong affection for Sailor Moon, R, and S. I also really liked Stars. The one i couldn't really ever get into was SuperS because of its focus on Chibi-Usa. The Sailor Moon R movie has one of the best endings of any animated film. One thing I consistently loved about the show was it's themes on friendships, self-confidence, team work and love. -
@Jeebus Cripes : you and I have very similar taste from Peck/Hepburn to Bowie and Fassy too! I am an Audrey Hepburn fan and she is my hallmark for all that is elegant and charming in a star. Roman Holiday is one of my favourite films. Gregory Peck in that and To Kill a Mockingbird. Yowza. I have a few classic movie star crushes: Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Robert Donat, and a couple others I probably can't pull out of my head right now. I'm a Fred Astaire girl myself, but I know why others love Gene. I just prefer to dance with Fred. I really liked Casino Royale as a movie and probably in large part because I've found Daniel Craig somewhat attractive, but also, Eva Green is beautiful. They had a lot of chemistry, I have such a girlcrush on her from that movie that I watched her in that horrible Camelot series.

Completionists Anonymous: I've Started So I'll Fini...
Athena replied to aradia22's topic in Everything Else
I stockpile as well and I prefer to marathon shows. I've bailed on a lot of shows and no longer feel any guilt or disloyalty when I skip out on episodes or the show altogether. I realized after awhile that if I got attached to some shows or characters, I could be irrevocably disappointed in them too. So I just hedge my bets if it seems the show is starting to become boring, convoluted or they are ruining my favourite characters. I love the streaming age because I almost always FFwed through something on a show whether because I dislike a storyline/character, graphic depictions I am uncomfortable with, or really, short on time. I'm an impatient kind of consumer. My friends don't really get this, but I find more satisfaction watching the things I do want to see. Sometimes, I will stop watching a show regularly but keep up with it through recaps and the boards. I've done this with Doctor Who (which use to be must see TV for me in the pre-Moffat days). I'll drop in to see interesting episodes. Same with OUAT except I tried to do that a couple months ago and just got more confused. Once again, I FFwed through a bad or boring movie, but like you, I want to know how it ends. Rarely do I just stop watching a movie midway through. I don't remember the last time I did that. I'm the same with books. I can count the number of times on my one hand that I've stopped reading a book midway through with the intention of never picking it up again. I was a book completionist long before a TV/movie one though, and only as an adult did I stop reading series until the very end. Life is too short to keep consuming things you're not enjoying especially since these are entertainment products. -
The makeup has been horrific. Everyone does look super orange. I'm disappointed in Lavon and I feel very bad for AB. I thought there was a chance L/L would get featured, but I didn't want it to after AB. Ugh. Whatever happened to that one night stand news producer Lemon was with? She had a ton of chemistry with him. I'm a bit tired of the recycled Lemon ships. I believe that it would be better for her to be with someone brand new. This season has been quite bad. I avoided a lot of episodes, and I've only been tuning it to some vague loyalty to the characters. The show can be fun and the last couple of eps have been alright. One of the reasons I still tuned in was for Wade. For me, Wilson Bethel has been the breakout star of this show. Sadly, I don't think he'll be able to make it big as is often the case with supporting TV love interests from the CW. I really hope he gets some work afterwards because he's won some good will for me to follow his career. He has a lot of screen chemistry. I believe that the intended OTP for the show was George/Zoe, but that ship has never had a good outing. I think in large part to their lack of chemistry and Wade. I've liked Rachel Bilson since The O.C., but even I know she's not a great dramatic actress. I do feel she is better in their scenes together. I found it interesting how a lot of the characters have had chances to move away for professional reasons, but most came back to Bluebell because in the end, it wasn't them and they prefer that life. I think this happens a lot more often than people think in real life. It felt true that Wade would not go to Atlanta, but I also could see how he would do well. He's grown a lot as a character from S1. All in all, I'm really looking forward to S4.

The looks Wade and Zoe were giving each other at the end were so full of longing. Come on, kids. Some of the best episodes feature Wade and Zoe being a good friend and Doctor. I love how Crazy Earl seems to bring them together.

I have no interest in D'Artagnan in this series so the whole Constance thing was a bit of a snoozefest for me. I love Queen Anne here and she is more of a player in the later books so it makes sense that she would feature. Her and Aramis are my OTP for this series. Aramis is probably my favourite. Having said that, they have a decent Athos here. I really liked his romantic interlude with Ninon.

It looks really good. I'm excited and I'm glad they got the same voice for Usagi as before. Can't wait.

Poor Mary. I felt bad for her too. I loved Laura of course. I read most of the books as a kid or preteen. These Happy Golden Years was the most memorable because their courtship was just so sweet and romantic. It was so simply written but so beautiful how they got together. I could never get into the books about Rose. I started one, but it didn't work for me. I was reading GoodReads reviews about The First Four Years, and I don't think I'll ever read it. It just sounds too depressing to me. It's bad of me not to face the reality, but I have such warm memories of reading the books and the good episodes of the show (the earlier ones) that I don't think I could face reading Laura and Almanzo at their worse.

Like others in this thread, I hated The Dark Knight Rises. It's probably the movie I've disliked the most that I've seen in recent years because I am generally known as a person who likes things, but it bugged me. It even gave me a headache because it was so long, boring and full of plot holes. I didn't really mind the first two movies, but in retrospect, I didn't think it was a good trilogy. I loved Batman growing up so I felt Nolan ruined a lot of the characters. I like Michael Caine, but I didn't think Alfread would ever give up on Bruce like that or Bruce would ever become such a prick. On a positive note, I liked JGL and Gary Oldman in it. I really liked Meet Joe Black. I was just thinking the other week that I should rewatch it. Also, I love Sliding Doors but I didn't know that was unpopular opinion. I rewatch it every year. It's the only Paltrow movie I like because I can't stand her acting wise or whatever antics she has going on personally. I still like Forrest Gump. I think it was the first time I really saw Tom Hanks, and I still adore him!
