  1. I just watched a few of the YouTube links in the opening post of this thread and they really put the show into a different light. I wished I'd watched them before watching the series. This one below, in particular, addresses the modern vernacular which I found so jarring, but now it makes a lot more sense.
  2. Lauren Fenmore & Michael Baldwin They've weathered a lot of storms and always sail through them as a couple. Also, I just can't with the cloyingness of Mariah and Tessa, sorry...
  3. I don't remember, you'd have to rewatch towards the end of their segment.
  4. We eloped and I went dress shopping alone too. One friend who wasn't even a close friend, was in town so she came with me to look at the dress that I was going to buy, and did end up buying. At one point I went alone to David's Bridal to try on dresses and in the room next to me was a bride, I think she was Persian or something, anyway, her entourage was her mom, and several aunties, and she took a long time to get into each dress so I would come out and they all took me under their wing and told me what they liked, etc. I honestly think they had more fun with me than with her! I ended up getting a dress elsewhere and brought my dress to David's and tried it on with their sashes, veils, and shoes, and honestly? The saleslady who helped me gave me a lot of time and attention and care and it was a lovely experience. They're probably used to being barely seen, just bring dress after dress, but it was a very nice experience and I don't feel like I missed out by not shopping with 'an entourage'. At the end of the day, the only person who's opinion mattered on my dress was mine. I noticed that mom's surname was different than her daughter's so perhaps the first husband/father died and mom remarried?
  5. I think they accentuated her masculine arms and it looked like she had pecs rather than breasts- it's a loom a lot of body builders seem to have. No idea if it's steroids ir that's just what happens when you become a body builder. TBH, with her muscular upper body,, I felt like she should have been in something that was perhaps off the shoulder but with enough of a sleeve to cover her biceps. That would have softened her look IMO. Those plu ging necklines did her no favors either. The not a bride gal...sometimes I wonder if these people are actors acted into the show. It just seems so odd. That said, while her mother's gown fit her perfectly. I thought the first gown looked fabulous on her. Her mkms gown was very dated IMO, though it had beautiful Allençon lace and I'm sure she could re work it. The fitting gal's mother was a freaking nightmare stage mom. Making it all about her. 'Oh I wish I was getting g married!' Any mother or friend accompanying a bride who says that, I just have no time for.
  6. Yes, you are absolutely right! I wasn't thinking social strategy...Jolly can remain a confirmed bachelor, and the Duke and he can have their own rooms within Georgiana's fabulous manor house. Same here. I see the Duke as the gay son of an overbearing, social climbing mother, who has no clue, or doesn't care that her son isn't interested in women. And thus he is snarky and snide to protect himself from others. But I can see Jolly's jolly personality thawing him.
  7. Right! I'd like to see Georgiana have a marriage of convenience with either the Duke OR Jolly, and have an understanding that the gentlemen may carry on discreetly within their rooms in the home, and Georgiana can do the same behind closed doors. That would give her control of her inheritance and allow her to do whatever she pleases.
  8. Is it just me, or does Danny Romolatti look like Bela Legosi minus the lipstick? God does he look like shite, not even warmed over. And some of those 'looks' and 'group' shots when everyone was lurking round the GCAC while Chance did his Detective Dumbass act, were like really bad telenovelas! There was one where Danny puts his arms around Daniel, Kyle and Dummer, I think, it was right out of that old SNL gem, The Californians!
  9. ^THIS^ I have come to realize that the thing about @NinjaPenguinsrecraps that are so amazing is that she's not really making up much of it. I watched yesterday and it was nearly verbatim, but it's soooo much better reading it here, on The Daily Ninja!
  10. I'm watching this on PBS Passport so I don't want to spoiler anything for those watching weekly on PBS Sundays. That said, this series reminds me of a mash-up of Semi-inaccurate period historical drama meets Alice in Wonderland meets Tim Burton's Nightmare. Oh, and add in a healthy splash of modern day vernacular just to throw off us viewers. It's very odd indeed. And yet, I am still watching...
  11. They certainly stuck the landing on the ending though. So do we, uncle. This was the only satisfying bit of this episode for me as well. Ian always brings it! I'm sad that the show has sunk so low in rehashing the same old tired tropes over and over and over again. Like, we have nothing right now so let's separate J&C again, weee! Just, STOP. It makes me wonder if there's anyone actually running this show's ship anymore or are they coasting on fumes?
  12. I keep saying/hoping that Claire, Jamie et al., set the fire themselves to get out of there. I do find setting the show in the south during the revolution is interesting though because you never really see that perspective. I'd pefer they be in a city and more directly involved though. Yup. Same here. The Ridge dwellers are bottom feeders and really, they wouldn't have sided with the Brown clan against J&C so quickly, that was bad story telling to force certain aspects of the story to align. Bad writing IMO. I loathe pretty much everyone that isn't part of J&C's immediate family at this point. This show completely lost its ability to write compelling and entertaining secondary and tertiary characters in the way Show did in S01, 2 and half of 3. Where are the Ruperts and company? People that made us smile, laugh, and cry when we lost them? Malva? Good riddance to bad trash, I say. And the same to the rest of the Ridge dwellers.
  13. And I was so disgusted with this episode that I forgot about who did what to whom because, STUPID STORY LINE.
  14. Did I f/f through something here? What is this about? Also, count me in on the crew that cannot see where this disaster is going with Diane and Phyllis. I mean, if walking in and seeing your fiance choking your ex isn't enough to get Jack to re think the engagement, and get Kyle and Dummer to re think his mother's motives and behavior then what exactly do SyPh and Jeremy have planned? Awww, fuck it, never mind, I don't care!
  15. I watched two episodes of this late last night and had the weirdest dreams. It's such a bizarro show, and if it's not even rooted in real history, what's the point?
  16. I haven't seen the celeb version, but yes, they drive around to antique shops in a vintage car, trading witty quips, getting ridiculous discounts because it's on TV, and then going to local auctions to see whose antiques make the most profit.
  17. Thank you for saying this, and for sharing your personal experiences.
  18. Mariah Copeland & Tessa Porter Chloe Mitchell & Kevin Fisher Sharon Newman & Nick Newman Lauren Fenmore & Michael Baldwin *This is what we had to choose from people?!?!?
  19. Is Gok coming back? He was such a breath if fresh air! Red was a lovely person but damn, that dress was fug. I know, as long as she felt beautiful in it, but yeah, I think Gok could have made her look amazing in a completely different type of dress. Also, that Hot Lava lady was such a PITA client. I loathe these women who come on the show to perform and be high maintenance and snarky, etc. Just, no. I'd rather see all Reds than anyone like Lava mouth again.
  20. I don't know about that. David and Annie live in AZ yes? Lower housing prices than alot of other states. Annie is very good at marketing - she's had clothing ventures, cooking ventures, and I get the impression she's thrifty. And she cooks a lot at home. I think they could easily be worth that if 'worth' includes things like their home, car, etc.
  21. That auto tune is set to dog level, it's piercingly bad. Just, no dude. NO.
