  1. Probably two times, but not in the last five or so years. On rare occasions, I pop a disc into the ol' dvd player.
  2. He said it a couple of times, but he didn't insist on speaking to his client before the interview began. Reason to make the argument, but "ineffective assistance of counsel" is rarely sustained. Texas has the "sleeping lawyer" death penalty cases where, yes, the appointed attorney was actually sleeping during the trial (noted in court transcripts), yet this defense was denied. I remember a case from law school where a tax attorney had shown up in court on a civil case and the judge appointed him counsel in a death penalty case (he wasn't a criminal defense attorney and never tried any criminal case) w/ jury selection that day. Defense denied. That was bizarre. Especially if your show is supposed to be promoting police, in general, as good people trying to do right by everybody.
  3. Not so sure about this. Jacob is Mary's (step-)father. She just lost her mother. The police could look at any statement that he didn't do it to be Mary trying not to lose both parents and willing to say anything to protect her remaining parent. Seconded.
  4. I love Mary as much as the next person, but let's not forget that to all but a few people (and now one less), she is this vapid Instagram-influencer. The rich dilettante of two of Gotham's largest and most important citizens. There's no reason for Alice to think any differently of Mary than the other 1 million Gothamites. I enjoyed Alice's smackdown of Kate's righteous anger earlier in the episode. Came down to, not only did she remove the device from the gun that can penetrate the Batsuit, but she had killed all the scientists who could replicate it. You're welcome Batgirl! Twisted, but effective argument. Poor Mary. Watching mom die, especially in that manner. Kate may be the last person that should be trying to comfort you, but I'm right here if you need to talk.
  5. She asked him for pics to put the screws to him and he responded that he had pics. But, he only gave her the stub and back stage pass. Later on, she's taken off the case b/c enough evidence was planted to show (dead) Mickey was the killer. (ElectricBoogaloo just said that above.) My problem wasn't Darryl saying that he had pics, it was embellishing a conversation he supposedly had w/ teen idol asshole. Like this kid could ever keep a story straight in the first place, and, if something pissed him off, he would either deny they were there that night or say he hates dogs and has never had a middle-aged black male fan. I hope she at least comes back for the season (series?) finale. Oh, Lena, I think I'm going to miss you most of all. Bridge, what did Lena tell you? Do not get involved w/ your boss. Admittedly she said this ... the freaking day before! Of course you'd forget after so much time passed. Ouch. Too soon. Let me dream this offseason until they come back w/o having solved any of their problems.
  6. I was wondering if she was wearing pjs or a "peasant" outfit that looked out of place in the heart of the city. I didn't notice passers-by reacting as if she really smelled from lack of showering. When Soyun first approached the sign that said VIP area, I was wondering why there was no security before being allowed to go upstairs. Then, upstairs, there's only one smallish guy acting as security. This club really needs to do better, or else any old spy can basically just walk in.
  7. The ticket stubs are a good idea for an alibi, but not the back stage passes. I wouldn't just psuedo!Bieber not to fuck up by either over-embellishing or getting pissed off at Ray, Bridge, or the manager and telling the Detective out of spite that the Donovans were not there that night. I know! I am going to be so pissed if this is the last we see of her. Shouldn't they have either known or double-checked how many people were on the bus and compare that to the number of bodies?
  8. "Taped before a live audience" is supposed to mean that they don't enhance the reactions, such as by using a laugh track. Or using an audience that's not full of paid performers. It makes things more "real," even if the episode is edited prior to air.
  9. Great, now I have to sleep with both eyes open.
  10. They discuss DC's reaction on this episode's podcast.
  11. Maybe, but I assume you haven't gone through the Treadstone Protocol.
  12. I was going to say the briefcase from Pulp Fiction, but I like Moose135's answer better.
  13. On top of that, the guy who overpowered him had been shot. Even after being pushed into the wall at least twice, he still was beating Ressler. Best. FBI agent. Ever. Good help is hard to find. With the help of the FBI agents. Always ready to assist people bringing in new furnishings. This is pretty much the only show I hate watch. And that's b/c of JS (and a little bit of HL and HT) and also that I would like if my friend was called in for more background work.
  14. I can see where Gen is coming from. At my prior job, I was an administrative law judge. The job was to apply the facts to the law, which involved sometimes ruling against a party that had a sad and sometimes even tragic story. You can feel bad for the person, but you're still supposed to rule according to the law. The only difference is that I did feel bad for some of the people. I didn't know going in if I wanted to see an entire episode devoted to Chidi. But this was great. And touching. Loved seeing young Chidi and Chidi's advisor's reactions to his 3,700 page thesis.
  15. I think that depends on how well you can keep track of multiple storylines. If you watch 10 episodes over the course of a few days, you might not be able to keep track of what's going on. Or, if your brain works differently from mine, it may make the show easier to follow to wait and binge the entire season.
  16. Thank you for this! I was wondering if I nodded off and missed how Soyun sneaked back over the border and got back home. And while I know I was watching, I also wondered how Soyun got into the trunk. She's small, but not so small that she could get in w/o lifting the rear door.
  17. That was actually a plot point in Spoilered b/c it involves a different show.
  18. This. Why did Julia get in the way at that point? And telling Kate that she shouldn't have used the move Julia taught her? Since when shouldn't you use self-defense / martial arts move when you're, you know, in a fight? With someone you hadn't seen in years and who, oh by the way, doesn't live in Gotham and what's the last thing - right, she's wearing a mask. I liked Julia, but those two things were just dumb. Super Evil's gotta super evil or else you risk losing your spot in Evil League of Evil, or the D.C. Universe equivalent. And in Alice's mind, she probably thinks she didn't (once again) break her vow to Kate not to kill anyone else. After all, the Rifle killed two of the scientists and Mouse killed the third. None died by Alice's hand. Her money, yes. Her influence over them, sure. But not by her hand. Although Mouse already is jealous that his "sister" likes Kate best. Learning that she tampered with the weapon and had the scientists killed to protect Kate won't make him feel better.
  19. I laughed every time Ray went to his coping mechanism. Yeah, that was really poor editing. At the very least, they needed to show he got the sandwich as sundown was occurring. Having a boyfriend or getting a blow job might damage his marriage, but it's not the end of his career at the present time. But, having a "child" in the room as it's happening would be harder to overcome.
  20. The Governor of a state close to The Post Office (able to be reached w/in 5 minutes by SUV) is missing for three months. So a Special Election is scheduled to elect a new governor and the missing governor is one of the two candidates? And, when he suddenly appears, his aide says that now he's back, the aide has to cancel the election? Democracy in action.
  21. Maybe not. She's searching for the Earth-human killing thingy so it's likely that it's in the void of one of the Janets in the room.
  22. We still don't know enough about the Treadstone program. There might even be more than one. In Ludlum's books, it was a CIA black ops program. But 1973 guy looks like he was "trained" by the Russian lady. So, is he trying to get the protocol back to the CIA? Or is he trying to get it to the CIA for the first time? Post-1973, does Russia share the protocol with North Korea? Do the Russians or US share it with India? I don't believe that the US would have created these specific Treadstone operatives. Especially North Korea given how difficult it is to get someone into that country. But, I guess it's possible that we'll find out that these agents are all there to destabilize world governments for the benefit of whomever leads Treadstone.
  23. Even putting aside the last sentence, here's my problem with this - if it was someone else, say Chidi, who was hanging on, would they have tried to save him? Even though the potential danger is the same. They don't have to like Brent. They don't have to hang out with him. They don't even have to acknowledge him if they pass by on the street. But if they have the chance to try to save him, just walking away is troubling and I would say wrong.
